One of the most essential things you can do for your freshwater fish tank is to take care of it and keep it thoroughly clean. Needless to say, with our hectic day-to-day lives, what we need to know is exactly what is most crucial in keeping up with our freshwater fish tanks and how we can do it quickly.

Below is a list of the five most significant things you will need to do in order to keep your aquarium in good condition, according to the experts. These quick clean ups are not that difficult, particularly if you do them at the same time each month. If you cannot in any way do these basic things, then owning a fish tank may not be for you.

Task: Test Water
When: Monthly
Whenever your aquarium is initially established, make sure to test the pH of the tank water every couple of days. Get an examination kit from your local pet store. Following that, check the water every week for the first couple of months.

Following those two months, you can examine the water once a month, unless of course your fish are displaying irregular behavior. You can find out what the correct ph balance should be for your aquarium from your local fish shop.

Task: Change Water
When: Weekly
Swap out your fish tank water once a week if you can, however you may also do it every other week if you have to. You will just need to change about twenty percent of your tank's water. The easiest way to do this is to remove the water with a pipe.

Find a hose or fish tank tubing, place one end of the pipe into your fish tank, and then suck on the opposite end of the hose, with the hose lower than the water level of the fish tank. Make sure to have a suitable container prepared, since the water will come flowing out. Allow the water from the tank to flow into the container until about twenty percent of the water is taken out of your aquarium. Then add new water.

Task: Change Filter
When: Depends on Filter Model, Check Instructions
There are numerous fish tank filter systems available today. Therefore, the only guidance here is to take a look the guidelines and they will tell you when to switch your filter. Occasionally it can be every three or four weeks for non reusable filters. At times, it is every six months before they need to be replaced. There are types that you can clean yourself, so simply keep close track of them and thoroughly clean them as per the instructions that come with the filter.

Task: Vacuum
When: Weekly
Make use of a gravel vacuum machine to draw out the waste materials, harmful toxins and outdated food items in the bottom of your fish tank. Aquarium vacuums are generally great for removing waste substances and are available in all kinds, shapes and sizes based on the capacity of your fish tank. All of them work just a little bit differently, so be sure to check the directions that are included with them. All of them are quite simple to work with.

Task: Remove Algae
When: Monthly or as needed
Nothing appears more severe than algae creeping up the edges of your aquarium. On that subject, almost nothing looks better than a clear and clean fish tank that you can easily see through.

You can buy algae scraping tools as well as various other tools to get rid of the algae from the aquarium. They are generally simple to use. Simply pick one that you like and use it frequently.
An all-natural solution can also be purchased to get rid of algae.

Look for one that offers both aerobic and anaerobic beneficial microorganisms as it is the best type of product for the job.

As a way to stay away from that, you need to first teach yourself about the basics of salt water fish care.

Saltwater Aquarium - Basic Installation
For lighting purposes, a fluorescent bulb is necessary. It is the closest thing to genuine sunshine. Corals require lighting, and so do fish needless to say, having said that, if you have only fish, you may be able to skip the lighting fixtures depending on the species you have. A heater may be necessary as the majority of tropical fish demand high temperatures.

With regards to the area you reside in, you may want to consider a heating unit.
Those two factors are the basic equipment needed to start out with. As you may see, it really is relatively simple, and the three basic elements, like the fish tank, will cost less than two hundred dollar, which is pretty inexpensive for such a hobby.

Furthermore, it is far from difficult and any individual can learn how to handle it.
Oceanic aquariums can offer a brilliant sight in any residence or company. There are numerous approaches that you could attempt in order to obtain the appropriate tank for your home or company. Setup and installation does not require a long period of your time.
If you choose to hire professionals however, you'll most likely be pleased with the end result.

In case you have any concerns regarding how to maintain your fish tank, be sure to ask the experts before they leave. They are often a great source of information as they are usually very familiar with the proper care of the fish you have decided on.
It is possible to seek the services of the installation company to do future management and upkeep of your fish. This may be one particular thing that you don't have enough time to do and you could quickly plan a cleaning to keep your aquarium in good condition.

Saltwater Aquarium - Basic Maintenance
Aquarium upkeep is essential in maintaining the health of your fish. Providing a proper setting for the fish to thrive in is critical. Fish require proper care on a daily schedule exactly like dogs and cats do.
The very first phase in appropriate aquarium servicing is always keeping the water thoroughly clean. Obtaining an appropriate water purification system is essential for you to keep the water clear. Switching out the water on a regular basis is also crucial.

The regularity of this is determined by numerous factors including the type of filtration system in use, the dimensions of the aquarium tank, and amount of fish in the fish tank. Several fish keepers wrongly change out all the water in the tank, which is absolutely not healthy for the fish. No more than fifteen percent of the water should be changed out at any given time.

Why?
Well, the remaining water contains important bacteria which are beneficial for the fish and important to their survival. Eliminating algae from the fish tank is another significant task that must be completed consistently.

Aquariums that acquire sunlight directly for longer than several hours will have a much faster accumulation of algae as compared to fish tanks that do not receive direct light from the sun. It is advisable for tanks to be kept away from direct sunlight if at all possible.

In order to do away with algae completely, a probiotic algaecide abundant with beneficial microorganisms would be a solution to look into purchasing as it benefits the health of your fish as well.

Fish tanks can be quite a fantastic addition to your office or home. They give a distinctive ornamental touch while providing pleasure in viewing the work of art you have created. Furthermore, aquariums can provide a calm and soothing feel to any area. After you have made the decision to invest in having a fish tank in your house, the next thing you need to determine is exactly what kind of aquarium you will have.

There are primarily two types of aquariums for you to select from: freshwater or saltwater. Each type of tank has its own special advantages, specifications, and problems. It is very important to check them out full before you finally make your decision and buy one.

The Differences

Fish Species
Among the most unique distinctions between freshwater and saltwater tanks is the varieties of fish. Freshwater fish are usually present in streams, ponds, rivers and lakes while saltwater fish are located in seas and oceans. Generally, freshwater fish are aquarium-raised while saltwater fish are from the wild.

Saltwater fish tend to be more attractive in color and are for sale in a greater variety than freshwater fish, yet can be more delicate to alterations in water temperature and chemical balance. Be sure you do extra research or consult with your local fish store in order to find out which fish will do well together.

Equipment
When choosing your aquarium, take into account the location in your home that you wish to put the fish tank. Nearly every size tank will work well as a freshwater or saltwater aquarium; having said that a bigger fish tank is going to be simpler to keep chemically well balanced and will present numerous choices when choosing fish and add-ons. Most aquarium devices are made to work in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

Lighting is important in any type of fish tank to sustain the healthiness of the fish. Lighting specifications vary according to the kind of tank along with the fish and plants that live in it. Maintaining a consistent temperature and having an acceptable filtration system is necessary in any aquarium ecosystem.

Lastly, you should have a water testing kit. This will assist you in keeping track of the levels of your water and make changes as required to keep up an adequately well-balanced atmosphere.

Upkeep
General maintenance does not vary a great deal between a freshwater and saltwater aquarium. With either choice, you will have to make sure that all devices are running correctly and replacing filter systems and cartridges as required. The container may also have to be cleaned out regularly.

Cleaning the fish tank will generally require you to replace between ten and twenty percent of the water quantity every other week. The water taken out throughout the course of vacuum-cleaning the gravel is generally enough.

Remember that the new water added will have to be treated based on the type of fish tank you are maintaining before being put into the aquarium. Washing the tank walls and examining the water for correct chemistry levels are also important parts of fish tank upkeep.

It would be a good idea to have an algae scraper on hand or perhaps an all-natural solution with beneficial microorganisms to get rid of the algae without harming the fish.

Making Your Choice
Deciding between a freshwater or saltwater fish tank can be quite the complicated thing, even so it is not a choice that you need to make in a rush.
Sustaining a fish tank is a commitment and you must be ready for the upkeep and expense of offering the best setting for your fish.

With the proper attention, aquariums can be quite a wonderful inclusion to your house that you can take pleasure in for a long time.
Putting together a freshwater aquarium does not need to become a headache. You just have to acquire the proper materials and follow a few basic steps and in a short time you will have a fantastic looking aquarium that is appropriate for your fish.

There are a few things you should be aware of with a freshwater aquarium arrangement however; there are some responsibilities involved. To begin with, there is the price factor. You will have the one time expense of putting it together, and after that you will be purchasing various maintenance products as well as fish food.

You will also have to care for it regularly; at the very least, feeding the fish, and then just about every couple weeks or on a monthly basis you will be doing some sort of maintenance. It really is just like owning any other pet, the more affection you give them, the more gratifying it will be.

Below are some suggestions for setting up your freshwater aquarium:

The dimensions of tank which you select will be based on the amount and size of fish that you would like to maintain. You cannot have fish that are congested, or a tank which is too large. The easiest method would be to begin with a ten gallon aquarium and then stock it with little fish which do not grow too big. As you become a little more knowledgeable, you may test out various other types of fish along with a larger aquarium.

Search for a spot to keep the fish tank that is secure and protected. It should be out of the reach of children and other pets that may disturb it. If it is too close to a window that allows direct sunlight, this may boost the temperature of the water. An excessive amount of direct sunlight ensures that you will have to do more algae control.

Evaluate the equipment needed. Filtration systems are diverse and are all priced differently. A few fish also generate far more waste as compared to others and they're going to require unique types of filtration systems. When thinking about a heater, make sure you take the size of your tank into consideration. In addition, you will also need to give some thought to substrate, vegetation, along with any other accessories you will be placing into the aquarium.

Rinse the fish tank with warm water and rinse each of the parts which will go in there at the same time. Avoid using soap as this is not considered to be good for your fish. Install your filter as soon as your parts and aquarium are thoroughly clean.

Rinse the gravel in clean water along with the other accessory you have for your freshwater aquarium. The substrate must be flushed extensively and you can do this using an appropriate strainer.

After you have all of this setup, now you can put in the water. Water needs to be at room temperature and de-chlorinated.

Put in the heating unit and wait for about fifteen minutes for the temperature setting in the heating unit to adjust to the water temperature.

Now you wait. You must allow the tank to undergo a complete nitrogen cycle before adding fish. You will recognize when ready whenever you observe the water is becoming cloudy; usually after a couple of days.

Finally, put in your fish. You need to let the fish gradually adjust to the change before you put them in. Follow the instructions from the fish shop on how to go about doing this.

To keep your aquarium clean, you'll want to use an organic probiotic solution that completely gets rid of the main cause of bacteria. The probiotics in such a solution will also greatly enhance the life of your plants and fish. Chemicals are not recommended.
If you are among the many individuals looking for tips on how to clean up a cloudy fish pond or aquarium and have carried out just about everything the professionals say to do, yet you've still got cloudy water, then the advice below should be of help.

There are various factors as to why a pond will end up green or cloudy. Weather conditions tend to be the leading culprit. Various temperature ranges, rainwater, and an excessive amount of sunlight will play a role in a cloudy pond.

Furthermore, insufficient purification and over-feeding will result in difficulties, along with inadequate chemical compounds. Listed here are a few of the real solutions when it comes to preserving a fish pond or aquarium.

Filtration Systems: Are They All the Same?

Submersible filtration systems are challenging to upkeep since you need to climb into the waters in order to execute proper servicing of them plus they usually elevate the temperature of the water.

Sand filters are generally difficult to thoroughly clean and don't capture all of the particles within the sand, enabling a few to re-enter the pond or aquarium. Furthermore the sand filter needs to be functioning twenty-four hours each day for ideal purification and should be back washed on a regular basis.

The bio-filter is nearly the same as the sand filtration system only that it can be even tougher to completely clean.

Cartridge filters are likely to be the most effective filters to make use of. They filter out basically all of the wastes, are incredibly simple to wash, and keep working for an extended period of time. You may use cartridge filters in fish aquariums as well.

Which Chemical Solution Should I Purchase?
Algaecide is highly suggested to get rid of algae and clearing up any cloudy or green pond. On the other hand, algaecide is toxic not just to your fish, but to the surrounding environment as well. Algaecide consists of copper sulfate which can build up in the internal organs of fish and other creatures.

A few cities have prohibited copper sulfate since it seriously will contaminate bays and lake and can be considered unsuitable for aquatic environments. There is, however, an organic algaecide that exists filled with beneficial microorganisms which will benefit the overall wellness of the pond. A probiotic solution is one of the best choices you can make.

Oxygen Generating Plants May Be a Good Idea
Any underwater plant species that thrives beneath the surface of the pond, or even if part of a plant is submerged underneath the pond water, is considered to be an oxygen generating plant. These underwater plants typically have thin roots designed only for anchorage to prevent movement from any currents or wind.
The nutrition and gaseous transaction occur on the exterior of the plant directly to each individual cell. With these plants in the water, you can be sure that any cloudiness will start to vanish due to an increase of oxygen in the water.

Install a UV Clarifier
One of the most effective methods for managing pond cloudiness and algae is to install a UV clarifier. The potency of the UV illumination, which is produced at a particular wavelength, is a miracle for pond keepers. UV light is a natural occurrence and is the main trigger of sun burnt skin when we are in the sun for an extended period of time.

The ultra violet light rays eradicates the cloudiness by getting rid of the cell walls of the algae, bringing about the system known as flocculation, which is essentially the process in which bacteria heaps together into large clumps. This bulky piece of bacteria is now far too big to simply go through any filtration systems without notice, so the next time it runs through a filter it will be removed for good.
---
Control and Eliminate Algae with UV Sterilizer

By Clifford Woods

If you have been putting up with algae, then it is likely that you do not own a UV sterilizer for your pond. Without a doubt, UV light is crucial for all ponds where metabolic action occurs.
Pond algae are brought on by microscopic algae cells that feed on aerobic bacteria in the water. They are especially common during the summer seasons while there is a great deal of sunshine.
A little quantity of green pond algae is helpful to marine pond life like Koi and other fish as they use it as a food supply as well as camouflage from predatory birds.

Algae additionally act as cover from the sun on hot summer time days.
The fact is that pond algae multiplies at an extraordinary pace and if left without treatment it will ultimately wreck the look of your pond and can begin to hinder the pond pH balance as well as the amounts of oxygen within the pond.
The simplest way to manage pond algae is by using a UV sterilizer, also referred to as a UV clarifier, UV illumination or simply just a UV.

A number of people would rather use pond algaecide products which are only safe if it is completely organic and contains beneficial microorganisms.

The Struggle with Temperature
The strength of blue ultraviolet light which is created at a specific wavelength is a wonder for pond owners. UV light comes about by natural means in nature and is a primary reason we get sunburned when we are out in the sun. The performance of a UV sterilizer is affected by temperatures to a large extent. If the unit is positioned under the pond's surface then it will work at no matter what the water temperature happens to be.

The way in which companies bypass the drop in effectiveness is to use a quartz sleeve, which will protect the lamp from cold water temperature ranges, guaranteeing optimum effectiveness is taken care of. Ultraviolet light transfers effortlessly through quartz, but not glass. This is why quartz sleeves are utilized rather than glass in the production of UV sterilizers.

Be mindful that not every producer makes use of a quartz sleeve; a few use plastic covers. Glance at the production standards and if it does not have a quartz sleeve, investigate another product.

The UV Sterilizer System
Pond water is streamed by way of a quartz tube, blocking chilly pond water from coming directly into contact with the ultraviolet source of light. Keep in mind that UV performance is affected by temperatures and functions suitably at one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. As the water moves through the sleeve, it is hit by UV rays, either directly or reflectively.

The ultra violet illumination eliminates the algae by wiping out the cell walls, leading to what is known as flocculation to occur. This mass that is too large to pass through the mechanized purification systems employed by your pond filter and is caught and taken from the pond water.

Organic filtration systems are made up of pond plants which are intentionally deprived of nutrition. The marine plants obtain their food supply from the nitrates within the pond water. They contend with algae for the nourishment and for that reason help in keeping the pond algae in check. They don't ensure algae-free garden ponds though.

The only real assured strategy for managing green pond algae is by using a UV sterilizer or a probiotic algaecide solution plentiful of beneficial microorganisms. Such an option will completely eradicate the algae from your garden pond as well as boost the overall health of the vegetation and fish within your pond.
Pond Magician is made up of an incredible number of beneficial microorganisms that maneuver through your pond and consume the microbes and contaminants which make your pond unpleasant as well as foul-smelling.

Unlike similar pond cleaners which exclusively deal with natural materials, Pond Magician is made up of both aerobic and anaerobic beneficial microorganisms, therefore making it easily adaptable to a large selection of pond water situations.

What are Beneficial Microorganisms?
Beneficial microorganisms are composed of an incredible number of friendly microorganisms. Generally, they simply eat up the algae and unwanted organisms. These microbes are advantageous to the water, plants, and fish life that thrive within your pond and they can be extremely eager for the impurities and organisms which make your pond unclean.

A few of the beneficial microorganisms can flourish even within environments where there is little if any breathable oxygen available. For this reason, beneficial microorganisms are quite effective regardless of the situation. Apart from being less expensive when compared with other deodorizing remedies, the application process is quite easy.

How to Use Pond Magician and Determine the Quantity Needed
Pond Magician is incredibly user-friendly. Simply pour it into your pond directly from the container. Put just a little at a handful of locations around the border of the pond or even dump it into the flow or waterfall for those who have one. The concept is to get the solution equally distributed within the pond. You may also apply it on top of the pond's surface area with a backyard sprayer. This can help in the case that you have a large amount of surface algae.

Before you apply it, first you have to determine the amount of gallons in your pond by employing this basic formula:

Multiply the average length in feet of the pond by the average width in feet.

Then multiply that answer by the average depth in feet.

Then multiply that answer by 7.48.

This answer is the approximate number of gallons in your pond.

After that, making use of the guidelines below will determine the quantity of Pond Magician you will need for two applications.
0-1,000 Gallons = 1 Quart
1000-5000 Gallons = 1 Gallon
5,000 - 12,500 Gallons = 2.5 Gallons
12,500 Gallons or More = Please give us a call for precise instructions at (818) 897-4444
The Benefits of Pond Magician
As these beneficial microorganisms carry out their job, your pond will receive the subsequent advantages:

The pond is going to have an extremely enjoyable, refreshing aroma.

The pond water is going to be as healthy and crystal clear as water coming down a flowing mountain stream.

The plants and fish will be extremely pleased and live longer.

Over dosage Precautions
Essentially, there is absolutely no chance of overdose due to the fact Pond Magician is made up of beneficial microorganisms. On the other hand, using more than needed will become significantly less cost-effective to the customer. In contrast to chemical products, where there exists a devastating consequence when overdosing occurs, organic bio-solutions only will stop functioning whenever there isn't enough excessive nourishment within the pond.

The main issue linked to overdosing beneficial microorganisms, besides cost, is the fact that when there is a great deal of natural and organic accumulation when you overdose, it is possible to induce an excessive amount of activity and need for oxygen. Basically, an over dosage of microorganisms would use up the oxygen in the water that sustains the fish.

Throughout the spring, your Koi fish pond will become more active. For most of their time during their deep winter sleep, the existing creatures in your pond are preparing to spring alive at the very first indications of the warm weather. This point is the most ideal time to care for your fish pond and preserve it well before your fish, vegetation, and other organisms in your pond return to life from their deep hibernation. Considerable changes will be taking place as the days and nights become warmer.

Simply keep track of temperatures and when it reaches about fifty degrees on average this will be about the most ideal time to take care of your Koi pond.

The upkeep necessary for your fish pond is dependent upon just what has occurred throughout the winter months. A harsh winter calls for even more modifications than normal. This is one of the reasons that it is a smart idea to start once caring for your pond as soon as you notice alterations in the climate.

Always remember that servicing in the springtime must be carried out on an annual basis, regardless of how minor or severe the prior winter season has been. Pay attention to the water quality of your Koi pond. You will observe that the pond's water is extremely clear when the conditions change from winter to spring.

Do not let this clear appearance deceive you, because there are going to be variables which will result in serious complications once summer comes along if you do not solve these problems at the earliest opportunity.

Throughout the autumn and winter months, leaves along with other plant substances could possibly have found its way into the fish pond. Despite the fact that the water appears clear, these components have inserted considerable amounts of nourishment in the water, which will lead to immediate algae development once the spring hits.

In addition, large quantities of natural materials in the pond will begin to go through decomposition, which will reduce the oxygen levels in the water. Now, because the water in your pond is extremely clear, this will be the ideal chance to clear all those undesirable debris and wastes.

You can accomplish this by:

Employing a fine mesh net to scoop out most of those particles. At this point, the only real issue here is that many nets are only going to cause more debris in your pond as opposed to eliminating them from it.

Once you have taken out those unnecessary particles and wastes, test out the quality of your water. The winter months would have caused changes in the pH quantities of the fish pond. At the start of the spring season, the pH volume of the water should be eight.

Above all else, always remember to take care of and look after your fish. Take into account that spring is an extremely vulnerable time for your fish since they have not ingested any food for ages and they've been dwelling on a fairly low amount of energy. This could cause your fish to be far more susceptible to problems with harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.

At this point in time, it is an excellent idea to take every one of the essential precautionary actions for your Koi and the overall health of the pond.

Manage your Koi pond with the addition of a probiotic algaecide solution filled with beneficial microorganisms which will substantially reduce those dangerous infestations and debris.
As soon as the weather warms up, an additional amount of this kind of treatment solution will secure the well-being of your Koi as they rebuild their own defense systems.
By Clifford Woods

If you have or take care of a fish tank, you likely are aware of the pleasures of building an underwater environment and observing as well as enjoying the fish, plants, and overall ecosystem within the aquarium.

One of the most important aspects of owning an aquarium is keeping it clean, which you can easily do with an all-natural solution with beneficial microorganisms. Another important part of a good fish tank environment is appropriate lighting to both improve the mood created and to provide a vibrant atmosphere for the fish and vegetation in the tank.

There are a variety of methods to present good lighting effects for fish tanks.
Below are a few of these possibilities and the benefits that come with them.

As mentioned previously, appropriate lighting is vital in assisting with the improvement and protection of the aquarium's setting. The right color and wavelength have an important role in maintaining the health of marine life.

For several years, aquarium enthusiasts counted on different varieties of light settings. The first variations made use of incandescent light bulbs; however this failed to provide suitable benefits because of the type of lights used along with the colors and wavelengths they put out. The bulbs additionally were hot which influenced the temperature of the water in the fish tank.

A vital advancement in lightning techniques occurred with the creation of florescent lighting. This type of light works at a significantly cooler temperature and can be tweaked to produce various wavelengths and colors of light. It has been the standard for the majority of fish tanks and it has undoubtedly provided tolerable and satisfying benefits.

Nonetheless, latest improvements in LED (a type of light called light emitting diode); lighting technologies have created an entire new category in tank lighting. LED lighting has numerous advantages. To begin with, the lights last for a long time. With regular use, they should not require changing for a long time.

An additional major advantage of LED lighting is their particular performing temperature ranges. LED lighting will not increase the water temperature. This will make it simpler to manage the correct water temperature inside your fish tank.

Although you may make use of a modern LED tank lighting bulb in addition to fluorescent lights, the products generally have a heat sensor and fan to lower any additional heat.

LED lights are additionally quite effective at changing electrical power into light. This reduces running costs and improves maintenance since the lights last considerably longer. Do not concern yourself with changing bulbs or additional typical expenditures. It also allows you the luxury of not having to change out expensive ballasts that would have been required for various other forms of lighting such as fluorescent. The lessened upkeep features are very appealing for LED lighting devices.

A few tips to be aware of when selecting LED tank lights.

Try to find devices that have dinning capability. Instead of needing to manage how much time the lights need to be on, it is significantly better to have the ability to change the strength of the light.

Look for models that are CE authorized. This electrical power standard is a lot stricter than UL authorization which is your guarantee that this LED lighting product is made to the highest level of quality, longevity, and protection.

LED tank lights are available in a variety of models and settings. There is certainly a unit out there that is well suited for your particular tank. So make sure you provide optimum lighting for your fish tank by means of these kinds of devices. Your local fish shop can usually help with any questions.
By Clifford Woods

Fish pond algae are really a general name which represents all of the various types of algae, normally present in ponds. A few varieties of algae can actually be beneficial to the overall health of the pond while others types can be viewed as a real annoyance.

You will need to prevent as many algae blooms as you can in order to keep your fish and visual appealing pond vegetation alive.

The most prevalent type is the floating green algae, like chlorella, euglena, and chlamydomonas varieties. They grow and reproduce quickly through cell division or spores.

Filamentous algae, also known as string algae, appear to be lengthy green noodles and have a hair-like visual aspect to them. The looks are a result of a combination of cells joined up end to end. Horse hair algae and blanket weed types like spirogyra, oedogonium, and cladophora are quite prevalent.

The Factors That Lead to Pond Algae Growth:
The main three variables that enables pond algae to produce consists of: hot temperatures, vitamin abundant pond water, and crystal clear pond water that permits sunshine to pass through. A rise in temperatures speeds up both blanket weed and suspended green algae advancement.

How Various Algae Varieties Affect the Overall Health of the Fish Pond:
Floating plank-tonic algae distribute at a speedy pace and can only be managed by ultraviolet illumination from a UV sterilizer. The UV spectrum splits the cell surfaces, resulting in the algae to collect together which in turn allows filters to easily remove the algae from the pond. A substantial amount of floating green algae can produce what is known as algae blooms. They could be devastating to pond fish as the blooms will at some point deprive the pond of oxygen thus killing off all underwater plants and fish life.

Why Too Much Algae is Harmful for Garden Ponds:
Algae does not just make the pond seem unpleasant and overgrown, but in more severe situations, can actually cause the pond to smell foul. The rotting process of algae eats up oxygen from the pond water. This is especially harmful to the oxidizing bacteria and pond fish population, which both need oxygen to thrive.

Keep in mind that ammonia must be changed into nitrites by the oxidizing microorganisms. The oxidation procedure calls for vast volumes of oxygen to be able to take place. The rise in ammonia, which is additionally created by decaying algae matter, puts even more stress on the pond filtration system that houses the nitrifying bacteria.

How to Control Algae in Your Fish Pond:
By far the most effective way of handling suspended plank-tonic algae is to make use of a UV clarifier or UV sterilizer. The ultraviolet spectrum eliminates the single-celled algae, resulting in it expiring and sticking to other deceased algal cells. Make an effort to cover a minimum of one third the surface area of the fish pond with plants, since they contend with algae cells for the accessible vitamins in the pond water.

Conduct regular cleaning by getting rid of string algae and blanket weed by using a garden rake. Not all algae are bad for a fish pond however. In fact, algae can be quite helpful to the pond because it supplies a way to obtain food for fish, presents shade from the sizzling sun, and offers as a shelter from king fishers, heron, along with various other birds.

It really is alright to have a bit of algae on pond surfaces, filtration systems, as well as other pond maintenance gear. The key is to keep it in check with a probiotics solution such as an organic algaecide created with beneficial microorganisms.

Algae overgrowth can have disastrous consequences on the well-being of our ponds. Below are five factors that contribute the algae development and how it can be stopped.

#1: Excessive Fish
If this sounds like your situation, then immediately limit the volume of fish or add to the size of your organic filtration system. Keep in mind that fish grow in size and in quantity, therefore the scale your organic purification system which you believed might be the right size in the beginning, may not be the proper size for your pond now.

#2: Seasonal Changes
It is the start of the spring time or the later part of the fall when the pond encounters its largest change in the temperature of the water and biological bacteria development. If this is the situation, try to be calm and give your pond a few additional weeks.

Every single pond takes around four to six weeks in the beginning of the season to discover its new environmental equilibrium. When this occurs, the pond water will likely be green in appearance. In fact, you can count on it. At any time you increase the water level of your pond during the year, your pond is likely to turn green as well.

Simply add the most appropriate beneficial microorganism’s solution to provide your pond with good aeration and stay patient. Bear in mind, it will require several weeks, not just a couple of days. Never persistently drain and refill your pond because you will be consistently altering its ecological stability that it's striving to achieve – so give it a hand, be patient.

#3: Accumulation of Organic Matter
For those ponds that have more organic substances, like dead leaves, fish wastes, muck, sludge, and so forth, in them than the amount of beneficial microorganisms in your filtration system where beneficial microorganisms reside and flourish, you may either have to add to the size of your organic filter or increase the total quantity of beneficial microorganisms in your pond.
You can do this by one of two ways; basically increase the size of your filter of add more beneficial microorganism to your pond. You need to be incorporating beneficial microorganisms on a regular basis into your pond in any case.

#4: Too Much Water
Remain calm with your pond as it sets up its new environmental equilibrium. This often completes in about four to six weeks following the previous time you have added extra water. Whenever you add more water, you cause a difference in the pond which causes new algae to prosper and green water to occur. Simply have patience and increase the amount of beneficial microorganisms you add to your pond.

#5: Other Factors That Could Be Causing Algae and Killing the Beneficial Microorganisms in Your Pond
If you are introducing fresh water into your pond on a regular basis; quit doing so now. Allow the pond to find its new environmental stability. In the case that you are including beneficial microorganisms to it, but not disabling your UV clarifier or UV sterilizer, then make sure to turn it off no less than three to four days just prior to when you added the bacteria to ensure that the microorganisms have had an opportunity to attach themselves to the surface area within your pond or organic filter.

A few chemical compounds put into the pond can also be the reason for precisely what is wiping out your beneficial microorganisms. If that's the case, invest in an organic algaecide that contains beneficial microorganisms. You'll be killing two birds with one stone with such a solution as you will be eliminating algae as well as replenishing your pond with bacteria that will improve the pond's overall health.

An aquarium tank can be quite the exceptional addition to a home or workplace. There isn't anything more relaxing than viewing fish swimming in harmony through the clear, dazzling tropical water. On the other hand, there is practically nothing more unpleasant than an aquarium tank abundant with algae.

Below are a handful of concerns and tips to assist with algae management.

Just about all fish displays contain algae. A small bit of it is not necessarily harmful, however if it isn't controlled algae can multiply quickly and take control of your freshwater tank which is extremely troublesome to clean, not to mention unhealthy for the fish.

Green algae are normal for most freshwater tank owners. The two main varieties, green dot and hair, can be time intensive in addition to difficult to eliminate from the aquarium. These algae grow quickly in fish tanks that get an excess of sunshine.
The darker types of algae, such as black brush, generally grow soon after the initial set-up of the tank.

The algae development in fish tanks that have already been set up for a longer period of time may be related to problems with the level of phosphate or nitrate in the water.

The growth of these algae may also linked to excessive amounts of light. In order to eliminate it from the fish tank, in most cases you have to clean the entire tank extensively, decrease light exposure, and also make certain that the water condition is at a suitable temperature.

Blue-green algae and red brush are two additional varieties of algae that may develop in a fish tank. The red brush variety generally has a tendency to form in fish tanks having higher pH levels.

Blue-green algae are a slimier type which can be dangerous to both vegetation and fish in the tank.

One of the better processes to inhibit the development of numerous algae would be to manage lighting. For algae management, never place fish tanks close to windows and be sure to reduce the lighting to eight hours on a daily basis. Employing a lighting timer is a fantastic way to supply your fish tank with suitable quantities of light.

Much like your fish, algae have to consume to live. Algae develop best through taking in phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen. You have the capability to significantly enhance algae management in freshwater fish tanks by making certain that your tank is not overwhelmed by fish waste products, excessive food, or rotting vegetation. Additionally, perform water adjustments regularly and use a properly measured filtration system. Incorporating algae consuming agents to your aquarium would be a good option. Snails and algae-eating species of fish are able to assist in the management of algae within the tank.

You should be aware that snails can populate remarkably quickly, however with proper control including a snail and an algae-consuming species to a fish tank could very well be an excellent idea. Take note that when all of the algae are consumed, you are going to have to feed these fish with store-bought food.

It is not unusual for algae to start to re-populate within a clean fish tank during a time span of just three weeks. For regular algae regulation, be mindful with regards to overfeeding your fish, promptly remove any dead fish from the tank, be aware of the amount of light that the aquarium receives, and also use some type of filtering method. Additionally, remove any obvious algae with a scrubber designed for this sort of cleanup.

A really simple way to eradicate algae from a freshwater fish tank would be to apply a probiotic algaecide. This type of solution is perfectly safe for your fish and actually benefits the water in numerous ways due to the beneficial microorganisms contained with the product.
Our culture has become obsessed with eliminating bacteria; using gels and wipes to kill all the microbes that we have associated with illness, infection and death. But there are many types of microbes that are beneficial, which are helpful, even helping us in our fight against global warming by breaking down plastics and cleaning up pollution. Someday perhaps even developing into a cure for cancer.

Beneficial Microorganisms
Bacteria or microbes are everywhere in our world, and their presence of course has an effect on the environment they are living in. These effects of microbes on our environment may be beneficial or harmful, with some having no effect on humans at all.

Beneficial Applications
Outside the body, microorganisms are used widely in various applications that are beneficial, including pest control, food, as well as symbiosis of plants and stimulation of growth.

Oil Spills
There are assorted types of bacteria that can clean up the environment when major petroleum spills happen. There is a specific strain of bacteria called Alcanivorax that will quickly increase in population whenever an oil spill offers for them, large amounts of food, and they are able to remove much of the oil from these spills.
They were at work in the Gulf of Mexico during the Deep Water Horizon spill and are probably still there to help undo the damage that was done to the Gulf. Because they are able to help in this area, they provide an effect that is beneficial to our environment. This incident brought to the attention of scientists even more beneficial microorganisms that feed on oil than originally first thought. It is estimated that the annual seepage in the Gulf of oil is 140,000 tons and these microorganisms take care of that.

Produce Electricity
There are still other forms of bacteria having tiny wire appendages referred to as nano-wires and they not only digest toxic waste including PCBs and chemical solvents, they can also produce electricity while they are digesting the toxic waste. One bacterium, called Shewanella, is a type of microorganism from the deep sea that grows these nano-wires that seek oxygen when placed in low-oxygen environments.
Experts discovered that when the nano-wires are pricked with electrodes of platinum, they are able to carry a current. If these capabilities are harnessed effectively, they one day could be used in sewage treatment facilities to not only digest waste, but at the same time provide the power for the plant. There is currently no analytic on this form of bacteria.

Bacteria and Plastics
Non-biodegradable and far too present on our planet, plastic becomes a great problem when it comes to disposal. But in 2008, a student in Canada carried out an amazing science experiment where microorganisms were able to eat plastic.
Since that time, research teams have been working on the development of this ability and how to use it to our benefit. At the University of Dublin, a professor got these bacteria to metabolize plastic bottles that were cooked down into a new type of plastic that is biodegradable.

On Their Own
In the earlier part of the year, experts discovered that beneficial microorganisms were already breaking down plastics in the world’s oceans on its own, but it has not been shown whether this will have a negative or positive effect on the environment.
Some items such as fishing line as well as plastic bags are being devoured by these bacteria; the problem is that this waste could have potential harmful effects to ecosystems in the ocean as it travels up the food chain.
These are just several different ways that microorganisms are being beneficial to our environment. However, there is a greater need of research in the area.

What You Need to Know About Healthy and Organic Aquariums

By Clifford Woods

Since an aquarium is an environment that is artificial, it needs intervention from the owner. This intervention is needed especially during the initial period of set up as it is hard to be certain about the quality of the water. In most of the cases, water that is used is from the local water source might contain chemicals that are harmful to the fish, so it is imperative to pay attention to water quality at the source. Other than toxic chloramines and chlorine, the source water might also contain phosphate, nitrate, calcium, iron, silicate, and other chemicals in different quantities.

This is not the water to use for healthy and organic aquariums.

The clarity of water is not a real indicator of the quality of water. Testing the water at the source is the only way to know what is in local water. Test results will decide the pH adjusters/buffers and water conditioners needed to adjust the water conditions to what is needed in aquariums.
While the majority of aquarium fish are able to regulate water that is less than ideal, some species are so sensitive that they need precise conditions to flourish. So, knowing what is in the source water is very important, as action may be needed.

Phosphate and nitrate are major plant nutrients. Increases in these chemicals not only lower the quality of water, but can also affect aquarium health. The presence of these elements in high amounts often means high levels of organic material that is decaying, which is not suitable for healthy organic aquariums.

Waste materials in excess not only contaminate aquarium water, but also affect the pH of the aquarium. Some inhabitants of an aquarium are really sensitive to low amounts of nitrate. The precipitation of magnesium and calcium ions can lower abilities to buffer and eventually disturb aquarium pH or make it difficult to keep the pH stable.

Dissolved calcium can also make it hard to reach desired pH levels for freshwater fish that need conditions that are acidic. There is water conditioner that is multi-purpose and can detoxify nitrate as well as ammonia, chlorine, and chloramines in the water, making it an enormously beneficial aquarium accessory to have around. When the concentration of iron is high and dissolves in your tap water, it may tinge the water and give it a reddish and cloudy condition. This condition is more noticeable in aquariums, with oxygen content that is high. Iron that dissolves not only defaces the look of the aquarium, but also lowers the quality of the water.

The best means of eliminating dissolved items from tap water is a purification system can be used on the tap water. A “reverse osmosis” unit is the best filter you can buy. This filter powers water to go through a semi-permeable film that removes 90-99% of impurities from tap water. The result is water that is free of contaminants as well as minerals and makes water suitable for healthy organic aquariums.

One of these filters can be obtained for the aquarium itself. The major purpose for weekly or monthly maintenance is to remove organic matter from the aquarium. Generally, there are 2 types of organic wastes – dissolved and particulate. Particulate organic matter is the stuff that can easily be seen developing on the filter pads and in the gravel. Simply remove the filter pad, rinse it well and also wash the rocks.

These are all simple tips and what you need to know about healthy and organic aquariums.

It is a known fact that clean water is essential to all living things to be able to survive. With the environmental changes occurring at present however, the environment is at risk of losing clean water with all the uncontrolled pollutants that are incorporated in the water system.

There might be a time when clean water scarcity will be experienced all around the world.

One solution in addressing the problem of contaminated water is the use of beneficial microorganisms.

Beneficial microorganisms, either in the form of bacteria or fungi, have the ability to breakdown almost anything to use them for food as a source of energy. They are the reason for the decay of organic materials in the environment. Beneficial microorganisms, which we commonly term as good bacteria, are very helpful to the body since they fight harmful microorganisms or bad bacteria.

Aside from their benefits in the body, they also have some benefits in our environment, such as helping in production of clean water.
These beneficial microorganisms are versatile; they can adapt to any type of environment they are in. These have the ability to clean water and thus, they are incorporated to dirty ponds and lakes that need to be cleaned up. Although there are natural floras already present in the local environment, they have already been depleted by pollution and thus, the need to incorporate cultured microorganisms into them is imminent.

Beneficial microorganisms may be incorporated in ponds to produce clean water. Some types of beneficial microorganisms break down toxic ammonia present in ponds. They break them down into nitrites, which are converted into a useful form. An increase of nutrients present in the pond environment can also become harmful, beneficial microorganisms also feed on these excess nutrients.
A pond that is full of algae and dead plants has its oxygen content of the water depleted. The introduction of beneficial microorganisms can help clean water by feeding on these dead plants and algae and emitting oxygen back into the water. The pungent odors due to increase in algae and dead plants are also reduced. In this way, other living things present in ponds and lakes, such as fish are able to thrive in the environment. And people enjoy the clean water caused by beneficial microorganisms too.

Bad bacteria present in a pond environment can cause illness to humans resulting in ulcers, septicemia, and gastroenteritis. These harmful microorganisms are incorporated into water systems that mix with water sources and then come out in tap water, which all the while is thought as clean water. Beneficial microorganisms can eliminate stomach illnesses by releasing antibacterial properties.

Beneficial microorganisms are able to balance the ecosystem around their environment to help other living things to thrive, such as in the case of ponds and lakes to keep clean water flowing.

However, if the beneficial microorganism is out-numbered by harmful organisms and substances, the rate of pollution is faster than the breakdown from the beneficial microorganisms. They cannot do the entire job alone and so there is a need for humans to maintain cleanliness in the environment and to reduce pollution as much as possible to have unending supply of clean water.

It is important to implement methods that will keep the correct balance of both algae and bacteria so that a healthy ecosystem is maintained. Where matter and waste are allowed to collect in the bottom of the pond, the oxygen content eventually decreases, which means that beneficial bacteria or microorganisms are unable to control for high levels of ammonia and nitrites. Even the application of a pump or filter to aerate the water will prove ineffective.

Hydroponics and Beneficial Microorganisms

By Clifford Woods

Hydroponics is a subtype of hydro-culture or growing plants in water with nutrient solutions. It is a soil-less way of planting. Hydroponics derived its name from the Greek word “hydro” or water and “ponos” meaning labor.
William Frederick Gericke of the University of California at Berkeley was one of the first ones to cultivate plants on mineral nutrient solutions. Gericke coined the term hydroponics in 1937 (although he asserts that the term was suggested by W. A. Setchell, of the University of California).

Through these types of studies, it was discovered that plants could thrive not only in soil, but also in water, since water contains the essential nutrients and beneficial microorganisms that are also present in the soil.

Hydroponics turned out to be more advantageous than soil culture, because pests are easy to control in this type of system. In natural conditions, soil acts as a mineral nutrient reservoir but the soil itself is not essential to plant growth. When the mineral nutrients in the soil dissolve in water, plant roots are able to absorb them.
When the required mineral nutrients are introduced into a plant's water supply artificially, soil is no longer required for the plant to thrive.

Almost any terrestrial plant will grow with hydroponics.

Since the water environment of the plant can be controlled, nutrient solutions can be incorporated into the water depending on the nutrient needs of the plant. Many hydroponics growers also incorporate beneficial microorganisms as supplements to nutrients in the water.

There is actually a full range of ways to benefit from beneficial microorganisms, which can be utilized in hydroponics. The secret is only to know when to apply and how much to apply. Here are some of the benefits of beneficial microorganisms.

Development of Seeds and Clones
Beneficial microorganism is not just used on the hydroponics systems itself, but also for propagating seeds and also on developing the cuttings. This stage of crucial development in plant life and beneficial bacteria will help boost the growth and development of these plants and cuttings. During this time, beneficial microorganism incorporation should be three times the normal use.

Elimination of Pathogens in the System
Harmful microorganisms that cause diseases increase even in the hydroponic systems during root development. These harmful microorganisms, which are also called pathogens, result to plant diseases or plant death. There are certain types of beneficial microorganism that kill these pathogens.
It is important to know what type of pathogen is attacking the system to know what type of beneficial microorganism to incorporate in the hydroponics system. Moreover, these also strengthen plants defences against harmful pathogens in a way like the immune system is boosted by supplements.

Boosts Nutrient Uptake of Hydroponics Plants
Most beneficial microorganism types boost the nutrient uptake of plants in the hydroponics system by keeping the roots healthy by strengthening roots and increasing root size, since it is the one responsible for absorption. When spraying leaves with foliar fertilizer, these microorganisms may also be incorporated in the solution to enable the stomata of the leaves to absorb better.

Makes the Environment Suitable for Plant Growth
Beneficial microorganisms control the environment such as correcting the atmospheric nitrogen and producing nitrogen for plants, since plants cannot produce their own. Some fungi types also help in assimilating phosphorous when incorporated in the hydroponics system.

Hydroponics is a new way in cultivating plants where the environment can be controlled to eliminate any usual problems experienced from soil gardening. The strategy is to provide an environment that plants can thrive on and this is through providing the correct amount of nutrients supplemented with incorporating beneficial microorganisms.
Ponds under attack from green water, poor coral growth, algae and cyanobacteria and are the things that are responsible for your dying fish. These are factors that generally leave aquarists frustrated, and most of them, are brought about by the presence of phosphates in water.

What Are Phosphates?
Phosphates are naturally occurring compounds, which commonly form in water bodies. This is largely due to a number of sources, the major one being water sources. Soil and salt mixes that are swept into the water as a result of rain or wind are a major contributor for how does phosphate get into in a pond and these are usually harder to control than aquarium water.

It’s important to note that phosphates are the active ingredients in fertilizers. That being said, salt mixes that could be found in rocks surrounding the pond may be the reason why your water is choking.

How Can You Identify High Phosphate Levels?
Identifying the signs of high phosphate levels can be obvious (if you know what to look for), or they might be a bit more subtle and hard to recognize but here are a few:

The water color

Predominant presence of nuisance algae

Poor coral growth

Your water could indicate the presence of phosphates and if your pond is pea green, you need to think about phosphate testing. Nuisance algae predominance is also a good sign that your water is thriving with phosphates, since like already mentioned; it is the active ingredient in fertilizers and therefore, encourages growth of plants. And Algae of course is a plant.

Types of algae to look out for are black hair algae and slime algae as well. You can also identify signs of poor marine, such as unhealthy corals and poor survival rates of invertebrates, such as shrimp and snails. There is several phosphate testing kits you can use to identify phosphate presence in your water.

How to Remove Phosphate
Eliminating phosphates can be quite tricky and before you can conduct any elimination process, you need to first identify the cause. If you throw frozen foods into your ponds, this may the reason why there are high levels of the compound.
You may want to consider rinsing foods before feeding your fish or simply avoiding frozen foods. The water that frozen foods are frozen in sometimes has high phosphate concentrations.

Are there golf courses, farms or even fertilized gardens and lawns around your pond? If yes, run off from the rain are washing these phosphates into your pond.
Once you've identified (and hopefully eliminated) where the phosphate is coming from, you can start getting rid of what you already have.

Water changes with phosphate-free water can help cut down on your levels but can take time before you see a noticeable difference.

In salt-water aquariums, protein skimmers can help remove wastes and decrease the phosphate levels, and refugiums can be used in freshwater and salt-water tanks. There are various products in the market that can help you get rid of phosphates. These mediums act to absorb the compound or trap it for removal.
When a phosphate remover is applied into the water, it basically traps the phosphates and immobilizes them, making them insoluble nutrients.

Phosphates in ponds are harder to eliminate, since you cannot control what products people use in their lawns and farms.
That said, you can control the levels by always ensuring that your pond is clean and using a phosphate remover often. With persistent testing and removal, your pond can have a good water quality for your fish and other marine species to thrive better.
What is Phosphate?

By Clifford Woods

Phosphates, which contain phosphorus, are essential nutrients that contribute to the growth and metabolic reactions of all animals and plants. The quantity of phosphorus can either increase or limit growth. Since it is essential to the growth of plants and animals, an imbalance in the amount of the natural growth of phosphorus can produce harmful changes to the environment. This is when it becomes a job for a phosphate remover to handle.

Contributing Factors In Phosphates Overgrowth
The internal contributor in the growth of the presence of phosphates in your fish pond is from the mineralization of dead matter, such as plants, uneaten food, feces, fish slime, bacteria, etc. The rotting food particles or dead plant materials settle either within the filter or on the substrate. Vacuuming the gravel or rinsing filter materials every time you change the water in your pond or tank will substantially decrease the potential accumulation of phosphate deposits. The probable external sources, on the other hand, are additives such as frozen fish food, carbon or pH stabilizers.

Effects Of Phosphates In Fish Ponds
For people who raise fish on ponds, the elevated presence of phosphates means algae invasion and that is a big threat to the lives of your fish. Using a phosphate remover is ideal in this kind of pond situation. Partially, changing the water in your fish pond more frequently can also help. Once the growth of water weeds and algae in your pond becomes uncontrollable, they will dominate the use of oxygen until the water in your pond will not be able to support the life of your fish any more leaving them to die. So, use phosphate removers as soon as the presence of phosphorus becomes threatening.

Addressing The Issue With Phosphate Removers
The ideal amount of the presence of phosphates in your fish pond should be below 0.005 ppm. A phosphate remover will control the level of phosphates in your pond by reducing the amount of algae that grows in it.

When phosphate removers are applied into the water, it basically traps the phosphates and immobilizes them, making them insoluble nutrients.

For salt-water aquariums, it will maximize the coral growth in it. When buying them, make sure that you thoroughly check the brand specifications. Most often, it comes as phosphate mesh media bags or reactors.

Those that come in reactors need to be installed, while those that come in mesh media bags are packed with phosphate removal media and employed inside the sump or canister filter.

If you want to be rid of a persistent phosphate problem, be vigilant in eliminating the causes of its overgrowth in the first place instead of always relying on a phosphate remover to do the job for you. Avoid over-feeding your fish to reduce or eliminate the presence of uneaten foods. Choose a brand of fish food with the lowest levels of phosphates. Perform tank maintenance regularly by vacuuming the bottom of your ponds or tanks to remove plant decay, fish waste, and uneaten food. A filter’s job is to skim all dirt, so make sure you always remember to clean it, too.

Keep all these important maintenance steps in mind for your fish to have smooth-sailing lives.
Benefits of Having Organically Clean Ponds

By Clifford Woods

Anyone who has a fish pond in their yard wishes there was some easy way to clean it out. It can smell bad and you have to clean it out occasionally to keep it healthy for any fish, so they do not get sick and die.

Even if the pond has a filter, other gadgets and products from the store, there are still going to be times when you need to clean the pond. Ponds tend to become the most polluted parts of our environment. And due to the polluted water in ponds, lakes and rivers, they attract insects and other little creatures, which make the pond even dirtier and can turn it into a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

So, cleaning a pond is not only needed for providing a healthy environment for garden animals, such as frogs or toads, insects and your fish, but also to keep the population of mosquitoes under control. Ponds that are built well and are in harmony with nature will need less maintenance.

Something that ponds do benefit from is organic pond cleaning. This is a method that is beneficial to the health of the fish, as no harsh chemicals are used and the waste that is taken out has many other uses. The use of chemicals also drops the quality of the water making it hazardous for humans as well. In order to have organic healthy ponds; it is essential that only organic pond cleaners are used, as it can keep the ponds clean without any risk to all the life that lives there.

The pond does need to be cleaned at least once a year with the fall or spring being the best time, as the water is cooler during those months and the fish adapt better. If the pond smells bad – you have waited too long. If cleaning the pond is done on a regular basis, it will not get to the point where it might get smelly.

Move the fish to a water tank while cleaning or if you have several ponds, you can just move the fish to another pond. This makes it easier on the fish. You need a brush that is nylon for cleaning the sides of the pond. With the nylon brush, there will probably not be any need for harsh cleaners.

The silt that is on the bottom of the pond can be scraped up and be used in the garden as mulch. This silt is great for gardens and plants, and will make your garden soil really healthy. Another benefit is that this keeps all the essential minerals in the pond for the health and protection of the fish.

Organically cleaning your pond, makes healthy ponds and healthy fish. It also contributes towards a safer environment for any adults or children spending time in the yard and with pets quite frequently drinking the pond water, it will be safe for them too.

There are many ways to contribute towards a safer and healthier environment for all of us to live our lives and the benefits of having organically clean ponds can be one of them.

Keeping Ponds Clean With Organic Pond Cleaners

by Clifford Woods

A large number of pond owners are misconceived when it comes to the presence of algae in aquatic structures. The problem occurs where the algae is growing prolifically often distorting the color and the texture of the water.

A poor quality of water can actually stress and stunt the growth of fish and therefore understanding ways of keeping your pond clean and fresh can create a balanced ecosystem.
Where the water quality is not maintained, ammonia levels will be on the rise impacting on the health of fish. In a large number of cases, it will result in poor gill function and an inability for the Koi to breathe. Apart from the devastating impact on fish, the presence of large amounts of algae can create an unattractive looking feature.

It is important to implement organic pond cleaners which contain beneficial or effective microorganisms that will keep the correct balance of both algae and bacteria so that a healthy ecosystem is maintained.

Where matter and waste are allowed to collect in the bottom of the pond, the oxygen content eventually decreases, which means that beneficial bacteria or microorganisms are unable to control for high levels of ammonia and nitrites. Even the application of a pump or filter to aerate the water will prove ineffective.

Increased exposure to sunlight during the warmer months creates the ideal conditions for algae growth. The key is to manage the amount of waste entering water in order to control ammonia and nitrite levels. The implementation of aquatic bacteria to break down the high organic content safely and naturally can prove most successful.

Be sure to avoid placing large number of aquatic plants, twigs, branches and similar objects in the water as this will breakdown over time increasing the nutrient rich content in the pond.
With effective microorganisms and aeration systems in place the bacteria will begin to eat the extra nutrients and muck settling in the bottom of ponds for clearer water. Where you are able to reposition plants to provide shade and clean out filters, it may give the beneficial bacteria an opportunity to repopulate.

There are many products available to add the necessary microorganisms to the pond. Once these have been added it will work to decrease ammonia and nitrates and increase the overall oxygen content. The result is a drastic reduction in the presence of algae as all organic content is broken down without any harm to the fish present in the water.

Should the water turn a brown color, clear the area of all debris and leaf matter that may have fallen into the pond and settled on the bottom. The addition of suitable microorganisms will allow for acceleration in the break down of any remaining leaf or organic matter. Over time you will also notice the water beginning to clear and reduce the collection of sediment.

Keep your pond clean with organic pond cleaners

It is important to exercise regular maintenance. This includes cleaning filters and checking aeration systems. This will enhance the desired microorganism populations and the breakdown of excess waste.
* * *
Controlling Algae Naturally in Your Pond

By Clifford Woods

You have two choices in dealing with algae in your pond and that is with chemicals or naturally.
Chemical methods are fine if you there are no living creatures or plants in your pond because algaecides and chemicals will kill any and all life in the water. Normally chemicals would be used in a swimming pool or perhaps outdoor fountains, any water feature that does not have plants and or fish in them.
The natural way works with Mother Nature, not against her. You could use plants and fish, or good bacteria that would create and maintain a healthy well balanced ecosystem. Algae itself is a plant, it needs nutrients and light to grow so when you add plants to your pond they directly compete for the nutrients available. Add enough plants and you naturally minimize the nutrients available to the algae.
Over feeding your fish. Fish food that is not digested by the fish is the main pollutant in many ponds. Fish eat many things in the pond and that includes algae. Too much food for the fish increases waste and provides nutrients that feed the algae. When the algae goes on an over population bloom reduce or eliminate feeding until it is under control.
Reduce sunlight penetration: Cover at least half of the surface area of your pond with plants. Water that is not covered is much more difficult to keep in balance than ponds filled with beneficial plants.

Add beneficial microorganisms

colonies of healthy bacteria found in Pond Magician are a crucial part in ensuring a naturally balanced pond. When cooler water temperatures are present add more and during the warmer months add less.
Keep the water moving: pulling water from one end of the pond and then filtering it before it returns at the opposite end will greatly improve water quality. Oxygen is added to the water as it is circulated.
Water run-off from lawns and surrounding gardens can overload the pond with nutrients and that is not good for the life in your pond.
Create a run off or add a drain tile.
You must manually take out the dead and decaying plants and their leaves: Decaying leaves and or plant debris will also create excess nutrients in your pond. Skimmers are by far the most efficient and easiest way to keep your pond free of debris.
Water change: A partial water change (10-30%) every month or month and a half may also help reduce excess nutrients in some situations.
The Value of Clear Clean Ponds to the Environment

By Clifford Woods

Environment has remained the most neglected entity in the world throughout history with industrialists and businessmen totally forgetting that they live in a world which they share with other creatures. This neglect of the surroundings we live in has resulted in severe consequences for us humans in the present day and age, which are going to affect our future generations as well.

It is for this reason that people nowadays have started putting the environment above everything else. Business corporations and industries have started paying attention to the ecological system and are trying to find out ways to limit the pollution and to preserve our natural resources.

Why Is Cleaning a Pond so Necessary? Ponds are among the environments most polluted components. This is why finding a clean pond has become a rarity nowadays. All the polluted water from the factories and industries is dumped in these ponds, which has caused these freshwater havens for many creatures to become unclean and the breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects.

Thus, cleaning a pond is not only necessary for providing a healthy environment for useful garden animals like frogs and toads but also for keeping the population of mosquitoes under control.

How to Clean a Pond: For cleaning a pond, the use of an organic cleaner has proven to be vital for the safety of the other animals living in the pond. An inorganic chemical used as a cleaner can prove to be harmful for the aquatic life that lives there and can severely damage their population. Moreover, the use of chemicals also lowers the quality of the water and makes it unsafe for humans as well. Therefore, in order to clean a pond, it is vital that only the use an organic pond cleaner should be attempted, as it would keep the pond clean without posing any threat to the aquatic life that lives there.

Environmental Benefits of Clean Ponds:

A clean pond can be of great value to the environment. Not only does a pond make the atmosphere cleaner and provide water and a breeding place for many animals, it also provides people a chance to enjoy nature in its purest form.

In addition to this, clean ponds are great substitutes for gardens and since they have no grass they do not need to be mowed every few days, thus they save a lot of electricity that would have been used in mowing the lawns.

Another great environmental benefit of a clean pond is that its underwater soil is nutrient rich and can be used as natural fertilizer for in-door plants, thus saving a person the need to use chemical fertilizer for nourishing his plants. As the ponds do not require as much water because of their ability to store water from rainfall, they keep the water consumption down and help in saving water as well.

It is because of these amazing environmental benefits that ponds are considered an important constituent of our ecological system and are of great value to us. Having a clean pond is a blessing for a community or a household as it keeps the natural balance and provides a soulful place for the people to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Therefore, if you want to enjoy the ecological benefits that a clean pond can provide then always remember to use organic cleaners for cleaning your pond.
Tips for Keeping a Clean Pond All Year Round

By Clifford Woods

You have done all the work to create your beautiful pond. You've got the correct, colorful fish and the pumps are pumping, the plants are "just so" and you start enjoying.
You then do all the right things. Add the chemicals and things recommended and one day your pond is not as clear as it was. You cannot see your fish and worse - it's all green!
Oh no!

Well, here are some no chemicals tips for a clean, all natural, organic pond that you and your fish will love!

The first point is NEVER put any chemicals what-so-ever in your pond. They damage the environment; destroy natural vegetation and they can HARM your fish! If you are currently using chemicals, it is strongly recommend that you cease using them. At the very least, they are not safe for the environment.

Use effective microorganisms - always - an organic pond cleaner! Some kinds of microorganisms help us, but other kinds give us trouble. Among microorganisms, there are good bacteria and there are bad bacteria. Good bacteria cleans water, produce cheese, bread etc. and are of help to our health. Bad bacteria contaminate soil, pollute water and air. They cause sickness and disease and degrade health. So, look around. Do a little research and locate some effective microorganisms that you can use in your pond. Use organic pond cleaners, your fish will love you for it.

No Ultra Violet Lights - ever. Ultra Violet light does reduce the bacteria in the pond; however, the UV cannot tell the difference between the good bacteria and the bad ones. Because of this, a UV light kills the friendly bacteria in the Pond and in any effective microorganisms you are using - right along with the bad guys!

Use your dechlorinator. If your water is chlorinated or every time you add fresh water to your pond; dechlorinate. Chlorine is not good for the microbes in any effective organisms you use.
Plants and animals are not likely to store chlorine. However, laboratory studies show that repeat exposure to chlorine in air can affect the immune system, the blood, the heart, and the respiratory system of animals. Chlorine causes environmental harm at low levels. Chlorine is especially harmful to organisms living in water and in soil; so, use your de-chlorinator!
No sludge build-up! When effective microorganisms are used regularly in ponds, about every 6 weeks or so all-year-round, the black, stinky, smelly sludge build up on the bottom of ponds does not seem to happen.

Good practice:Some good practices when dealing with ponds are:

Calculate the gallons of water in your pond correctly. Use a calculator - The formula is: length x width x average depth x 7.5. This ensures that whatever you are adding to it is being added correctly to your pond.

If you have heavy rains, double the dosage of whatever effective microorganisms you are use.

Do not fertilize your pond plants. This also fertilizes the algae - and we do not want to be doing that!

Using effective microorganisms, at the recommended dosages, all-year-round (every 6 weeks or so) and keeping your pond dechlorinated whenever you add fresh water, will give you:

Happy fish

Thriving and beautiful plants

No green water

A clean, healthy, beautiful pond all-year-round!

What is Pond Magician and how does it work?

By Clifford Woods
Pond Magician (PM for short) contains beneficial micro-organisms which eat toxins. When they eat the toxins, they give off as a by-product antioxidants and probiotics (a substance containing beneficial micro- organisms) which are very good things for fish, plants, etc.
One very important thing to understand is that Pond Magician is NOT a chemical, nor does it contain any chemicals.
Sometimes you will see little white particles floating around on the top of your Pond Magician. These particles are just one of the ingredients in the product. They do not mean the PM is old or not longer good. Just keep the lid on tight so no air can get into the container as air tends to make these little white particles show up.
You may ask..."How do I know if the PM is still good?" Well, if it smells kind of sweet, similar to soy sauce, it is still good. When it goes bad it smells really bad and you can tell just by smelling the Pond Magician if it is still good or not. The shelf life of Pond Magician is 6 months after purchase.
It will last longer than that.
If you have a question about your Pond Magician, you should smell it. If you have had it for some time but haven't used it. The smell will tell whether it is good or not.

How Does Pond Magician work?

Pond Magician's millions of friendly microbes move through your pond and gobble up the organisms and pollutants that make your pond unsightly and smelly. Different than other pond and lake cleaners which solely treat organic substances, Pond Magician contains both beneficial aerobic (living or occurring only in the presence of oxygen) and beneficial anaerobic (grows and thrives in an oxygen-free environment) microorganisms and therefore can adapt to a wide variety of pond water conditions.
These two categories of microbes team up to eliminate the organic and inorganic pollutants that live in your pond. As these microbes do their work, you get the following benefits:

Your pond water will be as fresh and clear as water from a fresh running mountain stream.

Your pond fish and plants will be very happy, thriving.

Your fish and plants will live longer.

Your pond will have a very pleasant "alive and healthy" scent.

How much Pond Magician do I need?
First, you have to calculate the number of gallons in your pond using this simple formula:

Multiply the average length in feet of the pond by the average width in feet.

Then multiply that answer by the average depth in feet.

Then multiply that answer by 7.484. This answer is the approximate number of gallons in your pond.

Next, using the Table below, determine the amount of Pond Magician you need for two applications.
Gallons of Water in Pond:

0-1,000 Gallon Pond - 1 Quart

1000-5000 Gallon Pond - 1 Gallon

5,000 - 12,500 Gallon Pond - 2.5 Gallons

12,500 Gallon Pond or More Please call for specific instructions 818-897-4444
