Unfortunately, the United States Postal Service (USPS) increased shipping rates for everyone on January 26th, 2020. They do this every year, and sadly there's no way to avoid it.

My husband and I have evaluated the rate increases, and have determined it's necessary to modify our shipping offers starting, today, January 26, 2020. I hope you understand.

How much coverage do I get with a Pint of Fusion?

More than you might think!  Many are often blown away by the coverage of Fusion Mineral Paint! From 1 Pint, you can paint several pieces of furniture, and that’s for around $22!  On average, One Pint of Fusion Mineral Paint covers about 75 square feet, or, 2 coats of a larger dresser.  You would need about a quart of chalky type of paint to get that kind of coverage! How many colors?

Do I have to finish my piece with wax?

No, you don’t have to finish your piece with wax because Fusion was formulated with a built in top coat! Once cured, it yields a highly durable, stain-proof, washable finish that is UV resistant, with no need for a top coat!  If you choose, of course you can achieve a beautiful luster by adding a wax on top. We have a whole array of beautiful decorative and faux finishes to choose from, to give your piece that little extra protection or a desired look.

Is Fusion™ the same as a Chalk-like Paint?

No, it’s not. Fusion™ is a 100% acrylic, water-based paint.  Using natural rather than synthetic pigments allows for greater depth in colour and better durability to UV light and time. Once cured, a surface painted with Fusion™ is both water and stain proof. No primer or top coat is required, making it more of a one-step kind of paint.

Wait, if it's not chalk paint, can I "distress?" 

Yes, you can get a distressed or layered look!  Because of Fusion’s™ supreme adhesion, distressing can be tough once the paint is cured. If you would like to do some distressing, we recommend doing it soon after the paint dries or by using our wax block resist.

Can I really paint any surface with Fusion™ Mineral Paint like metal or glass?

Yes, our Ultra Grip™ allows for Fusion™ to adhere to surfaces that are typically not for painting such as a lacquered surface, metal or glass.

When do I use Fusion™ Tough Coat™?

Fusion's Tough Coat™ was developed for those high traffic surfaces such as table tops, seating, and kitchen cabinets.  Tough Coat™ is non-yellowing and provides extra durability against general wear and tear, water damage and food stains.  It is not recommended over medium to dark paint colours due to water vapour being trapped which could cause streaking.  Instead use the Natural Stain and Finishing Oil over medium to darker colours for extra added durability on high traffic areas such as kitchen cabinets, table tops or flooring.

INTRODUCING FUSION'S NEW CRACKLED TEXTURE

 

Looking for a way to create texture and depth in your piece? Well we have just the product for that! Introducing or NEW Crackled Texture. This base product creates cracks and crevasses on which you can add paint over top. It is best applied on a flat horizontal surface, as the product is self leveling. The thicker the application, the more defined the cracks will appear.

Supplies:

• Crackled Texture
• Brook
• Putty Knife and/or chip brush
• Liming Wax
• Scraper
• TSP Altenative
• Lint free rag
• Sanding pad
• Staalmeester Brush

 

Steps:

1. Prep your surface as you would to paint with Fusion. Use TSP Alternative to clean ,then give your piece a light sand and removing excess dust using a lint free rag.

 

2. Pour a generous amount of the Crackled Texture medium over your surface.  Spread with a putty knife or chip brush.  (Note:  The thicker the layer, the larger your crackling will be.  Thinner layers will result in small cracks). 

 

3. Allow to dry for 6-12 hours.

 

4. Paint over dried Crackled Texture with the colour of your choice.  We used the colour Brook and the Staalmeester Brush.

 

5. To add some nuances, you can add coloured wax.  We used Fusion’s Liming Wax on this piece. 

 

6. Then we distressed the painted Crackled door by scraping away some of the surface. This gives it an increased weathered look.

 

Then your piece is ready to stage and style for your space!

Mixing White

Oh, look at these new ink colors from Iron Orchid Designs.   You can use them on their own, and, guess what!  You’ll be able to MIX these inks to create even MORE colors!  And you can use the new 3-pack of IOD Custom Color Empty Ink Bottles to conduct the mixing.  So, let’s talk about IOD Ink Mixing, and, the “White Mixing Ink.”

IOD planned the palette so that a full range of color can be achieved with mixing. While the IOD Tomotto, IOD Turmeric and IOD China Blue (or maybe IOD Oceans Depp) are not truly primary (technically), IOD aimed to get close to primary for mixing range, but to be prettier on their own than true primary, so they are good standalone.

The inks are bright and saturated, because it’s easy to desaturate and lighten, but not the opposite. So, if you want a more muted color, you can add a drop of black, or, if you want to lighten it up, you can add the IOD Mixing White.  But, to mix IOD Décor Ink, you do not need any mixative, just mix the colors together. The IOD Mixing White is called that because it isn’t as opaque as a standalone white would be, as it was designed to lighten up other colors.  For example, if you want to make pink, you would use the IOD Tomotto Ink and the IOD Mixing White. You CAN use IOD Mixing White alone, but it’s a bit sheer, so just keep that in mind. If you have used blending white vs titanium white in acrylic artists paints, it’s kind of like that.

With summer coming to an end this month and the kids going back to school, we are gearing up for fall! This is a busy time of year; and life is getting back into a routine after the leisure that is summer. It can be hectic with many new beginnings such as school, work, or moving out on your own for the first time. That’s why September’s pallet features inviting warm fall paint colors so you can take a moment to relax and an enjoy your space. With so much happening this month it’s important to slow down and take moments for yourself.

Hello, everyone!  I finally got around to creating this 3-piece layette using all IOD - Iron Orchid Designs products. So easy, and so quick!

This would make a great baby shower gift, especially with it being so simple to personalize.

2. You'll earn 1 point for every $1 spent (not including shipping charges).

Hey, everyone!  Just wanted to share my latest project!

I found this old cabinet, painted or covered in some sort of brown paint / varnish - really no idea!  I did give a quick sanding, and cleaning, and then threw a couple of coats of Bin Shellac Primer because of the varnishy finish.  Let dry overnight.

I then painted with Pebble and Casement Fusion Mineral Paint, then rubbed on a full and a portion of a left over Iron Orchid Designs (IOD) Astoria Foliage paintable transfer, 2 pieces of IOD Classic Bouquet paintable transfer and the swag at the top is from IOD Winter's Song paintable decor transfer.

After the transfers were applied, I burnishes the transfer with a shop towel, and sealed with clear matte poly.   

I cleaned and reused the original hardware on the cabinet doors, but replaced the upper knobs with new, but similar, hardware!

Hi, everybody!

I've been getting some questions about my stock, shipping, etc.  I'll try to keep this short! :)

1.  In-Stock.  If a product does NOT have "Out of Stock" notice, then it is IN-STOCK, and ready to ship!  If you can add it to the cart, I actually have it on hand!  I don't offer a product for sale if I don't have it in stock and ready to go.  If the U.S. Post Office is still open, 99.99% of the time it will ship same day.  It is literally a 3 minute drive to my post office.

2.  USPS First Class Package Service.  As we all know, shipping is mostly based on weight.  With that said, most single IOD items, such as an individual IOD Stamp, or a single IOD Mould, or even one IOD Transfer, if ordered by themselves, can be shipped via the cheaper USPS First Class Package Service.  You will see that option during check-out.  Of course you can select Priority, and it may speed up delivery by a day or two.  But if you want to save a few dollars, select First Class Shipping.  Do keep in my that some IOD products are actually slightly heavier than their counterparts.

3.  USPS Priority Mail.  As I have it noted in the cart and during check-out, Priority, Priority Cubic, Priority Regional Rate, Priority Flat Rate (envelope or box) are ALL the exact same service and take the same amount of time.  In order to offer the LOWEST costing Priority Service, my web site pulls ALL the Priority Services and offers them to you.  PLEASE, SELECT THE CHEAPEST PRIORITY RATE LISTED. :).  There is no reason to select "Priority" if "Priority Cubic" is listed and it is cheaper.  It will go in the exact same USPS Priority box, and it will take the exact same amount of time to get from my post office to your house.
