1. Tahun 1978, bersama Abdullah Ahmad Sungkar ia dituduh menentang pemerintah dan ingin mengganti dasar negara Pancasila dengan dasar Al Quran dan sunah Nabi Muhammad.

2. tahun 1982, Ba'asyir bersama Sungkar dijatuhi hukuman 9 tahun penjara oleh Pengadilan Negeri Sukoharjo dalam kasus penolakan terhadap asas tunggal.

3. 1985 mereka melarikan diri ke Malaysia

4. Tahun 2000, dalam Kongres Mujahidin I di Yogyakarta, ia terpilih menjadi salah satu pemimpin Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia.

5. Tahun 2002, Ba'asyir diperiksa lagi oleh Mabes Polri soal keterlibatannya dalam kelompok 13 tokoh Islam radikal yang ditangkap di Malaysia

6. Tanggal 19 Oktober 2002 Polri menangkap Ba’asyir sebagai tersangka dalam beberapa kasus pengeboman dan usaha pembunuhan Presiden Megawati Soekarnoputri.

7. Pada 14 Juni 2006 Ustaz Abu Bakar Ba'asyir bebas.

8. Pada 09 Agustus 2010 Abu Bakar Ba'asyir kembali ditangkap Tim Densus 88 Mabes Polri dengan dugaan terkait kegiatan terorisme.

Bulan Agustus 2010 untuk Abu Bakar Ba’asyir dan keluarga, semestinya menjadi bulan yang begitu bersejarah. Pasalnya, pada tanggal 17 Agustus nanti, usianya genap menjadi 72 tahun. Putera Abu Bakar Abud ini tercatat memang lahir pada tanggal 17 Agustus 1938 di Jombang, Jawa Timur.

Namun, justru di bulan Agustuslah, Pimpinan Pondok Pesantren Al-Mukmin Ngruki yang biasa dipanggil Ustadz Abu mengalami perlakuan yang kurang manusiawi dari pihak kepolisian. Dalam perjalanan pulang seusai mengisi ceramah di sebuah masjid di sekitar Bandung, Ustadz Abu dan rombongan termasuk isterinya dicegat dan ditangkap Densus 88. Tidak tanggung-tanggung, tuduhan yang dialamatkan ke pimpinan Anshorut Tauhid ini adalah otak dan donatur terorisme di Indonesia.

”Beliau bukan DPO atas kasus apa pun. Kenapa ditangkap di tengah jalan, bukan di rumah dengan cara yang lebih berakhlak,” ujar Abdurrahim, ketua bidang dakwah Anshorut Tauhid yang juga putera Ustadz Abu.

Soal berurusan dengan pihak aparat dalam kaitannya dengan aktivitas keislaman beliau, penangkapan di Ciamis memang bukan hal baru. Bisa dibilang, mantan Ketua Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia, Ketua Lembaga Dakwah Mahasiswa Islam, Ketua Gerakan Pemuda Islam Indonesia ini pernah mengalami sejumlah drama penangkapan.

Sekitar sepuluh tahun setelah mendirikan Pondok Pesantren Al-Mukmin Ngruki bersama Abdullah Sungkar, Yoyo Roswadi, Abdul Qohar H. Daeng Matase dan Abdllah Baraja, pada tahun 1983, Ustadz Abu dan Abdullah Sungkar pernah ditangkap rezim Orde Baru dengan tuduhan menolak Azaz Tunggal Pancasila. Waktu itu, Amerika memang belum mengkampanyekan perang melawan terorisme Islam. Di pengadilan, keduanya divonis penjara 9 tahun.

Pada Februari 1985, ketika keduanya menjalani tahanan rumah, Ustadz Abu dan Abdullah Sungkar ’hijrah’ ke Malaysia melalui jalur darat lewat Sumatera Utara. Sekitar 14 tahun, Ustadz yang juga alumni pondok Pesantren Gontor ini tinggal di Malaysia. Selama belasan tahun itu, Ustadz Abu tidak diam menikmati kenyamanan di negeri orang. Justru, ketika di Malaysia itulah, mantan aktivis HMI ini melakukan dakwah Islam di sekitar Malaysia dan Singapura. Sejumlah majelis taklim terbentuk karena upaya dakwah Abu Bakar Ba’asyir.

Di satu sisi, kiprah dakwah di Malaysia menjadi peningkatan tersendiri buat Abu Bakar Ba’asyir. Tapi di sisi lain, musuh yang akan dihadapi bukan lagi Soeharto dan rezim Orbanya, melainkan negara haus kekuasaan yang bernama Amerika. Mungkin, tanpa disadari Ustadz Abu, skenario besar sedang dirancang untuk menjeratnya di kasus yang tidak lagi selevel Azaz Tunggal Pancasila.

Beberapa bulan sekembalinya dari Malaysia, Abu Bakar Ba’asyir terpilih menjadi Amir Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia atau MMI. Di antara pendiri MMI ini adalah Irfan Suryahardi, Deliar Noer, Syahirul Alim, Mursalin Dahlan, dan Mawardi Noor. Tidak sedikit pun tercermin dalam aturan MMI yang membenarkan melakukan tindakan terorisme. Pada Kongres I MMI di Yogya, terlihat bahwa MMI ingin melakukan kiprah dakwah secara konstitusional bersama dengan seluruh elemen dakwah yang ada di Indonesia.

Upaya-upaya yang ditempuh oleh Majelis Mujahidin ini akan senantiasa di dalam koridor konstitusi negara Republik Indonesia. Sebagaimana yang dikatakan oleh Sobarin Syakur, Sekretaris Lajnah Tanfidziyah, “Majelis Mujahidin akan terus menda’wahkan dan memperjuangkan cita-cita menegakkan syari’at Islam dengan cara yang konstitusional”. Masih dalam kaitan ini, bahkan di dalam kongres Mujahidin II di Donohudan ditegaskan bahwa Mujahidin menolak aksi terorisme yang bertentangan dengan syari’at, baik yang dilakukan oleh individu maupun kelompok.

Menariknya, MMI menerapkan sebuah format keanggotaan yang bisa dimasuki oleh lintas gerakan Islam manapun dan bersifat internasional. Padahal, syarat dan seleksi keanggotaan belum cukup memadai untuk memfilter mana anggota yang benar-benar ingin berdakwah dan mana yang justru ingin menghancurkan MMI dari dalam.

Usai peristiwa peledakan WTC 11 September 2001, Amerika mengkampanyekan perang melawan terorisme yang dalam bahasa lain, menurut Syaikh Said Ramadhan Al-Buthy, adalah perang melawan gerakan Islam. Mulailah muncul istilah-istilah baru yang sangat asing dalam belantara sejarah gerakan Islam. Yaitu, Al-Qaedah dan Jamaah Islamiyah atau JI. Hal ini wajar, karena dua istilah itu disuarakan oleh media Amerika.

Pada awal-awal tahun 2002, pemerintah Indonesia melalui Menkumham, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, melakukan semacam klarifikasi terhadap kasus Abu Bakar Ba’asyir di masa Orba. Mulai saat itu, kasus lama Abu Bakar Ba’asyir menjadi selesai.

Sayangnya, status tidak lagi berkasus dalam masalah hukum Abu Bakar Ba’asyir tidak berlangsung lama. Pada September 2002, Majalah TIME, menulis berita dengan judul Confessions of an Al Qaeda Terrorist dimana ditulis bahwa Abu Bakar Ba'asyir disebut-sebut sebagai perencana peledakan di Mesjid Istiqlal. Time menduga Ba'asyir sebagai bagian dari jaringan terorisme internasional yang beroperasi di Indonesia. TIME mengutip dari dokumen CIA, menuliskan bahwa pemimpin spiritual Jamaah Islamiyah Abu Bakar Ba'asyir "terlibat dalam berbagai plot."

Ini menurut pengakuan Umar Al-Faruq, seorang pemuda warga Yaman berusia 31 tahun yang ditangkap di Bogor pada Juni 2002 dan dikirim ke pangkalan udara di Bagram, Afganistan, yang diduduki AS. Setelah beberapa bulan bungkam, akhirnya Al-Faruq mengeluarkan pengakuan--kepada CIA--yang mengguncang. Tak hanya mengaku sebagai operator Al-Qaeda di Asia Tenggara, dia mengaku memiliki hubungan dekat dengan Abu Bakar Ba'asyir.

Menurut berbagai laporan intelijen yang dikombinasikan dengan investigasi majalah Time, bahkan Ba'asyir adalah pemimpin spiritual kelompok Jamaah Islamiyah yang bercita-cita membentuk negara Islam di Asia Tenggara. Ba'asyir pulalah yang dituding menyuplai orang untuk mendukung gerakan Faruq. Ba'asyir disebut sebagai orang yang berada di belakang peledakan bom di Masjid Istiqlal tahun 1999. Dalam majalah edisi 23 September tersebut, Al-Farouq juga mengakui keterlibatannya sebagai otak rangkaian peledakan bom, 24 Desember 2000.

Debate Next Week Senate Leaders Aim To Start Health Care

As former President Bill Clinton sought to shore up the resolve of Senate Democrats, Majority Leader Harry Reid insisted Tuesday that the Senate can still vote on its sweeping health care bill before Christmas.
Clinton was addressing the Democrats at their weekly party luncheon, offering a candid assessment of the lessons learned from his own administration's failure to get a health care overhaul through Congress in 1993 and 1994. Democrats lost control of Congress to Republicans in the November 1994 elections.
Reid, D-Nev., said he expects to launch the Senate's health care debate next week, but Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., cautioned that Democratic leaders will not schedule a vote until they know they have the 60 votes necessary to invoke cloture and move onto the bill.
"I want to make sure we have 60 votes committed before we go to the floor, and that's what we're working on," Durbin said.
Reid indicated that a vote on final passage could occur before Christmas, but Durbin acknowledged that it is unlikely a House-Senate conference could finish work in time for Congress to send a final measure to President Obama this year, as the White House had hoped and Democrats had initially promised.
"Our goal is to get it out of the Senate this year," Durbin said.
If Democrats can muster the 60 votes needed to proceed to a heath care bill next week, Durbin said senators would have a week-long Thanksgiving break to digest the measure before the real nuts-and-bolts work on amendments begins, most likely the first week of December.
"We do have a Thanksgiving recess, and we're hoping that the bill will be ready for all members to carefully review it during that time, and then, when we return, that we can meet together and work out our differences," Durbin said.
But first, Reid needs a final "score" from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which it not expected until late this week at best.
"As soon as they can give us the bill, with a score, we're ready to roll," Durbin said.

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration is ready to hand out more stimulus dollars for schools, but this time, strings are attached.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan said another $11.5 billion is available to states, which have already received more than $67 billion.
Duncan said the administration wanted to distribute most of the money quickly to bolster state budgets that have been ravaged by the recession.
Now Duncan is making it tougher to get the rest of the dollars because the administration wants states to adopt President Barack Obama's vision of reform.
States will have to fill out a far more detailed application that demands information on Obama's broad goals — tougher academic standards, better ways to recruit and keep effective teachers, a method of tracking student performance and a plan of action to turn around failing schools.
For example, states will be required to identify their lowest-achieving schools by name and tell the department how, or whether, officials have tried to turn the schools around.
States will also be pressed on how many core classes in poorer and wealthier schools are taught by "highly qualified" teachers. This is an effort to make states do a better job of educating poor and minority kids, who are far less likely to have effective teachers.
But a children's advocacy group, the Education Trust, said the administration fell short of its goal. Nearly every teacher in the U.S. is deemed "highly qualified," because while federal law says teachers in core subjects must be "highly qualified," states were allowed to come up with their own definitions.
"Poor kids and kids of color always get the short end of the stick," said Amy Wilkins, lobbyist for the group, said. "The department managed to use the one metric that obscures the difference."
A spokeswoman for the department, Sandra Abrevaya, said states are also being pressed on the steps they are taking to make sure disadvantaged kids get effective teachers.
Similar strings are attached to a separate $5 million competitive grant program in the stimulus, nicknamed the "Race to the Top" fund, that Obama was promoting in Wisconsin last week.
Obama has already coaxed several states to rewrite education laws and cut deals with unions as they compete for the grants. And states can't even apply for them yet; those applications are expected later this week.

"When Bristol and Levi first told us the shocking news that she was pregnant, to be honest, we all at first looked at the situation with some fear and a bit of despair," the governor said. "Isn't it just like God to turn those circumstances into such an amazing, joyful blessing when you ask Him to help you through?"

The teenagers, who were engaged to be married until their recent break-up, appeared together at the Republican National Convention in September. The Liberal Party has approached El Masri to run in the seat of Lakemba, which used to held by former premier Morris Iemma.
Bulldogs chief executive officer Todd Greenberg told Radio 2GB this morning that Liberal party officials have made an approach to El Masri through him.
"The next phase of his professional life is still under his own thought process and he'll give that some time before he makes what will be a key decision," Greenberg said.
El Masri retired from the NRL at the end of last season and is yet to make a decision on his future.
Premier Nathan Rees says while Labor is happy with its candidate in Lakemba, he would also be interested in speaking to El Masri about running elsewhere.
He has told Fairfax Radio the Liberals will need more than just a star candidate.
"I have the greatest of respect for Hazem El Masri, but any political party needs to know that selecting high-profile candidates is not any substitute for good policy," he said.
The Liberals have never won Lakemba, although they received a 10.5 per cent positive swing in last year's by-election, winning 24 per cent of the vote.
ABC election analyst Antony Green said he is sceptical about El Masri's chances.
"If you're taking a high-profile candidate like that, particularly in a seat with a lot of migrant voters, what you're hoping is that people will follow their community in supporting one of their members as a candidate for office," he said.
"I'm personally a little doubtful. I don't think the Liberal Party have had strong appeal amongst men of Middle East appearance in recent years."
