Thanks to Servius for finding a stretch of missing games from the 1930s, mostly with Fordham, St. Mary’s and a few PAC 10 teams. Fortunately the line isn’t broker for long. Below are the missing games sandwiched by the existing games. As soon as I can work out the SQL math with the smart people we’ll have it posted.

We had Michigan State beating Ohio State 35-21 in 2003 when in fact it was the 2003 Michigan squad. The win gave Michigan the outright Big10 championship, the Perp, and the only win the Wolverines have had against their rivals in 8 years. Somewhere I’ve offended the college football gods and my penance will be to try and watch a Big 10 game all the way through.

We’re sure there are more corrections to come, and we have a liberal correction policy, so bring ‘em.

We disagreed a great deal with Myles Brand. Hell, there’s few positive things we can say about the guy other than he was a fellow philosophy major, but his impact on college football was undeniable.  He did what he thought was right, and that’s to be respected. We were at IU when he and Bob Knight had their famous spat and drank caucasians while we watched students steal fountains and generally run mad after Miles’ decision. Peace be with you Myles.

Troy State University has played the giant-killer before. They beat Mississippi State 21-9 in 2001, the first year they played Division I football,  stunned a #17 ranked Missouri team led by Hypesman hopeful Brad Smith at Quarterback in 2004, beat Oklahoma State in 2007 and have come close to beating LSU and Runner Up U (aka Ohio State University). So, we don’t expect them to back down when facing the Gators this Saturday. Do we expect them to win? We’re pessimists, so setting our expectations that high wouldn’t make much sense.

The Gators return one of the best defenses in the nation and an offense that can’t fail. Not because it’s a revolutionary , but because Tim Tebow pulls the trigger. The Trojans look to have a non-giant killer year, as they stumbled out of the gate with a loss to Bowling Green, a former haunt of Urban Meyer.

Mori likes a good party and nothing spells party like NCAA Football.

We’re already looking for a place to hide out in a couple weeks for the Ole Miss – Memphis game in the Liberty Bowl.
We’re into relaxing at the tailgate.

At a tailgate you got to be cooking. Cooking on what? A mid-90s z-car.

We haven’t made our decision yet on the car we’re most likely to take on the road this year to the Mississippi State game, but we know it needs to be apropos.

News comes late to Memphis, but we heard yesterday there might have been a 73-point line on the Florida – Charleston Southern game.

We’ve been waiting on a line like that since the last 70-point thrashing we saw in person.

It was 1997 and the same Florida Gators dropped 82 to Central Michigan’s 6.

Touchdowns were raining out of the sky. Our partner Carver and I were looking for an escape.

We found the only way out of the stadium we could.

Mori: [praying with tefillin] Baruch atah adonoi… I don’t know what the hell I’m saying.
Carver: what you doing?
Mori: I’m prayin’ to God we don’t kill ourselves gettin’ over this wall.

We made the wall and then wished we’d have taken the over on the line that day. Guess we helped make a payment on frat boy bookie’s new Jeep Cherokee.

We made it back to the Bull Gator parking lot to find the boys standing around the Gator-shaped grill to be ready with an extra plate.

Boys: Could I interest you in a free bacon cheeseburger?

Mori: Um, well, I thank you, gentile friend, for your generous offer of that… deliciously unkosher snack. I… sadly have to decline… for I already stuffed myself full of milk and meat products at a previous lunch engagement.

So a 74-point spread and the home-team boys looked pretty happy. Of course then tickets were only $40 per game, so almost two points per dollar is a good result. Nowadays tickets cost more than $50 game not including the booster money paid just to get a chance at the tickets.

Mori ain’t never gone get his black ass in those sweet booster seats, but if he did he’d want every game he watched to be a 70-point spread.

We’re getting old and the heart just can’t take the stress of a one-touchdown win on a 6.5-point line.

The way we figure it is this: We pay damn good money for the best team in America. If they ain’t blowing everybody out we ain’t getting our money’s worth.

In the end we’ll take the under on the line and hope we can find our way over the wall.

Mike Balogun, a little too old to be in the club

We’re a little confused over the Mike-Balogun-playing-pro-ball issue. Has no one noticed the guy is 26 years old? We stuck around college a few extra years getting our minor in Jewish Studies, but was still younger than Mike when we graduated. Dude’s still got another year to play, maybe.

What did he do for all those years he wasn’t playing for Oklahoma and before that Lackawanna?
Mori knows he could still run with boys down at the park when was 10 years older than everybody else, but being 7’2” don’t hurt.
And to think one old man calls in another old man on the deal. FSU goes out of its way to end Mike’s career. Guess Bobby hadn’t forgot about that National Title Oklahoma beat them for a few years ago.

We want to introduce a new PNC board-member and editor, Mori Arity. Mori was born underwater with $3 and cocktail trying to make it to the garden of eden. He fell short and made it as far as Memphis where he quickly adapted gold-plated Elvis shades to his 7′2″ frame claiming both Jewish and African heritage.  He, like all of us here at the PNC, loves college football for its rich tradition, electric atmosphere and eccentric personalities.
