The 6'2 point guard also delivered one of the C's lone highlights when he took it coast-to-coast and threw down a power slam on the 6'9 <b><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Durant" target="_blank">Kevin Durant</a></b>.<br />

I'm sure the Celts brass loves seeing Bradley step it up in Rondo's absence, but they should probably work on putting together a team that won't give up 72 points in the first half...</div>

During his address on Fuel last night UFC president<b> Dana White </b>ripped into undefeated boxing champ <b>Floyd Mayweather</b>, calling him "a racist" and telling him to shut up and fight <b>Manny Pacquiao</b>. </div>

A few weeks ago Mayweather tweeted that “Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he’s Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don’t get the same praise.” While admitting that Lin is getting attention for being Asian-American, White blasts Mayweather for the tweet and makes the point that guys like <b>Kobe Bryant </b>and <b>Michael Jordan </b>get plenty of praise for their accomplishments.<br />
<br />
White then goes on to tell Mayweather to "stop shooting your big mouth off on Twitter" and fight Pacquiao, the fight that boxing fans have been waiting for for years. The two fighters have been unsuccessfully trying to schedule a fight for a while and, like the rest of us, Dana White has apparently gotten pretty sick of it.<br />

Now, you guys can argue all day about who's ducking who in this Mayweather-Pacman fight that will probably never happen, but props to White, the president of boxing's biggest opponent, for saying what everybody else is thinking and egging Mayweather on.<br />
<br />
Mayweather has yet to fire back at White's comments but I think it's pretty safe to say that a response is coming, "Money" has never really been one to shy away from a fight...well, except, you know...nevermind.<br />

Boston has scored fewer than 90 points in 6 of their last 7 games, and not surprisingly gone 1-6 in that span.</span></div>

Villanova blew an 18 point first half lead, just two days after they blew a 20 point lead against Notre Dame on Saturday night.</div>

Talk about bad timing. The NBA suspended Celtics point guard <strong><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajon_Rondo">Rajon Rondo</a></strong> on Monday for his actions during Sunday's game against Detroit. In the third quarter, Rondo took it to the rack and got hit once and knocked down after the shot. He let the referee hear it from him and as the ref was about to give him a tech, Rondo decided to chuck the ball straight at his chest. Rondo immediately got tossed. </div>

If I were Rajon I wouldn't even try to appeal. I would just take the two game suspension and sit out against Dallas and OKC. The Celts will probably lose these two games anyway. This way he can get about a full week rest (with the all-star break starting Thursday) and come back with the Celtics hopefully healthy again.</div>

Just when things were starting to pick up for the Celtics, they've dipped right back down. They've lost four out of their last five, including losses to cellar-dwellers Toronto and Detroit. The injury bug hit the team this week too, with a couple of their main pieces going down. This past week they went 1-3, but they still sit in the seven spot in the East. They have to watch out though because the red-hot Knicks sit only a half game behind them. </div>

<a name='more'></a>Last Friday the Celtics took a trip up north to pay a visit to the Toronto Raptors who they had just smoked by 36 a week earlier. This game was different. The C's were coming off a one point loss to their arch-rivals, the L.A. Lakers. They came out flat and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Rivers"><b>Doc</b></a> let them know it when he flipped his lid during a first quarter timeout. They never recovered and ended up losing the game by 12.</div>

On Sunday, they hosted the NBA's best Chicago Bulls on ABC. The Celtics were embarrassed coming off their loss to the Raptors and came out firing. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajon_Rondo"><b>Rajon Rondo</b></a> took full advantage of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derrick_Rose"><b>Derrick Rose</b></a> being out due to back spasms and scored a career high 35 points. The C's looked like a contender all game and ended up taking down the Bulls by four without <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Bass"><b>Brandon Bass</b></a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jermaine_O%27Neal"><b>Jermaine O'Neal</b></a>. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JaJuan_Johnson"><b>JaJuan Johnson</b></a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Wilcox"><b>Chris Wilcox</b></a> provided a punch with the other bigs out as they combined for 23 points and 13 rebounds. </div>

Bass didn't play in the Chicago game and is probably going to be out until the all-star break. He provides energy and scoring off of the bench so someone else is going to have to step up. </div>

Wednesday's loss to Detroit might be the worst I've seen the Celtics play all season. Doc Rivers summed up his team perfectly in his post-game press conference when he said, "We've proven that we can beat anybody, and we've also proven that we can lose to anybody." The Pistons are pathetic and the Celts lost to them by 10. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Gordon_%28basketball%29"><b>Ben Gordon</b></a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Monroe"><b>Greg Monroe</b></a> were huge for the Pistons on Wednesday. </div>

The Celtics then flew to Chicago for a Thursday night game at the United Center. The C's started off strong, once again jumping on the Bulls. Unfortunately, this time Chicago was able to answer and went on a 22-2 run and took a 16 point lead early in the third quarter. The Celtics ended up making a comeback of their own and took a 61-60 lead early in the fourth quarter. They just didn't have the gas to finish this one out and the Bulls went on to take it 89-80. The crucial part of this game was the rebounding. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joakim_Noah"><b>Joakim Noah</b></a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Boozer"><b>Carlos Boozer</b></a> combined for 31 rebounds. If the Celtics can't keep teams off the glass then it'll be a first round exit in the playoffs. </div>

The Celtics travel to Detroit, Dallas, and Oklahoma City next week before they have a nice break for All-Star Weekend. If I had to take a guess I'd say they win one of those next three games and finish the first half of the season at exactly .500. This isn't the start that Celtics fans were expecting, but it's what they got. We're treading water right now and we need to get Bass back from injury. The main goal of the Celtics right now is to get that number six seed. They do NOT want to play either Miami or Chicago in the first round of the playoffs. </div>

The Bruins announced today that forward <b><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Peverley" target="_blank">Rich Peverley</a></b> will be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a third-degree MCL sprain in his right knee as a result of a knee-on-knee collision with former-Canadiens defenseman <b><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hal_Gill" target="_blank">Hal Gill</a></b> (he was just traded to Nashville today) in the second period of the Bruins' 4-3 shootout win Wednesday night at Montreal.

Gill's knee-to-knee hit wasn't penalized even though, at least from my point of view, it appears to be intentional. Pevs was attempting to avoid the body check of Gill, who stuck his leg out to trip the Bruins winger instead. And it looks like Gill tried to throw a high elbow for good measure too. </div>

Marchand's hit didn't injure Emelin but was still reviewed by <b><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendan_Shanahan" target="_blank">Brendan Shanahan</a> </b>and the NHL. It was ruled not worthy of supplemental discipline. To my knowledge, the league didn't even look into the Gill hit. </div>

The NBA has seemed to ruin what used to be a great event. This year the Slam Dunk Contest will only consist of one round in which each contestant will be able to showcase three dunks. The winner will be chosen by the fans via twitter, NBA.com, or text message. </div>

The 2012 participants are <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derrick_Williams_%28basketball%29"><b>Derrick Williams</b></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iman_shumpert"><b>Iman Shumpert</b></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_George_%28basketball%29"><b>Paul George</b></a>, and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chase_Budinger"><b>Chase Budinger</b></a>. If this was a race then Shumpert would already have a ten second head start. The dude plays in New York and guess who's going to be assisting him in one of his dunks. Some guy named <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Lin"><b>Jeremy Lin</b></a>? You may have heard of him. The most hyped-up player in the NBA who throws the ball away more than a garbage man. If fans vote and Shumpert just puts on a half decent performance than you better believe he's winning this thing.</div>

I don't understand the logic behind this. Why are they doing away with the judges? They've had fans vote in the finals for a few years now but this is just ridiculous. It's turned into a popularity contest. If you leave the votes to Twitter than people are just going to see Jeremy Lin and immediately vote for Shumpert. As a matter of fact I wouldn't be surprised if Lin got the majority of the votes. People just see him on TV and tweet his name.</div>

The Dunk Contest is probably going to suck this year and the NBA played a huge role in killing it. They need the judges and they need the big stars. If <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwight_Howard"><b>Dwight Howard</b></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blake_Griffin"><b>Blake Griffin</b></a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeBron_James"><b>LeBron James</b></a>, and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwyane_Wade"><b>Dwyane Wade</b></a> participated then the ratings would be through the roof. It's sad but this will never happen, and the Dunk Contest has been in a decline ever since <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_Carter"><b>"Prince" Vince Carter</b></a> wowed the crowd of Oakland in 2000.<br />

In the closing moments of the second period last night in Montreal, Bruins forward <b><a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDcQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FBrad_Marchand&ei=9hc9T4feBaXV0QHR3KC0Bw&usg=AFQjCNHVmsnbzmEXemfCceOM8NFFQ7idSg" target="_blank">Brad Marchand</a> </b>closed in on the Canadiens' <b><a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FAlexei_Emelin&ei=DBg9T5XZMIPu0gGt8ZXtBw&usg=AFQjCNELZxvjEyZfCsYJBQsjvxsRvjsLHw" target="_blank">Alexei Emelin</a> </b>in the corner. But instead of hitting Emelin up high Marchand ducked and went in low, earning the attention of the referees and a minor clipping penalty.<br />

You'll probably remember that Marchand took a lot of heat for <b><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6IF4mQ-AYY8" target="_blank">going in low</a></b> on Canucks forward <b><a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDYQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSami_Salo&ei=Hhg9T53lHaPJ0AHNi5nDCA&usg=AFQjCNFVJQgtrmhOT7AzSQp1o1HnCMpTaA" target="_blank">Sami Salo</a></b> a few months back, a hit which left Salo with a concussion and Marchand with a five-game suspension.<br />
<br />
While this hit on Emelin wasn't quite as dangerous as the one on Salo, it was every bit as dumb. There was really no need for it considering the situation - Emelin in his own defensive end passing the puck with time about to expire in the period.<br />
<br />
It's not a hit that would usually wind up in a suspension, especially since it appears that the point of contact between Marchand and Emelin is around the hip and not the knees:<br />

But, let's be honest here, this is Marchand we're talking about. The guy's got a reputation, especially after the Salo hit, and we've witnessed that prior histories seem to carry a lot of weight in this league when it comes to discipline.<br />

<b><a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDcQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FBrendan_Shanahan&ei=Qxg9T8zqEKnl0QHp4_ilBw&usg=AFQjCNEg27aRK38Y-MAstRPePtz9oly_bQ" target="_blank">Brendan Shanahan</a></b> likely won't be too happy about this hit (his reaction might be somewhere along the lines of "I THOUGHT WE JUST TALKED ABOUT THIS!') but whether he deems this incident as a "a predatory, low hit delivered intentionally" remains to be seen.<br />
<br />
I don't think Marchand should (or will) end up with a ban this time, but that doesn't mean that the hit wasn't dumb as shit. I love the pest but I think he really needs to mature and start playing smarter hockey, and taking low hits out of his game would be a great start. Hits like this aren't going to sit well with many people in today's uber-sensitive NHL, especially when you're already in the league's disciplinary crosshairs.</div>

Anaheim Ducks defenseman <b><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cam_Fowler" target="_blank">Cam Fowler</a> </b>nearly beheaded a referee last night when he launched a slapper from the red line that acted like a heat-seeking missile targeting straight for an unlucky referee. It hit the ref up high, much to the pleasure of the (classless) crowd in Minnesota. Even if he had issued some tough calls throughout the game, which is apparently the case, that's no excuse for cheering at a potentially dangerous and scary incident like this.<br />
<br />
Fortunately, it's not only the players who are known for their toughness in hockey. The ref toughed it out and finished the rest of the game. It takes a much tougher man than me to shake off a Fowler slapshot to any part of the body, never mind above the shoulders. Talk about one tough sonuvabitch.</div>
