As the smoke clears from Anfield after yet another feisty derby, Liverpool supporters suffer with the notion that every match is the most important of the season. This was definitely no exception. From the start we saw tic for tack fouls set the tone of the tie. An intense and physical match saw neutral fans scoff at the lack of quality football. Innocent bystanders might of found the match to be sloppy but supporters of both teams enjoyed the underling intensity.

A heavyweight boxing bout is never pretty and always brutally rough. This was just that. We saw Liverpool play with 10 men for the majority of the game after Sotirios Kyrgiakos was dismissed for a two-footed tackle on afro puffs Fellaini in the 30th minute.
Lasik surgery candidate/referee Martin Atkinson somehow missed Marouane Fellaini's double whammy foot stamp on the Greek defender's right shin in the same play that led to his red card. The lone highlight that did not include scuffles and cards saw Dirk Kuyt's 55th-minute header from a corner beat American Tim Howard to seal the deal for the Reds.

The flying Dutchman has scored 4 goals in as many games for LFC. Dirk's winner was also the 50th of his career with the prestigious outfit. Despite having a man advantage, all Neverton could muster was aimless long balls to a clueless Saha. Donovan folded under the pressure and Arteta barely saw any action since his inception in the first half. Rafa set the 10 man formation accordingly and the Liverpool players did what they had to do to secure the lead and eventual victory.

Steven Gerrard attracted more fouls than goal scoring chances. He was also quick to praise the referee in a post game interview for allowing them to "play" through tough tackles. Surely Stevie's outlook would be different if the sending off changed the score for the worse. Everton continue their winless run at Anfield shitting the bed since 1999 and all seems right in the world once again. With all of the weeks results going Liverpool's way. LFC currently sit in 4th place with a chance to be 2 points from third if a win can be earned vs. the perpetually prepubescent Arsenal. Liverpool Football Club fought an ugly battle with their backs to the ropes. Only if you come out swinging do you have a shot at winning.

Xabi don't care.

With uncertainty looming of Alonso’s departure to RealMadrid, everyone affiliated with Liverpool are adamant that Xabi stay a red. LFC players and fans alike are deeply disrupted by the ongoing public discussions between Xabi Alonso and his suitors Real Madrid. The Galaticos are no doubt back, having spent over 200 million euros on new superstars that include Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Kaka.

The off season transfer talk is either hated or loved by football fans but never ignored. However, I don’t recall seeing a transfer situation quite like Xabi Alonso’s. The crafty multi faceted mid fielder had a wonderful 2009 and quickly became a fan favorite.

Regardless of public support, Xabi Alonso has publicly stated in various Spanish media especially Real Madrid’s megaphone “Marca” his desire to play for the royal squad. Most recently he handed LFC his transfer request. Xabi keeps one foot in Anfield and his eye on El Bernabeu dispite a worldwide audience pleading with the player to stay in Liverpool. During Liverpool’s preseason run in Asia, signs begging "Xabi to stay" were the only white spots in an otherwise sea of red. Asian make shift Kop’s serenaded songs in broken English to the disgruntled player. Seems everyone wants Xabi to stay but Xabi Alonso. Looks like LFC will eventually part with the mid-fielder but he will go under their terms only.

There is no doubt that Alonso is incredibly important to what LFC want to accomplish. Looking ahead to the season, we thank the heavens that the end is near for the summer transfer window. Xabi will continue to play an important role for Liverpool if he stays put. Despite his desire to play elsewhere, Liverpool supporters will continue to cheer even if his heart is in Madrid. I’m still baffled by the overwhelming support Xabi gets for not wanting to be a red. Liverpool Supporters want a winning team, but why do we insist on loving a player that doesn’t love us back?

Rafa seriously looking at Falcao

Several press reports are suggesting that Rafa is targeting a sneaky swoop for the highly rated Colombian national and River Plate superstar Radamel Falcao Garcia Zarate. The crafty forward know as “Falcao” is one of South America’s top rated footballers.

In 2007 he was elected “XI of America” which is a prestigious annual survey voted by South American Sports journalists. His father, Radamel García, played professionally as a defender in Colombia. Falcao is named after the 1980s Brazilian and Roma legend Falcão…no relation.Falcao was most recently linked to Benfica until LFC came along and made a comparable bid. He’s been linked with several EPL such as Aston Villa, Arsenal and Manchester United during last years January transfer window.Falcao has been quoted as saying he dreams of playing in England. Liverpool is looking to snatch him right from under Benfica’s noses. Although Liverpool’s offer is slightly lower than Benfica’s, Falcao has the last decision on his ultimate future destination. With Rock star looks and talent to match the Colombian is not your stereotypical footballer, he is a devout Christian and a leader of a number of Church youth groups. He will bring instant maturity and discipline to any team he joins. Kakasek?!His scoring record of 34 goals in 88 League games (71 starts) for his current club Argentinean giants River Plate is well regarded. However "El Tigre" struggles to find the back of the net in his limited starts on the big stage with his national side. The player is renowned for his pace and lighting fast lateral movement. He has gifted ability to shoot cannons from distance with both feet.

Falcao is remarkably strong in the air despite his modest height of 5 ft 9. He evolved in River Plate after moving from an out and out striker’s role into a more withdrawn CF position. His versatilityand hustle is one of the many reasons Rafa covets this player. Although he plays up top in Argentina and is known a striker, I prefer to see him in an attacking mid-fielder role complementing Steven Gerrard. The physicality of the Premiership will take it toll on the injury prone player if Rafa sticks him upfront. Falcao has suffered from a number of injuries since 2006 as a direct result of tearing his anterior cruciate. However, the versatile striker is back to full fitness and is living up to his early hype when he first caught our attention in the U17 World Cup.

Wednesday, June 24, at 6 p.m., at Sara D. Roosevelt Park Chrystie and Houston streets in New York City.

Basketball players slated for the event are Steve Nash, Tony Parker, Jason Kidd, Grant Hill, Chris Bosh and Raja Bell

Football players will include Claudio Reyna, Thierry Henry, Javier Zanetti, Salomon Kalou, Ryan Babel, Giovanni van Brockhurst, Mathieu Flamini, Ivan Cordoba and Adrian Mutu.

Personally I will be excited to meet Colombian international and Inter legend Ivan Cordoba and the only Liverpool representative Ryan Babel. Hope to see you there.

THE NYC KOPITES & LFCNY have entered a team to play at the annual New York Red Bulls Supporters Shield. The 6-a-side tournament will take place on the Giants Stadium pitch before the Red Bulls play their MLS fixture with FC Dallas on Sunday August 23rd.

A block of tickets have been secured for Reds supporters from the NY Red Bulls for the day, which will include entry to watch the tournament and to watch the Red Bulls game after for a discounted rice of $20 each (face value of these tickets is $30).

The reds publicly told Barcelona that the player is valued at least £50 million, and now Benitez has even gone as far to say that no other offers will even be looked at. He is imperative to the sucess of LFC. If he is sold the Reds will have a high hill to climb next season. The Argentinan's agent is to blame for the latest transfer rumors. Like all sleaze bag agents he's looking to move his client at the best intrest of himself and not the player. The gaffer is livid with the player’s agent for his interview on the spanish radio station soliciting the players services to other clubs.

‘So I was surprised to see the agent’s comments today. He has a long contract and any club can forget about bidding for him. They can offer £40m or even £50m, we don’t want to sell.’

In a nutshell sport agents are charlatans and can't be trusted.

Do you think Steven Cohen will be taken off the air at World Soccer Daily? If so who do you see as a worthy replacement? The relentless pressure LFC supporters are putting on his sponsors is hurting him where it hurts… His pocket. Now he is taking donations from listeners to keep him on the air. From the looks of it, if he looses two more sponsors Cohen is history. There is no doubt he has been the voice of American footie fans for decent tenure. The sport has grown significantly in the US since he started his hate filled rants. Do you mean to tell me Steven Cohen is the best we have? There is no other pundit or talk show host in America that can run a successful daily soccer radio show without insulting innocent tragically killed LFC supporters. This boycott is bigger than LFCNY, NYC Kopites or Liverpool FC.

It's about respect for human life and the families of the 96 that were lost on that fateful night at Hillsborough. It's about having a prudent soccer ambassador in the United States that doesn’t just talk to hear himself speak.
I want to believe the American audience is too smart to continue to fall for the shenanigans of Steven Cohen. I understand the rants of a sports talk show host are to be bias and opinionated if the show is to be successful. If you have listened to his show in the past or have fallen victim to this latest scandal and just picked it up, you know that the man is a Chelsea supporter and hates Liverpool FC. I have no beef about negative LFC banter. Talk all you want about the team its players and management. I embrace criticism even if it comes from the opposition. The issue is not that he hates LFC or that he constantly trashes them any chance he gets with his whining high pitched rants. The facts are that he has made a mockery and of a terrible tragedy that has affected Liverpudlians, all football supporters and humanity. Hillsborough was an incident that propelled the sport to reevaluate the way its hosts football events. Only a coward dishonors innocent people that can't defend themselves. Freedom of speech is the fundamental notion that Cohen bases his argument on. However, when you are a public figure and ambassador (by default) to a sport in a country you have a social corporate responsibility to your audience, management and your sponsors.
Steven can say what ever he wants but not whenever he wants.

He does not like the colors, accents and songs of Scouser pride. That's fine. Realize fans of the same sport you love so much died in a horrific accident caused by unprepared hosts in a stadium. The fact is that Cohen let his utter hatred for a "team" get the better of him. The immature clouded convoluted perception of the truth is fueled by a hatred for a football team. Cohen himself stated many times a football team or game is nothing to fight over. I agree. He picked this fight for all the wrong reasons. The dead brothers and sisters that we lost in Hillsborough is a fight worth fighting. The malicious hateful comments transcend the sport and have irritated not just Liverpool supporters but all football fans that have an appreciation for life. That life that he loves and lives to the fullest is the same that the 96 no longer enjoy. Please don't let Steven Cohen continue to spread ignorance and hate to American Soccer fans.

The Hillsborough Justice Campaign condemns Steve Cohen, supports LFCNY and the North American Branches in boycott campaign.

New York, Friday, 22nd May 2009 - The Hillsborough Justice Campaign (HJC) today released a statement condemning Steve Cohen for his lies and support the boycott of his sponsors organized by the LFCNY and the North American Branches of Liverpool supporters. The HJC says that Steve Cohen's lies are the result of an "ignorance borne out of prejudice" and the LFCNY absolutely concurs. Throughout this campaign to get hate merchant Steve Cohen off the air, the consistent position of the LFCNY has been that he has been knowingly telling lies to cause hurt, anguish and pain, all in the name of notoriety and ratings. The simple fact is that Steve Cohen knowingly lies and now more and more people are seeing the truth in that statement.

Yesterday, Liverpool Football Club broke with tradition and to condemn Cohen and today the HJC do the same, "whilst we do not normally divert our valuable time and energy to respond to scurrilous comments in relation to Hillsborough, in this instance we make an exception". The LFCNY are very pleased to have the support of the HJC and will continue in its campaign to get Steve Cohen off the air. The HJC was specific in its support for the campaign, "we support the LFCNY and all Liverpool fans in the U.S. who have called for a boycott of advertisers associated with Mr Cohen", and we take heart from these statements. The campaign against a merchant of hate, Steve Cohen will continue and the LFCNY and all the North American Branches are congratulate the HJC on its stance.

This story has broken in the UK and the LFCNY have contacted many different organizations and companies across the length and breadth of Britian. Expect more statements like those of Liverpool Football Club and the HJC to follow in coming days.

This campaign answers for the 96 because they cannot. They are dead. As long as Steve Cohen has a broadcasting pulpit to promote hate and lies, this campaign will not rest. We encourage everyone to join our boycott of the sponsors of Steve Cohen.

The Hillsborough Justice Campaign unequivocally condemns the comments made by broadcaster Steve Cohen in relation to both the Hillsborough disaster and the ongoing justice campaign.

The cause of the Hillsborough Disaster was the breakdown of police control (see Interim Report of Lord Justice Taylor). To suggest otherwise is in direct contradiction to the facts and indicates an ignorance borne out of prejudice. Moreover, Mr Cohen’s comments regarding the Hillsborough Justice Campaign are slanderous and defame the good name of the organization.

Whilst we do not normally divert our valuable time and energy to respond to scurrilous comments in relation to Hillsborough, in this instance we make an exception. We support the LFCNY and all Liverpool fans in the U.S. who have called for a boycott of advertisers associated with Mr Cohen.

Finally, we would like to draw Mr Cohen’s attention to our website: www.contrast.org/hillsborough. If his views remain unchanged after reading the facts
as outlined in the history section then it could reasonably be argued that his views on Hillsborough are pathological.

Should this project ever take off the ground Liverpool Football Club kit sponsor Carlsberg look to pursue club’s new stadium naming rights. As reported by euFootball.BIZ Liverpool big wigs are being "scared" by Liverpool fans in to keeping the iconic Anfield name. I'm very happy to hear Liverpool supporters are being heard. It would be disastrous to see the deep rooted history in the Anfield name get tarnished. This means LFC will have two separate financial entities co dependent on each other's success. It will be LFC's burden if Carlsberg goes under or sells. I prefer to see one owner one name.

If the danish brewing company were to go under in a freak economic takeover, LFC and everything that is sacred will be lost. What will in sue is a corporate tug of war over naming rights. Imagine the name of the grounds are to be changed now and 7 years later changed once again. I don't want to have "Probably the best" stadium in the world. We must have "THE BEST" stadium in the world. Anfield.

Liverpool looking to take Johnson out of Portsmouth

Portsmouth got their man but financial troubles has them scrambling for chips. In need of a right back LFC look to snatch a great talent from a dying Pompey for £15million.
