Coco Martin talks about bonding with Dawn Zulueta in Milan

2012-03-03T21:12:00.000-08:00

During a recent press visit on the set of Walang Hanggan, Coco Martin shared how much he enjoyed shooting scenes in Milan together with his co-star Dawn Zulueta for almost two weeks. He was proud of the fact that many Filipinos there were happy to accommodate them and even gave them shopping money to boot.

“Ang swerte ko talaga dahil bukod sa kasama ako ni Ms. Dawn, first time kong nakarating sa Rome at Milan. Tapos habang nagsyu-shoot kami, halos lahat ng mga location namin e libre. Kasi ang mga kababayan natin doon, ang bait-bait sa amin. Sila pa mismo ang nagsasabing sa kanila kami magsyu-shooting,” he began.

The multi-awarded actor didn’t mind multitasking since there were limited crew who flew in with them. “Pakiramdam ko gumagawa kami ulit ng isang indie movie, kasi walang artista sa amin, walang director, lahat kami nagtatrabaho. Kami-kami lang ang nagbubuhat ng mga gamit, kaya ang saya-saya ng bonding. Tapos lahat kami magkakasundo. Kaya kahit sobrang hirap dahil naghahabol kami ng oras at location, worth it naman.”

The multi-awarded actor also took the chance to bond with Dawn who was one of his favorite actresses while growing up.

When asked to differentiate Dawn’s acting skills from that of Lorna Tolentino’s, whom he previously worked with in Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, Coco wisely stated, “Ang hirap pagkumparahin silang dalawa. Pareho silang maganda at magaling. Doon ako masuwerte kasi nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na makasama ko silang dalawa. Marami akong natutunan sa kanilang dalawa. Sabi ko nga, minsan sana, huwag lang akong malaglag, at makasabay man lang sa acting sa kanilang dalawa. Kasi kapag makakaeksena mo na silang dalawa, sa sobrang galing nila, matutulala ka talaga. Siyempre kinakabahan pa rin ako kasi lang taon pa lang naman ako sa industry.”

John Lloyd Cruz will do Butt Exposure

2012-03-03T06:03:00.000-08:00

As for doing butt exposure in future films, John Lloyd hesitated before saying yes, on the condition that it’s really needed in the script. “Kung kailangan. Kasi parang you wouldn’t do something for the sake of doing it. Kailangan mo ng tamang motivation para magawa mo ito. Otherwise, magmumukha siyang, ‘Bakit mo ginawa yun? Para saan? Anong sense?’ So yun ang gusto mong i-avoid. Ever since, ang treatment ko naman lagi, ‘pag hinihingi ng eksena, kailangan mo gawin, of course within certain boundaries.”

Men in the Philippines is a term referring to the male members of Filipino society, or men who belong or come from the Philippines, a country in South East Asia or the Far East. Role models

Based on the national survey presented by Gerardo Sandoval, Mahar Mangahas, and Linda Luz Guerrero at the 14th World Congress of Sociology in Montreal Canada on July 26 to August 1, 1998, Filipino male youth aged 15 to 30, revealed that their male role models are primarily their father (10%) and the Philippine national hero, Jose Rizal (24%) (Filipino female respondents regard their mothers as their female role models).

Participation in society

Despite efforts in the Philippines to advance the status of Philippine women, particularly in relation to occurrences of gender inequality, there was a move in ensuring equal contribution from both men and women in the economic, social, political, cultural, and environmental development of the Philippines. The aim, according to the 2001 to 2004 Framework Plan for Women (FPW) of the Philippine Plan for Gender and Development (PPGD) (which is a thirty-year plan) was to provide both genders "with equal conditions for realizing their full rights" in the country's development, and to improve the "awareness and capabilities" of both genders in participation, making decisions, powers, and control in such a development project.

Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines, is a role model of young Filipino men.

Population

According to the CIA World Fact Book, which was based on a July 2001 census estimation, there were 15,547,712 Filipino males within the 0–14 years old bracket, 24,374,849 Filipino males within the 15-64 yearls old age range, and 1,355,046 Filipino males belonging to the 65 years and older age group.

Family size

Based on the data gathered by NDHS in 2003, there were 22% of Filipino husbands who prefer having a large family or who wants to have a high number of offspring. This result of the survey were dependent "socio-demographic characteristics" which includes the men's age (plus age at marriage), education, employment status, poverty status, familial characteristics, duration of marriage, the number of living children.

Sam Milby: The Sky's the Limit

2012-03-02T07:37:00.001-08:00

Sam Milby may just have what it takes to make it big in Hollywood. So what does motocross have to do with that? The answer: Everything here's how to rev up your courage to take the lead in life and stay there.

January 2012 Men's Health magazine's cover is no other than Sam Milby.

You're not alone in thinking that motocross and celebrities aren't that perfect mix. Motocross racers fearlessly face the challenges of the track, despite knowing that one tiny miscalculation can turn into a big, and even costly, mistake. Celebrities have too much at stake to risk such a stunt and singer-actor Sam Milby definitely agrees with that. "It's probably one of the worst sport to get in to, if [acting] is your job. When something happens to you, eh di wala ka ng trabaho, di ba?" he says earnestly. But ironically, he offers a simple explanation why he's an exception to the notion. "I'm an adrenalin-rush kind of person," says the 27-year old almost instinctively. As far as Milby's concerned, that's part of his moxie as a man.

Addicted to Sex

2012-03-02T03:42:00.000-08:00

It may sound funny, but for those whose lives are controlled by their insatiable desire for sex or love, it's anything but a laughing matter. If you or someone you care about is suffering, help is available. Read on.

Jim (not his real name) couldn't understand why anyone would want to be monogamous. As a 47-year-old divorcé who worked as a part-time bartender, he had sex with as many women and men as he pleased.

Then he fell in love with a young mother of two who was separated from her husband. She liked to party, and he was always jealous of anyone who came near her. He constantly kept tabs on where she was and who she was with. But no matter how much she consumed his thoughts, inside he felt empty. That's when he realized something was really wrong in his life.

At the urging of a therapist who was treating him for depression, Jim went to a meeting of Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous. "I thought I was going to walk in and see dirty old men with raincoats," he says. What he found, however, was an understanding community of people with similar troubles -- a diverse group "made up of priests, carpenters, 70-year-old men, 50-year-old women, housewives, career professionals, gays, straights, blacks, and whites."

Modeled after the Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step program, the organization currently hosts about 1,200 meetings around the world. Now in its 25th year, the group is one of a handful of nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping members recover from sex and love addiction.

"I've become a person," Jim says after years of membership in the program. "Before, I was always hiding, keeping secrets. Now I can be open and vulnerable."

A Brain Problem?

"Lust is an ancient problem," says a source who wishes to remain anonymous at another recovery group, Sexaholics Anonymous. She notes that sometimes children of broken families, who live in environments that feature molestation or affairs, may grow into adults who can't distinguish between what's acceptable and what's not. The problem can be made worse by the many sexual images in today's media.

The theories on why people self-destruct using sex and love run the gamut.

"People do it a lot of times to escape," says Jim.

Jim acted out his addiction by having multiple sex partners, and, ultimately, obsessing over a woman who was emotionally unavailable to him. Others derail their lives by frequently masturbating (sometimes as much as four or five times a day), having inappropriate fantasies or extramarital affairs, continually logging onto pornographic web sites on the Internet, or hurting themselves sexually with various objects.

Peter R. Martin, MD, a professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at the Vanderbilt Addiction Center in Nashville, Tenn., says the root causes of problems related to sex aren't known, just as there are still questions about how people become addicted to drugs.

He says scientists are starting to believe it has something to do with how the brain processes our drives and that there may sometimes be problems with the "reward centers" of a person's brain.

Treating Obsessions

It's unclear how sexual addictions fit within the realm of mental illnesses, says Martin. Because of this, he prefers to call the disorder "problematic hypersexuality" rather than "sex addiction."

It's interesting, he adds, that a lot of problems in which the brain is obsessed with one activity -- whether it's sex, drugs, or alcohol -- tend to occur together.

Scientists are now studying medications that could possibly treat addiction to love and sex. In the meantime, doctors like Martin use psychotherapy and techniques used for treating other addictions to help people who have life-disrupting sexual thoughts and actions. This may involve prescribing drugs for problems that go along with it, like depression or anxiety.

Twelve-step programs use meetings and the sharing of stories to provide comfort for the troubled. The idea is that there are other people who are trying to deal with the same problems.

Jim says his salvation came through being in the company of people whose lives had also spun out of control.

Do You Need Help?

On its web site, the group Sexual Compulsives Anonymous lists some characteristics most of its members have in common:

They use compulsive sex as a drug, to escape from feelings like anxiety, loneliness, anger, and self-hatred, as well as joy.
They become immobilized by romantic obsessions. Becoming addicted to the search for sex and love makes them neglect their lives.
They try to bring intensity and excitement into their lives through sex, but feel themselves growing steadily emptier.
Even when they get the love of another person, it never seems enough, and they're unable to stop lusting after others.
They try to conceal their dependency demands, growing more isolated from themselves, from God, and from the very people they long to be close to.

For those still unsure of whether they have a problem with sex and love addiction, Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous has drawn up 40 questions for self-diagnosis, including:

Have you ever tried to control how much sex to have or how often you would see someone?
Do you get "high" from sex and/or romance? Do you crash?
Do you believe that sex and/or a relationship will make your life bearable?
Have you lost count of the number of sexual partners you've had?
Have you had a serious relationship threatened or destroyed because of an affair?
Are you unable to concentrate on other areas of your life because of thoughts or feelings you are having about another person or about sex?

Survivor Philippines Celebrity Doubles Showdown castaway Ellen Adarna is the cover girl of the January 2012 issue of FHM Philippines magazine.

Here, perhaps, is the missing lucky piece that the Occupy Movement of 2011 didn't know it needed. Why? Because Ellen Adarna has done all that, perhaps even more, before and has succeeded. She's occupied pretty much everything from your subconscious to your waking life; all across Cebu, down to the deep recesses of the Internet, up North to Manila, bursting forth and occupying mainstream media.

With this second apperance in FHM, Ellen Adarna is at it again. And just like most everything, her Occupy Everything plan is... to not have a plan. Her plan involves taking flight, having fun, brushing aside worries, not caring, and looking for more places and spaces she can occupy still.

Perhaps they have a thing or two to learn from this 23-year-old Cebuana...
