Stephen Cave in his ted talk talks about 4 ways we live on
after death. You can see the video below.

Stephen talks about how when people are confronted with the
fact that they are going to die get ready to believe just about anything that
says it is not so. These people would (all of us)once aware of this immortality
then try to make themselves immortal. He goes on to summarize these efforts to
be of 4 types, namely; Elixir, Resurrection, Soul and Legacy. We all believe to
be immortals in one way or the other.

My Idea occurred when I was thinking about legacy. For many
people like me for whom it is very important to create one. But the question
arises what if I fail to do so or what if I during my pursuit of immortality
meet death, not a biological one but one of thoughts.

What if the people whom I want to remember me forget me?

What if the pages of minds where I want to write my story
shut themselves tight?

What if I can’t write my immortal story?

And the most scary

What if I am there to see my efforts fail?

The question is what then?

Do I let myself die
an anonymous death?

The answer is no of course not, I mean that’s what we have
been taught isn’t it? “Never give up”.

Then I think to myself have I done this to someone? Have I
closed the pages of my mind when someone wanted to write on it.

Well maybe I have, Maybe all of us have.

It’s been 6 months since I ceased to be the ordinary college
guy. The journey in the corporate world has been good for me so far thanks to
the great support from my Bosses who have made it very comfortable for me.

6 months into the job though I realize its time I push up my
efforts and upgrade my skills. I know that like Mario you have to break a lot
of bricks to find the magic mushroom that makes you bigger and stronger. In my
effort to attain the magic mushroom I try to work hard but hard-work needs a
plan to succeed so I put up a plan to achieve this growth.

The plan is to become a successful digital marketer; with
the kind of demand across industries it provides me with an excellent
opportunity to develop a career in. I plan to go on a personal learning curve
with digital media marketing and record my adventures into the field. (maybe I’ll
put up a blog for it).

However the learning curve goes one thing is for sure you
have to have a plan and need to work hard to achieve it and be sure to record
it so that if you are successful you can rub it in.( perhaps in the making
write a bestseller)

Ever felt that there is nothing to do, ever felt bored and
felt like nothing is happening. Ever tried to look around and see what is
happening.

This thought occurred to me when I was watching a movie
‘peaceful warrior’. There is something to learn from every moment, let alone
learning it is a great experience just witnessing the world at work. When was
the last time we just sat by and witnessed the world go about its business.
Ever watched the curtains fluttering in the wind. Ever witnessed two people in
conversation; or a group of people watching a cricket match in the canteen.
There is much to learn from everyday happenings and no need for books and other
things.

The sheer joy it gives to know what is going on around you
is very soothing. Why sit around lazily and waste your life. Why not get up and
make the most of now. Do something, experience the other. Live every moment be
thankful to all those have been kind to you, Kind to all others. Make new
friends. Make the most of now.

This
moment is all you have make the most of it. Learn to let go, stop worrying for
what is to come live in today, live free.

The last few days for me have been full of emotions. Some of
the emotions I have never felt before in my life. At a point of time I almost
cried which one of my friend describes as “how men cry”. There have been people
who have been a lot of help and re-kindled my enthusiasm for this new phase of
my life. There have been people with whom I have mend relationships. Some who I
have discovered a new one. There has been an emotional connect that relates me
to all these people.

There have been numerous times when I felt low and sad. When
I called for help (at least my heart, when my ego was too big for my voice to
call out) out came my saviour in the shape of a friend who heard me out and
helped me out of the situation. These are the friends that I am grateful for.
They make a lasting impression on me and want them in my life for a long time.

There was one such emotional journey recently which made me
think a little further than that. As I was recovering from the situation I
thought to myself

Does the person who I feel so strongly of right now feel the
same about me?

Yes, these people now hold a special place in my heart, but
do they feel the same about me?

These questions are one of those which are the most
difficult (almost impossible) to get an answer of. the kind friend may not want
to hurt you and answer saying ‘yes, of course you are’. The answer may well be
an angry smiley on whatsapp. But then life is a puzzle isn’t it. All we can do
is continue to be thankful for that person being in your life and hope one day
when they need help you will be there like they were when you needed them.

P.S.: Thank you my dear friend for being there. I owe you my
happiness Hope one day I could help you like you helped me (or just a fragment
of it).

A question that I have to answer most of the people nowadays
is why I am so silent. The question that is so irritating that I loose my head
over it. And dedicate hours on the trot thinking about the answers which I have
found hard to find even after months of it.

Well this post on the contrary to the belifs of the answer
seekers, does not answer the question.
Read on for knowing what it is..

Let me first define what silence in all its variations means
to me; it could be a period of rigrous thought or a phase of thought vacuum. Silence
could be relaxing sometimes while nerve wrecking sometimes. For me it is
something that means action in the reckoning. The preparation for heavy action.

There are many benefits for being silent. These can be as
simple as controlling anger to as complicated to plotting the rest of your
life. For me it has been both of them and yes much more than could be
articulated. But like the two sides of the coin it can be very bad too. Some of
these could be spoiled relations and loosing out on the social front and
getting into a vicious trap of thinking a lot and not acting.

Like all things silence is to be handled with care and
should be broken when needed.

This post is nothing about what I had thought before. This
post is all about writing what comes first to mind and putting it out on the
paper.

The first thought, when I think of blogging that comes to me
is about my blog the ordinary college guy. Few months from now and I will cease
to be a college guy. What happens to the blog then? A few thoughts that come to
my mind regarding this are:

Should I conclude this blog and it here? (Was this supposed to run for just five
years)

Should I start a new blog to carry on my writing
interests? ( The current blog just has a handful of posts)

Should I contribute to the “e-waste”( the
dormant web pages like mine) by creating one more such page.

All these thoughts and more are what come to my mind. Hope I get back to blog writing. It is
something that I have cherished doing.

I have many friends and much more acquaintances. When going
through their facebook profiles I saw a common thing in most of these profiles.
They said they hated books or in a much general sense disliked them. I for one
am different I like books I love reading and a good book is what I love and
cherish.

One of the questions these friends ask me is why should they
read books. Well here is my answer.

Have you ever read an essay or an news article where a quote
or an situation from a book that you chose not read was mentioned. Well if you
had read that part in the book itself, it would have given you a better
understanding of the topic and yes you could form a slightly different thinking
for the piece of information. This in turn would have given you better understanding
about the topic.

It’s been more than a month that I have started with my
summer intern now and the daily commute in the Bombay local gives me enough
time to think of new and interesting things. Here is one such thing that I feel
like sharing here.

Everyday as we move out our familiar environment of our
homes, we encounter many new people. There are thousands of these new faces
that we see; some happy, some sad; some in a hurry, some in no hurry; some
young and restless, while some old and calm; a good looking girl and a group of
staring boys.

Now and then we talk about life. We talk about how it should
be and what is an ideal life. More often than not the answer is ‘a happy life’.
While we do not know if a person is happy or not we look at the faces and we can
find out that a person is happy or not. A cheerful face is most likely a happy
person. So why not find out how many happy faces we see in the daily mob. This
is what I decided I would do.

My today’s morning commute was in search of these happy
faces in betwixt this hurrying mob. I went out with an opinion that I would
find none but to my surprise I did find out a few in a hundred faces who had to
deal with the ‘overwhelming rush of humanity’ and the scorching may sun of the
indian summer. And yes this brought a smile to my face too.

So I am back from home. Seeing your mother after a long time
is great and so is having stomach-full of her cooked food. (maa ke haathon ka
khana ) But then the vacation ends and you are back. The same is what I have
been doing. Now that I am back in Mumbai time to get back to work and make good
of my time.

The big news today was facebook buying instagram. And pages
of the newspaper have been devoted to analyse the good, the bad and everything
in between. Going through these pages and contemplating on the articles that I
have read recently, a thought passed by my mind. It was the great migrations of
social networks.

First all of us were
on yahoo messenger. Buzz was what we used to do. The chat rooms where we used
to sit hours looking for a good chat mate. ASL please? Was the first question asked.
This was ou first taste of socializing online.

And then as the
internet speeds in the country went up and all of us got computers at home it
was the era of orkut. This was the time when we compared the number of friends
we had and just log in to check who all visited our profile and secretly hoping
it was that special someone. More and more people brought their lives online
and the late evening play in the park was substituted by a visit to the orkut
account.

Then came the cavalry with broadband expanding its bandwidth
on our lives. We had internet acess everywhere and a guy named mark zukerberg
created a platform to cash in on this “facebook” was what he called it. We left
orkut and rushed to facebook . with all its apps and user friendly pages
brought us to the walls of our friends. Like, comment or poke or just stalk
people without them knowing it. And not
to forget twitter the “microblogging” zone with its follow and retweets
captured our imaginations.

Now that facebook and twitter are in, we may have grazed
their pastures and looking to migrate to a new platform. What this will be no
one knows perhaps we have to wait a little more before our friends migrate
first.

Another one of the ideas that I got when I was on the
think-pot( that’s what I call the toilet seat when I am on it thinking).

It’s been 2 days that my exams have started and what I am
supposed to be doing is studying hard. “Keep aside all else and focus just on
studying and getting good marks” that is what the trend dictates all about me
and all my friends seem to be doing it. This is not what I am doing though I have
been taking it easy. It’s not that I have not been studying, have been studying but all that I want
instead of cramming things for exam I have been learning the parts I like and
leaving the rest. The exams strangely have been going well too. This is the
first time in my life that the things have gone right. I have been trying to do
what my heart wishes for some time now and I have got to say though the results
have not been satisfactory I have been feeling happier.

“Free your mind” said morpheus to neo in the movie ’matrix’
and that is what I have been trying to do and yes there is no use in holding
back yourself just do what your heart says and you will be happy, It is hard
ask though but if you succeed in doing it nothing is better than it.

We all have heard the story about how one fine day newton who
was sitting idle under the tree was hit on the head by an apple and he came up
with the ideas which led to the genesis of the laws of motion. It is usually
when our brain is idle that we come up with great ideas. Well most of us would
have had this experience and we would have thought to ourselves “what an idea
sirji”. This is what happened to yours truly.

It was early morning a day before the exam and I was sitting
idly with a book in front when suddenly without having a ‘mentos’ my ‘dimaag ki
batti’ (the Idea bulb) lights up and I get a wonderful business idea out of
nowhere, with the book in hand I spent a good hour that I could study thinking
about how that idea could work. It was only after this I realised that I had
been thinking about it the whole time. Coming back down from that thought cloud
was difficult for me but I reluctantly came back to my book to study for the
exam the next day.

It is usually that when you want to concentrate that your
mind takes a flight and it comes up with unusual things, but then it is the
unusual things that make the life interesting.

P.S. these thoughts are the outcome of personal experience
and are put up to keep things going on the blog.

It’s all about realisation isn’t it? I just had this
realisation when I finally sat down to study. It was after so many days perhaps
since my schooldays that I had sat down with a textbook and was reading it to
learn not for exam but just for the fun of it. Learning can be fun I had forgot
that in the run to get good marks which I could never achieve and in the
process I had lost my love of learning. There had been days when I thought to
myself that I could never be able to do that again. But it was today when I
finally sat to study for my term exams that I reignited that love of learning
in me.

I know it may sound
very awkward to most of the people that how could one love to learn (especially
if it is yours truly), but it all sound very logical to my mind.

This is how it is:

I for one am the person who has been trying hard for so long
to develop an aim in my life, to get something that I want to achieve or for
that reason something I want to become or do in my life. And unfortunately (or
fortunately as I like to think of it) I have not been able to find such a thing
in my life. Though this has done me many goods for I have tried my hands at
various things like going with the first thing that comes to my mind. But on
the hind-side it has been the reason that I have not carried on with things for
long. And so for the aimless wanderers of this aimless world, (people like me)
it is always good to learn for two reasons (i) you never know when you find
your aim and may need all that knowledge. (ii) If you are not going to get that
aim it’s that learning that helps you to survive.

So this is all about this aimless post. Now I must get back to my book because it is
exam time, and no one likes to fail and with aim or not it is good to taste
success.

Hullo everyone it’s been a long time since I posted here. I guess it was back in January. These months have been busy as TOCG had moved from New delhi to Mumbai and took me some time to settle in and get in the groove of writing.

Coming to Mumbai and meeting up with new people and making new friends is an amazing experience, it always is a great and happy experience to meet new people, share experiences, and ultimately make new friends. Though these friends may not meet you ever again in your life but it always is a great experience making friends.

Talking about making friends the first step is getting to know people, and how do we get know people? Yes by striking up a conversation. We all have different ways of starting a conversation; of course actions also play a great part here. ‘Offering biscuits for example along with the mid-journey tea on a train’ is one such way. At least this is what I do during my train journeys and yes I do look forward keenly to these train journeys and it gives me a great sense of happiness when I pack my bag with a packet of hide& seek.

Though exchanging pleasantries is a very important part of the conversation as it bridges that gap of being unknown to each other, the subsequent lines or in some cases actions that follow are also very important because this is where the experiences start building from and to start that part of conversation we use a very common question

“where are you from?”

The question though looks very simple and it is obvious that the person being asked the question would have the answer and would not mind giving it out. But if we look at the question and the feelings that arise right after it’s answered, usually we make a impression about the person on the basis of the region that he/she belongs to though most of us have this feeling for a moment and by the time we come to know the person a little better we give up the so aroused regionalism in our minds and carry on with the conversation. But as we all know that it is these tiny tattered bits of regionalism that come to the fore during the bad times and take over our brains and make us regionalist, communalist, racist and what not.
As we see now the nation united by the spirit of independence and the zeal to weed out corruption by its very roots and have a great country come back to glory, Just decide and make a solemn effort to think before and not after we ask the question “where are you from?”

Hope you like this post

A regular day can be fun if you are TOCG(the ordinary college guy) and this fact was emphasized as the new year turned up to my rescue since I was thinking how I desperately needed something to blog about and out comes from the bag of my regular day goodies these two days.

The day was the next day of which my college exams ended it was the 2nd of January it had been two decades since Dr manmohan singh as the finance minister had driven India out of the nehruvian system and globalised the indian economic system and almost 2 decades since I was brought out in this world to wreck havoc, confuse and infuse the minds of commonfolks with my ever so confusing ideas.
I think you’ll get what I am trying to say when you read the above prose anyways back to describing the day. It was a chilly January morning (we all know dilli ki sardi don’t we? Well if you don’t put the thing right up there in your things to do before you die list for two reasons, first it’s cheap second it needs to be experienced) and I had to get up early and brave the chill for 30 odd kms to take the XAT test so what I did was loaded myself with clothes and stepped out to brave the cold. It was just after a couple of kilometers that I realized that my bravery needs to grow a lot. Any ways I AACHOOOOOOOOed! my way to the exam center and reached with a stuffed up nose and shivering knees and my pains were further amplified by the question paper I hardly knew any of the answers, ‘damn the exam’ I thought to myself but this was only one part of the story , in the second part of the exam we were supposed to write an essay and when the topic came to me I was bamboozled by it for the first time in my life. I couldn’t understand what I was supposed to write and yes all my writing pride was in dirt. After I was flasbanged in the face by my exam I came out of the exam center stupefied.

Yet again this was not all of the the story more was to come once done with the exam I once again loaded myself with clothes to head back to my home. I must have been gone just a few meters when I found out that my bike was wobbling quite vigourously and yes it was a flat tyre and I had to drag my bike(although I rode it) to nearby petrol pump to get it fixed just to find out that the tube was torn due to my riding on the flat tyre and it would cost me rs 250(after bargaining) to get a new one and all that I had on me was rs 50 but thankfully I was carrying my debitcard with me and I asked for a nearby atm and went to it to take out the required amount and another disappointment was ready for me just as the lady who was standing in line before me was done with her transaction the ATM machine said that it was out of service, disappointed, I walked my way back to the puncturewala to say that the atm was not working just the the man who was pumping gas told me that I could swipe my card at the petrol pump and thanks to the petrolpumpwalas I was able to pay for the new tube .and happy that my problem was resolved I came back home thinking that I’ll blog about it.

After CAT

Today I took CAT and yes it was a significant day it had been one and half years of preparatory time in which I had learnt a lot and my life had revolved around CAT and now that I am finally over with it for some time at least. Here’s a short narrative of how the day went.

It all started with my colossal effort to get up on time, being in a habit to be awake until late into the morning it was a great deal getting up on time. And sleeping at 4 in the morning my two morning alarms did play on my side and I was up (although after a few hiccups) at 6 am; I have got to say it feels a bit strange to get up early in the morning and have a look outside the window and see all dark outside (especially if you are in habit of waking up to the bright afternoon sun). Thankful of getting up on time I got my coffee and myself ready. By the time I got ready the morning sky had lit up but the sun was nowhere to be seen it was overcast and the sky seemed to be sweating and showered light drizzle, I got my raincoat on and got out to brave the cold wind on my way to the testing centre I had got only halfway when the state of Indian roads and traffic came to haunt me while stuck in slow movement of traffic I noticed that the wind was blowing quite swiftly from my right side across to the left side and by chance I happened to be besides a puddle of muddy water when a speeding car came to pass me by from the right and as it passed me, my windward side was now to be known as ‘waterward’ side, and just as I was drenched head to toe in the muddy water traffic seemed to clear up and I rode on towards the test center and got to the center just before 8(the time we had to be at the centre.

The security check at the test centre was multilevel and had to go through scrutiny 3 or four times after I had been checked thoroughly I was introduced into the test room which had above 50 computers and I was lead towards my cubicle amidst these systems here I had to wait for another one and half hours before the test would commence without speaking a word and having nothing to do; these ninety minutes I guess are to make the candidate feel worried about the test but that could not make feel worried and I had the ninety minutes all by myself in the cubicle and after I bored myself looking in the welcome screen of my system and counting the number of tube lights in the hall(26in which 2 were not working)I decided to sleep for a while but that was useless and then my mind started to wander .I remembered the first day I started my CAT-10 coaching at tathagat and how kumar sir who happened to take our introductory class dismantled all our beliefs about CAT and how my life in the past was affected by CAT and also how I am going to write all this down in my blog. All these and a number of other thoughts went through my mind before the test finally started. And finally the testing times began, the test went by good and the 2 and ½ hours seemed shorter than the 1 and ½ hours before the test. After my test was over I got out of the test centre and thought I would feel relieved but what I felt was emptiness inside it felt like there is more to it but it wasn’t this was all it was. So I drove back home and end my day’s encounter with the CAT.

Inflation

Yesterday evening while I was riding on my bike back home, I was all wet and cold and my left hand ached from the consistent pulling of clutch(Delhi traffic huh!) and during one of the traffic jams a thought came to my mind and that was high prices and inflation.
‘Inflation’ a word that the common man has started to use in his daily vocabulary in the recent years. I tried to remember what I had learnt about inflation in school and through my blurred remembrance covered by the smoke of laziness I could remember that inflation was a situation in which due to high demand the price of goods and services elevate at an alarming rate; so now why do the prices of daily goods or the things that we buy at our local kiryana shop increase the reason is because the price of the raw materials is increasing, now what are these raw materials they include some primary sector products and labour so the price of raw materials also increases for the same reasons as the end product the increase in the price of inputs now these inputs . and these inputs compromise a high ratio of labour costs and I have never seen the salaries or wages of the labours increase?
On the other side of it at the time of recession the price of goods should come down but it seldom happens like in recent times recession which was by far the worst in my life saw only a few negative changes in terms of price the goods that had increased by rupees 10 at the time of inflation only decreased by rupees 2 and talking about salaries where our spending powers come from; there were high level job cuttings and decrease in salaries.
So where did the money go I am no economist and I may be wrong but this sure makes me think where did the money go?

Well I’ve got nothing to write

I know it’s been several months since I blogged. There are many reasons for this for some time now I have been thinking a lot, doing less and writing even lesser. Yes there were times when I thought of picking up writing again. Once it was when I saw the blog’s stats on Google analytics; another time it was when I came to know that someone liked my posts very much and wanted me to write more. And in between it was just me who felt the need to write up stuff.

And yes I did try to take to writing; once it was when I tried to remember something funny that had happened to me and realized that I was leading a pretty boring life(in terms of funny incidents)other times I was too lazy to write. Once I tried to take to fiction but I couldn’t get beyond the first line and then it was brother who said “I think it’s a burden for you to write, you should stop doing it” and I thought to my self maybe yes he was right, so I stopped thinking about writing and this was two weeks back.

And HOLLA!!!!! Just a few minutes earlier I did not even know that I was going to write this.

P.S: I will try to come up with more interesting stuff soon until then please comment

The Missing Pictures

It is well past midnight today (June 8th, 2010) and I was going through the literary review page of the Sunday edition of The Hindu. I stumbled onto a review for the book ‘venomous touch’ and gathered that the book was very pathetic (at least the reviewer says so and I’ll take her word for Rs 650 is a handy some to spend when you are a student.) The book has three protagonists but the center stage is captured by a photographer. ‘Photographer’ my mind echoed (It always does when I read something that excites me. No wonder my mind is quite switched off when I study.)

Anyways as I was reading my mind took a flight and I started to think of photographs. I remembered that my father who had a passion for photographs took a lot many when I was a child. But by the time I entered my teenage he started living out of station more often to feed the family and the habit of clicking pictures came to a low, and the full stop was when my brother got the camera wet and the beauty became obsolete. At that time no one bothered and a few grumbles at the time of holidays were easily digested and we didn’t buy the camera and years passed by sans photographic memories. It was only after some years that cameras reentered our lives in the form of multimedia mobile phones. But by this time a significant part of our lives had gone by and almost a decade had gone picture less. The only pictures I have are two passport sized photos and a few photographed at school and I was not into many activities so that did not help the cause either.

Some would say ‘so what if you missed a few years.’ but my heart retaliates. It’s not just a few years it’s a prominent part of my existence. How would I tell people the stories of my teenage, they would just look so colorless without pictures.
Now as I leave my teenage behind and embark onto the grinding twenties I do realize that pictures speak a lot more than words. So go on people capture simple moments around you. Who knows when you will start to miss them and mark my words it always to cherish the memories with a picture in hand.

the lost wallet part 2

It had been a year since I lost my wallet and now after a year had passed on I stood in the middle of nowhere with my wallet lost. I searched frantically an soon all the passengers in the bus knew that a boy had lost his wallet but all in vain I had been pick pocketed for the first time in my life. Too much for the firsts I said to myself ‘now what?’ The nearest place where I could go was to my father and it would cost 15 rupees but I had no money “wait a minute” I thought to myself I just shoved some change in my pocket. I put my hands in the pocket and took out the change and started counting; ‘I had been lucky this day too as I had been all my life’, it was fifteen rupees complete. The next thing I did was to call up my father and ask him to stay back for a bit at office as I had some important issue to discuss with him. Well after securing my ticket back to Karnal the next thing that came to my mind was that I needed to block my ATM so I called the customer care and put in a request with them. By this time I was seated in a blue line and after I had made that call I felt a sudden impulse of being carefree I had no worries whatsoever. It had been a while since I had felt this way and was enjoying every moment of it. In some time I was with my father and he asked me what was the topic I wanted to talk to him about I told him that I had forgot my wallet back at my room and had no money on me and as the generous person that my father is he gave me more than I needed and after spending some time with my father I headed towards ISBT to catch a bus home and to add to the series of events that were happening I boarded one of the last buses and it had no seats so I had to spend the rest of the journey standing and as I had no means of passing time I decided to talk to the person standing next to me. He was an middle aged person and we struck up a nice conversation comprising of topics ranging from politics to sports and society to health I felt pretty good as I alighted at the bus stop it was about half an hour past midnight and I got home to find a nice and clean bed waiting for me and that was it for a day in which I had lost my wallet but found a new life in me

the lost wallet part 1

It’s been a while since I updated my blog and the indiblogger stats were getting low and that has enforced me to take up blogging once again. Well I would consider one more reason for this post that is the inspiration for this blog it has been that eventful day FRIDAY 26th of February

Well this started off as any other day it was a bright morning of early springs and I had just begun to spring out of my bed than just lazing out of it. A bright Friday morning it was and I had another one of those internal exams so I slipped on my crumpled clothes and as the mornings still had that chill in them for me to take a bath I rushed to college and was let to take the exam after some persuasion although it is not the exam but the attendance that matters and by the by I wrote all that I wanted in the paper and was done in about an hour. After the exam I was free for the rest of the day and just then a few of my college buddies came up and just dragged me out to the parking lot as being the lazy fellow that I am I was reluctant this time too; but any how I was made to drive all the way to a Go- Carting course “go carting ja rahe hain” was what Karam said. They know me too well and never ask. Anyways after a 15km drive through the dusty roads of Faridabad we reached the place and had a nice time at Go- Carting it was around 2 in the noon when we headed back being the holi weekend ahead I was a bit dejected that I had not got a sufficient holiday window to head back home for the festivities. So I was a bit dejected as I headed back home while on the way Karam who was my pillion rider received a call from Shalini a classmate of ours who told that Saturday is a holiday. ‘Yes that was what I needed’ I thought to myself. The holiday window was now open enough for me to slip through a quick visit to my mother. Overjoyed by the news I sped back through the dusty roads which seemed rather less dusty and the potholes seemed to evaporate in the hot spring sun. I got home and was packing hastily and in the haste I broke out of my annual hydrophobia which lasts the winters and took a cold water bath it was not until then that I realised that the winters were not completely over and water still had that biting chill in it, but it was too late to realise as I was naked and had already poured a mug of water on my body and half my body was chilling under the sting of the cold water while the rest of the body got shrunk and waited it’s prosecution. After all this and the pains that my body had gone through in taking the first cold water bath of the winter I was refreshed and once again stood ready to go, I checked my wallet once again and locked the house and soon I found myself again riding on the dusty roads of Faridabad towards my brother’s house I had to make a rendezvous with him before I left. After a quick meet I left for the bus stop a light bag hanging from my shoulder. I don’t know wither the sun was set or not but it seemed that it too had left early and only a few lazy rays lighted the day it gave a rusty look. I didn’t have to wait much for the bus and it was that dusty yellow DTC bus which I boarded and took out my wallet it had two hundred rupees bills. I took one out and bought the ticket. I received some change and 50 rupees back I put the fifty rupees back in my wallet and shoved the rest of the change in my pocket and went about to find an empty space to set my foot in. it was not till the Delhi border that I got hold of a seat and after the commotion created by alighting passengers was over I went over to check for my wallet and guess what it was not there.

This morning as I was listening to some of the old Punjabi songs from my pirate collection (what I call my collection of pirated MP3s) I was reminded of an incident from my childhood, I must have been in class 4 or 5 when my parents during our summer vacations took us on a tour of gurudwaras around Punjab though it was a very joyful trip for one little problem that the bus which our tour group was traveling was using very old set of tires and we were troubled by flat tires quite often and we had to halt every now and then for the change of tires. It was during one such stops that was at a filling station that the incident occurred. It was a quite noon and the filling station was at a distant place with no sign of any houses nearby there were a few roadside stands nearby it. As the bus halted the driver and his helper got off to get the flat tires repaired and the travelers got off the bus and made themselves busy; the ladies got under the shade of the tree and started to chatter while the men got under the shade of another huge tree and followed the ladies example. some of the men showed their curiosity and went to the shop where the tires were being repaired. The children scattered all around the place and indulged in playing, I however was a shy child and decided to be alone. While I was searching for a medium as to how to pass the time in hand my eyes fell upon one roadside stand where an old lady was sitting over and watching over an earthen oven. i was attracted so much by this that as after sometime I found myself standing at the entrance of that bakery looking curiously over the proceedings as i saw the lady pull out a tray and uncovering it she emptied it's contents into a basket watching me standing for sometime and gazing at the big round cookies that she had just emptied she took one from the basket and offered it to me. I was so temted by the look of that cookie that i decided to ignore the warning given by mother ("Do not take anything from strangers") and at once grasped the cookie and smiled at the old lady.(There's something about these old people that however cranky they maybe they give in when they see a little child) handing me over the cookie the old lady went on with her work. By this time i was captured by the pleasing scent of the cookie and the light warmth that it passed onto my hands, the cookie was twice the size of my little hands and i held it out with both my hands in front of me. By the time I was over admiring the cookie and was about to think of eating it my mother's warning sounded in my head and at once I ran over to the herd of chattering ladies in which my mother was sitting and showed her the cookie, and when she inquired where had I got it from I told her of the old lady and her bakery and asked if she wanted to taste it. my mother smiling took the cookie and divide it into two and gave one half to me while she shared the other with the ladies who had by now put their hungry eyes on my cookie. Delighted to receive half the cookie i ran off with my half of the brown moon and took a bite off the piece, the taste as I can still remember it more than 10 years since was by far of the best cookie I had ever tasted in my life. and by the time I was finished with my cookie I heard the roar of the bus and my father by my side who took me by the hand into the bus as we were ready to go. As soon as I got into the bus we drove off and from the window I could still see the smoke coming out the bakery chimney and remembered the taste of the most delicious cookie I had ever tasted and perhaps will taste in my life.

Inertia

<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" During my stay in Chandigarh me, my uncle and my cousin went for evening walks and during one such walk we were talking about making career choice, when suddenly I asked my little cousin the question which we all must have been asked when we were little kids “What do you want to become when grow old?” I asked the little fellow he looked confused and a little baffled by the question but he replied in his innocence I don’t know you tell. Most of the rest of the walk was spent by me suggesting him what he could do be an policeman like your father, no he said and same was the reply to his many other suggestions I had to offer and when I was running out of options he said something very thoughtful out of his naivety “Do I have to decide it yet” he said. Thinking for while I replied “No you can leave it for now” but his reply remained in head for sometime and that night when alone in my bed instead of thinking of romancing beautiful girls, I was struck by his words.

Do we really need to know or decide what we want to be in our life?
