Terrible picklement. No internet for more than twelve hours. A thousand little useless bits that have meaning for me floating around out there where I can’t verify or learn them. Trying to console myself that at least I can still see what time it is and what I was supposed to be doing... had I internet access.

It’s disorienting.

Causing anxiety I know is stupid, but it doesn’t care.

My “family” is out there wondering if my sleep circus is tearing down its tents, packing up and heading for a new town to upset with its abundance of cracked-Overton-window clowns, acrobats, lion tamers. Why the heck isn’t she posting to her blog? I’m not posting to my blog because I can’t, and it makes me feel as though maybe there was some sort of catastrophic attack I have not found out about yet.

It could be some rat bit through the cable to my house, or a tree strangled it with its roots, or a wildfire somewhere along the main line to the coast, or some fucker trashing the relays along the highways, or even Crassus-Caligula hiding from us that Bibi has nuked the Grand Ayatollah’s funeral. It could be a million things. Some putz at the ISP might’ve flipped the wrong switch, and all the crews are scouring the countryside in search of the problem.

I’m going to drive to the post office to find out if they know. They are just about always the bearers of this sort of knowledge. I think maybe all the utilities and cops and firemen and ambulance services report everything to them as quickly as possible, if only it will keep maniacs like me from going out to track them down and emote all over them.

Only 45 minutes until Jason — my post office boyfriend — will be done getting our mail in our boxes, and I can go emote on him without it causing him anxiety and my neighbors vexation.

I mean, crikey, it’s David’s 750th birthday, and Kenny’s 650th birthday! I spend precious money every month for a stock of nutritional help just to keep this sort of thing straight in my head, and the internet blinks out?

There’s an outage. They don’t know what caused it. Guy at the post office for a passport said there’s a problem clear down in Klamath with flooding from a breaking dam and having to get the lines in from it, but I think he might be on something... or I’m back to my childhood certainty that drinking water begins and ends at the tap, just like electricity comes from the wall plugs... trying to bargain with the buddhas of the ten directions for a break due to the world being too crazy again.

It’s best for me to just blow off this vexation with the vampires at Google and the creepiness of not being able to face ANOTHER outlet for driving me nuts getting the hang of it and then relying on it and then having them “upgrade” it and throwing me off like I just got bucked from a bull... all in service of ensleekification alone. Juggling buttons around; complicating dropdown menus; removing the ability to render carriage returns and tabs without resorting to code; shit like that. Just suddenly apps we know by heart turn into second grade all over again.

Christ-on-a-crutch, I’m a septuagenarian! Show me where the power button is and leave me the fuck alone. I’ve oceans of fish to fry and NO time or patience left for the relentless make-work “upgrades”.

I’m a victim of an AI liar! How chic....

65 hours without internet, and I’m so sick of Dan Carlin’s voice now that I almost want to dump his whole WWI series off my computer. It’s now noon into my third day; the technician has driven off with my dead modem; also fixing where the whacker of weeds got a little too frisky where the cable enters my house; and the feeling is both prickly with loathing and optimism. I can find out the price of tea in China now if I need to... also what’s expected for weather... how many innocents have been butchered while I was away... you know... the world....

I don’t know if I’m going to be able to sign back in here. I own my page name for another year, and I don’t know what they’re going to do with that. I had a spate of really threatening notifications a few months ago that laid down the deadline for complying with their inscrutable, not executable and not even reasonable conditions... and then a long silence.

A nap snuck up behind me and beat me over the head to get me in bed earlier... one of those naps that WILL NOT be denied, unless life and limb will suffer if I do. I reckon I heard maybe two more words of the interview I was listening to when it happened, and then, bam, out like a light and dreaming my shriveled old ass off.

I was in a crowded auditorium where he was speaking, telling my companions they really needed to hear what he was saying. I knew he was serious because he was speaking English so he could be certain we Americans understood what he was saying. My companions were acting as though he were speaking Russian... befuddled.

Then his main point boomed out of him extra-loudly in perfect English. He was as desperate for the American lemmings to break out of the mass suicide mission on which we have been herded as I am. I'm now emphatic to the silliest degree. Oh, he mad, he mad, he MAD! LISTEN to him. He's speaking our salvation....
