The Ordinary Life

I would not say that I am too bored, Lord knows that I have so many things that I want to do and 24 hours is barely enough for me. This does not say that everything is so hopelessly hectic. I can take my time and do one thing at a time but my mind moves so fast that I would get bored if I did not get many things done in as short a time as I would like.

I have been testing and experimenting with video sites and this is one result I got:

One thing I need to address though are the website graphics, the headers and what-not.

Nothing is ordinary

There is nothing ordinary about a life. My life might seem ordinary and drab but that only exists in my own mind. I used to think that everything about me was mundane, that my life was boring and humdrum but that has changed tremendously. I am not ordinary at all and my life is far from ordinary. It has taken me a long time to realize that Life is precious and I don't say that in the poetic or literary kind of way but in the most literal sense.

I have lived in Cagayan de Oro for over a year now. I have gone from planting bananas to creating websites and this is what keeps me busy. I could just keep on making websites and it could mean nothing in the long run but I am pretty sure that something great is bound to happen from this effort.

Right now, I am moving, changing, metamorphosing into something radically different from who I was before and this is mostly to be found in my mind. I do not know if my spirit is moving or has been moved to heights but there is definite change and I am sure of this. Cagayan de Oro City rocks!!!

Fish

This is a small hole in the middle of a field where a bunch of fish live. These fish are called tilapia. There was water, lots of it when we started digging the hole. When the hole was done and we were about to put the fish in, the water suddenly stopped. It sure sounded suspicious to me and I am going to find out what happened to the water.

Ordinarily, I would disagree

Ordinary is good and I would choose it for my life most of the time but when it comes to computers and systems, one would look for something quite extraordinary. Take virtualization for instance, I had gone with Virtualbox because it seemed to have many things going for it. I tried it and got it to install Ubuntu which was what I wanted. So I got the desktop going without too much incidence but I ran afoul of something else (PAE) when I tried installing the server flavor of Ubuntu. There were workarounds which involved a different kernel being installed and removing the one Ubuntu-server had, but somehow I did not think I would want to go that route.

If that is the ordinary behavior of Virtualbox, if it were to be useful only if one went around and did something more, tweak it a bit to get it to work then I would not want that kind of ordinary.

Anyway, here's Cagayan de Oro City with another one: Cagayan de Oro City. My Cebu City site has made pr1, surprise, surprise. Dumaguete is still in the boondocks as far as Google goes but Dumaguete has made some headway.

This is the way that i want to be. I had been confused and totally depressed with my life. I think that I am probably the worst person to give life to because I craved for death like a coward. I was a coward and wanted the oblivion that death dealt. Foolish man. Stupid soul.

This is nothing but folly. I was stupid and life gave me a jolt.

Is it really ordinary?

Is it part of the norm to suffer the same fate every day? The fate of being ordinary, of being a grain of sand on a beach, a leaf in a forest of leaves. What is less unappetizing is to never change, to have the same thoughts, feel the same emotions every day of your life. I would not mind feeling content if that is the ordinary way to be but, contentment seems to be a rare thing in this world of constant agitation and pervading helplessness. Being oneself and having one's mind with the same old thoughts, how is one to escape the ordinary misery which ordinary life brings? To have a thought that would raise oneself from the ordinary situation of being ordinary and miserable would be extraordinary indeed.

An Ordinary Website

To live an ordinary life, that is the ideal. That is the way it should be but the universe eschews the ordinary. It must have supernovas and pulsars and black holes, entities that defy imagination. To be a small hydrogen atom is untenable. It will be gathered with the rest of the hydrogen atoms to form vast hydrogen clouds which grow and becoming ever denser until it bursts into a star.

It becomes a brilliant star but one which is merely a speck in a universe of brilliant stars. It is a mere ordinary star if there is such a one. Stars burn and swallow everything close to it and it becomes big and bursts in a million shower of brilliance making way for something else. This is the story of the universe. Brilliance and the spectacular is the order of the universe.

The ordinary life therefore is anathema. It goes against the grain. Is everyone therefore destined to be great and wonderful? Who knows. Ching's World is an ordinary website. Some would even say it is old, passe, decrepit even while young. But if the order of the universe is to be brilliant and spectacular might not Ching's World become brilliant and spectacular at some point in its ordinary life? Ching's World might be destined for greatness.

Getting too ordinary can be an undesirable thing. There is much to be said for anonymity and the comfort and safety it confers to a tiny organism eager to evade the predatory eyes of larger entities but then again, there is also the need to advertise one's presence to others who form part of a symbiotic configuration that allows different organisms to thrive, as in the case of the flower and the butterfly. Advertising can take many forms and in the online world, one always wants the to engage the attention of cyber denizens and keep them for a long time. Directories help perform this function and they may be specialized or generic.

Being ordinary is not so bad

The ordinary life is really not so bad. The glare of spotlights can blind one to the reality of life; it can cause one to think that the stage is the only reality worth living. It can also lead one to false relationships or relationships that are based solely on whether it is advantageous to cultivate the relationship instead of being based on a genuine liking for a person. One can lose oneself as a real person and begin to cultivate a persona instead of a real person.

There are always people who desire the spotlight, to be idolized by many, to be recognized. Even a small town can have its town hero and its town beauty. These are a kind of royalty and many people defer to them and be on their good side. In schools, this is even more pronounced. The "A" class are the most popular and command a kind of awe and respect from ordinary students. I suppose this is the way the universe is made. There are brilliant stars and there are mere rocks travelling lonely and unnoticed in space. But then again, even brilliant stars can die out and fade. Some even become black holes that suck everything in that not even light can escape.

Starts and idols fade and age and lose their luster. That would be a big blow to their ego, I would think and the transition from bright star to being a has-been would be hard to take. The ordinary life is really not so bad. It is comfortable. It is less hectic. It is easier to manage than the extra-ordinary life.

Celebrity makes one a target

There is a remarkable allure associated with fame and celebrity. Many chase after that and even fifteen minutes of fame lasts a lifetime and gets better and better with every retelling. I can understand the seductive lure of the cameras and the lights can be quite intoxicating but, I like anonymity better. What better way to walk the streets than if one is unknown? No one targets you for anything. There is real danger in being a celebrity, a famous person, somebody notable. The creeps and the wierdos come and want to touch you and talk to you and be seen with you. The great artist/musician John Lennon succumbed to the deranged imaginings of John Hinckley who put a bullet that ended not only his life but his brilliant career as a musician. The same thing happened to Princess Diana of Wales who was hounded to her death by camera-wielding paparazzi who eventually caused her accident in Paris, France.

How anyone could live without the freedom of being able to move about without an entourage and bodyguards, go to the park for long walks, enjoy a beer or two at a local pub is simply incredible to me.Does an ant have thoughts of fame and celebrity? Does living a simple, anonymous life, just doing the same thing over and over again cause a bee to have anxious nights dreaming of becoming a Queen Bee? An ant colony is perfectly coordinated with a rigid hierarchy and it has adopted this model for millions of years very successfully. An ant lives a simple life, anonymous and un-celebrated. She is not famous, she has no one chasing after her and yet she lives a full life dedicated to the survival and propagation of her colony.

Maybe it is our individuality which is responsible for this need to be famous, to be a celebrity, to be chased by photographers and autograph-hunters. As individuals we want to stand out. We modify our faces and bodies to conform to a standard of beauty and grace, we take performance-enhancing drugs to become better athletes. In the end celebrity does fade and no one remembers. No one remembers the child stars who were adored as precocious children but lost that allure upon growing up. It is a big blow to their egos as well as their pocketbooks when no one wants to pay to see them perform. All in all, I still choose the simple life, anonymous, free, unfettered, unrestricted and plain.

Excitement exhausts me

There are many people who are addicted to adrenalin rush and they go to great lengths to get their fix; the longer the drop, the greater the high, the bigger the risk the greater the rush. Some get their rush just be being bitchy or getting into fights or arguments. I never was that kind of person. I preferred to be anonymous, not to draw attention to myself .In fact you could say I have an extreme form of shyness where I would dread having to speak up during class or to shout, stop! when riding a bus. Being in a crowd gives me a sense of security as long as people just go about their business and don't mind me at all.

Sipping my morning coffee in peace and watching the distant clouds form and break and listening to the traffic outside is very soothing exercise indeed. Could you perhaps call it meditation? or just daydreaming? Watching the birds as they flit and fly from branch to branch and from tree to tree all the time chirping as though chattering in a conversation that doesn't stay still but moves from topic to topic without let-up, gives me a peaceful feeling as though nothing in the world needs to be fixed.

Do I need more...

Think about it, I have only one mouth. There is only so much food I can stuff into it without running the risk of gluttony, becoming obese, having unwanted cholesterol or any of a number of eating-related problems. I am not much of a drinker of alcoholic beverages although I used to drink like a fish as they say. I have learned to not to be dependent on saints i.e San Migiel, Ginebra San Miguel to be the life of the party or to become superman and charm the ladies with silver-tongued slickness courtesy of alcohol inhibiting the super-ego. Spare me the big hangovers.

To travel would be nice but it doesn't have to be on a luxury liner or a guided tour. I prefer taking the solo road to new places, seeing people as they are and getting to my destination the way most ordinary people do: by public transportation.

I do not need many women in my life. If one finds someone to love and be loved back that can be a million times more satisfying than to hop into bed every night with a different girl and feel empty inside and wondering what could be wrong.------------------------

Six billion people in the planet and exploding. There is a mad scramble to have one's face seen and recognized, to have one's voice be heard above the din of countless minds. Wealth is scarce and the ones who have it want to keep it for themselves and their progeny. One may be poor in material possessions and consider oneself unfortunate. Is there a need to to have more or to stand out? To be a shoulder above the rest? To be a shining example for everyone to emulate? To be sure, there are perks and benefits to being a standout, being popular and an achiever.

One has doors opened, or an exquisite basket of flowers delivered to one's doorstep if one is a beautiful woman. Everyone wants to be your friend or to be close to you and bask in your reflected glory if you are a good athlete, a good singer or a dazzling artist with the guitar. If you have money to throw around friends are not hard to find. What is it about the sun that makes small planets go around it? Is it its brilliance? Its massive size? Come too close and it swallows and incinerates you. Do the planets have an innate knowledge of the benefits to be derived from being close to the sun but not too close? There must be a correlation that can be drawn from this and daily life with people. We talk of gravitating towards something or someone. Is it the same gravitational principle acting in people and things that also governs the attraction and repulsion of the sun and its planets? Does Saturn gain much from its rings to make it different from the rest?

The Pleasures of being Ordinary

I have no wish to be famous, to have an exciting life. I do not care to have tons and tons of money, to have beautiful and sexy, desirable women hanging on to me. I do not want an expensive car, not a BMW, a Honda or Toyota or Nissan or a Bentley or a Porsche. I would much prefer to take a bus or to walk if the distance is not too great. I do not want to be a powerful CEO like Donald Trump or be a savvy politician like a Governor or a Senator. I want to have a quiet life where I can breathe fresh air and take long walks by myself without haste. I do not like working in an office. I would much rather work at home preferrably at my computer giving free rein to my thoughts and perhaps going online for some inter-personal communication with someone I do not see face to face; if I could make my living from the Internet that would be the perfect way to earn money.

I do not want my name in lights, to have flashbulbs popping in my face and to be chased by the paparazzi and hide my face behind sunglasses or to wear a hat or a disguise. I do not want my face in Time Magazine or on a Billboard or to be interviewed live by Larry King. I do not want to argue or to trade barbs with Bill O'Reilly. He is too smart for me and has truckloads of things to say about anything and everything. I just want to be able to read a book or a magazine or to surf the Web or to hum a tune as I walk: to live my life as simply as I can.

I do not care for fancy food in fancy restaurants. I do not care for new-age health foods. I just want simple food the way it is prepared at home, hot and with lots of spice. A sandwich is fine with me or even just a banana or any fruit or maybe just oat meal.
