Fuhang Soymilk (Taipei, Taiwan)

Fuhang (Michelin Rated) was not on our list of places to go to Taipei but my sister asked me to look for it. On our last day in Taiwan we went to Fuhang Soy Milk in Zhongzheng District. We went there around 6am. When we arrived there was already a line starting at the Ground Level, going all the way to the 2nd Floor.

The Line was moving fast and in 25 Minutes it was our turn. As you go nearer the Counter you can see their Kitchen on the Left. You can watch how they make their breads (If you will take pictures, turn off the flash)

They have an English Menu located at a Stand so there is no problem in Ordering, just point to what you want. Though the Staff know some English.

We Ordered the following:

1. Signature Thick Bread $30TWD - As the name suggests, it was THICK. This is bread is both Savory and Sweet. It had Chives inside and was very Filling.

2. Egg Pancake $30TWD - This was DELICIOUS and was worth lining up for. If you want it yummier add a few drops of Light Soy Sauce and Chilli Sauce.

3. Cold Soy Milk $30TWD - I do not know how to tell if Soy Milk is Delicious but for me it tastes all the same.

4. Salty Soy $35TWD - Served in a Bowl and Hot. It was Good but not for me.

HOW TO GET TO FUHANG SOY MILK: We went to the Zhongzheng District Branch as it was the closest to us. To get there Hop On the MRT at TAIPEI MAIN STATION, Blue Line and get off at Shandao Temple. Take either Exit 5 or 3 and once you see a long line just line up there.

Punta Bulata Resort & Spa: Relaxing and Secluded Resort in Cauayan, Negros Occidental

How To Get There: The Punta Bulata Resort and Spa is located 170 plus Km from Bacolod City. It is a 3 hour trip by private car (you can rent a car at the airport or just ask the resort to pick you up) and a 5-6 hour trip by public transportation. If taking private transportation you will need to transfer to a tricycle to get you to the resort. From where you will go down it is 3km of Unpaved roads.

Check In At The Resort: Check In was Fast and Efficient. The Check In Ladies Suzette and Jimilla are both very friendly and warm.

The Room: The Room i got was the Beach Bungalow. This is a Stand Alone Building located at the Beach Front and just beside the restaurant. It is a Big Bungalow that has its own Screened terrace. the Bedroom is Big, first time to experience wherein the bed is on a raised platform. According to my friend it was the same way they slept in the province when they were small. The room is airconditioned, has 2 beds (a queen size and singe size bed), a Cabinet for clothes and a 24Inch LED TV with Cable. The room has no ref or Tea/Coffee making facilities making it the 2nd cheapest room at the resort but the best for me. The Bathroom meanwhile is Huge. Toilet has a bidet, there is a Hot and Cold Shower. Toiletries like Lotio, Shampoo, Soap and Toothbrush are provided. If you want to experience a Rustic sleeping accomodation then this is the one for you.

The Other Rooms: I got the chance to see the other rooms at Punta Bulata. The Hillside and Beach Casitas (The Most Expensive Rooms) are located a bit further away. They are more secluded and not good if you have persons who have a hard time walking in your group. The beach Cabana meanwhile is beachfront too and located beside the Restaurant also. I was supposed to upgrade to this but the additional payment for upgrading was a lot so just decided to stick with the Bungalow.

What To Do at Punta Bulata: There is a swimming pool located in front of the main building. They also have a Sauna but unfortunately it was under repair when i went there. They also have kayaks and i think scuba diving gear. They also have a Beach Volleyball Court located near the Casitas. In the afternoon you can just sit by the beach and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Wifi and Mobile Signal: The Resort has Wifi but it is Slow (As expected in these remote and secluded areas). Mobile signal for Smart is Virtually Non Existent but you can sometimes connect. They say Globe is the one with the best signal at the resort.

Other things to Do: A Stay at Punta Bulata would not be complete without booking a Tour to Danjugan Island. A Beautiful Island 20 minutes away by boat. The boat will just pick you up at the beach front, no need to go to another area.

Food: The food at the resort was good. The price was affordable too. But when ordering do order in Advance, like 1 hour or more in Advance so that you will not have to wait for a long time. If you order their Lechon Manok place your order even longer.

Service: The Staff at Punta Bulata were all Friendly and Warm. Just do not expect so much as this is not a 5star Resort wherein Staff are highly trained.

Everytime i go to the Sentosa Beaches I always go to Co Nut Ink for some Delicious Coconut Ice Cream. They have a shop in Palawan Beach and at Tanjong Beach. They also have other stalls or shops in Singapore.

You can choose from the 1. Classic (SGD5.50), 2. Premium Nuts and Fruits (SGD6.50) or 3. Premium Dessert (SGD 6.80). All Coconut Ice Cream are served in Husk and comes with a Cup of Coconut Water.

Palawan Beach (Sentosa Island, Singapore)

In Singapore if you are in need for some Vitamin Sea you do not need to travel far. Sentosa Island and its beaches are just a few minutes away.

From Vivo City you just need to go to the Sentosa Express. Hop on board the train and then go off Beach Station.

At Beach station you can choose from Siloso Beach, Tanjong or Palawan Beach. Just follow the signs to the beach of your choice.

All 3 Beaches are White Sand and Man Made. The Water is Clean and Clear and the beach is very clean. You will not see any wrappers or garbage.

You cannot go past the Line

Palawan Beach has a Suspension Bridge connecting it to an Island where you can go up the viewing deck. There are binoculars which you can use at the Viewing Deck to see the Islands. You need to Insert a $1 coin though.

At the beach there are a some Restaurants where you can go to if you get hungry. They also have a Coconut Ice Cream Shop there.

The other day we were supposed to eat at another restaurant along Lilac Street but when we arrived at the Restaurant it was still closed and so we ended up at the nearest restaurant we could find.

The Restaurant that caught my attention was Dapo at Tisa. Formerly an Old House and repurposed into a Restaurant. There were a lot of Diners at Dapo at Tisa when we arrived and that was good.

Staff were friendly at Dapo at Tisa. We were asked how many we were. We seated ourselved at a big table for 6 (we were just 3). The Menu of Dapo at Tisa looked like what i would usually eat at home.

There were so many choices. Since i was reducing my intake of meat i concentrated on the fish dishes. We ordered the following, Prichon, Sigarilyas, Adobong Hito sa Gata, grilled blue marlin, cucumber lemonade and Dapo Secret.

Our order arrived after a few minutes. The first to arrive was the prichon. It consisted of 7 pcs of Lechon wrapped in wrapper. It was delicious!! I wish i could have ordered more. This is a MUST order.

Next to arrive was the Sigarilyas. This too was delicious. The Sigarilyas was just cooked right. Just love how this dish tasted. All the other dishes served were also good.

Camiguin

Camiguin Island is located in Northern Mindanao. It is one of the smallest provinces in the Philippines.

How to Get to Camiguin

There are several options to get to Camiguin.

1. Via Cebu – Take a Cebu Pacific Flight from Mactan. Departing at 6am. Only 1 flight per day so have a plan b and c if flight gets cancelled. There are news that Cebu Pacific will be adding another flight to Camiguin.

2. Via Bohol – from Jagna there is a Ferry which goes to Camiguin though schedule is not daily.

3. Via Butuan – After exiting Butuan Airport you can wait for a BUS going to CDO along the Highway. Tell the Conductor that you will be going to Balingoan. Fare is 215 Pesos. Travel time is 2 1/2 Hours. From Balingoan port there is a ferry which goes to Benoni. Fare is P170 plus P2 (Not sure what it was for) and P15 Terminal Fee. There is a ferry every hour. Last trip at 430pm.

4. Via CDO – from Balingoan port also.

*Our flight to Camiguin was cancelled so i just asked our flight to be rerouted to Butuan. From Butuan Airport we walked to the Highway (Just across the Airport) and hailed a Bachelor Express bus bound for Cagayan de Oro. I just told conductor we will be going to Balingoan. Fare is P215 for the 2 hr 30 mins trip. You will be dropped off at the Terminal which is just a few mins walk (around 2 to 3). Buy your tickets there for Benoni.

How to Get to Palaui Island

1. Via Manila - Board a Bus going to Tuguegarao (Travel time 10-12 Hours). I recommend Victory Liner, the First Class Buses have bigger seats (Same as the ones going to Baguio/ only 27 Seats) and there is a toilet. You can buy your tickets from the Victory Liner website. Fare for First Class is P860. Aircon Fare is P647.

2. Via Manila - PAL or Cebu Pacific to Tuguegarao.

3. When in Tuguegarao, board a tricycle to where the Vans going to Sta Ana are or tell the tricycle driver to bring you to the Bus going to Sta Ana (we boarded Caltrans). Travel time is 3 to 3.5 Hours.

4. At the Sta Ana Bus Terminal/ Van Terminal board a Tricycle to San Vicente Port.

5. Go to the Port Office and book your Banca to Palaui Island.

Southern Leyte is often overlooked when one goes to Leyte but it boasts of Attractions which can rival the Attractions of well known provinces. One of those Attractions which Southern Leyte can boast of is Canigao Island which is located in Matalom.

How to Get to Canigao

1. From Tacloban's Daniel Romualdez Airport board a Jeepney or Taxi to Downtown. At downtown Tacloban go to Van Van's or go to Tacloban Terminal. Taxi will cost P250-300.

2. Board the Van going to Maasin City (Via BayBay). It will take 3.5 Hours to get to Matalom. The Van will stop at Baybay City for 20 Minutes before proceeding to Matalom / Maasin City.

3. Tell the Van Driver to drop you off at Matalom Plaza, Fare is P200.

4. At the Plaza the port going to Canigao is just nearby, it is just beside the Plaza. Just ask the Locals where it is.

Matalom Plaza, Port to Canigao is nearby. Just turn left and walk straight.

5. At the port pay for the entrance Fee to Canigao P40 and P65 for the boat. There is a Minimum of 25 passengers needed for the Boat to proceed to the Island. If it is a weekday, the 25 Minimum might not be met but you have the option to wait for more passengers or pay for the entire boat (25 passengers x 65).
6. It will take just 20 minutes to get to Canigao Island.

1. Rooms - There are only 2 Rooms in Canigao. Both are very Basic but they do have their own Bathroom, there is no Shower. Only Container and Pail. Each room has 2 Double Decker beds with linen and pillows. There is an Electric Fan. Do Not Expect anything Fancy, the Room we got had damaged doors. P1500 for Overnight Stay. Check Out at 9am.

2. Tent - If you did not bring your own Tent you can rent. I am not sure if you will still need to pay for the space. P200

There are NO Restaurants in Canigao. There are Small Stores which sell the basics like noodles, snacks, Canned Goods Etc. But there is a Market where you can buy FRESH Seafood at Very Cheap Prices and have them cooked for a Charge. Bring your own Containers, Plates and Utensils as they just make do with empty ice cream tubs as containers.

What To Do in Canigao

1. Sleep - the beach is always the perfect place for me to sleep. Get that needed rest while in Canigao.

2. Swim - Swim to your hearts content.

3. Play Volleyball

4. Snorkel - Just bring your own Equipment

5. Explore the Island

6. Eat - Eat your hearts content as the prices are very cheap.

Strawberry Picking at La Trinidad

The last time we went to La Trinidad we did not do the Strawberry Picking. When we went to La Presa they also had it but they said there were no more strawberries available for picking.

When you arrive at the Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad you will first be greeted by rows and rows of Souvenir Shops, Strawberry Ice Cream Sellers, Strawberry taho Vendors, Strawberry Sellers. The first to greet us upon getting out of the car were the Strawberry Ice Cream Vendors. I bought a cone for P25.00 and it was delicious.

And if you thought that was it, you are wrong. As you get nearer to the Strawberry Farm, more and more rows of Stalls will greet you. And this time more sellers of Strawberries, Strawberry Wine or Strawberry Jam. Just go inside the Strawberry fields and someone will surely approach you asking if you want to do Strawberry Picking.

We entered one of the Strawberry fields and a lady greeted us and asked us if we wanted to do Strawberry picking. We asked how much and she said it was P450 for 1 Kilo. We agreed and she led us to their Strawberry field. We were first taught how to properly cut the strawberry and then we were given a basket and scissors. Since there were 2 of us, we should divide the 1 kilo between us, so half and half kilo for each.

I thought Strawberry Picking was easy but i was wrong. It was back breaking and tiring. It was an experience anyone going to Baguio should experience.

The Strawberry farms are located in La Trinidad, Benguet. Just Type Strawberry Farms or Fields in Waze and you will be directed to the Farm/Fields.

Choco-Late de Batirol (Camp John Hay, Baguio City)

Since we did not avail of breakfast at the Hotel we went to Choco-Late de Batirol for Breakfast, It was still closed when we arrived, they open at 7:30am. The place is very nice, located just beside the Igorot Park, Choco-Late de Batirol's location is just perfect.

We ordered the following:

Vigan Longanisa - This was my order and this is delicious. Liked this a lot.

Tocino Kalabaw - This was my sister's order and she did not like it. She asked me to taste it and when i did it was just horrible. NEVER ORDER THIS.

Daing na Bangus - Got to taste this also. The Daing na Bangus was a bit itchy to the mouth but otherwise quite good.

Bibingka & Suman sa Lihiya - Both were not good. The Bibingka was just cake. It had no cheese or Salted Egg. The Suman sa Lihya was not good, it was not sticky. they probably did not use Malagkit.

and of course

Chocolate de Batirol - Perfect for Baguio weather but there are other Chocolate de Batirol much better.

Overall it was a So-So Breakfast. It was the Ambience which was the Best. Choco-Late de Batirol may rely on its Ambience to sell but they should try to change their food quality.

Rumah Sate at Ketchup Community (Baguio City)

On Our Last night in Baguio City we went to the Ketchup Community for Dinner. There were no more parking spaces when we arrived but there was an available space in front of Pizza Volante.

When we arrived at Ketchup, the place was teeming with People. We went to Canto but there was a line of people waiting to be seated so we went to the nearest food place which was Rumah Sate and there was a table available.

We ordered their Meat Group Sate (P999.00) which was a complete meal and included drinks. We also ordered a Bowl of Laksa to go with it.

Our order arrived in 10 minutes more or less. Our order the Meat Group Sate looked very impressive. It had a Rice tower in the Middle covered with a Banana Leaf cone. it had grilled meats like chicken and pork plus Pork Satay.

I really liked the food at Rumah Sate and will definitely be back if we go back to Baguio. Service was very good too.

The Ketchup Community is a Collection of Food Stalls. You can sit in one of the Restos and order from another Resto and have your order brought to where you are seated.

The Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay (Baguio City)

Location: Located along Orodonio Drive inside Camp John Hay. The Forest Lodge is beside the Manor and in front of the Mile Hi Center.

Check In: It was fast and efficient. We were at the Lodge earlier than Check In but we were already allowed inside the room.

Room: The room was Spacious and Carpeted. (The Staff Member upon Check Out said that rooms at the Forest Lodge were even bigger than the Manor) It had 2 Queen Beds with very comfortable mattresses and equally comfortable pillows. It had an Armchair with a Coffee Table. A Writing desk. a 32" Cable TV with DVD. A Mini Kitchen with a Mini Ref, Electric Kettle. and the part where i liked the most the Vanity Desk located infront of the Bathroom which was hidden from View. The Room also had a Big Balcony. There is also a Cabinet located beside the bathroom and there is a safe inside the Cabinet.

The Vanity Desk which is hidden from View from the Bedroom, Located in front of the Bathroom. I used it as a Work Desk. Outlets available.

Bathroom: Spacious too. the Bathroom had an Enclosed Shower. It had a Rain-shower with hot and cold water (Water Temperature maybe a bit tricky to control so proceed with caution). The Toilet had a Bidet. Dental Kit, Shampoo with Conditioner and Lotion were also provided.

Food: We never ate at the Lodge but from reviews i read it was good. Breakfast buffet can be availed at 450 for adults and 250 for kids.

Staff: The Staff at the Lodge are very friendly and courteous.

Check Out: Check Out was fast and efficient. the Staff Member, Joseph even asked me about our stay and to which i answered that we enjoyed our stay at the lodge.

Overall: A Better and Cheaper Alternative to the Manor.

Note: Request for a room at the 3rd or 4th floor as rooms on the 2nd can experience added noise coming from the Lobby and from the Kitchen which is located on the 2nd floor. Drivers Quarters are available on a 1st come 1st served basis so reserve a place ahead of time.

Quest Hotel (Cebu City)

My BFF Anita was the one who reccomended that i try Quest Hotel and she sure gave a Very Good Reccomendation.

Quest Hotel is a modern Hotel located just across Ayala Centre Cebu. Nearby, around and at its back are Restaurants. There is a bank nearby and laundry shops too.

Check In was fast, friendly and efficient. The room was clean, comfy and cool. Their Wifi was surprisingly fast and reliable (though there were times it will slow down but pick up speed again). The room was comparable to a 4 Star Hotel Room.

Pool located on the 7th Floor

Breakfast was Extensive. There was such a wide range of food available that i was surprised. More surprised to find Puto Bumbong (forget getting this) and Chocolate Batirol (Get this!) and Taho (their taho just does not taste like the ones bought from the streets).

Go to breakfast early, before 7am to beat the crowds. Despite having a lot of diners their service was Excellent.

Service was exemplary. Fast, efficient. From their security to Reception to Housekeeping.

Check Out was equally fast, efficient and reliable as the check in.

Overall Quest is a Top Place to stay in for business & pleasure.

Kuya J's (Tojong Street, Cebu City)

Overall, the food was very good. The kare-kare and scallops were very good. I liked the bagoong with the kare-kare a lot! Its the type of bagoong i like.

So far, i have not ordered anything from Kuya J's (first tried eating at their Sta Mesa branch) that i did not like. Their service is good too.

Zubuchon (Mactan Cebu Airport Branch)

Anthony Bourdain considers Zzubuchon the best pig ever. If you will eat Zubuchon at the Airport that statement you will not agree with that.

The lechon they serve at the airport is too oily. It tastes good but its far from the best.

I got their Boneless Lechon with Rice for 190.00 plus their Iced Citrus Lemon Tea (forgot if thats the right term for P75). I think it would be better to tastes Zubuchon at their branches outside the Airport where the lechon served is fresh.

Shrimp Bucket (UP Town Center, QC)

Last Sunday, after Centris we went to Shrimp Bucket in UP Town Center for lunch. The inside was full so we just got the tables outside. We bought their Salted Egg Shrimp, Mussels, Beef Short Ribs, Fish and Chips and Fried Squid. I was not able to get the names of the dishes but that is it more or less.

We were first served the fried squid. It was really delicious and will definitely order it again. The squid was very tender and it was really tasty. The dipping vinegar complemented the squid.

Next to be served were the Shrimps, Mussels, Beef Ribs and Fish and Chips.

The Beef ribs was very salty. Though the beef was tender, overall it was a dish not worth ordering.

The mussels were very good. They were presented in a plastic bag and buckets provided for the trash. The chorizo sauce was sinful. Crabmeat Fat was probably included and it was just sinful but delicious.

Next was the salted egg shrimps which were also served in a plastic bag. It was good but personally do not like it that much. The shrimp was fresh.

The food here is good. And Shrimps definitely should be ordered.

Pangasinan Day Trip

Last Wednesday we decided to take our Brand new Hyundai Grand Starex for a test drive and the lucky destination we chose, Pangasinan!

We left the house at 6am. We Paid toll of 45 at Balintawak Toll then we filled up our starex with Fuel at Petron. We then Paid 173 at Dau Toll. Paid 104 at TPLEX. Paid 164 at end of TPLEX.

We first Stopped at Sto Tomas Church in Pangasinan. The church was just located along the road. It was a bit far from the municipal hall.

After the Sto Tomas Church we then stopped at the Churches of Alcala and Bautista. It was my first time to see those 3 Churches. Next we visited a Church that is new to me, the Church of Bayambang.

After visiting the Church of Bayambang we stopped at a Supermarket in San Carlos to buy Bocayo. Afterwards i went to visit the Church of San Carlos.

Lunch was next at Lingayen. We stopped at a Restaurant we randomly saw. The restaurant was called Biggs. The food was good and cheap.

Next Stop was Alaminos. We went to the Wharf where the boats going to the Hundred Islands depart from. It was my first time to see the hundred islands (even though it was just from afar)

Next stop was the small town of Mabini. Took of their old church.

Last stop before heading home was Sual. Stopped at the dried fish stalls where we bought dried fish before. Also bought tupig.

Noodle King Pares & Mami House (La Loma, QC)

Yesterday, after we had step boards installed on our brand new Hyundai Grand Starex we stopped at Noodle King for Merienda. The last time we ate here was probably last year.

We ordered their beef pares. Eating beef pares transports me back to my college days where we will eat pares along Vito Cruz.

I really enjoyed the Beef Pares of Noodle King. The beef was very tasty and the rice really complemented the beef pares.

Yesterday, i went to Farinas Empanada to buy Empanada. I took a break from waiting at the bank. My number was 457 and the number they were calling when i left was just 200.

I got the Ultimate Empanada for 99 Pesos. Then also saw they have dinakdakan too, ordered that too for 130 plus rice. My buddy M ordered Miki.

The dinakdakan was so-so. The dinakdakan which our caretaker makes is much much better. The empanada was so so too. The miki according to M was a failure.

Jade Palace Restaurant (Pasig City)

This afternoon we went to Jade Palace for Merienda. We were just supposed to buy Pata Hamon for Mama but ended up eating there.

We ordered their Bola Bola Siopao, Hakaw, Beef Wanton Mami.

Now for the Review:

The siopao was over steamed. The siopao dough was too soft for me. The bola bola was good but i would have preffered it to have salted egg. Charlies has better Siopao.

The Hakaw's skin was rather over done just like the siopao dough. Though it was good.

The beef wanton meanwhile was a revelation. It was very tasty. The noodles were cooked just right too.

Overall it was a satisfying visit. Service was fast and efficient.

Tim Ho Wan (Megamall, Mandsluyong)

Yesterday Afternoon we went to Megamall to buy a Clothes Dryer at SM Appliance and when we passed by Tim Ho Wan there was no line so after buying the dryer we decided to eat there.

We informed the girl who was taking seat reservations that we were 3. She told us to wait. In a few minutes she asked us if we were complete. We said yes and asked the reason for this. She said they will only give the table to those physically present and if there was someone not present then you will have to wait for that person.

Anyway, we were seated and menus were already on the table (their placemat is the menu) and a checklist & pencil was there where we will put our order.

We got the following:

Baked Bun with BBQ Pork - Delicious hot buns with very tasty BBQ Pork filling. A definite must order.

Prawn Dumpling - very fresh tasting prawns. Delicious. Another must order.

Beef Ball with Bean Curd Skin - though it was good. I am not really a fan of beef ball.

Rice with Chicken Sausage and Mushroom - it was good but somehow i like the taste of Le Ching's Chicken Rice better than this. Or probably because the rice was not dry?

Pork Ribs Rice - again it was good but somehow did not really enjoy it like the chicken rice.

Tim Ho Wan serves good food but somehow my taste buds are not that comfortable with their food. If i would have to line up to get a table, forget it as there are other Dimsum Places you can go to without having to line up for a table. BTW, i do not like the Chilli Sauce of Tim Ho Wan. It just doesn't go well with Dim-sum for me.

Anyway, that is my opinion and we all do have different taste buds.

House of Minis (Glorietta, Makati)

Last thursday we went to Glorietta in Makati to pick up the plants i had reserved with Mamabels of Bacolod.

After paying for my plants we went to their Food Court (Called Food Choices) for a late lunch. I decided to go with House of Minis. I ordered their Regular Tbone Steak for 305 Pesos. I had it cooked well done.

After a few minutes my steak was out. It was served on a sizzling plate. Gravy was poured over it.

I enjoyed my steak. It was tender and tasty, the gravy was very good too. It complemented the steak.
