7 Days in Gold Making: 25/04/13

High level cloth -> High level essences

I am still buying all the windwool I can get my hands on and turning it into Ethereal shards. Prices have risen in the past few weeks, no more 10g windwool stacks /sadface now it is closer to 40g.

I craft the 458 bracers and use the ethereal shards to make sha crystals once a day and also make mysterious essence. I always end up with lots of spirit dust when DE'ing the rings from ghost iron ore, having a source of very cheap mysterious essences helps me keep all the scrolls stocked up to 20 or 40.

Low level cloth -> low level dust

I was levelling my enchanter and needed 155 Vision dust and there was none of the Action House so off i went to wowhead to figure out what to make. I now buy up any mageweave cloth below 15g a stack and sell the dust between 4 - 5g each and the essences for 25 - 35g.

BS is such a big share mainly due to belt buckles.

1% misc section is random items i picked up while pet battling like low level herbs or leather.

Scrolls includes MoP and BoA scrolls.

Making Gold with Engineering in Patch 5.2 by Marcus Ty

The Engineering profession is often seen as a poor means to make gold in World of Warcraft and many players tend to avoid it in favor of professions such as Inscription or Jewelcrafting. But on the right server and with a little local knowledge of the market, Engineering can be a great addition to a gold makers armory of professions.

Reduced Competition

If you look on sites like www.wowuction.com you can get a breakdown of the professions on your server. On my server, everyone seems to want to be a Scribe and a Jewelcrafter. I can understand this as many players see this as the route to riches. However, the competition can be fierce and many players end up spending most of their time undercutting and canceling auctions, resulting in a few gold profit. But there are fewer Engineers on my server and that’s a great advantage because competition is reduced and I can dominate the market - or at least own more of it for a greater profit.

What to Craft in Patch 5.2

I’ve always loved the Engineering profession in World of warcraft. It’s the Tinker in me and the fact that you can craft exploding sheep. I love the smell of Seaforium in the morning! But there are many other cool gadgets to craft. A number of Engineering items that can make you a tidy profit happen to be super alt friendly and can help you boost your ilvl to get into heroics.

Gears of Warcraft

One such group of items that took many a gold maker by surprise was the introduction of Tinker’s Gears. These are a socket enhancement to crafted Engineering gear and trinkets that have proved to be a huge seller on many servers. They come in several flavors:

Flashing Tinker’s Gear    +600 Parry
Fractured Tinker’s Gear +600 Mastery
Precise Tinker’s Gear     +600 Expertise
Quick Tinker’s Gear        +600 Haste
Rigid Tinker’s Gear         +600 Hit
Smooth Tinker’s Gear     +600 Critical Strike
Sparkling Tinker’s Gear   +600 Spirit
Subtle Tinker’s Gear       +600 Dodge

By looking on www.wowuction.com you can see what’s in demand. Not surprisingly the biggest sellers on my server are Smooth, Quick, Rigid, Fractured and Precise. Engineer’s can craft them using just two Ghost Iron Bars. On my server they sell on average for 75g. Now that’s a great profit!

Ghost Iron Dragonling

The reason that Tinker’s Gear are so popular is the introduction in patch 5.2 of the Engineer crafted Ghost Iron Dragonling. This trinket accepts three Tinker’s Gears in any combination. This is a non-Engineering specific trinket that any player can use, greatly increasing it’s demand across the various realms. On my server the Ghost Iron Dragonling is selling for around 250-300g. I normally craft 4-5 of these trinkets a week and list the most popular Tinker’s Gears at the same time, greatly adding to my weekly profit.

Summary

Engineering can be used effectively to make gold if players learn what’s in demand on their server. Sites like wowuction.com and the Undermine Journal can help make sense of the market for any given profession. The introduction of the Ghost Iron Dragonlin and Tinker’s Gears in patch 5.2 is an example of the types of gear that Engineers can craft for a great profit. The lack of players with the Engineering profession greatly reduces competition on many servers.

April Gold Making 2013

Yesterday I hit four million gold liquid, it has been a month with high sales but also some heavy spending. I got back into pet battles (aka losing many many pvp battles and then throwing gold at it) , I decided to make lots of flasks so that every minute I spend levelling alts in MoP I will be flasked. I got my 10th level 90 and finally got my Monk into Pandaria.

Pet Battles

I got back into pet battles once i learnt about the new "Trainer" title coming in patch 5.3. I decided my 17 level 25 pets was'nt enough and ended up spending around 120k on pets and pet levelling services. I managed to pick up four tcg pets including a Purple Puffer which is a very powerful pet.

Trade chat was being spammed with pet levelling services and i managed to negotiate some bulk discounts which basically meant it cost me between 1-1.3k per pet levelled from 1 to 24.

A slight warning about buying these levelling services is try and find a level 90. I was seeing a lot of level 1's offering the service ( give them your pet they will level it up on their main realm) however if after the trade they delete the level 1 I am not sure you will be able to get the pets back. Also dont pay the levelling charge upfront and dont get tcg valuable pets levelled this way unless you trust the person offering the service.

Warbringers for rep and gold

As I try to make more gold on the opposite faction I have started farming Warbringers again for the rep items. On my Blood DK I can solo them so if I can get online during raid times or very early in the morning I can do a complete sweep where i can kill nearly all the warbringers and a lot of the scouts. The contents of the rare quality bags are worth around 600g on my realm.

I still dont have every SoH recipe yet so this is something I want to complete. As of today I am currently missing all LW recipe on horde side while on the alliance side all BS recipes.

Golden lotus, Resetting Gems and Pricematch, learnt all gem cuts finally

A few weeks ago I noticed one of my main competitors was price matching me, and so I pricematched back but over the weeks since 5.2 there are now 7 people in the JC market all whitelisting each other which helps to keep prices high and reduces the amount of times I post gems per day.

Taking another look at your "system"

Firstly i'd like to say that if your system requires you to vendor items below the amount you paid for them then maybe you need take another look at your system.

I recently watched a livestream where Jim was vendoring 83-84 greens which he sells for like 300-400g each. His reasoning behind this was he did’nt want them filling up his guild bank so only kept one extra item.

However if he bought the item why is he vendoring it for 12g? I sometimes have a lot of a specific suffix 83-84 greens I just pop them in the mail and I’ll get back in 30 days. It is highly likely by then I will need more of that item.

Space should never be the main issue in a relatively small market, I know these items don’t stack like scrolls or glyphs but they are not so hard to manage if you use a guild bank or unlimited mail storage.

I myself have 7, 8, 9, 10 copies of the exact same 83-84 green,I know I can post 1 - 2 and drop the others in the guild bank or mail them off.

Everyone has there own “system” but adding in a long term view to your system whatever it is can not be a bad thing. Make it less about what will sell today or tomorrow and more about what will sell this month, next month which is especially true in flipping markets.

Oh how I miss you Enchanting Rods

I made so much gold from this market, there was always demand because enchanting was a very popular profession to level up. A lot of cloth wearing players seemed to choose enchanting and tailoring as professions.

You might pair your engineering with mining and if you hit a bottleneck you could go out and mine up some more ore. However very few players paired enchanting with Blacksmithing. This meant you had to get the item off the Auction House, ask someone you knew to craft it for you or if you got really desperate try and find someone in trade chat.

The Auction House was the easy place to get Enchanting Rods because it was a little complicated.. First smelting if you did'nt have the bars or ore was much cheaper then sometimes crafting grinding stones then crafting the rod.

I think Arcanite was my best seller because there was an extra step involved, you needed to have/find an Alchemist who had the recipe for Transmute: Arcanite

From Vanilla to Cata people were selling enchanting rods, it was a fantastic market to make gold even if you did’nt have a maxed profession and it was a great way to learn about controlling niche items like arcane crystals. A lot of people focus on the “ new stuff ” where there is the volume however if you know the markets you can get higher margins on the lower volume “ old stuff ” .

Zarazaz from Alterac Mountains expressed it really well here :

“making each enchanted rod is a quest in itself. i enjoy that epic feeling of conquest when i completed each one, and i wouldn't want that to go away. maybe in addition to the pile of mats, I'd like to see some actual quests involved ... that include dungeon runs even!

As an enchanter the rods gave the profession unique flavour. Farming the fishy creatures of Azeroth for their clams and then after a while having a bag full of clam meat and that one pearl you needed really was an epic experience that I’m sad new enchanters won’t enjoy.The cost of rods might have been a barrier to entry for the profession so those that invested into levelling enchanting could reap greater rewards at max level.

March Gold Making 2013

The month started with some professions kit sellling, by sorting out my guild banks and a few hours of farming while in LFR queue I managed to put together 7 profession kits. As of writing i've sold only 2 alchemy kits so far for total of 23k in sales. I will look again at my prices and might drop them for my other kits.

I get a lot of whispers about Blacksmithing kits however when you say you can provide one for 15k they are no longer interested. Out of all the profession Blacksmithing is the one I get asked about the most however these same people are reluctant to pay more than 10k to buy one. For now I continue to bark my current kits and dont plan to make any more

Leveling alts 88-90

So I have used this spot on three of my toons so far, you will need rested xp and a battle standard is very useful.

Go to 60,87 Townlong Steppes

Fast respawn mobs and a rare , also nearby is a quest mob called Needlebottom that gives you 100k xp with rested xp. The respawn time is around 45 seconds.

If the rare spawn is up kill it if you can, very easy on a tank or pet class.

1) kill all the mobs including the turtles that spawn near the rare spawn
2) Kill Needlebottom
3) kill 1-2 mobs nearby
4) Repeat 1-3

Drop your banner in the turtle area for the most benefit. Also you can queue LFD while you grind these mobs.

Great spot if you are getting a little bored with TS, DW questing.
