Former Gingrich aides who recently resigned en masse from the former House Speaker's campaign are said to be heading to Texas to assist in Perry's campaign for the GOP nomination.
Lewis notes that while Perry may be a top contender in the race, he has some serious explaining to do to conservatives "outraged" by some actions in the past.
Even as the U.S. continues to be mired in the Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya conflicts, the Obama administration appears to be leading the U.S. into yet another war in the Arabian Peninsula. Reuters reports that the U.S. military has intensified air operations against militants in Yemen allegedly belonging to al Qaeda. The situation in Yemen continues to spiral out of control and may soon erupt into a full scale civil war. The U.S. seems to be positioning itself to intervene as more planes and drones are now being used to bomb targets inside the besieged country.

Should the U.S. get involved? Can we really afford a fourth war? Obama is powerless to solve our problems here at home but insists on trying to solve other nations' problems.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney seems to have found his stride on the primary campaign trail these days. The upcoming special double issue (for June 13 & 20, 2011) of Newsweek Magazine features a dancing Mitt Romney dressed in the traditional attire of Mormon missionaries.

The photoshopped image of Romney on the magazine's cover is in fact a spoof of the image on the poster of the critically well-received Broadway musical "The Book of Mormon." It also serves as an introduction to an article called "Mormons Rock" which is actually a very good read:

"They've conquered Broadway, talk radio, the U.S. Senate-and they may win the White House. Why Mitt Romney and 6 million Mormons have the secret to success."

So, what's all the fuss about this cover? Well some conservative bloggers think that Romney looks like a "lunatic" in the picture. Jim Geraghty at National Review Online found it "appalling." Noel Sheppard at NewsBusters asks "is this an appropriate way to introduce a serious presidential candidate to your readers?" What do you think? Do you agree that the picture is"appalling?"

Should we focus on religion this election? It's true that many Christian evangelicals won't be voting for Romney because of his religion but there are also many conservatives who will not vote for him because of a perceived record of flip-flopping on many issues.

Whatever the case may be, I think it's a great cover picture - it's catchy, it's flippant, it makes the reader want to read the the article inside the magazine. Let's all lighten up a bit - the Mormons are taking it in stride, Mitt obviously agrees to it, why sweat it?

Here's Rep. Weiner's initial statement during the conference:

"Last Friday night, I tweeted a photograph of myself that I intended to send as a direct message as part of a joke to a woman in Seattle. Once I realized I posted to Twitter, I panicked, I took it down, and said that I had been hacked.

"I then continued to stick to that story, which was a hugely incredible mistake. This woman was unwittingly dragged into this and bears absolutely no responsibility. I'm so sorry to have disrupted her life in this way.

"To be clear, the picture was of me and I sent it. I'm deeply sorry for the pain this has caused my wife Huma and our family, my contituents, my friends, supporters, and staff.

"In addition, over the past 2 years, I have engaged in several inappropriate conversations conducted over Twitter, Facebook, email, and ocassionally, on the phone with women I have met online.

"I've exchanged messages and photos of the explicit nature with about six women over the last three years. For the most part, these communications took place before my marriage though some took place after. To be clear, I have never met any of these women or had physical relationships at any time.

"I haven't told the truth and I've done things that I deeply regret. I bought pain to people I care about the most and to people who believed in me and for that I'm deeply sorry.

"I apologize to my wife and to our families as well as to our friends and supporters. I'm deeply ashamed of my terrible judgement and actions."

The scandal dubbed as "Weinergate" broke out last weekend after Rep. Weiner's Twitter message was discovered and featured at conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart's Big Government blog. Wiener initially denied any wrongdoing and said that his account had been hacked.

Twitter and the main stream media have been on fire last week over accusations and counter-accusations. Sympathetic left-wing bloggers and columnists accused Breitbart of orchestrating the hack and setting up the Congressman.

The threat of another woman coming out with more explicit photos of Wiener may be the factor that forced the congressman to confess.

Andrew Breitbart, who spoke in the same press conference before Rep. Weiner arrived, said he feels vindicated and that he wants an apology from Congressman Weiner.

"Quite frankly, I want an apology for him being complicit in a 'blame the messenger' strategy. Everything that I've said so far has come to be true."

Weiner did apologize to Breitbart during the press conference.

Asked why he's not releasing a new more explicit photo in his possession for now, Breitbart answered that he's doing the decent thing to save the Congressman's marriage.

"You know what I would be accused of if I release this photo? I'm doing this to save his family, ok? And if this guy wants to start fighting with me again, I have this photo..."

Weiner maintains that he didn't break the law because he didn't use government equipment in sending those pictures and that he's not resigning. Well, whatever the outcome will be of the ethics investigation being called by his own party, Congressman's Weiner has been effectively neutered by Andrew Breitbart.

His hypocrisy has been throughly exposed and his credibility among independent voters took a severe beating. It may take him a very long time to recover from this, if he manages to salvage his political career at all. Job well done to Andrew Breitbart and his editorial team for exposing the hypocrisy of the left.

Watch Sean Hannity's interview with Gov. Palin:

Asked by Hannity if she would support Donald Trump (who said that if he "doesn't like the Republican field," he would consider running third party), Gov. Palin answered:

"You know what, a year ago I would have said please don't even consider third party. we've got to shore up what is good and strong and principled within the Republican Party. And we've got run on a Republican ticket, stand strong on the planks and a strong platform that is the GOP.

"I think conditions have changed in this last year where after the November midterm elections, we swept in a new crop of hardcore fiscal conservatives with a lot of common sense, who had solutions that they wanna see applied in order to get the economy back on the right track.

"Well, too many in the GOP are still resistant and resisting that movement of this new crop of common sense conservatives and if they're not careful in the GOP there will be a third party rise up just like back in the day when the Whigs finally went away and Republicans rose up.

"That is what the GOP should be fearing today - the electorate getting fed up with business as usual in the GOP and a third party will rise up, not that I want to see that because I still have belief strongly that the GOP planks are best for our country, but just the machine that runs the GOP has to be very careful."

It's an obvious warning to the GOP establishment, esp. with her reference to the defunct Whig Party, which I'm sure will bring in more drama and turmoil in the days ahead as the party decides on the best candidate to nominate against Pres. Obama.

What do you think? Will Sarah Palin follow her heart and go rogue on the GOP if she doesn't get the party nomination? Will such a move split the conservative vote?

In the next few months, we will be posting articles, videos, reviews, and book excerpts from Ayn Rand's works. My objective is simple - to be able to clarify for myself the system, meaning, and significance of her philosophy in relation to my own personal beliefs. Hopefully, some readers will also find value in this endeavor.

In this interview (video below) with Phil Donahue in New York in 1979, author and philosopher Ayn Rand explained her views on which side one should choose in the Middle East conflict. Watch:

Here's an excerpt from the interview:

Woman: I'd like to know your opinion on United States foreign policy and what's happening in the Middle East right now.

Ayn Rand: "Right now? I'm not sure we know what's happening. I think the United States' foreign policy has been disgraceful for years, for decades. I would say roughly since the New Deal and in part, even before that.

"But, if you mean whose side should one be on, Israel or the Arabs, I would certainly say Israel because it's the advanced, technological, civilized country amidst a group of almost totally primitive savages who have not changed for years, and who are racist, and who resent Israel because it brings the industry and intelligence and modern technology into their stagnation."

Phil Donahue: I just have one point that I think should be made Ms. Rand, time fleeting here. Your characterization of the situation in the Middle East came down rather gratuitously and in a very angry way on the Arabs and without discussing the merits of either side in the most complicated and painful collision of cultures and peoples in our world. Why couldn't the millions of men, women, and children who are Arab who find themselves in this desperate conflict and look around wondering where peace will be, why can't they be angry with you for your characterization of them, your slap at them, your roundhouse criticism of them? When you don't seem to be able to tolerate a questioner who suggests that she disagrees with you? You do not accept any criticism unless you level it.

Ayn Rand: No, I don't resort to terrorism. I don't go around murdering my opponents, innocent women and children. That is what I have against the Arabs. That takes the conflict out of the sphere of civilized conflict and makes it murderous. And anyone, private citizens who resort to force is a monster and that's what makes me condemn and despise them.

To be honest, I was shocked when I watched this video for the first time. I've been a fan of Ms. Rand since about twenty years ago when I first read "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged." As a conservative, I'm also an ardent supporter of Israel but her blanket description of all Arabs as "primitive savages" is quite simply beyond the pale. It's pure virulent racism that has no place in civilized discussions, in my opinion. I'm wondering if there will be other nasty surprises along the way as I sift through Ayn Rand's work and the available documentations on her as a person and as a philosopher. Would I end up admiring her work and despising her as a person?

Ayn Rand ( /ˈaɪn ˈrænd/;[1] born Alisa Zinov'yevna Rosenbaum, February 2 [O.S. January 20] 1905 – March 6, 1982), was a Russian-American novelist, philosopher,[2] playwright, and screenwriter. She is known for her two best-selling novels and for developing a philosophical system she called Objectivism. (Wikipedia)

Her best known publications are "The Fountainhead," "The God of the Machine," and "Atlas Shrugged." We shall be discussing her work in our future posts.

In response to a question during a town hall meeting in Manchester, New Hampshire on June 3, 2011, Romney said:

"I don’t speak for the scientific community, of course, but I believe the world’s getting warmer. I can’t prove that, but I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. And number two, I believe that humans contribute to that.

"I don't know how much our contribution is to that because I know there have been periods of greater heat and warmth in the past but I believe that we contributed to that. And so I think it's important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and the global warming that you're seeing."

Watch the Romney global warming video below:

At least, on this issue, Romney has not wavered. Too bad he's been nimbly flip-flopping on almost every other significant issue out there just to get elected.
Sarah Palin yesterday after Washington Post conservative columnist Dr. Charles Krauthammer called her "not schooled" in an interview with Bill O'Reilly which aired on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Fox. In that interview, Dr. Krauthammer argued that Gov. Palin had two years to educate herself about policy but failed to do so nor does she appear to recognize her need for more learning.

Here's the video of the O'Reilly interview with Dr. Krauthammer:

According to Dr. Krauthammer:

"She is very smart and adept. Great political instincts and is a star. The problem with her, I think, is that she is not schooled. I don't mean she didn't go to the right schools. I mean when you get into policy, beyond instincts -- I like her political instincts, I like her political overall view of the world -- but when it comes to policy, she had two-and-a-half years to school herself and she hasn't and that's a problem. It's not only the lack of schooling, it's the lack of effort to school herself and the lack of insight to see that she needs it."

Here's Levin's defense of Palin:

"So what is it? What’s the problem? She’s solid on social issues. She’s solid on fiscal issues. She’s solid against these subsidies against big companies – in other words, she is not a corporatist. She’s not a crony or a believer in that. She’s solid on taxes and spending. I’m just confused. She’s solid on Israel. She’s solid on the military. She’s solid with respect to our allies. Is there some big issue that’s disqualifying? What – because the liberals don’t like her?

"I’m getting sick and tired, as I said yesterday, last week and I’ve said over the months – I’m getting sick and tired of these smears by Krauthammer against her. He’s a thoroughly decent man, I understand, but he doesn’t seem very decent in this regard and I don’t know why. He’s certainly owes us a column or a better explanation, doesn’t he? He wants to influence the outcome."

You can listen to Mark Levin's passionate defense of Republican candidates (including Sarah Palin) here:

Hosted by kiwi6.com music upload.
Download mp3.

I agree with Mark Levin on this one. What matters most is that Sarah's heart is in the right place. She's the only candidate with the star power out there who has been consistent in everything that she stood for and in all her statements. We've had a so-called intellectual president in the White House these last couple of years and we're now practically heading to a double-dip recession under this corrupt administration.

It's not like Sarah doesn't have the smarts to surround herself with people who have knowledge about intricate policy issues. Is Krauthammer saying Obama knows everything there is to know about every economic or geopolitical issue he has to deal with in the Oval Office?

I repeat, Sarah's heart is in the right place. She doesn't compromise or flip-flop like Mitt Romney. If she decides to run, she's our best chance against Obama. Ironically, it's not just the libs who are afraid of her. The Washington GOP elite crowd are also after her, apparently.

After two hours of intense debate, members of the U.S. House of Representatives today passed a resolution harshly rebuking President Obama for continued U.S. participation in NATO operations in Libya without explicit Congressional approval. The resolution, sponsored by Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) himself, passed by a vote of 268-145 (45 Democcrats supported it). It also requires the president to "provide detailed information about the cost and objectives of the American role in the conflict."

A separate measure sponsored by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) calling for a complete termination of all American naval and air operations in Libya was defeated by a 148 to 265 vote.
