On Saturday 3rd March the group will be singing in the St Andrews round of the Voice Festival UK along with groups from around Scotland.

We’ve had great fun at our concerts and bookings over the festive period where we were engaged in the suitably Christmassy tasks of meeting old friends, following stars and giving gifts.

We began on the 9th December by singing in the St Andrews University A Cappella society Christmas concert infront of a fantastic audience in St Andrews’ Younger Hall. A video of our performance, courtesy of Bubble TV, can be found below.

Undeterred by the inclement weather the group of 2010/11 made their way down to London to take part in the St Andrews University London Alumni Club’s Carol Service in Southwark Cathedral and unexpectedly were asked to provide entertainment at the recption afterwards. The following day the same group of nine Other Guys were pleased to perform at our second concert in aid of the Muir Maxwell trust. Following a performance at Fettes College in Edinburgh over the summer the group performed at the Savoy Hotel in London hosted by Natasha Kaplinski and Angela Ripon. The group were delighted to be able to donate £400 to the Muir Maxwell trust who work with families coping with epilepsy. Find out more on our charities page.

Back in St Andrews a small audience were invited to join The Other Guys in an intimate Christmas event called Carols not from Kings. Each guest recieved a Christmas goody bag not from Mitchell’s (just in a Mitchell’s bag), extremely suspect mulled wine not from the criterion, readings not from the Bible and a cappella definately from The Other Guys.

Finally we finished the year by leaving the home of golf to visit the home of a golfer. We sang at a charity dinner hosted by Colin Montgomerie in aid of the Elizabeth Montgomerie foundation who are seeking to raise £3million to build a Maggies Cancer support centre in Aberdeen. The Other Guys donated £150. You can find out more on the charities page and we hope to be able to publish pictures from the event soon.

The Other Guys will return to bring more acapella to Britain in the New Year!

Then, on Friday 9th December the group of 2010-11 will be taking part in the 7th Annual St Andrews Alumni Carol Service at Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge at 6.45. Graduates, their friends, families and flatmates are all warmly invited.

Finally, on Monday 12^th December at 7.30pm, The Other Guys present ‘Carols not from Kings’ our Christmas concert. Festive food, gifts and music will abound as we celebrate, or spoof, everything we enjoy during the festive season.  Details of the venue and tickets will be made public soon.

The scholarship, worth £70 000 will give someone the opportunity to study at St Andrews University who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to do so. We are pleased to be able to give back to the University where successive generations of Other Guys have sung and studied and that spawned the Royal Romance between Kate and Wills that inspired our recent Video and Album. Our thanks go to Dr Louise Richardson, Principal of the University for her support.

We had great fun this week walking the three streets of St Andrews with Rory McLion raising money for Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS), one of the chosen charities of the Student Union’s Charities Campaign.

Finally, The Other Guys are delighted to have been invited by Colin Montgomerie, who captained a winning Ryder Cup team, to join him at a Christmas fund raising event for Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal Aberdeen. Colin set up the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation in memory of his mother, having lost her to cancer in 1991. Monty’s current project is to raise £3million in order to bring a Maggie’s cancer support centre to Aberdeen. This charity fund has already passed the £1million mark. The Other Guys will be making a donation to this charity having taken part at a fund raising dinner that takes place soon. Here’s some further information about Maggie’s Aberdeen project.
