This Cordless Kettle is the second product released in 2012 as part of Kitchenware design for Peel. You probably still remember the coffee machine design, this kettle features similar artistic design with subtle soothing blue light. The main aesthetic centrepiece of this unique kettle is the elegantly crafted surfaces that peel away to form the spout.

The lid comprising of a sleek rippled surface pivots open to help communicate where to fill with water. Both the lid and handle are crafted from pressed stainless steel, with their edges falling away into a sea of soft blue light encircling them. Continuous soft glowing LED band lights up the room with colour to indicate when the kettle is boiling and subtly indicate the water level display.

Intricate 3D lines seamlessly fuse the kettle through an unbroken jet black polished band to contrast with the satin matte body.

The kettle boasts a 1750ml maximum water capacity, detachable base, auto-shut off and a flat stainless steel concealed element for fast boiling and easy cleaning.

Mercedes-Benz is suffering some backlash as Cuban exiles in Miami, and across the country, are outraged over the luxury car manufacturers use of Argentine revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara image during a presentation made at CES.

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, Mercedes-Benz suffered somewhat of a public relations nightmare when Dieter Zetsche, Daimler CEO, made reference to Argentine revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara — unveiling a giant one-story image of Guevara complete with a Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star on his iconic beret and causing quite a stir among Cuban Americans in Miami.

According to the Miami Herald, the giant image of Guevara was displayed behind Zetsche during a presentation in which he stated, “Some colleagues still think that car-sharing borders on communism, but if this is a revolution, then ‘Viva la revolucion’.”

Of course given the divisive nature of Guevara’s character and legacy, as is often the case with revolutionaries, the use of Guevara’s image would have no doubt struck a chord among Cuban exiles in South Florida – many of whom were forced to flee their homeland when Fidel Castro (with the aid of Guevara) overtook control of the island nation.

It’s hard to imagine that the people over at Mercedes would have been so oblivious as to not see the folly in using such an image and making such a reference. Regardless of your personal sentiments on the life and political ideology of the influential Argentine, the fact remains that Guevara is a historical figure draped in controversy. Ironically, it seems odd Mercedes would choose to use the image of a revolutionary who voluntarily gave up a life of wealth, luxury, and comfort. One can only imagine what the reaction would have been had Mercedes-Benz chosen to use images of another controversial figure – perhaps from its own history books?

These men wash clothes manually as in washing in cold and shared water, soaping and rinsing from early in the morning till sunset.Indra laundry machine is a design proposal from Elodie Delassus to help these men perform their task easier.

This washing machine doesn’t use electricity as manual labor is still cheaper than machinery and electricity, user can use the pedal mechanical system to spin the clothes. It is a low cost and low tech, yet Indra provides an easier washing process and better water consumption control for Indian cities and villages.

Indra laundry machine has been designed to be easily repaired and built locally, it also proposes the idea of reusing the water by applying smart water filtration system.

Orbit Spherical Washing Machine is a self-sufficient machine. This futuristic washing machine produces its own energy when the machine works. The ring at the center hides huge batteries which are recharged when the Orbit is off, thanks to the induction technology.

When Orbit works, it floats like a cloud, pretty futuristic isn’t it? This is made possible by liquid nitrogen on a superconductive, it utilizes the magnetic flow produced by the integrated magnet inside the ring. The result is magnetic levitation.

The Cryogenic cleaning process involves a jet of solid CO2 being fired at supersonic velocity through pipes. This action will remove all dirt and stain from clothes and leave no effect on them. The CO2 is sucked into the tube to be transformed into its solid form again. Negative ions help freshen and purify the air and the clothes as well.

Andy Kurovets has designed a wrist watch that mimics an hourglass, called Liquid Time or you can also mention it as “From Nowhere to Nowhere”. Beautifully constructed from 2 specially crafted LCD screens, Liquid Time also features creative typography that forms the numbers to tell the time. I don’t see any buttons, wonder how to setup the time or try to illuminate the numbers.

The sleek and stylish metal body offers 3 different colors: black, red and silver, it can be considered as a timepiece and jewelry in one. I think I am now officially a fan of Andy Kurovets’ works.

Based on the scenario, this system works like a phone, except that instead of dialing the numbers, we can choose our neighbor we’d like to call from the display panel and knocking on the wood to make the call. It also allows you to connect to other neighbors throughout collaboration and activities sharing such as vehicle sharing when shopping or going to common places, etc.

Monolith Clock

Designed by Emre Bakir and Mustafa Karakus from Negrocobre Design Studio, Monolith clock conceptoffers a new perspective in telling the time. The body of this unique clock doesn’t look like your traditional clock, in fact, it’s a combination of a clock and a fine art.

Throughout human history, time has been an important concept, it’s the oldest human inventions to meet the needs to measure daily intervals of time. The concept of “o’ clock” is a modern one. Monolith clock has been designed in three dimensions to break the boundaries of classic two dimensions clocks.

The Chef

The Chef is a multifunctional smart appliance that you can use both indoor or outdoor. Bálint Kardos, an industrial designer, has done extensive research on the process of housekeeping, particularly the food making process. One of the Chef’s main functions is to manage the cooking process from pick a recipe, shopping for ingredients, to cooking properly and beyond.

”The Chef”” checks the contents of the refrigerator by the help of the RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) technology which in fact is an information chip within the packaging of the food.

If you write a digital list about the goods that you usually purchase, The Chef enables to compare the list to the contents of your refrigerator. In this way, user can get automatic digital shopping list. Anther way to get the list would be to set The Chef to search for recipes either in its memory or online. This smart appliance will write down the ingredients of the recipe and adds them to the shopping list (taking the existing foods into account).

One of the advantages having The Chef by your side is that you don’t have to go home to check the contents of your refrigerator before you go shopping from work place or anywhere outside home, trust me, it saves you a lot of time. Just in case you don’t feel like shopping, this smart chef can help you finding recipes that you can make from existing ingredients.

In the future, it is predicted that most supermarkets would have “shopping navigation system”. Keeping that in mind, this smart appliance has been designed with ability to connect to the navigation system to help its user finding the stuff in the shopping list faster, in this way, you don’t have to wander between rows and waste your precious time. It will work like a compass with voice navigation system.

When you’re done with your grocery shopping, you can use The Chef to pay the bill as it also works as a digital wallet. On the way, you can remote control any household appliances with this little device for anysimple food prep. For a little gadget, this smart appliance offers you many different features. Let’s just hope that we could put The Chef into production soon, because it will instantly turn all of us into Iron Chefs.

Nokia has released an innovative and futuristic phone concept called Nokia GEM phone. If you feel the display on the phone isn’t big enough, how bout turning the entire handset into a touchscreen? This is whatNokia GEM phone concept offers you.

This futuristic phone was launched as part of the celebration ofNokia Research Center 25th anniversary. You can see that GEM has the ability to change its appearancefrom camera to phone based on the functionality selected by its user. In fact, this phone can display advertising messages on its back.

User could have the same image at different zoom levels, such as when you read a map, it’s possible for you to zoom and pinch the map from the rear of the phone while keeping the view of a large scale area on the front. Smart idea huh?

Jarkko Saunamäki, a senior design manager who led the team that invented GEM, explained that using thisfuture mobile phone, user can launch any application and turn the mobile phone just like its active app. For example when you launch a camera app, Nokia GEM phone concept will automatically transform its body to look like a camera. The video animation from Nokia demonstrates how user can take a photo and transform the result to wrap around the whole device. There’s no need to buy phone casing every month, when you get bored with the old theme, you could just take a cool wallpaper photo and replace the exteriorappearance of your Nokia GEM phone.

Bridgestone Airless Tire

In the future, there’s a possibility that you will no longer have flat tires, ever! Bridgestone Crop has developed a new tire technology which no longer relies on air pressure like our existing tires. If Bridgestone airless tire technology could be implemented on all vehicles, we would no longer need to carry vehicle pump in our car.

This innovative tire utilizes resin spokes formed on the lateral side of the tire to support a load. You can see from the center of the wheel, the spokes don’t run from the inner rim to outer tread in a radial pattern, each angle of the spoke on the inner circumference is around 45-degree different from the outer circumference. In this way, the force that deforms the tread doesn’t turn into a turning force, because the yare both dextral and sinistral spokes.

We really do hope Bridgestone is able to mass produce Bridgestone airless tire as we won’t need to worry about a puncture or fill the tire with air on monthly basis. It also saves a lot of maintenance costs. Not only that, this tire is also environmentally friendly as the rubber of its tread is 100-percent recyclable, it utilizes a recyclable thermoplastic resin as the main material for its spokes. Bridgestone airless tire technology will be displayed at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011.

Rugiada has been designed with 5 essential elements: a humidity (inside the metal head), a photocell for radiation’s detection, a plug-in for water pipes, a ring for manual selection, and an irrigation’s nozzle. In the future, gardening could be one of our alternative food productions, with water as one of its important resources, DDPStudio tried to make us rethink its use.
