Finally it's here! BBM for iPhone and Android! After all the waiting and anticipation now that you've got BBM it's no fun unless all your friends are on your contact list. With 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours and another 5 million in the queue I'd say that BBM is in high demand, but, after downloading BBM you are welcomed by an empty contact list. Here's an easy way to add BBM contacts through Facebook.

1. Update your Facebook status make sure you include this link www.pin.bbm.com/1234ABcd (but with your BBM PIN after the backslash)
You can also send the same link as a post on a friends wall or in a direct message or comment.

2. When your Facebook friends click the link while on their mobile device, if they have already downloaded BBM the App will instantly open up to the 'Invite By Pin' screen in BBM with your PIN automatically populated. They click SEND and an Invite will automatically be sent to you. Once you accept their invitation, they will instantly be added to your Contact List.

If your Facebook friend has not already downloaded BBM the link will direct them to the download flow. And it's that easy! We are once again reunited with BBM! Happy BBM'ing relapsing CrackBerry addicts!

Will the World Relapse into CrackBerry Addiction Once Again?

2013-09-23T11:51:00.000-04:00

All I'm hearing about is bad press for BlackBerry (so what else is new?)

But what I'm really interested in is the fact that 1.1 million people actually downloaded BBM in the AppStore and another million (just guessing) impatient people downloaded the leaked version for Android. Where are the reviews for the App? Where are the first impressions? Relapsed CrackBerry addicts where you at?

Were you able to download the App? If you actually did download it, it's not that much fun to use unless all your friends are on it too. But don't fret, soon you won't be alone. Hopefully BlackBerry can recover from the worst rollout ever and gain back people's trust.

Let's go BlackBerry! I'm sending you positive vibes amid the looming job cuts and nose diving stock prices, give the people what they want! Give them BBMForAll! (except Windows and Nokia)

How to Set your BBM Animated Avatar on iPhone

2013-09-21T23:49:00.000-04:00

bbm-animated.com The Best Source For BBM Animated Avatars for iPhone, Android and BB10

So you downloaded the BBM App for iPhone...but you can't get your BBM avatar to animate like your BlackBerry and Android friends?

Currently, iOS does not support setting animated GIFs from the iPhone image gallery or 'Camera Roll'. So if you are saving and setting your avatar this way - you can still use the avatars, however there will be no animation. Booooo!

But there is a way!!!!

Until BlackBerry fixes this issue you can only set the animated avatar by stealing your friends avatars from your contact list. Not the nicest solution but hey it works...

Here's How:

1. Start a chat with the friend who has a cool avatar that you want

2. Tap the header displaying your friend's name and animated avatar in the chat window

3. In the User Profile tap on the animated avatar

4. In the BBM Display Picture preview select the arrow icon in the top right corner

5. Select the option to 'Set as BBM Display Picture' and you're done!

BBM Etiquette

2013-04-15T11:10:00.001-04:00

So we all know that as far as interacting via real time internet based instant messengers BlackBerry Messenger takes the cake. As our mobile devices become more and more a part of who we are and how we communicate with each other is there then an unspoken etiquette or better yet, 'netiquette' we need to adhere to? With BlackBerrys widely used in corporations, both office and business etiquette overlap with the basic online social conventions, right? Actually, I think most of us with a company BlackBerry use BBM for our more 'non-professional' conversations because people feel that these are not tracked the way email can be. Chatting via BBM is basically the closest thing you can have 'virtually speaking' to a real conversation, and that is why it has become so popular outside of the office. But a lot can still be lost in translation. So how does one navigate through the world of BlackBerry Messaging without offending?

Be aware of response times. One feature of BlackBerry Messenger is the real-time confirmations when messages are delivered and read. The sender knows when you have received and read their message and therefore also if you have decided to ignore them.
Keep your contact list relevant. Adding new contacts is easy by simply scanning QR codes or sharing PINs but you don't want your contact list to get out of hand. Especially when you are sharing a mass message or photos or videos with multiple contacts at once. Not everyone cares about your broadcasted message that was really only meant for a select few.
Respect peoples' status` The recipient receives the all too familiar little chirp when they receive a new message and if their device is on silent or vibrate they will still receive that blinking light that tells them they've received a new message or email. If the contact has indicated they are busy in their status don't bombard them with messages. If they are like me, they won't be able to ignore those message notifications.
It's like a real conversation – Start with a greeting and Say goodbye. I'd say this is dependent on the nature of the relationship with your contact. If it's a business contact, work colleague or someone who you don't always message then the proper greetings and farewells are the polite thing to do. With my closer or more personal contacts the conversation never really ends so the formalities aren't always necessary.
Choose your words wisely. With the ability to save chat history you better stand by your words. Ever been in a dispute where you swore up and down that you had no clue you had to go with your girlfriend to visit her parents only to find out that on Saturday at exactly 10:23PM you sent her a BBM promising to be there. It can be damaging in other scenarios but I'd say significant others are most likely to use the recorded conversation histories to their advantage.

What will happen when BB10 finally drops?

2012-03-05T16:51:00.006-05:00

What will happen when BB10 finally drops in Q3?

So much emphasis is being put on BB10 making or breaking RIM. With all the anticipation surrounding the BB10 release it better be kick ass. I'm predicting bad media for RIM regardless. I can already see the headlines with the aire of disappointment and underwhelmed sentiments because of not living up to all this hype and anticipation.

iPhone5 rumored launch date will be in June or November which will surely make an impact on the BB10 launch. I'm hoping we'll see some devices actually make an appearance at BlackBerry world. Will it be too little too late?

I think the remaining BlackBerry users are fully aware of the limitations of their devices (slow browser, dated interface and limited App selection) but they stay with BlackBerry because they like the form factor, physical keyboard or security etc... I don't think they're looking for a fully touchscreen device.

Once the fully touchscreen device is on the market it still won't be able to compete with the iPhone but may give another option to users who currently are opting for Android or Windows devices. I would like to see a BlackBerry Bold running BB10 now that would be cool. I hope we won't have to wait too long to see that.

Waiting for RIM to Bring it

2012-03-01T15:49:00.000-05:00

By now I'm sure you've seen all the cool demos coming from RIM at Mobile World Congress. But let's do a flashback to the new year where many a blog splashed headlines of a BlackBerry 10 unveil at MWC and Playbook 2.0 at CES in January. So CES has come and gone and the Playbook software update didn't come until mid February, and in all fairness, late as it was, did receive some good feedback. Now as far as the BB10 devices? Still a no show.

With all the super impressive future concept demos I have to ask, is it all smoke and mirrors?

Every year wireless industry professionals flock to MWC to showcase their top products however this year RIM has nothing to show. Analysts are predicting even more negative effects for RIM due to the launch of iPhone 5 ahead of RIM's first BlackBerry 10 handset due out in September.

We're seeing some kick ass innovation but they need to get this stuff to market!

Hyper Social on BBM - Facebook and Twitter Integration

2012-02-24T17:03:00.000-05:00

Research In Motion (RIM) has announced interconnectivity of popular social networking applications Facebook and Twitter with BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), with the release of new Facebook and Twitter for BlackBerry 3.0 apps. The applications are now available in in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. Interconnectivity of social media applications with BlackBerry messenger will definitely be a big step towards offering greater ease of use to users. Source: IBNLIVE

So my tweets or my Facebook status can be shared with my BBM contacts as my BBM status update. But I can't do the opposite like send my BBM status update as a tweet. I can't start a chat through BBM with my Facebook contact or say start a BBM chat about a tweet with my Twitter contact.

Are we really interconnected? Currently, I can't tie in my Facebook or Twitter contact to my BBM contact. I'd like to see one common contact (like on the Playbook) The native Contacts on the Playbook combine all of my FB, Twitter and LinkedIn data and email contact. Each person has ONE record which displays all of the info you have on them from each source.

Maybe this will be something to look out for on BB10.

No BBM on Playbook OS 2.0?

2012-02-21T12:07:00.000-05:00

Happy #TwosDay New Playbook 2.0 OS has been released. With all the updates available the notable missing application is BBM. Does anyone really care? If BBM was available on Playbook how many people would even use it?

To use BBM you need to use the BlackBerry Bridge which provides a Bluetooth connection between the Playbook and your BlackBerry smartphone. Since the clearance sale of Playbooks nationwide there may be some consumers who don't necessarily have a smartphone to bridge with and only have the Playbook they got on sale or as a door prize at their company Christmas party.

Also consider, a tablet is a device that is sometimes used by multiple people in a household and a handheld device is much more personal. I wouldn't want my brother reading my BBM messages on the household Playbook. The Bridge is more of a novelty. How often is your BlackBerry not close at hand even when at home? Would BBM be as engaging of an application anyway if it was only used on a WiFi PlayBook? I don't think
BBM would be the same experience without my handheld.

I can see groups being a good application to have on the PlayBook - BBM Bridge still doesn't support it, either way this would be the next feature that should definitely be built for the next release of BBM on the PlayBook.

A Tale of Two Phones

2012-02-20T03:19:00.000-05:00

Okay so I'm just gonna say it. I have an iPhone. Before all TeamBlackBerry calls me a traitor I'm sure I'm not alone. Many people carry around two devices or more these days. A BlackBerry as their business device and an iPhone (or Android whatever) for fun. Yes the iPhone has games and an endless variety of Apps, it's user friendly and has a great browser. I'm on Twitter alot and Twitter on iPhone is a much better user experience than on my BlackBerry.

But on the other hand I would never send out a business email or talk to my friends on iMessage the same way I use BBM. That's why I won't give up on my BlackBerry. Tools not Toys? Based on what I've seen on the Playbook hopefully BB10 fills the gaps and there won't be any need to carry around two phones. We'll just have to wait and see. I still represent TeamBlackBerry to the fullest. Don't judge me!

Beefin'

2012-02-20T02:17:00.000-05:00

My BBM Wishlist

2012-02-18T23:14:00.001-05:00

BBM is obviously great. Many other apps have some of its features but BBM is the only one that has ALL of them in one package. Until another app is able to do all this and more, BBM still comes out on top. But how can it be improved? Maybe some of these features will be part of RIM's next leaked roadmap.

VoIP because there are instances that are better off with an actual good ol’ telephone conversation. Sometimes you just can’t properly have a lovers quarrel via BBM. And if you could make phone calls through BBM you wouldn’t even need the recipient’s phone number.

Video Sharing You can definitely send videos over BBM, but it has to be low quality (MMS Mode) in order for it to fit the capacity of transfer file sizes. An actual "send video" menu option would be nice.

Message Recall because of the instantaneous nature of instant messaging I don’t think that this is technically possible but it could be something users would like and use. Especially all those drunk texters out there, and there are many. Currently the only way to recall a sent BBM is to ensure it hasn’t been read by the recipient and then delete the contact and the chat altogether.

More Emoticons you really can’t get your mood and point across as well without fun emoticons. How can I properly relay my angry feelings or send a “crotch punch” without the proper visual representation of the said action or facial expression using punctuation marks and letters?

Hooking up via BBM

2012-02-11T16:24:00.000-05:00

Do you use BBM to flirt? Do you use BBM to hook up?

Gone are the days that you have to give out fake phone numbers to people trying to pick you up. You can simply share your pin and you can always delete them in a couple of hours with little to no regret. No more screening phone calls and avoiding that stalker that you shouldn't have given your number to.

You still need to have permission to BBM people so it's more intimate and immediate than texting. You can exchange PINS and start chatting rite away, getting to know eachother, and if you want - things can get pretty steamy. You can also make things more attractive by setting a sexy avatar or adding a flirty personal message as your status update.

What puts BBM lightyears ahead of texting is the ability to know when your messages are sent, delivered and read. It's the next best thing to a real conversation. Immediate response times are mandatory and keep up the excitement mid-flirtation. You'll know right away if you're being ignored. So it's best to schedule those booty calls ahead of time before the alcohol gets you slurring your words (or misspelling your BBMs)

And if you don't have that special someone yet don't fret - magic can happen over a spontaneous drunken BBM text (trust me I know) So BBM addicts, Valentines Day is just around the corner. Who will you be sexting?

Does BBM need a physical keyboard?

2012-02-08T11:35:00.000-05:00

You have seen the leaked BlackBerryLondon rite?

It’s no question that BBM is probably the best product that RIM has to offer with over 50 million active users worldwide. People love BBM. It’s what puts the crack in crackberry. Part of the addiction is that tactile feeling of the keys. But with the new design, will this kill the BlackBerry experience we’re used to? RIM has been slow to follow the full touchscreen trend, but will diehard fans who are accustomed to the convenience keys and trackpad be agreeable with the change? I hope that the introduction of the new design will not see the disappearance of the physical QWERTY keyboard altogether. The physical keyboard offers so many advantages in accuracy and productivity. The feedback you get from physical keys means you’re less likely to mistype or have issues with fat fingers. No doubt you can type longer and faster which makes a difference for business users writing long emails and power BBMers. Although market trends say the masses are fans of the full touchscreen, experienced physical keyboard typers can use their BlackBerry with one hand and type without looking at the keys (yah I can do that) touchscreen requires you see what you’re pressing. Game changer for RIM? It will definitely be the deciding factor if RIM will stay in the game. I forsee a buttonless Berry in our near future.

The SwaggBerry Culture

2012-02-03T12:20:00.000-05:00

Have you noticed the popularity of the BlackBerry smartphone in Hip Hop music? Is it just me or are alot of Rappers rolling with money, hoes, cars and clothes - and their BlackBerry? Widely used by Enterprise as a business device it is oftentimes associated with suits and stocks but the BlackBerry of today is highly popular to the young urban crowd. BlackBerrys are also endorsed by countless celebrities - while iPhones are still associated with douchbag hispsters.

Is RIM seeding this product placement or do Rappers really prefer the device? The BlackBerry still has that essence of being serious about business and making money the Rap community like and identify with. The BlackBerry is more of a tool that helps you to stay connected with your peeps and make that paper, and not just a toy for playing Angry Birds.

You hear about BlackBerry’s in hip hop lyrics all the time and all sorts of Rappers are often photographed with their phones. It’s a well-known fact that Drake even writes all his lyrics on his BlackBerry device.

BlackBerry was recently named the number one smartphone in the UK and it’s no wonder with plans being more affordable than other smartphones on the market, it’s especially become popular among ghetto youth becoming somewhat of a fashion trend. Who can blame them with FREE BlackBerry Messenger in comparison to 10p per text message.

Get your SWAG on Team BlackBerry…

BBM or iMessage, which team are you on?

2012-02-03T11:27:00.000-05:00

Every day I hear someone complain about their Blackberry or RIM in general. Be it the random white screen of death that just comes out of nowhere or issues with service going down or cheesy cartoon characters, it's the same old story. As we emerge from the holiday hangover many a customer has received a shiny new smartphone under the tree. Last I checked iPhones account for 25 percent of all mobile browsing and RIM's Blackberry trailed with 3.5 percent down from 20 percent market share in the summer. Maybe it’s even lower now. Maybe the highly anticipated BB10 will change the game?

There are definitely a good number of people who have made the switch to RIMs other competitors. But despite the fast decline in users as far as the stats goes, in real life I still see people with BlackBerrys all around me. Maybe because I live in Canada (RIM’s homebase) The 3.5% is definitely not representative of my network. As far as I'm concerned everyone is still on a Blackberry and l feel left out if I'm not part of their BBM group.

And for those who were seduced into purchasing the iPhone 4s, I ask, "So, what do you think of iMessage?" to which I often hear "It's OK, but it's no BBM.. "

Is Blackberry Messenger the reason that 3.5% is still holding on?

Here are the reasons we still like BBM:

1. You have to be on iOS5 in order to use iMessage So although you are on team iPhone that doesn't mean that you can use iMessage. I do have some friends who are on iMessage but we really don't interact with eachother as often as my friends who are on BBM. It's just not that engaging.

2. Theres no invitations in iMessage If the contact in your list has an iPhone 4s then you automatically have the option to iMessage each other. Why is this con? You don't know who is on iMessage. BBM for me is about my close friends circle- if anyone can message me, why would I care to check the messages? Ever hear of inbox overload, it applies to messaging as well

3. BBM Groups iMessage only supports a very basic Multi-Chat experience. On BBM you can create groups, have various group chats and broadcast messages to a particular group as well. You can also share photos, lists, calendar entries and media files with your BBM group. Again iPhone may have other apps that support group message - it lacks in giving that single integrated experience

4. Personalized Profiles BBM has a social networking aspect as well you can set status and personal message - similar to a Twitter or Facebook newsfeed. You can let your friends know what song you are listening to right now. And who can forgot - set a personal display picture, even an animated one ;)

5. Its Addictive Something about seeing the little received ‘R’ pop up makes people feel more connected. Its gives your messages substance. It makes you feel somehow closer to the person you are communicating with. By being always on, you never have to worry about signing in or waiting for others to sign in.

So although RIM stock continues to plummet as they continue to recover from the service outage fiasco, Playbook sales and daily backlash in the media there are still some diehard Blackberry fans out there mainly because they are still hooked on BBM. I had one friend who cursed her Blackberry up and down on a daily basis, until she finally got an iPhone only to switch back to a Blackberry because she needed her BBM back.

There may be hope for RIM after all.

You don’t need an App for that…

2012-01-28T14:44:00.000-05:00

Recently an App has been released on AppWorld offering Animated Avatars for BlackBerry Messenger. Why download an App when you can get the image in 5 seconds from our SITE?

You need to skip the download.
Here's why….

It's a buggy App, hence the multiple updates in a week
The App has grown to more than 5MBs!!! and takes about a minute and a half to download (BBM itself is only 4.1 MBs)
You need to reboot your phone in order to complete the download (another minute and a half)
Once the download is complete the App asks for Trusted Application Status to access phone information. Why would an App for BBM display pics need that?

What's worst is if you already downloaded it and are going thru the upgrade it takes EVEN LONGER!

The App claims to offer hundreds of options but who wants to browse through a bunch of cheesy images? The only good ones they got are available at our SITE. We only choose the COOLEST animated avatars.

What ever happened to IM?

2012-01-27T12:39:00.000-05:00

I like staying in touch with friends but I've never been a phone person. That's just NOT ME. So when instant messaging gained popularity it was perfect for me. You can now THINK before you speak...and edit and spell check and add emphasis on certain words through a wide array of fonts and really express your feelings accurately via emoticons.

When I started out I could barely type but enter ICQ (remember that?) and I learned to type like the wind without even looking at the keyboard. When I entered the workforce, multitasking became so important as I juggled conference calls and spreadsheets all the while hiding my chat window as I happily exchanged funny pictures with my friends and flirted with boys on MSN. I was so hooked on instant messaging. I could be at work and still be fully engaged with my peeps. So whatever happened to IM?

With social media on the rise, sites like Twitter and Facebook immediately took over. Facebook even has it's own IM client. For me the ending came when I switched jobs and downloading MSN was blocked at my new workplace, instead opting for an internal (for work only) IM client. Where's the fun in that? So the way I communicated with my friends changed forever. Thank God for BBM!

The real ending of Instant Messaging from your computer ended when texting and then BBM became the communication of choice and social media became so easily accessible via your mobile. Maybe there are still some people out there using MSN but I sure don't know any. Gone are the days when you have to politely end your convo or close the chat window or update your status to 'BRB' or 'away from the computer' because on a mobile device the conversation really never has to end.

I think I downloaded the mobile version of MSN but the whole download and having to sign in was too much trouble, along with delayed and unsent messages. It just goes to show how quickly the customer can lose interest and move on. With the latest updates to BBM (emoticons, animated avatars, colored chat windows) some would argue that it's essentially turning into MSN. Are our mobile messaging dreams really coming true? What do you think?
