But just as quick as franchises turn around and hire the right personnel, they can also hire the wrong person and set themselves for a horrifying year. Last year saw both these scenarios play out. The Oakland Raiders hired Dennis Allen as their new head coach but the team could only muster a 4-12 record, while the Indianapolis Colts hired Chuck Pagano and ended up with a 11-5 record and a playoff berth. Chuck Pagano might’ve missed most of the season while battling cancer, but the inspiration he brought to the team helped make that 11-5 record a possibility.
There were 5 coaching changes last year including these two. Miami Dolphins hired Joe Philbin, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired Greg Schiano, and the Saint Louis Rams hired Jeff Fischer. Coincidentally all three teams won 7 games, certainly headed in the right direction. This year however, we have 8 total changes being made. Some more peculiar than others, like a winning team making a change, and a coach from the CFL getting a head coaching position.

1. Chip Kelly – Philadelphia Eagles (4-12)

A very successful coach in the university of Oregon, Chip Kelly fit in perfectly in that organization. So when rumors about his possible departure to the NFL arose, nobody truly believed them. He rejected a offers from Buffalo and Cleveland before surprisingly accepting a move to the Philadelphia Eagles. Ironically though, the team does fit his system. Both Lesean Mccoy and Michael Vick eerily resemble Lamichael James and Marcus Marriota, two of his most recent team leaders. A dangerous speedy threat in Desean Jackson who resembles this years top Oregon threat De’Anthony Thomas. It feels like a match made in heaven. There are of course some variables, like, is Michael Vick actually going to be the starting quarterback and such, regardless, seems like a great fit. Chip Kelly has a 46-7 record during his 4 years in Oregon, 2 bowl wins (Rose bowl and Fiesta Bowl) and a handful of awards. Will it work? He certainly doesn’t have much to work with in Philadelphia, but he just might surprise people.

2. Andy Reid – Kansas City Chiefs (2-14)

Well this certainly isn’t a fresh new face in the NFL world. Reid could never get any consistency out of the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Chiefs are a different team. Yes a 2-14 team, but maybe the best 2 win team to be the new coach of. The chiefs didn’t have their star Jamaal Charles in 2011, and lost quarterback Matt Cassel to injury and lack of production as well as key players like Eric Berry, and Moeaki in 2012. But now 2013 looks like a whole new team. Revamped. Healthy. Ready to go. New coach, quarterback, linemen, defensive backs, receivers. Alex Smith is sure to bring consistency at the quarterback position, while Charles provides a great run game as a re-established premier running back. Dwayne Bowe will be happy to have good teammates around him, and the defensive side gained cornerbacks Sean Smith and Dunta Robinson. Not to mention the Chiefs had the #1 overall selection in the draft, which they used on OT Eric Fisher. A lot of great additions for Andy Reid who has had a superbowl appearance in his career as a head coach, and for the Chiefs who looked to have a promising future after 2010. Took long for them, but this might be a year they surprise everyone.

3. Marc Trestman – Chicago Bears (10-6)

I know exactly what everyone is thinking. Who? and that is exactly the right question. Marc Trestman was the head coach of the Montreal Allouettes in the Canadian Football League for the last 5 years. Led them to 2 straight championships(09-10) and earned a coach of the year award in 2009. Trestman ended his CFL career with a 59-31 record and 4 division titles. And now he takes over one of the top teams in the NFL. This isn’t his first stint in the NFL though. He has been with others like the Vikings and Browns among others, most recently with the Miami Dolphins in 2004. So now the Chicago Bears finally give him a promising job. A 10-6 team that managed to get a tad more solid this offseason. The Bears are a great team, so why not replace Lovie Smith with a more established coach? Well, for one, Trestman is very respected in the scouting world. He has excelled as a running back coach in the NFL and training many quarterbacks leading up to the NFL Draft. He is well respected, very skilled, and a proven winner. Lets see what he can do with one of the biggest franchises in the NFL. Lots of eyes are going to be on this guy, I think this idea of a CFL coach in the NFL is so crazy, it just might work.

4. Bruce Arians – Arizona Cardinals (5-11)

This is a very interesting hire that might just turn out the wrong way. The Arizona Cardinals are incredible on paper. Larry Fitzgerald as their leader, new potent though old quarterback Carson Palmer, Rashard Mendenhall at running back, and Patrick Peterson together with Calais Campbell and Daryl Washington manning the 5th best passing defense. Put forth the additions of Yeremiah Bell and Antoine Cason with the drafting of Kevin Minter and Tyrann Mathieu and you have a complete defense to go with a dangerous offense. So on paper, this team can accomplish a lot, but is Bruce Arians the right coach for the team? Arians enjoyed an impressive 9-3 run with the Indianapolis Colts last season during Chuck Pagano’s absence due to cancer, but how much of that run has to do with Arian’s style of coaching? He has been in the NFL since 1988. He climbed from running back coach, to wide receiver coach, to impressive offensive coordinator, and finally AP NFL coach of the year.

5. Mike McCoy – San Diego Chargers (7-9)

McCoy is just what a player like Philip Rivers needs right now. A hell of a quarterbacks coach and an outstanding offensive strategist, McCoy was definitely one of the best available coaches in this years market. Mccoy did a great job as offensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos, but with Peyton Manning in total control of that offense, McCoy’s talents as a coach were being wasted. Now McCoy is back in command and with a tough task, get Rivers to the dominant player he once was. It is certainly possible for McCoy, with the system he brings to San Diego, to turn the Bolts into a dangerous offense. Out of every coach available, the one with the best qualifications to turn Rivers into a prominent quarterback like he once was, and the one that could turn Ryan Matthews into the player we all expected him to become, is undoubtedly Mike McCoy.

6. Doug Marrone – Buffalo Bills (6-10)

What a nightmare situation for any coach to take. But a job is a job. Mario Williams wasn’t as dominating as the Bills thought he’d be, RB Fred Jackson keeps dealing with injuries, and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was abysmal. So now the Bills look awful, they are clearly not heading in the right direction. Doug Marrone comes from Syracuse. A small football program but a good one. A very energetic coach and a smart strategist, Marrone has his work cut out for him. He took the Syracuse Orange from a 3 win team to a 8 win team, and led them to victories in 2 Pinstripe Bowls. He brought his Offensive coordinator from Syracuse with him so at least something in this team will seem comfortable to him. Can he improve the team, certainly, there is no way to get worse, can he do it quickly? well I don’t think he is a miracle maker, so no.

7. Gus Bradley – Jacksonville Jaguars (4-12)

Another nightmare team. Ranked in the bottom 5 in both offense and defense, so there is much to fix. Bradley can at least make something in the defense change. We all saw the level of greatness Bradley can achieve, with the way the Seattle Seahawks dominated that side of the ball last season. As the defensive coordinator, the Seahawks asserted themselves as one of the most dominant teams in the league. Now, Bradley finds himself in a team with few talent to improve, but a handful of nice pieces that could turn into leaders. With Justin Blackmon suspended for the first 4 games, Maurice Jones-Drew back and healthy is the only bright spot on the team. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert needs to prove himself as this might be his last year being conssidered as a starter. On the defensive side, rookie Jonathan Cyprien brings a lot of talent and promise, but besides Paul Posluszny, Bradley will need to do a lot of coaching. I don’t know how much better the Jaguars can get, but if I have to make a bet on something, it is that Bradley will make the Jaguars defense better than a bottom 5 defense.

8. Rob Chudzinski – Cleveland Browns (5-11)

This isn’t as bad a position as it would have sounded 2-3 years ago. The Cleveland Browns need a lot of work its true, but there no more promising team than the Browns. Incredible young offensive talent in RB Trent Richardson and WR Josh Gordon gives a lot of hope for the offense. Having wide receivers Greg Little and newly acquired Davone Bess will help the team out a lot, there is just not much they can do with a 30 year old sophomore quarterback. You also have problems when your best player is Joe Thomas, an offensive tackle. At least he is the best tackle in the game. On the defensive side you have young cornerbacks Joe Haden and Buster Skrine with elite underrated defender D’Qwell Jackson leading defense. Add to them new additions Desmond Bryant and Paul Kruger and dominant rookie prospect Barkevious Mingo and you have a pretty promising team. All Chudzinski has to do is turn Brandon Weeden into a better quarterback. Less mistakes at least should give more opportunities for others to make plays. I know normally we try not to compare teams from different sports, but the Cleveland Browns can become the Oklahoma City Thunder of football. Patiently waiting for their time, and drafting pretty well looking forward to the future. They are only a quarterback away from bringing the Cleveland Browns back to legitimacy. Or at least it would be easier to take them seriously.
The way he could spin to the outside or inside when rushing quarterbacks confused defenses, and even opened spots for his teammates to pressure the quarterback was amazing. Even when linemen thought they had contained him, he would spin so low to the ground that it was extremely hard to get your hands on him. It was an amazing display of skills to watch and it is hard to imagine another player making one sole move as deadly as Freeney made his. Even when you knew it was coming, you couldn’t stop it, Offensive linemen had to hope their quarterback was smart enough to get rid of the ball as quickly as they could before #93 would come for them. Old or not, Freeney can still be a force.

The Chargers have signed Dwight Freeney to a 2 year, $8.5 million. It pays $5.25 million on his first year and $3.25 million on his second year which gives him just a bit over what Osi Umenyiora got from the Atlanta Falcons. Not only that, Freeney’s contract has a maximum value of $13.35 million tied to sack bonuses which Freeney can certainly achieve considering his past achievements. The Chargers ranked 11th in the league in sacks and 15th in the league in total defense. Led by Corey Liuget with 7.5 sacks and Kendall Reyes with 5.5, Dwight Freeney should easily fit into the mix.

Dwight Freeney has a career 107.5 sacks and double digit sacks in 7 of his 11 years in the NFL. He needs only 2 sacks to tie for 20th on the all time sacks list. He also has 44 career forced fumbles which makes quite an experienced, smart and complete player. The San Diego Chargers should be incredibly content of having a player of his caliber join the team. His best days might be behind him, but Freeney is still able to scare defenses. He will have to do so more now after Melvin Ingram tore his ACL during practice, but the Chargers have some decent players that have been producing.

LB Rolando McClain signed a one year deal with the Ravens as they hoped he would provide some help to recover from the loss of 3 of their top 4 linebackers. MLB Terrell Suggs just lost another valuable asset to go along with Ray Lewis, Dannell Ellerbe and Paul Kruger. This one comes at an even bigger surprise than the other 3 and now leaves rookie MLB Arthur Brown a lot more pressure to contribute immediately.

McClain was the eight overall pick at the 2009 NFL draft. He is only 23 years old and should not even be considering retirement, but it seems he is heading there for the moment. Whether it is his constant run-ins with the law, or just a chance in mentality, those things can be changed. Specially the off field issues. He has been suspended by the team in some occasion, and arrested a couple of times, he has trials pending and court dates to attend, but all those things shouldn’t mean you can’t be a football player.

My guess is since his latest arrest, he is planning to take a year off, solve all those issues, and come back fresh. No way a 23 year old first round selection stays off football for that long when he was meant for it. Specially if a franchise like the Baltimore Ravens gave him the opportunity. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a comeback.

And if he is really that concerned about his off field issues, just think about what Titus Young is doing. If you are not getting arrested 5 times in 9 days for the dumbest things, then you are doing OK my friend.
A tough young team with a bright present and future. Gives them quite the leverage when trying to find the next best hidden player. They can sign undrafted free agents, give chances to late round draft picks, or apparently, sign Olympians who have never played the sport.

The San Francisco 49ers are giving British Olympian Lawrence Okoye a shot to join the roster and maybe make it in the NFL.

Lawrence Okoye made the Olympic discus throwing team for Britain at only 20 years old. Only 2 years after taking up the sport, mighty impressive. Can that translate into the NFL? Its actually quite intriguing.

Okoye has incredible physical abilities. He stands at 6’6″ and 304 pounds. Arm length of 34.5″ and is only 21 years old. Not to stop there, he has also great speed for his size, running the 40-yard dash in 4.78 seconds and a vertical of 35 inches. You can understand the intrigue in the 49ers organization. Not only is he a great discus thrower, Okoye is a former rugby player.

We know rugby isn’t football, but it is the closest thing to it, and Okoye was damn good at it. He showed brutal force and outstanding power. His tough physical attitude make him a perfect fit for the 49ers. Specially if he is going to have a lot of time to work on it, and the best help around to prepare him to play other more experienced players.

What should okoye play? Well it is not hard to think defensive tackle would be the perfect scenario. A big strong body like that with deceitful speed can really pay off if the right coaching can get it to him. It is still hard to believe a player can come from a different sport, totally oblivious to the rules and mechanics, and still make a good enough improvement to beat out these other kids who have not only played and practiced their whole life, but they have actually been seen and scouted by coaches.

Of course this will take time, but Okoye doesn’t have that much of it. After training camp begins he needs to make an impression, and he needs to do it fast so he can stay throughout all the roster cut outs. He has already showed he has much to learn but at least he is on the right track and the right team.
So how about some more bonding time before the season gets going.

Quarterback and leader of the Denver Broncos Peyton Manning invited the whole team to a baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and the New York Yankees. Eric Decker had a different idea in mind when Peyton mentioned they were all going to bond and have a good time at the baseball game. And poor right tackle Orlando Franklin never even saw it coming. During the 4th inning interview, the RT was attacked from behind by a crazy little white guy who couldn’t even get away at the end. Still though, Decker must have loved to be on the good side of a prank

After 16 seasons with the Buccaneers, Barber is calling it quits.

Defensive back Ronde Barber retires after playing 240 consecutive regular season games which is tied for the longest active streak in the league with London Fletcher. An astounding 48 career interceptions that led to 20 touchdowns, and incredible 1052 solo tackles that makes him proudest of all, and better than ever, a Superbowl championship. Quite a resume.

Barber would love to stay and play. He knows he still can. But the job just isn’t there for him. He has great relationships with GM Marc Dominik and coach Greg Schiano, and they both have told him that a bench role is in line for him if he wants it, but Barber doesn’t want that role. With the additions of Dashon Goldson from the 49ers and the trade for cornerback Darrelle Revis, Barber was the odd man out.

He knew his time was coming, he even encouraged the Buccaneers to start rebuilding and get fresh new faces for the future. All this leads to the big question. Is he a Hall of Famer? If you were talking purely on personality then hell yes. But hall of famers usually give a little more than Barber. It would be up to the voters for sure. Barber will now look ahead to get a career as an analyst just like his brother Tiki Barber did after his retirement.

All of them bad. And there is no end in sight. Whether it is his problematic attitude, or his stupid decision making, Young will find a way to get in trouble again.

This time however, he really raised the bar on how stupid things can get. And with the amount of crazy things that happen, that seems like a tough job.

At 12:01am Titus Young was arrested in Southern California for making an illegal left turn. After that, Titus was arrested for DUI and taking into custody, but later released. A bad mistake for a player known to get into problems outside the football field, but at least he was released without causing too big a commotion. And then he woke up…

That same day basically, at 2:22pm Young had a wild idea. He lost his car when he was arrested, so it was time to go get it back, his own way. The cops received a call from an impound employee after seeing a man climb over the fence. After arriving at the scene, the cops found out it was none other than Titus Young trying to steal back his own black mustang. Steal… his own car…Just pay for the god damn thing Titus!! He was later released on $5,000 bail.

2 arrests in a span of 15 hours. Combine that with punching his own teammate Louis Delmas during practice, and being sent home 3 times last year because of misconduct, this former 2nd round pick will have a tough chance getting back into football unless he gets some serious help…And maybe some better company to stop making these terrible decisions.

This year they went even farther. Maxim selected Manti Te’O's girlfriend Lennay Kekua as the 69th hottest girl. Kekua isn’t a cartoon character. She’s worst than that, she is not real. Yes, a non real person just made Maxim’s top 100.

Lennay Kekua turned out to be a fake person. Te’O was the victim of a hoax, “catfish”, is how its called. It means someone created a fake identity online just to meet and talk to other people. Poor guy, but not poor for her apparently.
