Comfort Scarves Holiday Challenge

Let’s join Comfort Scarves - Southwestern Pennsylvania in their Holiday Project for the 11 shelters they serve. The Holiday Project provides handmade gifts for all residents including children of all ages. The items needed are scarves, hats, mittens, cowls, soft toys/animals, fleece scarves, fingerless mitts, fleece blankets and slippers. Also knit, sewn or crocheted items such as small balls or Frisbees suitable for a shelter. Teddy Bears are a great hit. Washcloths are always welcome. There are some patterns available on the web in unique shapes which would be great for the children. One thing that the little girls would love is jewelry - homemade bracelets for example. They would be adorable and sure to bring a big smile. Funky fashion scarves are especially popular at the shelters. Washable yarns are best. Barbara would like to have bright colors but not necessarily traditional Christmas colors. This Christmas project varies from what The Pink Slipper Project has been done in the past. Barbara’s shelters are fortunate to have organizations and people who provide gifts, toys, puzzles, books, candy, etc. for the children and Moms even a full Christmas dinner cooked especially for one shelter by a generous donor. This means everything we send is to be handmade in bright and cheerful colors. The deadline for mailing is Nov. 1, 2012 and items are to be sent directly to Barbara. Sending items early will give her time to pack, mail or deliver the hundreds of items she’ll receive from her group and from Pink Slipper. Thank you for your help with the Holiday Project. We know that for every gift that is opened on Christmas Day, there will be a happy smile.

We have a new challenge! The Pay It Forward Donation-Project would like to have a present for the women and children in the Southern Wisconsin YWCA in Janesville, WI. They could use some help with slippers for the women and children. The YWCA provides a protective shelter for battered women and children in Janesville, WI. Rya Dary, the founder of PayIt Forward says some residents have almost nothing and all gifts would be welcomed. Rya will wrap each gift in Christmas paper so each woman or child will have a gift to open on Christmas Day. If you visit PayIt Forward Donation Project on Facebook (yes PayIt is one word and a capital I) you’ll see a complete description of the Janesville YWCA and the work it does for abused women and the community. Since slippers are our “specialty” here at The Pink Slipper Project, I said I’d ask our wonderful members if we could tell Rya and Aeris, Rya’s 4 year old daughter who helps with the donations, that we’d provide the last of the slippers needed for the Southern Wisconsin YWCA. Rya needs 15 ladies sizes and 20 children - 15 toddler (4-6”) and 5 kids (6-8”) sizes. She’d also love teddies and washcloths. Pledges would be wonderful so we’ll know we have enough. Rya would prefer her address be kept private so after you pledge, I’ll message you her address. Deadline for mailing is November 15, 2012 so Rya will have them before Thanksgiving and give her plenty of time to get everything wrapped and delivered before Christmas. Rya said on her Facebook page “giving one child or one Mom a handmade gift made with love.”

Even though The Pink Slipper Project is not back up to speed yet, we had a small challenge and our friends rushed to help fulfill it. Thank you all for your love and support! As always, I couldn't do this without you.

Rachel Terrill contributed 2 beautiful knit and crochet summer sweaters, 3 Onsies and 3 sweet little teddy bears. Thank you for your love and ongoing support Rachel. I don't know what we'd do without you! You've kept our Facebook community updated and during my medical leave.

Our dear friend Caludia Evans contributed: 2 beautiful crochet blankets, 2 pair of booties and two teddy bears! All adorable and perfect.

Thank you Dana Jonsgaard for your on going support. Not only did you contribute to 2 sweaters to this current challenge, but facecloths to future personal care packages for moms. You've been a good friend to the PSP.

Thank You Denise Lugo for your adorable contribution of 2 pair of crochet booties/slippers. We're so happy to have you a part of The Pink Slipper Project.

Thank you Sylvia Panella for your delightful contribution of 4 pair of slippers/booties. I believe these came sometime during my LOA but sure came in handy for this challenge!

Together we've met this challenge and I know that in the future we will meet many more.

Hi Friends, It's been a while since I've stopped by to say hello. Never a day goes by that I don't think of you all and our mission. As a matter of fact, I recently received an email asking for infant sweaters, bears and booties for several infants that are ill. I know that this is not exactly our mission, but helping in any way that we can, is really what we're all about. If this is something that you feel is in your heart to do, I'd love to step up and answer this call. I'm not ready to come back in a big way yet as I'm facing a second surgery... But would love to take on this small challenge. Are we up for this?

Ages: 6 - 9 Months
2 Girls and 1 Boy

One little girl is 7 months old and very ill. I will accept any contributions age appropriate for this baby. I'd like to send the mom a nice box of goodies.

Due to unforeseen medical circumstances, The Pink Slipper Project is temporarily putting the project on hold and taking an extended leave of absence. At this time, we are unsure when we will reopen. Please bookmark this page and check back often for updates about our return.

A note from the Owner and Founder of The Pink Slipper Project
As most of you are already aware, I have recently undergone major spinal surgery which has left me with unexpected repercussions, additional rehabilitation and further surgery. Effective immediately, the Pink Slipper Project will no longer be accepting donations or requests for services, as my recuperation demands my full efforts. Putting the project on hold was not an easy decision, and one that was put off making as long as we could in hopes that my recovery would take a turn for the better. I appreciate your continued support and the opportunity to work with all of you again in the near future.

The Holiday challenges were quite large and so many of you stepped up without question to not only make sure that they were all met, but that we had additional slippers and care kits for future challenges. I just want to assure each and every one of you that every single additional contribution to date had been donated to local shelters. My girls came in to town and along with my sister, delivered every last pair of slippers and care kits.

I wish that we’d been able to post a picture of each and every contribution these past 6 months. And along with my posting, my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you individually. However, my health just didn't allow it. Please know that I thank you from the bottom of my heart and wanted to share just a sampling of a few of the many contributions.

I’ve always wanted each and every volunteer to know how much I appreciate them and I hope that you all know that. Your friendship to the PSP helped us grow so much quicker and become so much more amazing than I ever imagined, and I believe that in the near future we’ll once again be strong and back to our mission.

In the meantime, Rachel will be able to answer questions for you if you post in facebook. I’ll also check in from time to time as I can.
