How to fix export signed application fail [Cannot allocate memory]

After updated the latest ADK, I can't export signed application with Eclipse. I just got this error dialog.

Unfortunately, my machine is an old 32bit with resources that not enough to run AndroidStudio. That means I still using Eclipse for dev the apps. (Why they keep making tools that requires more and more computer's resources anyway ?)

By the way, I finally found the way to fix this problem. 'cause I using Ubuntu, Just type this command in the shell and everything is back to normal.

# echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/overcommit_memory

How to unlock Galaxy Nexus Bootloader

This is the easy way to unlock Galaxy Nexus's bootloader. I using Linux PC and Android SDK to do the job.

1.Backup your pictures and contents because this procedure will delete all of your phone's contents.

2.Unplug usb cable from PC, Turn off your phone, hold volume up and volume down buttons then press down power button. the Fastboot menu will be shown on screen.

3.Connect usb cable with Linux PC. Use Fastboot tool to unlock the bootloader(Fastboot tool already included in your android SDK)

# fastboot devices
List connected device

# fastboot oem unlock
This will unlock the phone's bootloader

4. Use Volume up/down buttons to select at "Yes" option and pressing power button to unlock the bootloader. Now your old contents will gone forever.

5. Restart the phone. Now you have to do fresh set up for your phone.
After unlock bootloader, you can now install other images on the phone.
Have fun !

How to turn Android Tablet into PC

This is the cheapest way I have found to make my Nexus 10 tablet to work like PC. This is what I 've done.

1. You will need ...

Android Tablet (3.x and above)
USB On-The-Go
USB hub
USB keyboard (I use infrared wireless keyboard)
USB mouse
Tablet Stand : I made my own Lego tablet stand, like this->

2. First, Fully charge your tablet (because Android use usb port for charging it.So, you cann't charge it when connect with other usb devices)

3.Connect usb keyboard & mouse with USB hub. Then connect USB hub to USB On-The-Go and plug USB On-The-Go to the tablet.

4. That is !! Now you can use mouse and keyboard to control your tablet like normal PC. Have fun :)

How to fix "Android SDK Content Loader" always loading at 0%

I have a headache caused by this problem. After I did update the Android Development Tool (20140702) I have an issue about "Android SDK Content Loader" doesn't load anything. I have tried many thing as they said on the internet but it just a temporary fix. Here is what I found out how to fix this problem.(I using Ubuntu Linux )

1. First, when "Android SDK Content Loader" is loading at 0% then kill adb and eclipse process at your terminal.
# ps aux | grep adb
# kill -9 XXX
where XXX is adb process id.

#ps aux | grep eclipse
#kill -9 YYY
where YYY is eclipse process id.

2.Move the Android SDK folder to be temporary folder.
#mv android-sdk android-sdk-backup

3.Execute the Eclipse, this time it will ask for the SDK folder. Just point to another SDK folder. (I downloaded another SDK)

4.When Eclipse has finished all loading process. Move the temporary folder back to normal.
#mv android-sdk-back android-sdk

5.Then set the preference path of the SDK back to normal setting. It should work again.

#AndroidWear Preview : Connect to Emulator

Yesterday, I couldn't install Android Wear Preview app from Google Play on my tablet Nexus 10 (even it is KitKat). So, I asked on the developer forum. People told me that the app just doesn't support tablet yet (phone only) and somebody suggested me to find apk file (try searching on XDA website)and install it directly. Today, I just did it.

1. I ran the Emulator up. Read this page for the setup.

2. I connected my Nexus 10 to my computer via USB cable and open the Android Wear Preview app then set it's notification access as they say on the Get Start page

3. Then I connect the emulator and Nexus 10 by running below command on the terminal.

adb -d forward tcp:5601 tcp:5601

4.Finally, the Emulator displayed my Nexus 10's notification. Wow !!

Speed Up "Android JNI" Tricks and Tips

Recently, I got a job to speed up application that using JNI. Many people thought by using native code, it should run faster than Java but I found out that is not always true.

First, the passing parameters from Java level to native code are using time to convert and if you use JNI so often then that gonna be heavy load.

Second, you need to allocate/deallocate resources by yourself in native level(there is no garbage collector in C/C++ ) and that takes time to do anyway.

Ok. Here are tricks and tips for speed up your Android JNI app. Hope it works for you too ...

1. allocate/deallocate just one
The bigger memory you need, the slower you are. So, if it's possible. Try to do allocate and release the resources just one time.

2.don't allocate too big block memory
    Check you code that you really need that much resource? Just use that it needs to be run properly.
for example, data = (unsigned char *)malloc( BLOCKSIZE + 100 );
May be +100 is not necessary.

3. don't use double
   I don't know why but in native code, double makes slow. I changed it type to normal "int" and it running a lot faster.(make sure it doesn't make wrong result)

4. set MAX priority to the thread
   I found that when garbage collector thread is running, some delay may occur(not much but it does go slower) So, try to set your JNI caller thread's priority to MAX that will (somehow) prevent garbage collector thread to run during JNI call.

5. try "ARM" mode
   In your Android.Mk file, add LOCAL_ARM_MODE := arm line and rebuild the code. I found out that the default Thumb mode is slower than Arm mode. However, I'm not sure that it gonna be true for all device.

Here is the tip, because it was so hot in japan now. So,If you ticked "Compute on Battery" then the limit maximum setting temperature will pause the calculate processes.
Tick "Show advanced preference and control .." and set "Max. battery temperature" to upper value (my case at 90 degree)

After google it. It seems they added more setting into Android project that make using libraries don't go with the apk. So, just right click on your project and click on
Java Build Path -> Order and Export and tick on "Android Private Libraries ".

I think it has a bug on MonkeyRunner that by using touch command, it can't touch on any item on Gallery view. After Googled it and tried a lot of solutions, I found one that might work for you ... Here it is

1.Using "adb shell" to enter your android device.
