People often ask what we do here at Natural Horse Lover Farm. I often struggle to explain it all because we are a very non-traditional horse farm and we are also way more than a horse farm as we have many services and classes for non-horse people. But, we are known by our name and have no plan to change it!

Our mission is to provide comprehensive knowledge resources, events, and services to support the holistic care and education of people and animals. We are dedicated to offering collaborative support for exploration, discovery, and life-long learning skills to all people interested in a natural path for themselves and for animals.

This includes but is not limited to classes, workshops, lessons, and healing sessions on many subjects such as multiple topics and disciplines with horses, Reiki, crystal therapy, essential oils, red-light therapy, and much more!

I guess I am one of those tree-hugger horse people and am proud of it! I have been trimming my barefoot horses for many years and with no regrets.

My horses have never been lame, never have abscesses, and frankly, have never had any other issues related to the hoof that many horses unfortunately experience. When needed, I have used hoof boots; I prefer Old Macs.

My practice and principles have extended to all ages and several breeds too, Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Quarter Horses, Mini horses....you get the idea. It offers my horses great care, gives us time together, helps build our relationship, and much more. It is not just a trim but an experience that impacts them in many levels.

Yeah, at Natural Horse Lover Farm, we live outside the box and color outside the lines, with principles and purpose, we have fun and enjoy ourselves daily. I used to live the traditional way and practiced everything horse the way everyone else did but no longer and I have never looked back.

Everything I do with horses now has a reason behind it, is natural (to the best of my ability), keeps the horses dignity, spirit, and health intact, principles before goals always, and thankfully, we are living happily ever after in our fairytale life. ❤️

I am Michelle Young, and am a Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master Teacher. I own Natural Horse Lover Farm in North Lawrence, NY with a focus on holistic care and education for people and animals.

Reiki is a Japanese technique using gentle hands-on healing method with hands gently on or slightly over the body. Reiki is the channeling of Universal Energy for the purposes of healing. It is safe, effective, and beneficial for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs and can be used for any issue you or your animals may have. It is not a religion nor is it a replacement for medical or

Regarding the Reiki offerings (as I offer many other modalities and services), I offer Reiki classes levels 1, 2, and 3 as well as mentoring programs for all levels. My classes are taught with a people and animals focus, structured akin to a college class including a textbook, lecture, hands on work, a class website with additional resources, and homework! I also give Reiki treatment sessions in person as well as distance treatments for people and animals. "The main purpose of meditation is to quiet the mind so that you can reconnect with your inner self. What or how you find is the best way for you to make that connection - is a form of meditation. It is suggested that you simply start with NOTICING your breathing. We rush around each day and never even notice how consistently and beautifully our breath is there for us - sustaining us. It is a meaningful way to also connect with your life force...since it is this life force that is also what makes us who we are. I hope that this helps in answering your question! My best to you.

Now here is my addition to this wonderful response:

This is a great explanation of meditation. To add to it, when meditating with your horse, dog, or other pet, you will also notice their breath and the patterns of your entities will come together, in unison. You will begin to breathe together, to relax together, to become one. Try it, it is wonderful, and it should be part of your ritual.

The doggies just got a bath. No fleas or ticks and I am not surprised. Our success is that we don't use chemical treatments but do use essential oils and quite sparingly too! Want to learn more? In preparation for Saturday's forecast of snow, and as a TBT attempt, here are my sweet horses enjoying a blizzard. They had free access to the Quonset hut but preferred being outside that day. As I recall, it was not that cold but just rather snowy. Silly horses.

Left to Right: Whiskey, Fosse, Lola

My time at the barn tonight was spent cleaning an ugly bite wound on Whiskey (thanks to Lola), and grooming out his fairy knots. The bite is not the first and won't be the last as he is the lowest horse in the herd. I have seen a chicken boss him around! This horse also has a gorgeous black mane that loves to twist. Then, back to the house. My barn time is limited at the moment due to pneumonia (which meant I also had to wear a mask while in the barn).

No matter if I have five minutes or five hours, horse time always makes me feel great. My body and soul feel balanced, happy, and perfectly aligned with the universe. I know that I connect with them on a different level than most people recognize and the experience is always genuine and unique.

The next time you are with your horses, pause and experience the moment, connect with it, hear and listen to the sounds, smells, feelings, and energy sensations. You won't regret it! Then, take time to process everything. Each time you engage, the experience and your relationship will be that much more gratifying.

Here are my top 5 thoughts of the day.

1. We listen and cater to the individual needs of our clients. Although we offer a menu of options, we often create new items upon request. We offer a non-judgmental and safe environment for learning, growth, healing, and change.

2. We are a quiet, private facility, catering to individuals, not the masses. People come by appointment or by registering for an event. We do not have a constant stream of traffic.

3. Our facilities were developed with detail in mind, are top quality, comfortable, safe, inviting, and like a second home to our clientele. We are not in a strip mall, sterile office or a storefront on a main road. We are not a busy boarding/show barn.

4. We love animals and people very much. Therefore, we have offerings for both. We are way more than horses. We help horses, dogs & other animals as well as people! We just happen to have a horse farm name. :)

Join us and learn to understand what fear is and what it is not, contexts of fear or lack of confidence, how to work through your anxiety, create an action plan to improve and grow your confidence and horsemanship, understand your horse from a psychological perspective,
and learn strategies and skills to improve the relationship with your horse.

This clinic offers 6 hours of lecture including hands on exercises, 6 1/2 hours of instruction work with your horse (groundwork and riding) with the cohort, and 13 hours available for optional private lessons. Topics covered are applicable to all levels, disciplines, and situations.

This clinic is not open for auditing as we want to provide a safe, intimate, and positive learning environment for our participants. The clinic is limited to 8 participants.

Yes. If you register for the event and your schedule changes, you can apply it to the same class type on a different date within 1 year of your initial registration.

What is the refund policy?

There are no refunds, no exceptions.

Is there a prerequisite to attend this class?

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Attendees must be 18 years of age or older.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

Please bring a notebook and writing utensil should you desire to take notes.

What should I wear to the event?

Wear comfortable clothing and that which is appropriate to being in the company of animals. Be prepared for time spent indoors in a heated room as well as outdoors and in the barn.

What should I do to prepare for the event?

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and other similar items two days prior to class.

The event conflicts with my schedule or is sold out. Is there a waiting list for future classes?

There is waiting list for future classes. If you want a class scheduled to meet your needs, contact the organizer.

Are there any forms to file for this event?

Communication is Responsibility

Today, there is a post going around Facebook from a horse clinician that says, "I am responsible for what I say. However, not what you understood." I bring this up because I believe many of you will see and read that statement.

I have to disagree with it.

We are responsible to ensure that what we say provides a clear understanding of the meaning of the message. Interpretation of said message is perhaps where a miscommunication will occur.

All too often people make statements, are not thorough in their thoughts or delivery, (among other things) and wonder why people (or animals) misconstrue the meaning, intent, and/or the desired reaction.

As a professional in higher education, I see all too often that communication is the one thing people need to continually work on, individually and in groups. It is a never ending process and something that should be continually improved.

Communication and relationships go hand in hand. Let's not dismiss the important and vital responsibilities of all parties involved. (And, if you want to learn how to be a better communicator towards people and/or animals, let me know. I would love to help.)
