Nissin Red Shock Review - Red Shockを食べてみた

2013-06-07T13:13:00.001+09:00

Nissin's "Red Shock" is A spicy soup with pork pieces and miso and garlic and is the hottest in the cup noodle series!

The noodles are thin and flat and the broth is bright reddish-orange color! It has a little spiciness that will shock you initially but, once you get used to it, it's quite tasty and not over-powerfully spicy. The pork pieces are nice and reconstitute well in the short 3 minutes prep time required. If would highly recommend giving this a try. Just be ready for that initial "SHOCK"!

English Pronunciation aka M.N. Killed it

2013-05-29T18:08:00.001+09:00

Only a small percentage of English speakers can say the following poem aloud with no mistakes. I posted the challenge on my Facebook page and......We have a winner!

First the poem:

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.
Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it’s written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
Exiles, similes, and reviles;
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war and far;
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
Scene, Melpomene, mankind.
Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation’s OK
When you correctly say croquet,
Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.
Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
And enamour rhyme with hammer.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant,
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger,
And then singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge,
Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
Though the differences seem little,
We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
Fe0ffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
Dull, bull, and George ate late.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific.
Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the differences, moreover,
Between mover, cover, clover;
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police and lice;
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label.
Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.
Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
Pronunciation (think of Psyche!)
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won’t it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It’s a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.
Finally, which rhymes with enough,
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give up!!!

Nissin King Cup Noodle BBQ Chicken & Onion review

2013-05-28T16:25:00.001+09:00

Noodles are nice – - nice chew with a slight crumble and flat. The broth has a strong salt and chicken taste. The pieces of chicken hydrated very nicely. Has the texture and taste of fresh chicken – not bad! The veggies are quite good – especially the corn which is nice and sweet. One big tasty cup of noodles!

EU's socket and pocket beats are so unpredictably lovely!

Experience Unlimited (EU) began their music career in high school and helped bring the Go-Go dance groove to life.
Go-Go started to rise throughout the early 1980's with EU's appearance alongside rap grandfather Kurtis Blow on "Party Time", and even the release of a concert movie 'Good To Go'.

EU is one of the original Washington, DC Go-Go bands. Titles like "Da Butt", "Buck Wild", "Taste of Your Love", "Shake Your Thang" (Duet with rap group Salt & Pepa) are just a few of the Mega Hits from EU. After landing a soundtrack in 1988 with the great producer/writer Spike Lee's film "School Daze", EU scored a pop hit with "Da Butt" being the dance sensation. This showed the world who they were!!

EU's style is their energetic, groove-oriented live shows that earned them a large following in the 1980's.

During EU's success, they landed a record deal with Virgin Records that secured EU's place in the industry. They also collaborated with other artists which lead to touring in Japan, Germany, The Caribbean and other places throughout the world.

For your listening pleasure!

Cooking with Taz: Stove Top Salmon

2012-12-09T19:58:00.001+09:00

See the full gallery on Posterous

Here in Japan, because of limited space, grilling or baking isn't always an option. Here's a way to enjoy a delicious salmon dish that requires little time or space:

2 cloves garlic, minced
6 tablespoons vegatable oil
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
3 Salmon Fillet (skin on)
1 bay leaf (optional)

In a medium bowl, prepare marinade by mixing garlic, vegetable oil, basil, salt, pepper, lemon juice and parsley. Place salmon fillets in a medium glass baking dish, and cover with the marinade and bay leaf. Marinate in the refrigerator about 2 hours, turning occasionally.

Place fillets in aluminum foil, cover with marinade, and seal. Cook on medium heat approximately 15 minutes (more or less depending on thickness). Remove from foil and serve. :)

Cooking with Taz: Homemade Hamburger Helper in Japan

2012-12-07T22:26:00.001+09:00

Hamburger Helper?
I know this is bad stuff: MSGs, trans fats, HFCS, white pasta, ETC. There’s not much in the ingredient list that grows in the soil or eats things that grow in the soil. It is not real food. That's why I decided to make my own! All ingredients can be found at your local 100 yen store and it is quick, simple and delicious. Plus, your kids will love it!!!

500g ground beef

400g Macoroni (the type I use is ready in 8 minutes)

1 can diced tomato (450g)

2 cloves garlic (minced)

1 tbsp basil

Magic salt to taste http://foodsciencejapan.blogspot.jp/2012/09/photo-s-magic-salt.html

8 anchovy stuff olives sliced (optional)

1 large Eringi Mushroom (diced) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleurotus_eryngii

5 slices of your favorite cheese (I use a mixed cheese variety)

2 cans of water (use tomato can)

Approx. 20 minutes and serves 5

Season beef with magic salt and garlic, brown and drain. Add tomato, basil, mushrooms, olives and water. Bring to a light boil and add the uncooked macaroni. Lower heat and, while stirring occasionally, cook for 8 minutes or until macaroni is tender. Turn off heat and place your cheese slices on top while the Helper is still hot. Stir in the melted cheese and server with garlic bread.
