Relay cancelled, to be rescheduled

The Pike County Relay for Life was cancelled Saturday morning due to forecasts of lightening and thunderstorms throughout the day. Organizers will meet in the coming week and announce the new date for the annual event.

Reopening of auditorium set for May 17

The grand re-opening of the Pike County Auditorium will be held May 17 at 6 p.m. with performances by local students. The auditorium was closed December 2011 due to foundational issues, a leaking roof and general disrepair. The passage of the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax provided the funds to fully renovate the building.

Lady Pirates JV finish undefeated season

The Pike County junior varsity Lady Pirates soccer team completed their undefeated season with a 3-0 win over Lamar County. The Lady Pirates began their season with a tie against Harris County then went on to win the next nine games to finish out the season 9-0-1.

Prayer proposals continued

Pike County commissioners again discussed prayer in meetings at their Wednesday, May 8 meeting and continued the discussion to the next meeting as well. A letter was read which explained commissioner Carol Bass was absent due to a previous engagement that was made last year and could not be changed.

Pirates fall against St. Pius

The Pirates lost the first game against St. Pius in the Elite 8 playoffs, but came back in the second game against St. Pius, to win 4-1 in the 12th inning. The Pirates also fell to St. Pius 8-1 in the last game of the series Wednesday.

5th inning: St. Pius 1, Pirates 1.

6th inning: St. Pius 1, Pirates 1.

7th inning: St. Pius 1, Pirates 1.

8th inning: St. Pius 1, Pirates 1.

9th inning: St. Pius 1, Pirates 1.

10th inning: St. Pius 1, Pirates 1.

The Pike Pirates baseball team will play a doubleheader today, Tuesday, against St. Pius in the Elite 8 Baseball AAA State Playoffs. Game one will start at 4:30 p.m. and game two will start at 7 p.m. in Zebulon. Scoring from the game will be updated online at the end of each inning by the Pike County Journal Reporter and Greg Parrott.

1st inning: St. Pius 2, Pirates 0.

2nd inning: St. Pius 5, Pirates 0.

3rd inning: St. Pius 5, Pirates 0.

5th inning: St. Pius 6, Pirates 0.

6th inning: St. Pius 8, Pirates 0.

Shelly’s Blessings ride to benefit Relay
