Snacktime Storage!

About a year ago, I was roaming down the canning aisle at Wal-Mart trying to find Ball mason jars for my sister's bachelorette party when I ran into these neat Ball freezer jars.

I picked up two sets of the 8-oz. jars and two sets of the 16-oz. jars.

After I purchased them, I didn't have enough time to use them (with all of my sister's wedding festivities going on), so I placed them in a cabinet and forgot about them. When I was cleaning out that particular cabinet this past weekend, I found them, washed them, and immediately started using them.

I love the fact that the lid strews on!!! My daughter has a tendency to sneak into (literally) the pantry, choose a snack, and hide in there until she is finished. Now, with these screw on lids, she will have a harder time doing that.

My Cleaning Tips!

Last week, I shared some of my top cleaning essentials...

This weekend, it is all about the process...

I started on some cleaning projects around my house this past weekend. In my household, cleaning can refer to two things: dusting or cleaning-out. I haven't gotten to the dusting stage. That will begin once school is out on Friday. But, I have started the "cleaning-out" part. Over time, cabinets, drawers, closets, pantries, etc. get filled with mess. It just happens! It doesn't matter how nice you cleaned and organized it the first time around, you still have to continuously revisit it.

Through my years of cleaning, I have developed some tips that I "try" to follow. Some are easier than others, but I do know what I am supposed to be doing...

You have to know where you are going in order to know what path to choose. Right?!?! Notice that I said the word "goals" and not "goal." It is best to set several goals throughout the process. Smaller goals are more attainable and will keep you motivated to continue on. I HAVE to do this or I go insane. I will tell myself, "Today, my goal is to cleaning out the pantry." Once that goal is reached, I can either relax for the rest of the day or set another goal. I actually have a sense of accomplishment more often using this method, which gets me pumped for my next goal.

The dust bunnies aren't going anywhere. Believe me, if a magical cleaning fairy appeared at some point, I would definitely know about him or her. So, don't bust your rear end trying to speed through the process. I have learned from experience that it only makes you mad, frustrated, and completely exhausted!

Over the years, I have learned that taking breaks is a must! The times that I haven't taken breaks, I have paid for it that evening and the next day. My feet will hurt, my back will ache, and sometimes, it even becomes hard to walk. I must confess that sometimes I do not clean in the best footwear. Maybe I should work on that a little!

This is very very important! If you haven't dusted for awhile and try to use the same rag for the entire house, you are wasting your time. After awhile, all you are doing is smearing the dust all over your furniture. Sad, but true!!! I usually try to use a rag for the fans, and then, a rag for each room in my house unless a room is extra dirty, then I may end up using two rags per room.

Now, to the bathrooms and kitchen... Same thing applies to these rooms. At some point, you are just smearing dirty water or a dirt/cleaner mixture on your counters, tubs, sinks, etc. Don't forget to use separate rags/sponges for your toilets. You sure don't want toilet water in your tub. ; )

This is probably my biggest weakness! I have trouble asking for help in all areas of my life. But, especially when it comes to cleaning. I get to a point where I feel like the dust is piling up around me (remember, I am OCD) and sometimes it doesn't bother my husband as bad. So, I have a hard time asking him to spend his "extra" time helping me clean the toilets. LOL!!! He would definitely help if I asked, but I just have a hard time asking. I am sure other ladies can relate.

Music helps everything go by faster. Right?!?! Why not attempt to enjoy the cleaning process by listening to your favorite songs. Hey! It may even get you in the cleaning mood. It definitely won't hurt.

I hope you find these tips helpful! I will definitely keep them in mind when I begin my dusting portion of my cleaning adventure next week.

Bedroom Colors!

Since I jumped into the idea of redecorating my bedroom, I have thrown around different color combinations in my head. I am female, so I automatically go towards the bright and frilly colors. But, then I have to stop and remember that my husband does share the room with me and he doesn't want to see polka dots all over the place. So, I am trying to compromise and choose colors that are a little more gender neutral, but by throwing in a great print in those colors, you can see a sense of me in the room.

After thinking... and thinking... and thinking...

Here are the colors that I am leaning towards using in our master bedroom.

At the moment, you are probably thinking, "how blah!" But, I am looking at some prints and patterns that will make each one of these colors stand out.

I have a confession to make... This is the first time that I have jumped in and designed a room by myself. I usually find a comforter or bedspread that I like and buy it with all the accessories and call it a day. Not this time!!! I am going to attempt to match colors, fabrics, prints, and accessories.

I am a little nervous about this whole process, but I am trying to stay confident. The goal is to finish the room and not give up!!! So, bear with me... I am sure it will be a fun ride.

A Bedroom Window Dilemma & Inspiration!

Just call me Mrs. Indecisive! I have always been an individual that hated putting a bed in front of a window. I am not sure why, but my OCD self just didn't like it. For some odd reason, it never felt balanced to me.

Side note: I will move furniture around in a room, look at it, and see if I get the right "feel" from the arrangement. I like my room to give me that balanced feeling in my head, and if it doesn't, it bothers me.

I know... I am weird! But, I have been that way since I was little. I can remember moving my furniture around in my childhood bedroom over and over again.

Since my husband and I are working on the appearance of our bedroom, we have been looking at ways to move furniture around (amongst other things). This past weekend, my husband mentioned moving our bed in front of the large window in our room. It is the only other wall in our room where the bed can be placed, so it is either leave it the same or move it to that wall.

On a positive note, the window is sitting directly in the center of the wall. So, we will have just enough room on either side of the window to place our end tables.

After thinking about it and continuously looking at my room, I may give it a shot. I mean, what is the worst thing that could happen? I may hate it, but I can always move it back to it's original place.

My Cleaning Essentials!

This past weekend, I told my husband that I was going to do some massive cleaning once school is out. Our last day is next Friday, the 24th. My house hasn't had a good cleaning since my baby was born. I know, I am super embarrassed, but what are you supposed to do when you have a four-year-old running around and a newborn to care for? Don't get me wrong, I have done some light cleaning here and there, like cleaning bathrooms and a little dusting, but nothing major. So, it is long overdue!

I must have great timing because yesterday I was reading Jen's daily post on one of my favorite blogs, iheartorganizing, and she was introducing her May mini-challenge. And, what might that challenge be... Cleaning House!!!

Now, I have some motivation to get my house clean! Since I have one more week before I can start this challenge, I thought I would show everyone my cleaning army. I have tried many cleaning products over the years and these are the ones that I have been using recently to get my house in tip-top shape.

1. Swiffer Duster Extenders - These are perfect for cleaning fan blades, crown molding, and walls.

2. rags - I have a box of old towels and dish cloths that serve as my cleaning crew.

3. Clorox disinfecting wipes - I love to use these on the bathroom counters. I also keep a set in the bathroom cabinets for those times when you want to disinfect the counter and toilet real fast.

4. o-cel-o sponges - I use these to clean the tubs, kitchen sink, and oven.

5. Swiffer sweeper - I LOVE to use the sweeper on my hardwood floors and tile. I use the dry cloths for the hardwood and the wet cloths for the tile. My daughter even enjoys helping in this department.

6. Clorox Green Works natural all-purpose cleaner - I use this for mirrors, windows, and everything in between since it is an all-purpose spray.

7. Kaboom Foam-tastic cleaner - I have tried MANY bathtub cleaners and this one is by far the best I have tested. You spray a blue foam on the tub and let it sit for a little while. When you come back, the foam has turned grey from the dirt on your tub. Awesome!

8. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - When I have a tough stain on the tub (usually from makeup I have noticed) and the Foam-tastic doesn't get it off, I turn to these handy items. Just a little scrubbing will get anything off.

9. Clorox toilet bowl cleaner - I use this on my toilets. I love that it has bleach too. It makes me feel like my toilets are extra clean.

10. Pledge furniture spray - I use this for all the wood furniture. I love the smell of lemon. It screams CLEAN!!!

11. Lysol disinfectant spray - I love to spray the couch, chairs, comforters, etc. with this awesome spray. It helps eliminate all the germs.

What you haven't noticed on my list is a lot of Earth-friendly products. My goal is to start incorporating more and more environmentally-friendly cleaning supplies. They are not only better for the environment, but for us as well. Breathing in chemicals is not good for anyone, no matter what age you may be. If you have a "green" product that you can't live without please share it with me.

Planning for Family Photos!

When my daughter was born, we set up a "Watch Me Grow" series of photos with Photography by Katrina in Union City, Tennessee. Katrina takes pictures of your baby at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and then 12 months. And, of course, we had family photos taken at each session as well. We were very happy with the way Katrina's photos turned out, so we decided to use her again for Derrick. Our first session is May 18th and I am trying to decide what photos I want taken and the outfits I will need for each.

Having pictures taken requires some planning, especially when you have 4 individuals to think about in the process. One thing I have learned is that simple is better! Wearing busy clothing distracts from the picture. So, I am trying to keep that in mind.

If you know me and my husband, you already know Derrick is getting a few FOOTBALL themed photos made!!! We can't help it. We are a football family. My husband is a coach, so you know I want to capture Derrick in that environment.

Since this session is coming up real soon, I have been searching the Internet for inspirational photos. I wanted to share some of the pictures (and Websites) that I have found as inspiration.

The Case of the Phone!

Guess what this girl did? FINALLY purchased a new cellphone. I had an iPhone 3 and wanted to upgrade to the iPhone 4s for a solid year before I decided to take the plunge. Why did I wait so long? Well, I kept thinking I would catch an awesome deal and get the phone for $49.99. After the Internet on my phone started continuously crashing when I tried to load it, I decided it was time to bite the bullet. I paid $99.99 for it, but I am still pretty excited.

The camera on my iPhone 3 was horrible. It didn't have a flash, so I had to make sure I took pictures where the lighting was good and the quality was STILL bad. And, come on... People LOVE pictures. I want to have great pictures on my posts and for my instagram account (theocdlifestyle) and I wasn't satisfied with the current ones. I do have a nice camera that I use for most of my pictures, but it is the times when I am out and about and need a quick shot that was lacking. Everyday, no joke, I said I needed a new phone because of the camera. And, I FINALLY have one now.

So, I hope you will see an increase in the quality of all of my pictures. Thank you for hanging in there through all of the not-so-great ones.

In addition to my phone, I got an awesome new case from Shutterfly. I was given the opportunity to review one of their products at no charge to me. I am a HUGE fan of Shutterfly and I was very thankful for the opportunity. All of my photobooks, the date print hanging in my office, and many actual photos came from this wonderful company. So, I decided this time around to try the iPhone case. And, let me just say, they are AMAZING!!! I chose several pictures of my children and one of me and my husband for the case. A Few of My Favorite Things: May 2013

Each month, I will start sharing some products that I am using and/or loving at the moment. I thought it would be a great way to show everyone some of the things that I use at home. These things will not only include organizational items, but clothing, home accents, beauty products, and children's goodies. In a nutshell, everything is game! ;)

If there are some products that you think are pretty awesome and feel I should try, please let me know. I am always looking for new products to test. It makes me happy when I find a product that changes my life.

So, without further ado, here are some of my favorite things in May...

1. Shutterfly iPhone Case

How neat is it to have your children's, pet's, or friends's photos on your cellphone? I ordered myself one of these beautiful cases with my babies' pictures on it.

2. Hand Stamped Personalized Necklace

I absolutely LOVE this necklace. I found it while searching on Pinterest one day. Handmade with a charm for each of my children's names and birthdays, my husband's initial & mine, and our wedding date. This would make an excellent mother's day present. *hint, hint*

3. Bath & Body Works Oceanside Scent

I purchased one of these wallflowers to try out as one of my summer scents and it is amazing. It has a very light and fresh scent. I am not fond of candles and scent bars that have a strong "take your breath away" scent. So, this is perfect for me!

4. Under Armour Perforated Great Escape Shorts II

I am signed up on Under Armour's email list. So, I am always receiving emails with new shoes and apparel. I received an email a couple of weeks ago with these shorts and I have thought about them ever since. I can't bring myself to pay $29.99 for a pair of running shorts, but that doesn't mean I can't ooh and aah over them. Right?!?!

5. Pinkalicious

My mom came home from a shopping trip with this book for my daughter. She thought Kate would LOVE this book since pink is her favorite color. And, my mom was absolutely correct. She had me reading the book twice and her daddy three times on the first day she got it. Very cute story!

6. Coton Colors Bargello Mix Dinnerware

Have I mentioned that I love Coton Colors? Have I mentioned that I love bright and colorful dishes? I have the red and white chevron plates by Coton Colors hanging on my kitchen wall. I would LOVE to add some of these to my collection. They immediately make me smile when I look at them.

Children's DVD Storage: Take 2

A year ago, I created DVD storage for my daughter that I thought was going to leave us with a lot more space and a more organized environment. Boy was I wrong!!!

I thought my daughter would leave the DVDs alone since I placed them in a box and put them in our entertainment center in the living room. Wrong again!!! She would sneak in the living room when no one was in there and snatch a DVD or two to play with in her room. Next thing we knew they were popping up in her purses, under her bed, and everywhere she played.

They started out looking like this last year...

And, they ended up looking like this...

So, I decided it was time to try something new. That is the thing with organizing... A solution may work great at one point and then become a complete disaster. It is all about the process. There are always better ways of doing things and I am always looking for that better way.

I had these binders laying in my office waiting to get used, so I thought they would make a great solution to my problem...

And, I purchased these Vaultz CD pages from Wal-Mart...

Step 1: Sorting

I sorted the DVDs into two categories: Disney and non-Disney. Yes, we have that many Disney DVDs!!! I also made sure that I had all of the information packets for each DVD. I collected all of them and stacked them in a pile.

Step #2: Storing

Next, I placed all of the Disney DVDs into the 1" binder sleeves. Then, I placed all of the non-Disney DVDs into the 1 1/2" binder sleeves.

I put all of the DVD information packets and a few actual cases (for travel) into the pink box that once housed all the DVDs.

Step #3: Creating a List

Next, I got out a piece of paper and a pencil and created a list of all the DVDs I placed in the binders. Then, typed up two separate lists in Microsoft Word; one for the Disney DVDs and the other for the non-Disney DVDs.

Step #4: Creating a Label

I don't have a picture for this step, but I created a label using Microsoft Word and Avery 18160 labels for the edge of the binders.

Step #5: Putting it all Together

Maybe this technique will work a lot better than the last one. Only time will tell!!!

The Hamper!

For months, I have looked for a wicker hamper for my son's bedroom. I purchased my daughter's cherry wicker hamper with pink gingham lining before she was born in 2009. Wal-Mart sold them as well as several other stores. I guess they discontinued them between 2009 and 2013 because I haven't been able to find one since I purchased that particular one.

I have looked at several other options, but I didn't like any of them. I told myself I was going to keep looking until I found one that met my expectations.

Last week, I decided to look at Walmart.com one more time... and, BINGO!!! They are now selling the wicker hampers again. They are a little different than the older ones, but this girl isn't complaining. I am just happy they are selling them again.

You can purchase them through Wal-Mart, but the actual company selling them is Wayfair.

Things You Should Know About Me if We're Going to Be BFF!

I did a post like this awhile back, but I think it was called 20 things about me. I saw that Ashley from Little Miss Momma did a similar post, so I decided to redo mine. I thought it would be a good way for y'all to get to know me a little better. I have included my likes, dislikes, and even some of my quirks. Enjoy!!!

I heart birthday cake & cupcakes.
My vision is so bad that I would be considered legally blind without my contacts or glasses.
The dryer works as my iron.
I married my high school sweetheart.
My childhood family nickname was Speck because I have freckles. I still have family members that call me by that name.
I despise condensation on the outside of glasses & soda cans. So, I wrap a napkin around the outside of the glass/can when I drink (unless I am using a Tervis glass).
I have thick hair.
I use static guard on my hair instead of hairspray to battle the frizziness.
Making up the bed in the morning is a must... passed down from my mom.
I do not wear high heels. I own one pair & haven't worn them in years.
I have scoliosis.
When I get nervous or anxious, I bite or pick at my nails.
When I was born, one of my legs turned in, so I had to wear bar shoes (actual shoes with a large metal bar between them) when I slept. My mom still has them. Sometimes when I'm not paying attention that leg still tries to turn in.
I still have my security baby blanket. I slept with it up until 2 years ago when it almost fell apart. Now, it has a permanent home in my closet.
I believe that everything is better with monogramming!!!
Coffee with lots of french vanilla creamer is a must in the mornings.
I still have magazines that I bought back in 1994.
I hate to be alone.
My husband & I have worked together since August 2010. I had my apprehensions at first, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I love it!
I absolutely hate it when I am getting ice out of the freezer and a piece busts on the floor... everywhere!!!
I hate clutter... It makes me feel like I can't breathe.
I love everything about Disney!!!
My clothes hang in my closet according to color and type.
I have tried many different hair colors and styles (curly, dark, short, long, etc.), but I always go back to blonde and long.
I still believe in Santa Claus... Don't you?!?!

I have never held or tried a cigarette.
I wear a white tank top under everything... I would say I wear one 364 days of the year.
I like to car jam... Shocking? Hear a good song on the radio and you have to sing... Right?!?!
I think parenting makes you extremely emotional. I can get teary eyed at the drop of a hat.
I consider myself pretty open about my life experiences... If someone can learn from some of the mistakes I have made, then why not share them.
I believe we forgive others not for them, but for our own peace.

Master Bedroom Bedding Options!

Bedding, bedding, bedding... I feel like I have looked everywhere for the perfect bedding set for my bedroom with NO LUCK!!! I have looked everywhere from Macy's to Wal-Mart. I guess I am being a little picky about the issue, but when you spend that much money, you want to make sure to get the right thing. My husband and I would like a quilt or something similar to a quilt because we do not like thick bedding. It is great in the winter, but awful in the summer. Also, we need something that is a little darker. We have two little ones and our daughter likes to hang out on our bed. I love all of the white comforter sets that I have seen in many people's homes, but I am just not that brave. I would stress every second of the day in fear of getting it dirty.

I have opened up my mind and attempted to find something that we both like and will look good in our bedroom.

Dresser Decor!

Yesterday, I shared my dresser makeover with everyone. I still haven't put my clothes back in the drawers because I want to make sure it is 100% dry, so I don't mess up the paint. I have a fear of that happening anyways.

Today, I am sharing some of my dresser decor. You have seen these things in other photos and in other areas of my house. It is great when you find accessories in your home & don't have to go out and make unnecessary purchases.

Originally, I wanted to purchase a large canvas print to place above my dresser. Then, I remembered I had the engagement poem my husband wrote me that was matted in blue, and a white frame (which I love) that would look perfect over my dresser. They were hanging above our end tables. BINGO!!!

The Dresser Makeover!

Over the weekend, I decided to tackle the first project on my list for our master bedroom: the dresser. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous before starting this major project. Remember, I have only painted one other piece of furniture in my house and it was just a table... with straight lines. So, attempting to paint something with so much detail was a little scary. Plus, I didn't want to ruin my grandmother's dresser, especially since my mom wasn't too thrilled about me slapping a coat of paint on it. But, I kept telling myself that if I messed up, I could always redo it. It is just paint!

Remember the dresser before...

I purchased the following supplies from Lowe's...

Step 1: Sanding

Step 2: Painting

(It took approximately 4 coats of spray paint.)

Step 3: Glazing

(I went by the directions on the back of the bottle.)

Between painting and glazing, I let the dresser completely dry overnight in my garage.

And, the final result...

I had to end up using the same knobs that were originally on the dresser because they were very oddly shaped. Lowe's did not have anything near the size of them.

Some people may be wondering why I call this a "dresser" instead of a "chest of drawers." Believe me, I know the difference, but I think the word "dresser" is short and sweet. "Chest of drawers" gets a little wordy. ; )

We made it to another Friday... YAY!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful & stress-free week. I know I stayed busy getting caught up on grading work that my students completed while I was on maternity leave. In addition to getting ready for the final stretch of the school year.

I wanted to give y'all a little info about my shopping preferences. I am an individual that has to purchase Talls in almost everything. I am 5'7, which I know isn't really tall, but I HATE to purchase shirts that ride up when I sit or walk. Plus, I have a longer torso area. If you have ever had to search for taller clothes, you know that it is VERY hard to shop in actual stores. I have found that Old Navy sells Tall clothes online, so I do A LOT of my shopping that way. But, I always wait until they have a good sale to purchase anything!!!

Now, to the point of this post... my fashion finds!!!

Old Navy Boyfriend Cardigan

I purchased this cardigan in 3 colors: royal rowena, fuschia, & jade. I told y'all I have an obsession with cardigans, especially ones that are extra long. When I purchased these online, they were on sale for $19.00 and they had a 25% off code for online shoppers.

If you look at any fashion Website, magazine, or blog, you will see a chambray shirt. I like button-up shirts and could wear this style with many different types of pants, so I purchased one. I purchased it at the same time I purchased the boyfriend cardigans and received the same deal.

Since I have been pregnant most of this school year, I have been out of the loop on trends until now. I avoided every clothing section and Website during my pregnancy because it made me a little sad that I couldn't make a purchase. But, heck, even if I could have bought something what size would I have bought?!?!

Even though I didn't shop, I did notice the cute clothes other people were wearing. One of the common tops I noticed were these lightweight and flowy tops. I later learned that they are called pikos. Pikos are made of bamboo and are popping up everywhere.

So, once my baby boy was born, I decided to purchase one (in jade) to see how it would look on me. I still have a few pounds to lose, which I am really self-conscious about, so I have to remember that it will look a lot better once I shed those last few Derrick pounds. Can't wait to see how it looks once that happens!!!

The Dresser!

Yesterday, I shared my next project with everyone: my master bedroom. Instead of tackling this monster head on, I have decided to work on it in stages. My goal seems more attainable that way.

My first project for this room is my dresser...

This dresser was my grandmother's as a child, which is why I have hesitated to do anything to it. It is great quality wood, but isn't furniture that screams "Kristin!" And, it is very dark; like everything else in the room. Even with my hesitation, I have decided to bite the bullet and paint it. If I decide later on that I don't like the look of it, I can always sand it down and start over again.

After searching for some furniture ideas on Pinterest, I have decided to go with this type of look...

I plan on leaving the top of the dresser the original color and painting the bottom blue. When I say blue, I mean more of a light blue or teal type of blue. I am looking at a color similar to this one...

The Master Bedroom (Before)!

Since I have finished Kate and Derrick's rooms, it is time to move on to the next project on my 2013 project list. After careful thought, I have decided to tackle our master bedroom next. Lets be honest, if there is one room in my house that I hate it would be the master bedroom. And, your bedroom is supposed to be the room that you love the most. We have put all of our effort and hardwork into every area of our house, but our room.

Every time I stop and think about our bedroom, Oprah comes to my mind. I remember her making the following statement on her show:

Your bedroom should be a space that reflects your relationship and fosters calm, warmth and love.

Our bedroom doesn't do any of those things and it sure doesn't make our relationship look strong and loving. It is a dark, messy, thrown together room that drives me insane. So, it is definitely time to change my perception of it.

When I went to take pictures of my bedroom this weekend, I started to clean it up a bit and I stopped. I want everyone to see it in its natural light, so ready or not, here it is...

I am sure you are thinking, "What a mess!" And, yes, you would be absolutely correct. I guess that is why I don't spend much time in there.

Friday Fashion Finds: April 5th

Over the past couple of weeks, I have tried to find ways to incorporate my love for fashion into my blog. Organization is my first passion, but clothes and fashion come in at a close second. In high school and my first 3 years of college, I planned on majoring in Fashion Merchandising. I completed all of the coursework and decided to change my major to Marketing, which added an extra year to my college experience.

Why did I change my major? I completed an internship between my junior and senior year in Management for a retail store and decided it wasn't the career for me. I wanted to get married and have a family eventually and working long and sometimes very early hours was going to make that very difficult. Plus, my husband (boyfriend at the time) was already a volunteer football coach and he had very long hours as well. My long and odd hours plus his long hours would' have made having a family difficult. When I say difficult, I do not mean impossible, but it would've been very stressful.

Enough with my rambling...

So, I have decided to devote Fridays on the blog to my fashion finds. Let me know what you think of this new change. I know y'all do not read my blog posts to see what cardigan I have been eyeing or purchased this week, but I thought it would be a good way to bring on the weekends.

My Top 10 Newborn Essentials

It has been a little hectic around my household for the last month and a half. It is amazing how much you forget after your baby isn't a baby anymore. I had my daughter 4 years ago and I almost feel like I was in a bubble that entire time because I have forgotten a lot. I even forgot how much I loved some of the products that I used with her. The other day, I was feeding my son and silently started thinking how amazing it was to have the Bobby pillow that I was using to help out. It actually allows me to rest my arms while I feed him, which is awesome. After that thought, the light bulb in my head turned on and I thought, "blog post!"

So, today's post is all about the things that I find essential when having a newborn. I use all of things on a daily basis and they are definitely worth the money.

1. Born Free Bottles - These bottles are BPA-free and have an internal vent that helps prevent colic and gas. They are very durable and last a long time. We are actually using the same bottles that we used with my daughter. We just purchased new nipples and vents.

2. Philips Avent Soothie Pacifier - We have tried several pacifiers with my son and these are the only ones that he likes so far. He is not a huge fan of the pacifier, but when he wants one this one is his favorite.

3. Kalencom Laminated Buckle Diaper Bag (heavenly dots - chocolate/blue) - I used this brand and style with my daughter and chose to use it again with my son. I love how the outside of the bag is laminated. If you are in the rain or spill something on the exterior of the bag, it wipes right off. Also, it has many pockets for bottles and accessories. Plus, it comes with a nice size changing pad too!

4. Mustela Baby Hydra Bebe Body Lotion - Nongreasy amd lightweight lotion that is gentle on your baby's skin. It is made with shea butter and smells wonderful too.

5. Boppy Pillow - This little number will be your best friend when it is feeding time. Place it around your waist while feeding your bundle of joy and your arms will say thank you. You can purchase the actual pillow, then slipcovers that you can change as often as you like. One of my favorite gifts by far!!!

6. Avent Bottle Sterilizer (similar) - The sterilizer in the picture is the actual one that I use, but I think it has been discontinued or the style as been updated. We use this sterilizer at least twice a day. After letting the bottles soak in soap and hot water, we place them in this device to sterilize them. This particular model holds 6 bottles and accessories at one time. I highly recommend this to anyone that bottle feeds.

7. OXO Bottle Brush - We use this brush to get into the bottles and nipples while cleaning them. I recommend this particular one because it is good quality, the bristles are soft, and it has a nipple brush too.

8. Gerber Birdseye Prefold Cloth Diapers - I am sure you are wondering if I actually use cloth diapers. Well, I actually don't. These awesome diapers make excellent burp cloths. I have used them with both of my babies. Of course, you want to have the cute burp cloths when you go out somewhere or when you have company over, but these Gerber ones get the job done for all of the other times. They are VERY absorbent, fit on your shoulder nicely, and they wash well (which is the most important part).

9. Fisher-Price Soothe & Glow Seahorse - Talk about a lifesaver... This seahorse plays 8 lullabies that last a total of 5 minutes. While the lullabies play, the seahorse's belly lights up. They remind me of the glow worms that I had when I was a baby. My daughter has a pink seahorse and my son has a blue one. Anytime my baby is crying, I turn his seahorse on to see if it will calm him down. It worked every time with my daughter and she still loves hers. I love this item so much that I have started giving them as baby shower presents to new mommies.

10. Boppy Bouncer - I use this anytime I need to do some things around the house and don't want to lay Derrick in his bed or on a pallet. He likes to be sitting up, so he can see everything. The seat vibrates and it has several different music selections. It even has one that sounds like the womb.

What baby items do you find the most important? I am always looking for new things to try with my newborn.

Project #2: Redo Kate's Room

In January, I shared the photos of Kate's new furniture that we had ordered. It finally came in two days before Derrick was born. Talk about good timing! My mom, husband, and I spent all day that Saturday putting Kate's room together. We had no idea that two days later, we would be welcoming our baby boy into the world. It is funny how God makes sure that everything works out!

Today, I would like to share the finished project with everyone. I am extremely happy with the way her room looks now. It looks like a little girl's room and she absolutely loves it!!!

Project #1: Finish Derrick's Nursery...Part 2

I am happy to announce that Derrick's nursery is finished!!! Or, as finished as it is going to be for the moment. There are some small things that still need to be done, like finishing the pegboard, but the majority of it is done. I am actually pretty proud of the progress that has been made in such a short amount of time. When we started working on his room in December, I really didn't think we would be able to move all of the playroom things somewhere else. But, we gradually chipped away at it, and now it looks like a little boy's nursery.

We ended up selling the entertainment center, moving the table and kitchen to the office, the couch went to Kate's bedroom, and the shelving unit is in my closet. I am sure you will see all of these things in later posts.

Welcome to the World Derrick Parker!!!

The anticipation has been killing me. I tried to wait until next week to officially start blogging again, but I couldn't wait any longer to share my beautiful baby boy with everyone.

On February 18th (President's Day), I woke up around 7 a.m. with some major pains in my lower back and pelvic area. After two false alarms, I was bound and determined not to go to the hospital until I KNEW it was time. The pain was constant and gradually got worse throughout the morning. My parents and husband felt I was in active labor, so we packed our stuff, got dressed, and headed to the hospital.

On a side note, I had been sitting at 3 centimeters dilated for several weeks without any progress. Every week I went back to my OBGYN, I just knew I had increased at least a centimeter... and, nothing. So, you can see why I was in denial.

Once I arrived at the hospital, they hooked me up to a monitor, inserted an IV (I hate IVs!!!), and checked my progress. Sure enough, I was in active labor... I was dilated between 5 and 6 centimeters.

After 9 to 10 hours of labor, Derrick Parker Morgan entered the world at 9:45 p.m. that evening weighing 7 lbs. 6 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.

The day we left the hospital, Derrick had newborn photos taken at the hospital. I wanted to share those too... because I am a pretty proud mommy at the moment.

Even though labor and delivery comes with some pain, it is all worth it in the end. I tell everyone that giving birth to my two children were the most awesome experiences of my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Hold on, let me explain... I would redo those two experiences again. I know what you were thinking... She is ready to have child #3. Negative!!!

For the last 6 weeks, I have been given the opportunity to stay at home and bond with my new little man. It is amazing how much you forget in 4 short years. I even questioned myself when I was changing his diaper the first few times. And, out of the gate, I got almost pooped on and peed on several times. But, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Now, my family feels complete! I never thought about that statement until after my son was born. Honestly, I have this feeling of completeness in my heart. I guess my heart felt like something was missing that I never noticed until now.

God has truly blessed my family. My husband and I have been given the opportunity to raise a daughter and a son in this world. The best of both worlds! We could not be happier.

Thank you to everyone for being patient with me over this past year. Honestly, for months, I didn't feel like myself and hoped I would get back to being "me." I am happy to say that I am back and more excited than ever to share my life, experiences, and projects with you.

Rolling in the Deep... Mommy Deep!!!

Getting off the topic of organizing today to share some personal thoughts with everyone...

Today, I think it is all sinking in... I am about to be a mommy of two!!! I don't think it has really hit me until this moment. Maybe it is because today is the first day of February, which is the month I think I will go into labor. Or, maybe, it is because I will be 36 weeks on Sunday, which means they won't attempt to stop my labor if it starts. Or, maybe it is because I am having a baby shower on Sunday, which makes the "we're having a boy" idea completely real. Opening gifts that are tiny and blue instead of frilly and pink is going to be a whole new experience for me. Whatever the reason may be, it is FINALLY starting to sink in.

And, momma is hitting her emotional soapbox. : ) For the first time, this experience is hitting my emotional side.

Now, all that runs through my head are questions...

Will my labor and delivery go as smoothly this time around?

Will I feel differently when the doctor hands my son to me for the first time?

Will the love I have for my son be different than the love that I have for my daughter?

Will my daughter love her baby brother?

Will they both know that I love them dearly?

Will my daughter feel like she has taken a back seat to her baby brother?

How will two babies change the relationship that I have with my husband?

Will I go through the same post-partum depression that I went through with my daughter?

Will everything be harder having two babies?

and, above all...

Will I be a good mom to both of them?

I am scared, nervous, excited, and anxious all at the same time. The first time around, I was not what people would call a "natural mother." I am not sure if it was because of the post-partum depression that I went through after having my daughter or the high expectations that I set for myself. For some reason, I felt it should be as easy as it looks on television. And, it definitely isn't!!! At any rate, it took awhile for me to tell myself that I wasn't a complete failure as a parent. I beat myself up over everything and felt like I was under a microscope most of the time. Almost like the mommy patrol was watching me... whoever they may be.

I am still learning how to be nurturing to my daughter, and many days I still question every action I make... But, is that a normal feeling of any mother? I look back at some of the things I did to my mom as a child and have no idea how she didn't completely lose it with me. Did she feel like I didn't love her when I acted out? How did she cope on the days where she felt like a complete failure? It truly takes being a mom for you to appreciate the things that your mom sacrificed for you. In less than a month, I will get to experience and appreciate all of the things my mom has done (and is still doing) for me on a whole new level... The level that involves having two babies to care for instead of one.

So, today, if you haven't told your mom how much you love and appreciate her, stop and do so... She not only sacrificed her body for over 9 months, but she has also given up a lot of things for you to have "the best."

Filling up the Space... Bathroom Style (Part 2)

Last week, I gave everyone a look inside my master bathroom closet. My husband and I had nothing but wasted space at the bottom of the closet until we decided to purchase a 3-tier rack and better organize the area.

This past weekend, I tackled my daughter's (soon-to-be daughter and son's) bathroom linen closet. It was SO BAD!!! It got to where we would open the closet door and toss random sheets, blankets, and towels in there. When you have too much stuff, this tends to happen!

So, I made a trip to Target and purchased one of their 3-tier wire racks (currently not sold online) because it was on sale for the week. They were originally $19.99, but last week Target had them for $15.99.

Now, each one of our kids (including the dog) have their own shelf at the bottom of the closet for blankets.

Last year, we separated everything into big bins that we could slide in and out of the shelves. At the time, I thought it was a good idea, but it ended up taking up way too much space. So, this time around, I removed most of the bins and stacked the blankets, towels, etc. directly on the shelf. We will see if that works better for us.
