most innovative sounds in music today comes not from a pre-packaged formula, or a contest winner or a marquee name. Stirring up an incredible buzz locally and statewide with thought provoking, heady lyrics, seamless production and an emotive, inviting delivery from his veritable armory of rhymes, is Hip Hop’s answer to Kobe Bryant, Jac Rip.

Jac Rip, nee Darnell Jackson, completes the package with an incredibly honest and soulful stage presence and love for the art, absent from so many of his contemporaries. Jac Rip explodes onto the forefront with a very respectable list of performances under his belt spanning a decade and a catalog of consistent, dynamic music worthy of his predecessors and influences in the genre.

Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Jac’s story begins like many others; rife with the temptation and struggle of the inner city. Yet his is not the typical formula of “I had to sell drugs to make it out” that has become all too common. Instead, his pen became his religion, his muse, his salvation and his first album, fittingly titled “The Diary”, the obvious and compelling writ of a soul saved by music.

With the backing of fellow artists on his self founded label, Baby Mob Entertainment, Jac Rip's intentions to rock the nation are already being realized.

Jac Rip
Jac.Rip@gmail.com
678-986-6512

Valentine Treat - Best of Jodeci

The Best of Jodeci Mixtape - Free Download
<img style="cursor: pointer; Here, that would be an
inconvenience. There, it will be a state of emergency. If you're traveling
to Philadelphia, Baltimore or Washington, D.C., today or Saturday, you may
want to think twice about it.
What's protecting us for all that nasty stuff, the National Weather Service
says, is a broad region of high pressure over eastern Ontario. It's also
going to keep us cold. Today should see sun through high clouds with
temperatures in the upper 20s. Tonight promises more clouds and a low in the
mid-teens.
Saturday is expected to be cloudy and colder, with a brisk north wind
pushing in behind that storm system down south of us. Anticipated high is
just over 20, with the Saturday night low down in the low teens. A few
lake-effect flurries may sneak down on us from Lake Ontario.
On Super Bowl Sunday, the sun is supposed to return, but the cold weather is
expected to stick around. High again will be in the low 20s. The good news?
There's no significant snow in our forecast until the middle of next week.

General Larry Platt @ The Grammy's

Jackson Family Rememberance Dinner

The Jackson Family, Will be having a Remembrance Dinner , For their Brother, Robert Sr. Lil C. J. and Lil Robert, Friends and Family Will be gathering Jan. 31st. at 5p-9p. at Crucial Community Center at 230 Moselle St. Turkey, Macaroni, dressing, green-beans, home made Biscuits, Pound cakes, and much much more, It's going to be a real good time.

Please come and support our cause, We're going to have 50/50 splits, raffles and donations are welcome but not necessary, All money raised will go towards getting Tombstones for Lil Rob, and Lil CJ. Come and share your memories with our family. Our family had a really trying time In 2009, but we understand That God doesn't make mistakes. Some things are hard except, but you have to remember the God has full control of our lives. Even though they are gone from this EARTH, they will never be gone from our HEARTS, as the Birthdays and first year comes around It's hard to except, But that's when we turn to you God for Peace and strength and understanding, We know we must go on with our lives, We must comfort each other for all that, that's why I thought we need to come together and embrace one another, Some of us aren't understanding enough and need the adults to show them the way. Hope to see you'll there to show our family some real support and LOVE, I woke up early this morning praying that God touch all of our hearts especially our young family members who really are taking It hard and shouldn't have to go through this over and over again. That's why I work so hard to try and make a difference In someones life everyday and sometimes It's hard to try and understand why I don't get the support , But only God can really give me the support I need not man ' I'm really blessed to have came to that wisdom. Things are looking promising Just hope I can prevent some other families and children from going through this, Pray for me as I pray for you . God bless who ever reads this.

Anyone want to bring a dish Is welcome, everyone Is invited to show Us some love, Lets talk about how you remember them and what are you going to get involved In to make a difference. We all need to do our part to help prevent these types of HOMICIDES, did you know we have lost over 2,000 youths over the last 15 years Just In BUFFALO alone, How we as a community became so alright with this type of behavior. Why do we hate each other so much, that we can take a GUN and just KILL your BROTHER or SISTER, Something Is seriously wrong, Are you really alright with this or are you just walking around DEAD or ready to DIE?. Get involved In something other than DRUGS and GUNS, This Isn't what GOD put you here for, What part don't you understand, You really need to ask yourself and ASK some one, Life's to short to leave here early. There's only one why to make a difference, That Is to Change your ways, PEACE and LOVE

May GOD, touch who ever reads this message

@JayGetsBusy Birthday Bash

For Immediate Release from @JayGetsBusy

The brothers wrote to MyFox Detroit that the similarities between Platt's song and their 1996 recording "Back Pockets on the Floor" are more than coincidence, and they want the world to see their version.

The Green Brothers have posted their song on Youtube with the following missive. Watch both version on vote on whether you think Larry Platt ripped them off.

This is in regaurds to the General Larry Platt "Pants on The Ground". His song is a take off of the Green Brothers song " Back Pockets On The Floor'. Back Pockets On The Floor was written by G. Green andwas copyrighted and recorded by the Green Brothers in 1996. The General's song have the same intent, idea and in part the same message.

YOU BE THE JUDGE!!!

The Green Brothers - "Back Pockets on the Floor"

VS

General Larry Platt - "Pants On The Ground"

So you want to be a DJ huh? Today's index is 212.17. This is an increase in the cost of living of 112.17% since 1983. In 1983, the average rate for rate for a pro mobile DJ was about $400 for a 4 hour party or around $100 per hour. It is exactly the same today. In today's economy, a mobile DJ charging $400 is making a gross income of 112.17% less than it was 27 years ago, which equates to -$48.68 for a 4 hour party in today's dollars.

Hourly Rate

Do your fees take into account the hours you spend on event planning, meetings, transportation, set up & tear down, music research & acquisition, accounting, marketing, etc??? If you work a 40 hour week operating your business, do one party per week & charge $400, you will gross $10 per hour. At two parties per week, that's $20 per hour before paying business expenses! Wal-Mart pays better & has more benefits!!!

The 3x Rule

If you're leaving employment to start your own business, a common guideline states that in order to maintain your current pay rate you must multiply your current wages by a factor of three. This means that if your business is grossing $20 per hour, the adjusted rate based on the 3x rule is $6.67 per hour. $6.67 per hr x 40 hrs = $266.80 per week x 52 weeks per year = $13,873.60 gross income before taxes. Did somebody say "Would you like fries with that?"

Retirement

To retire in 20 years with $1 Million (which won't be a lot of money by then), you must invest $1,317 into a tax free account every month that bears 10% interest for 20 years.

Job Description

As professional mobile DJs we are: Announcers, Masters of Ceremonies, Music Programmers, Audio Technicians, Event Planners, Coordinators, & more. How much would these individual professionals charge for each service? An MC alone commands between $300 - $1,200 per event.

Price Comparisons

Based on a wedding reception with 200 guests held at a Upstate NY hotel, a reception coordinator goes for $1550, a cake ranges between $300 & $1,500, meal service averages $6,000, gratuity is $1,080, & sales tax is $1,550 for the day. At $400, a professional mobile DJ is a steal.

The Pie

In 1995, the estimated national average cost of a wedding day was $18,000. The average cost of music was $910. Today, the total cost is more than $25,000. If your fee is only $400, not only is it less than 1995's average for music, but your "piece of the pie" is only 1.6%. Are you responsible for only 1.6% of the events success?

Scarcity

There are 52 weeks in each year. Most events happen on the weekends, usually on Saturday. Most are wedding receptions & are somewhat seasonal, this limits the time a DJ has to create income. Hotels plan their years around these seasonal trends & factor in an occupancy percentage ratio to fit their budgets. They don't depend on filling all the rooms to make ends meet. Anything over that "ratio" is considered a good year. How many events can you do in a year?

Talent

Not everyone can successfully DJ a party. Most people do not have the music knowledge, technical skill, sensitivity, motivational ability, music programming savvy, announcing skills, etc to do a professional job. Most people can't read an audience. In other industries, talent & knowledge warrants a premium fee. Would you go to a cut rate cardiologist???

America's #1 Fear

The no 1 fear in America today is public speaking: getting up in front of a crowd & talking on a microphone. Sound familiar? Not everyone is willing to do what we do routinely. In other industries, this fact alone dictates a high value added fee. Would you become an underwater welder for $10 per hour???

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TheNicestDeeJayEdNice/~3/GyUgGNdiHjo/so-you-want-to-be-dj-huh-how-much-are.html" title="So you want to be a DJ huh? Why? Outside of the fact that I get 300-700 records sent to me each week via Email, Myspace, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Its just impossible for me to listen to every song I receive and still find time for my family and work. In an effort to increase the amount of material I listen to I have outlined “15 Reasons I didn’t listen to your music” in hopes that you will shape up :)

The List:

1. The first tweet you sent me had a link to your music in it… Try starting out with a “Hello!”

2. You sent me a link to your mixtape or album… I recommend sending a single. I’m not sure if I even want to hear ONE track from you but you just sent me 24 of them.

3. You just sent sent 300 other people the exact same tweet… All those tweets show up on your profile. That will stop people from following you because you look like a spammer and cause followers to unsubscribe because you’re flooding their time-line.

4. You emailed me a CDA File… Learn to rip/import a CD. You can’t just drag the songs off the disc into an email.

5. You emailed me a WMA file… I can playback WMA files but that means I have to download them first instead of just being able to preview them in my browser.

6. You didn’t submit any music for the On The Grind Mixtape (www.OnTheGrindMixtape.com)… This is a program I started to give independent artists major promotion on a very tight budget. Over time it has become my system for weeding out artists that are not serious about their careers. I figure if the artist wouldn’t invest $20 of their own money into their record, its probably not worth me listening to.

7. You sent me a link where I had to go through 2-3 screens of ads and wait 45 seconds before I could download it… I recommend using Z-share. Recipients can immediately preview the music and still have an option to download it.

8. I have no reason to listen to your music… You sent me your music but you really didn’t give me any reason to check it. Why do you want me to listen to your music?

9. You just CC’ed me on an email to like 500 other people… I personally don’t appreciate my email being circulated for any and everybody to have. Setup a Fanbridge account or at least start using the BCC field instead so you aren’t exposing everyone’s email address.

10. YOU sent it to me… If your music was really hot and you were doing the things that you need to be doing, I would be hearing about it from other people (DJs, A&Rs, Publicists, Promoters, FANS, Other Artists or Producers).

11. I’m busy… I may have every intention on listening to your music but as you know sometimes the day can just get a way from you. By the time I had the free time I forgot all about the link you sent me. This can be easily avoided if you focus on building a relationship instead of sending out songs.

12. I’ve already heard about you/your music…. Believe it or not this is a small industry and there are very few people in it that are actually here to help independent artists. Don’t think that we don’t talk to each other. So, if you have a reputation for Bullsh*tting, Trying to get something for nothing, Being lazy, lying or just making Bad Music you’ve probably been the topic of discussion once or twice.

13. You’re not a subscriber… 99% of the people that send us music requesting to be reviewed, interviewed, re-tweeted and put in our Email Blast aren’t even subscribers. Our motto at Makin’ It Magazine is very simple, “Support those that support you!”

14. You’re more concerned with getting heard than being listened to… You’ve sent me plenty of songs, emails, videos, etc but have never taken time to follow up to see if I’ve listened to any of them or what I thought. You’re more concerned with throwing punches than landing them.

15. You didn’t read this post… This one isn’t meant for you, but there are plenty of people who saw this post on twitter, their inbox or RSS feed and didn’t bother to read it. Those are the same people who will continue to make the mistakes described above. Lack of initiative is probably the #1 reason for failure in our industry.

This is just a personal list of things that deter me from listening to much of the music I am sent. I’m pretty sure most of these reasons may hold true for many of the other Magazines, DJs, Bloggers, Publicists, Promoters and people you send music to. If you know someone that needs to see this post please FWD it along and don’t forget to Retweet it. If you have something that you think is missing from the list please leave it in a comment below so that I can add it.

via makinitmag.com

How To Pick The Right DJ

Here I have listed a few ways on how to make a decision on picking / identifying the right DJ. These are in order of importance:

1. Experience- make sure your DJ has experience and they haven’t been DJing in their bedroom for the past two months.
2. Equipment- know the difference between professional DJ equipment and home stereo equipment. See my article on Professional Sound vs. Home Stereo.
3. Music – does your DJ have a large database of music? If not, then this is obvious a lot of your favorite songs will not get played.
4. Insurance – make sure your DJ has liability insurance of at least $1,000,000. Many venues require you to hire a DJ with liability insurance and add them as additional insured.
5. Testimonials – does the DJ have testimonials or references? If they cannot provide any, then you need to keep looking.
6. Attire – is your DJ willing to dress for the occasion? If not, then he/she will not bring the kind of professionalism to your event that it deserves.
7. Contract – does your DJ provide you a contract to protect your deposit? If not, then that is a mark against their level of professionalism.
8. Communication – does your DJ communicate to you well? If not, then how well will he/she communicate to your guests?

There are plenty more things that you will want to find out about your DJ, but most of all, use your judgment. If something doesn’t seem right then it probably isn’t.

by Scott Thompson (DJ Skoot)

Pants On The Ground...

I need to get see me some #PantsOnTheGround lol

General Larry Platt - Pants On The Ground

Pants on the ground
Pants on the ground
Lookin like a fool with you pants on the ground
Gold in your mouth
Hat turned sideways, pants hit the ground
Call yourself a cool cat looking like a fool
Walking down town
With your pants on the ground! Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., observed on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of King's birthday, January 15. It is one of four United States federal holidays to commemorate an individual person.

King was the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. He was assassinated in 1968.

The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination. Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed in 1986. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was founded as a holiday promoted by labor unions in contract negotiations. After King's death, United States Representative John Conyers (D-Michigan) introduced a bill in Congress to make King's birthday a national holiday. The bill first came to a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1979. However, it fell five votes short of the number needed for passage. Two of the main arguments mentioned by opponents were that a paid holiday for federal employees would be too expensive, and that a holiday to honor a private citizen would be contrary to longstanding tradition (King had never held public office). Soon after, The King Center turned to support from the corporate community and the general public. The success of this strategy was cemented when musician Stevie Wonder released the single "Happy Birthday" to popularize the campaign in 1980 and hosted the Rally for Peace Press Conference in 1981. Six million signatures were collected for a petition to Congress to pass the law, termed by a 2006 article in The Nation as "the largest petition in favor of an issue in U.S. history."

At the White House Rose Garden on November 2, 1983, United States President Ronald Reagan signed a bill, proposed by Representative Katie Hall of Indiana, creating a federal holiday to honor King. It was observed for the first time on January 20, 1986.

The bill established the Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday Commission to oversee observance of the holiday, and Coretta Scott King was made a member of this commission for life by United States President George H. W.
