It's with a heavy heart that I announce that OM Collection will be closing its doors. I am so grateful for our amazing team, suppliers, and customers, and so honored to have been a part of something so special.

OM was created out of a desire to make fashion more feminine, comfortable, and sustainable. We believed that if we could inspire self expression, movement and an awareness of how our choices impact the world around us that we could help make a better world. 

As the company took me to far away places, often on the move for months at a time I began to see that a well curated collection could simplify a life and would enable people to buy and own less while wearing each garment more.  

OM was born out of a vision I had in Bali, Indonesia and often felt like it had a momentum all of its own. Through the process of launching, building and sustaining the business I was called to grow and stretch as a person and had the pleasure of meeting extraordinary people along the way. 

It's been the honor of a lifetime. 

I've had the privilege of working with the most amazing team - truly kind, hard-working, and good-hearted people (mostly women) many of whom I consider some of my closest friends. We've had the most incredible customers, mindful and curious and caring, and willing to take a chance on a small brand. This community is the reason we've made it so far, and have continued to grow every year.

It hasn't been easy being the sole founder running a growing company. I covered many roles - designed every capsule, ran every financial projection, and just never stopped. Eventually, I ran myself into the ground. As much as I tried, OM Collection was not able to meet the needs of my family in this new chapter.

There's a chance that OM will come back in another form, or maybe this is the end. No matter what happens, I want to thank you so much for your support. I'm so proud of all we've built together. I will never forget this season of my life, and how you so generously poured out your support for OM. Modern life moves quickly.

It can feel like there are endless to-do's, never enough time in the day, and that no matter how hard you try, you will never catch up.

But this is all an allusion.

If we shift our expectations, and change our perspective; we can find fulfillment.

A great place to start is organizing your environment and eliminating excess.

The last several months, many of us have spent an unusually large amount of time at home. If you're anything like me, you may have begun to feel confined by the walls of your home and trapped by the need to manage the stuff in your space. Excess stuff can also distract you from the work that you know needs to be done and rob you of the precious time needed to build a life that you love.

Here at the OM Collection we believe less is more. If you have clothes that you love, that you want to wear over and over again, you can get by with less. This will not only free the mind of clutter, but it's good for the environment and your pocketbook as well. 

My second recommendation, is to honor the relationships closest to you by expressing your gratitude and setting intentions to deepen (or heal) those relationships.

Covid shines light on the people that we miss the most. It also shows us how much we lean on the people closest to us.

We may not be able to physically see some of the people we care about; but through a simple letter or a phone call we can express our gratitude and find a way to grow together.

Third, honor that which brings you joy.

This summer people around the globe have tended to home projects and grown a garden in an effort to settle a restless mind and make use of idle hands. For many this has brought with it a deep sense of meaning and fulfillment.

When we slow down and make time for small tasks, we can learn unexpected things about ourselves and find a deep well of joy that we may have been too distracted to notice was there all along.

And finally, ask yourself; with the world moving a little more slowly, what single goal, if accomplished, would put you more in alignment with your soul path?

For many this has been an incredibly stressful time. It can feel suffocating and stifling to have your options limited. But if you shift your perspective, and instead view this as an opportunity to slow down, simplify, and make the most out of this unique time in history; you may realize this is a great time to further your education, shift your life in a new direction, or take the time to eliminate that which is no longer working. 

 It's likely that we will continue to live in an altered way for several more months, now is the time to ask yourself how can you make the most of it. Consider implementing one or several of the recommendations above, and let us know how it goes for you.

Q: What does your morning routine look like?

A:  I have no set routines and allow myself to fluctuate my activities depending on my energy, time, and environment. I never skip breakfast, though! 

Q:  What is your daily practice or favorite resources for finding happiness?

A:  The biggest thing I have taught myself this year is that my wholeness and happiness is on me and not contingent on anything outside of me, so I don’t seek it outside much now. However, I love being involved in meaningful projects, having nice conversations with strangers, gifting thoughtful little things to friends, texting to check in on my loved ones, documenting silly mannerisms of my cat, indulging in coffee every day, and occasionally watching funny youtube videos.

Q:  Give us a quick description of your career, and what has inspired this area of focus.

A:  Right now I am a full-time PhD student and not focused on working. I do teach yoga and give yoga therapy sessions, but it is mostly because it is intrinsically rewarding.

Q:  What tips would you offer for living an inspired, productive or meaningful life?

A:  As selfish as it sounds, living for yourself, meaning not as others would expect you to live, act, behave, and value. Being authentic is another way to say it. My life is very easy because I don’t mind what others are doing, compare myself, and my life is meaningful because I foster wonderful friendships and use my acquired knowledge and skills to help others.

When you think of green superfoods, celery may not be the first veggie to come to mind. Kale, spinach, or even avocados are known for their health benefits, but celery juice is actually ‘having a moment". Believe it or not, drinking 18oz of celery juice on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning can lead to some serious health perks.

I recently participated in a Celery Juice Challenge for 30 days.  I noticed a positive result almost immediately.  Challenge is simple: drink celery juice first thing in the morning for at least a week and see if you notice any of the health benefits listed below.

The study in question, published May 6th, 2019, assessed the buildup of the active ingredients in household sunscreens in the blood plasma of 24 healthy people. Researchers found that after four days of consistent use at the recommended dose, blood plasma concentration of each key ingredient far exceeded what is generally regarded by the FDA as ‘safe.’ (For those of you who like to know the details, compounds that stay below blood plasma concentrations of .5ng/mL do not require further toxicology testing. The ones assessed in this study were found at concentrations up to nine times that level.)

To clarify, you should ABSOLUTELY use sun protection! A physical barrier such as a light weight shirt is the least toxic and most effective solution.  Try any of our new long sleeve shirts for a stylish alternative. If this isn’t an option, there are wonderful nontoxic organic sunscreens to choose from.  

But this study highlights a MUCH broader problem: your body absorbs more chemicals from your personal and home care products than previously thought. It’s more imperative now than ever to read ingredient labels and to make informed decisions about what goes in and on your body. The FDA currently recognizes two common sunscreen compounds as safe and effective: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Both form a physical mineral barrier, rather than a chemical one, against the sun’s rays. Leave it to nature to come up with the best solution!

Luckily there are many natural, plant-derived solutions for everything from face wash to countertop cleaner. Rather than worrying about applying too much of a product too often, I’d prefer to use as much as I need without the potential for toxic buildup. My medicine cabinet has undergone a dramatic shift over the past few years. I opt for plant-based products rather than reaching for an over-the-counter pill or prescription bottle.

I love essential oil-based remedies for both internal and external problems. Essential oils are extracted from a wide range of plant sources and are easily, safely, absorbed by the skin. I regularly use Wild Orange essential oil aromatically to lift my spirits and for its anti-anxiety qualities. Lavender essential oil is one of my absolute favorite sleep aids. Just a few drops in my diffuser and I instantly relax! When training for a triathlon doTERRA’s Deep Blue Rub is an absolute essential - Wintergreen and Peppermint essential oils stimulate circulation, speed recovery and lessen soreness.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body. It provides a physical barrier against harmful environmental agents, but it is not impenetrable. Before we dive in to these questions, it’s important to take a step back and realize that CBD is one of many compounds that acts on your body's endocannabinoid system.

First, a little terminology; your endocannabinoid (EC) system is your friend. It’s the network of compounds and receptors in your body activated during times of stress (physical or mental). Activation of EC receptors CB1 (in your brain and central nervous system) and CB2 (in your body) eases the symptoms of stress.

Your muscles and brain can relax and a sense of wellbeing washes over. Phew!

Endocannabinoid may be the health buzzword of the year. Your body makes endocannabinoids which interact with your EC system receptors in various ways. Plants also produce compounds that bind to EC receptors. THC, CBD and BCP are all a part of this family of molecules called phytocannabinoids (plant based). Why are these three letter compounds suddenly everywhere, from coffees to creams to cocktails?

THC is the psychoactive component of marijuana and the first to get recognition in the press - it’s the part of “weed” that triggers a psychoactive effect by directly interacting with the brain’s neurotransmitters. It’s the part that gets you “high”. No it (probably) won’t make you crazy, but THC can impact your mood, emotions and general mental state. It is not recommended for kids under 18, nursing mothers, and is known to have side effects.

CBD, also found in marijuana and hemp strains, works a bit differently. It indirectly affects CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain heightening the presence of anandamide, stimulating the brain and nervous system. So, while CBD is not psychoactive, both CBD and THC can directly (or indirectly) affect receptors in your brain.

Many people use THC, CBD, or a combination to combat anxiety and stress disorders. For those who wish to harness the power of the EC system without any psychotropic effect or impact on brain receptors, it’s beta-caryophyllene (BCP) to the rescue! BCP acts on CB2 (body) but not CB1 (brain) receptors.

Emerging research is revealing a myriad of benefits to regular BCP supplementation, mainly pain management and neuroprotection. BCP may also allow us to utilize the body’s natural system for pain and stress management to promote comprehensive wellness. I like to think of this as “teaching the body” to manage stress and pain, rather than slapping a bandaid on a recurring problem.

Where do I get this BCP, you ask? Well it’s naturally occurring, of course! All of the best things are… doTERRA Copaiba Essential Oil has tested around 55% BCP (the highest of any oil)! It’s also found in Black Pepper Essential Oil in lower concentrations. More research is needed to determine the effective dose in humans (although it’s been suggested that 1-2 drops of Copaiba Essential Oil is enough to have significant results).

As with all phytocannabinoids, research is still young and test results are still early, but it’s encouraging to know that natural remedies for symptoms as persistent and life-shattering as chronic pain or panic disorders could be right around the corner!

Does it conjure up your favorite reading nook in your current abode, or perhaps the town you grew up in? For me home is, and has always been, this magnificent planet we call Earth.  

I can’t say how this perspective developed, but from very early on, when others were supporting their favorite sports teams, or feeling the pride of their country, I felt a sense of love and responsibility towards the magnificent life-force that is our planet and all the inhabitants on it.

The more I learn about this ball of life I live on, the more extraordinary it seems. Did you know it takes a molecule of air about two weeks to traverse its way around the globe.  I’m reminded of a Buddhist meditation where you inhale all the problems of the world, then exhale love, compassion, and healing. With awareness and devotion the mere act of breathing can be a prayer. Consider for a moment your own breath as you call it in your body and release it back in to the world.  Where has it been, who has it touched, where will it go next.

Perhaps it is the intimacy I FEEL with all of the systems of this planet that encourage me to live in harmony with it. But the truth is, this is hard in the modern world, and as technology and globalization spread, it no longer feels sufficient to merely be grateful for what she (Earth) provides.  

I respect the clothing brand Patagonia.  Many years ago they had a campaign that said “don’t buy this shirt.”  It arguably launched them in to the successful brand that they are today.  The founders were nature lovers, climbers and devoted to conservation and the hard truth is that while clothes are a necessary part of life, the fashion industry is very hard on the environment.  

This week we celebrate Earth Day….and much like next month’s major holiday, Mother’s Day...I sincerely hope that the sentiment of caring for that which gives us life is more than a single day’s event.  I encourage you to take a moment and consider how you can make choices that are harmonious with the long term health of our planet.

I’ve made a commitment to myself and my customers to provide products that are in alignment with the principal of sustainability.  I do my best to make unique styles that can be enjoyed both stylistically and functionally for a long time. (5+ years in contrast to the fast fashion of today)

The OM Collection uses organic fibers in many of its designs; knowing that the items that are closest to your skin, such as yoga bras, should be free of pesticides and other toxic chemicals to keep you and the planet healthy.  We also use recycled fabrics in our H2OM and our new Divine Play Collection; by taking a lesson from mother Earth and closing the resource loop, waste products such as plastic bottles become beautiful cherished print yoga leggings.

Does it conjure up your favorite reading nook in your current abode, or perhaps the town you grew up in? For me home is, and has always been, this magnificent planet we call Earth.  

I can’t say how this perspective developed, but from very early on, when others were supporting their favorite sports teams, or feeling the pride of their country, I felt a sense of love and responsibility towards the magnificent life-force that is our planet and all the inhabitants on it.

The more I learn about this ball of life I live on, the more extraordinary it seems. Did you know it takes a molecule of air about two weeks to traverse its way around the globe.  I’m reminded of a Buddhist meditation where you inhale all the problems of the world, then exhale love, compassion, and healing. With awareness and devotion the mere act of breathing can be a prayer. Consider for a moment your own breath as you call it in your body and release it back in to the world.  Where has it been, who has it touched, where will it go next.

Perhaps it is the intimacy I FEEL with all of the systems of this planet that encourage me to live in harmony with it. But the truth is, this is hard in the modern world, and as technology and globalization spread, it no longer feels sufficient to merely be grateful for what she (Earth) provides.  

I respect the clothing brand Patagonia.  Many years ago they had a campaign that said “don’t buy this shirt.”  It arguably launched them in to the successful brand that they are today.  The founders were nature lovers, climbers and devoted to conservation and the hard truth is that while clothes are a necessary part of life, the fashion industry is very hard on the environment.  

This week we celebrate Earth Day….and much like next month’s major holiday, Mother’s Day...I sincerely hope that the sentiment of caring for that which gives us life is more than a single day’s event.  I encourage you to take a moment and consider how you can make choices that are harmonious with the long term health of our planet.

I’ve made a commitment to myself and my customers to provide products that are in alignment with the principal of sustainability.  I do my best to make unique styles that can be enjoyed both stylistically and functionally for a long time. (5+ years in contrast to the fast fashion of today)

The OM Collection uses organic fibers in many of its designs; knowing that the items that are closest to your skin, such as yoga bras, should be free of pesticides and other toxic chemicals to keep you and the planet healthy.  We also use recycled fabrics in our H2OM and our new Lush Collection; by taking a lesson from mother Earth and closing the resource loop, waste products such as plastic bottles become beautiful cherished print yoga leggings.

I hope that you choose to buy only the garments that will bring you joy and serve you well for a very long time and that when you wear our garments that you feel the love woven in to the fabric. I hope our super soft fabrics and hand stitched details remind you of the way all living things are woven together through the air we breath and the water we drink and you consider how you too can be a steward and protector of this place we all call home.

I started OM Collection seven years ago with the goal of creating a sustainable fashion brand, when the concept of sustainability was still relatively foreign.  Originally I intended to make yoga clothes and everyday basics, but sustainable designs are more expensive and it proved difficult to convince our customers to spend extra money for eco-choices that resembled items they could buy at Target.  This lead us to design wild, unique styles that people couldn't find anywhere else.  Without the competition, we could justify the price of sustainability.  As more eco-friendly fabric options develop and as we grow as a brand, we are able to slowly work our way back to the original vision and provide yoga, basic and wild styles for our customers to enjoy that also protect the Earth and its inhabitants. 

Where conversations about our companies eco-standards used to be greeted with glazed eyes or confusion, its now a major determining factor in the choices of consumers. 

My definition of "sustainable fashion" has changed over the last few years.  I now know first hand the implications of every choice made in the life-cycle of a garment, from how dye choices affect water quality in the country of origin, to how fabric choices implicate allergies for both workers and ultimate customers.  Prior to OM Collection I was an environmental lawyer, so issues of green house gases and transporting materials weighs heavily on the choices we make as a brand.  But design is also a key player, for if someone wears a single garment for years, as opposed to a novelty worn only once or twice; and if an item can be washed with a gentle detergent and hung dry....two of the greatest ecological impacts can be majority reduced: production and drying. 

Where conversations about our companies eco-standards used to be greeted with glazed eyes or confusion, its now a major determining factor in the choices of consumers.  I couldn't be more thrilled at this development.  Moving forward you will see more stories about environmentalism and conscious consumerism in our brand message.  The inspiration behind the brand is finally coming out of the shadows to help inspire change and help us build a healthier planet.
