Soles talk the old Corman factory classic. This is also the first of a two-parter with Mr. Arkush, whose career in music production, film making, and the realm of television can suimply not be contained to one mere episode. If that isn’t enough? Our old pal, Stake Land director Jim Mickle swings by to talk abouyt his next film, We Are What We Are, about a family of cannibals living in the midst of “normal” society. Plus, a reorganization of sorts as far as our columns…and we introduce our new co-host, Phil Mucci, who replaces Thom Carnell, who takes an extended leave to go play with the undead. Don’t ask. Be afraid.

Things get, er, lively on this week's episode of THE WALKING DEAD. Sean "The Butcher" Smithson and Phil Mucci run their mouths faster then hungry zombies on this episode's commentary.

Yep, things may be picking up over at Lawn Of The Dead, or The Walking Dead. It looks like Rick has grown a pair, Lori’s inner-self is truly emerging, and Shane still exhibits the best sense of the group, next maybe to Bobby.

Listen to me, Sean “The Butcher” Smithson, and my new co-host Phil Mucci meticulously dissect another episode of everyone’s favorite zombie tv show, as well as reveal ourselves to be anti-social; dorks who spend way too much time indoors. Don’t judge us, at least we will be prepared when the proverbial zombie poop hits the fans of this unsuspecting planet.

Anyway, until then, or until our government finally does what the shambling hordes of flesh hungry undead cannot…enjoy. or in the immortal words of a certain off the rails military officer “Choke on it!”.

THE NIGHT CREW returns. We knock the rust off, and get the engines going again with a commentary for the latest episode of AMC's THE WALKING DEAD, with new co-host Phil Mucci.

THE NIGHT CREW is back! We knock the rust off, and get the engines going again with a commentary for the new episode of AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD, which returns from a mid-season hiatus. This is also our chance to introduce you listeners to our new cohost, Phil Mucci. A noted photographer and director, Phil has worked with such luminaries as Green day, My Chemical Romance, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Korn, and most recently Opeth, for whom he directed the jaw-dropping new promo clip “The Devil’s Orchard”. Phil is also the creative dynamo behind the award winning short films THE LISTENING DEAD, and FAR OUT. Both are incredible pieces of film making, and are sure to appeal to genre fans, as well as the true cineaste.

For now though, Phil and I keep the brow low, and the fun high. What did we think of the new episode of this controversial series that is setting cable ratings records, dividing fans, and spawning what looks to be one helluva lawsuit between it’s original creative entities? All you have to do to find out, is fire up that TivO, play this commentary file, and hit PLAY when we count you down 3-2-1 style.

Coming later this week, a full new episode with legendary director/producer Allan Arkush, and actress P.J. Soles. Until then…check out some of Phil’s work below, with the aforementioned music clip from prog-matel legends Opeth, and the psychedeli-humor-otic short Far Out.

Welcome back mofos, to both the zombie apocalypse, and The Night Crew!

Sesame Street, Faeries, and Caligula all figure heavily into this twisted holiday episode of The Genre Magazine For Your Ears...THE NIGHT CREW

Yes, it’s that most wonderful time of the year… Xmas… and The Night Crew have gathered some special presents to stuff down your intellectual chimney and clutter up the floor of your brain. In this Yuletide episode, long-time SESAME STREET and TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES puppeteer, Martin P. Robinson and LABRYNTH and DARK CRYSTAL conceptual designer, Brian Froud, stop by to sit by our hearths and chat about their careers over steaming cups of egg nog.

We also have the usual gathering of our “educated beyond their intellect” crew… Sean, Thom, and Andrew talk Xmas films in our “What We’ve Been Watching” segment, author Lorelei Shannon unwraps “Books That Burn,” seasoned Fangoria contributor Phillip Nutman gets all “stop-motion” on us and discusses the holiday specials of Rankin & Bass, Dread Central’s Gareth Jones looks at how to dispose of those nasty GREMLINS, composer Mars Homeworld looks at the latter-era of shock-rockers The Misfits, Hollywood historian, Dave Del Valle, premieres his new book, SIX REELS UNDER, and Sean looks at Truffaut’s THE BRIDE WORE BLACK, while Thom examines Yojiro Takita’s WHEN THE LAST SWORD IS DRAWN. It’s enough to make Santa join Weight Watchers!

So, get bundled up in your favorite Snuggie, grab a cup of your favorite holiday brew, and sit back, listen, and enjoy this special holiday episode of… The Night Crew!

Three cinematic mavericks of tomorrow, today. ANOTHER EARTH writer/director Mike cahill, and BRAWLER stars Marc Senter and Nathan Grubbs are on THE NIGHT CREW!

This episode we bring you a one-two punch of bad asses of today, cinematic giants of tomorrow. First we have the team of Marc Senter and Nathan Grubbs, who star in the up-coming fight film BRAWLER, a modern homage to its gritty predecessors and one of the year’s best. Then, we have Mike Cahill, the writer/director behind the indy hit ANOTHER EARTH (now on blu-ray and dvd), an existential drama about loss and karma, set within a subtle science fiction framework, also one of the year’s best. It’s pretty high falootin’ around here right now!
Plus, the columns we all know and love return. In What We’ve Been Watching, Sean says Cate Blanchette’s GIFT is still working, Thom is left cold by CHILLERAMA, and Andrew wonders just where REMAINS came from. Lorelei Shannon touts one of the criminally underrated greats from her shelf of fine horror literature, this time it’s WET BONES author John Shirley on the binding. Thom essays on the classic Masaki Kobayashi film HARA KIRI, and Sean breaks down Jacques Becker’s French proto-noir TOUCHEZ PAS AU GRISBI. Phil Nutman pays respects to our dear departed Uncle Ken aka legendary director Ken Russell, with a bit of talk on his adaption of The Who’s TOMMY. Hollywood historian, the encyclopedic guru David del Valle talks autograph collecting, composer Mars Homeworld brings us another round of soundtrack breakdown, this time he takes us on a journey to a FORBIDDEN WORLD, and FANGORIA editor-in-chief Chris Alexander warms it up with some talk of SHAME, something he knows a thing or three about! Natch!
It’s another cinematic feast for the celluloid priest, where the movie house is church, the projector is God, and the silver screen is Heaven.
Welcome to that special Hell for people who talk during the film…
welcome to THE NIGHT CREW.

Here is the inaugural yak-back session from The Night Crew’s Sean “The Butcher” Smithson and Thom Carnell. For firsties, they press “record” and put you in the room with them as they watch the half-season wrap-up of the show that has fans divided and debating their asses off, THE WALKING DEAD. Where the fuck is Sophia? Are Dale and Shane going to have it out? is Rick finally going to grow a pair?

Time will reveal all. And Sean and Thom will be there to vercally poke at it. hey…don’t blame us…you clicked in…and now you are locked in The Screening Room!

So here’s what you do with this here file. First, DOWNLOAD it, then run it concurrently with your TivO recording or other digitally captured copy. As long as it runs commercial free you shjould be ok. The boys also sound off when there has been a commercial break, so keeping up shouldn’t be too difficult.

Let us know if you have fun with this. If you do…we’ll have the boys do some more.
