In "Fury Of The Furries", player assumes the control of a furry bouncy small ball creatures (LOL ?!). There were 4 types of this creatures, one with hadooken, one with the ability to swim (actually dive I think), one is like Spider-Man, and one can eat rocks. The game design consisted of puzzle oriented levels that we lose one ability and get another to do some tasks in order to reach the next level.

It was a brilliant puzzle platformer. "Why did I remember this game out of all others?" is a good question. Because I think, it would be an awesome port to smartphones such as Windows Phone or Android and stuff... Many games which are puzzle platformers on those appmarkets are so repetitive after some levels. This game was not! Since the developers and publishers port whatever they find these days, In my opinion this would be a really nice choice.

From Wikipedia I found out that the publisher and the developer is Kallisto Entertainment. Maybe some publisher can do this port, I hope?

Anyways Happy New Year!

Back in, if I remember correctly, 1991 my parents bought me 80x286. My journey into computing so began.

But this post is about anti-virus programs (what? They are called "programs" in the past). In 1991 and following 4 years I used F-Prot. It was so simple and clean. After exposing myself to Windows 95 in late 1995. I tried several anti-virus programs however never settled on any single one of them and this went on at least for a year. At some point I noticed I was so careful and never caught a virus since '94 (MS-DOS 6.21). Then again I used several programs till Windows 98 came out. With that upgrade I abandoned virus protection altogether. If I really needed a virus check in those early unprotected years (98-00), I emailed the file in question to myself and let yahoo or hotmail does the dirty work for me. Anyways this also went for at least 2 years till Windows 2000 came out. After then everything changed over a night.

Found this on the WEB, thanks to one who captured it =)

First of all; trojans came back. To me it was the only way to catch on harmful code. Other than that NT based OS was pretty clean and neat. In order to save myself from trojans and etc... I never run an executable file from anywhere except for official sites of well-known commercial sites.

Second, networking got better significantly. Well, we all know XP's 60 second reboot bug/virus (oh boi what a pandemic it was) prior to the time service pack 2, but I never caught that 'cause I always use up-to-date OS.

I still, today, do not use any kind of security application. Either I am lucky or my cautiousness is paying good. By the way, I own a Mac and a Windows 8 Developer Preview. However with a little bit caution I do not think my Mac or Windows 8 are in anyway danger. Of course it is only true for an up-to-date Lion and Windows with MS Security Essentials and default firewall.

What I don't understand is how come viruses were more threat than now back in early 90s without networking. Did we really exchange that much files with people via floppy disks? I don't think so. Even if I remember incorrectly, the ratio that I remember was horrible. Whenever I took some file from someone and scan it, F-Prot was like mad. Every-time. Strange but true. So I came to a conclusion that I remember incorrectly and ask around friends who is from different profiles and owned PCs back in those days. They all said one way or another the same thing, "we were not safe back then". So this my little poll proves that somehow, we were really exchanging that much executable file in the past. However there is still a chance that in fact viruses were so (maybe too) much common, we catch on easily.

I also must state that there are bluetooth viruses, harmful phishing page links etc for our smartphones. It is still dangerous out there but if you be so careful and do not to accept anything from an unknown connection (bluetooth or otherwise) or click on nothing you do not know, it is pretty easy to avoid PDA viruses as far as I concern.

What I really am paranoiac about is that phishing pages. If I click on something bad and give any kind of login information about any service to any phishing page, it is highly probable that I am going to get hacked sooner than I thought; so I try to be very careful about where I am surfing.

Anyways, what I am trying to say is that back in old days viruses are so easy to catch up but somehow so easy to get rid of and so less harmful. Nowadays is none of these are true sadly.

A little trivia about very very old days; "In February 1953, there was a total of 53 kilobytes of random access memory (RAM) on the planet."

I am just trying out Windows 8 leaked build on a Hyper-V VM of a 180 days trial version of MS Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Server.

Let me just show you some pictures...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 335px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FBsD4u5mTzk/TlaS5nyjhsI/AAAAAAAAAII/-NU21XHuIuE/s400/w8-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644860701586720450" />This one is the moments away from finishing the installation.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 335px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VM52AsKKvbQ/TlaS5-PlztI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/mcRoadKHges/s400/w8-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644860707614084818" />This is when I'm done with user and first use settings.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 199px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tm9D-98cF9k/TlaS5zDCsnI/AAAAAAAAAIY/nAmH6WC9XBg/s400/w8-3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644860704608662130" />I changed that wallpaper ("shh let's not leak our hard work" thingie) so you can read that text (build 7989 winmain thing and the disciplinary note), and my trial 2008 Server.

So, now I am gonna try to install Internet Explorer 10 Developer Preview. Strangely Windows 8 (Build 7989 Milestone 3) came with IE version 9. I understand that there is "Windows 7 Ultimate" text everywhere on this very early preview version, but why IE9? IE10 will most certainly be completed (and already released in some form) and bundled with Windows 8. So why not include the IE10 beta even now in this leak? May it be 'cause they want it (this Windows 8 version) as stable as possible, therefore avoid unnecessary beta utilities? It can't, because it is not supposed to leak?! or maybe... hmm.

A little surprise, by the way, came with Windows 8, IIS 8! There it is;

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_fxY25Rypco/TlaaKNPcDuI/AAAAAAAAAIg/bYTXS97Qm0A/s400/IIS8.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644868683099279074" />Click on it for full size image.

Internet Information Services version 8, in other saying IIS 8, is or will be ready with Windows 8 Family (server and desktop editions) and armed with something they called Smooth Streaming.

UPDATE: I tried IE 10 Platform Preview 2. It works very smooth and fast, I am impressed. Really, It was good.
WOW! Microsoft bought Skype for that amount. Dollars! Cash!

That's actually great, in my opinion. I mean now MS has a control of (select amount of) communication in nearly every handheld and all computers. Whether you use PSP or iPad, Android or Symbian, MacOSX or Linux you use a Microsoft Service. That's, however, ok for me. I like Microsoft products. I mean I have Mac Mini and iPhone but my only console is X Box 360 for instance and I use MS Office on Mac. What I am saying is, a widely used comm service such as Skype now belongs to Microsoft and that's too much power for a company like Microsoft but I am ok with it, and reading that people are also ok with it. No big deal? Right? Right. BUT 8.5 BILLION!? WOW I MEAN C'MON!!! 8.5!!! Eight point five! Billionzz!?

Anyways, very congratulations for MS and Skype...

Not only that as in automative it is also one of the biggest production giant factories. Approximately, it has a capacity to make a single car from zero on the assembly line every single minute. That's a quite impressive amount if you think it yearly... 60x24x365 cars...

Whether you know this little info or not, it is previously acknowledged that their annual endorsement is 2.2 billion Euro in 2007 (excuse me for having outdated info) and it is only rising from that point. Also, in the past ten years; they exported cars worth 6.7 billion Euro.

With those numbers kept in mind, one can clearly see the real value of the brand and of the factory itself. While working on windows, my primary choice is Internet Explorer of course; my secondary is Safari. While I am working or spending time on my home PC, which is a Mac, I use Safari as my primary and Opera as my secondary.

For Windows I use Safari for secondary because of I believe I must have same browsers on different platforms to accept something as, you know, baseline some-kind.

Ok, but why am I not using Opera as my second on the home PC so I still can have a baseline? Then again users who has and utilizes two browsers at the same time of course use their primaries more often. And if I use opera as baseline and the secondary at both environments, my usage will be small portioned (for Opera) and I will be missing the, you know, best of both worlds. They make organizations/events that makes people from various social communities very happy, so they talk and create contents about the client. I mean I guess they do what they do best and make possible for a brand on social networks to exist happily, to be well known.

Proximity Istanbul's expertises are:

Consumer Engagement Strategy & Planning

Social CRM & Social Media

Event Marketing

Digital Advertising

They call themselves "experiential marketing agency specializing in word-of-mouth generating campaigns". That's a very long description, but I must agree with this definition completely. Their events are so good every-time I sacrifice a weekend for them, I ended up very happy and feel worth-whiled. I find myself talking about the event itself to my friends, how fun it was and stuff. If it is not an event, then it is a very personalized gift, which again makes me smile for good amount of time. That is a success for its own-right if nothing-else...

I do not know about the measurable consumer return and other marketing data gathering, but I can easily tell the clients they are working with are happy to engage with consumers in such experimental events over and over again. That alone gives the hint.

Lastly, as far as I can gather from the www they are a part of very big global network actually, over 2000 employees all over the world. I don't know if this information anyhow relevant, but that also gives the hint for it. They are big. They are in lead.

I don't have much time for anything, except I am reading some Sci-Fi genre novels. Warhammer 40000, Halo, Star Wars are, of course, my favourites as always.

The thing is as soon as I got some more time I am going to begin painting some Warhammer Miniatures. I am craving for it but don't have time. This is mostly because this omnibus I read recently. The Omnibus they call because it includes 3 books and 2 short stories. Anyways; it was about this Character from Warhammer 40000-verse. Eisenhorn is a well read, well constructed, well backgrounded trilogy. Dan Abnett, indeed it is not my place to say, had done an awesome job. I liked it so much i am seriously considering reading it again in the near future. The book is about this inquisitor, Gregor Eisenhorn, who brings justice to the enemies of the Imperium. I know many of you, Warhammer Fans, are sick of Imperium and anything about Imperium (stories, games etc...). But believe me when I say this; this omnibus is something! I recommend it thoroughly. I am going to cut short this post as usual and will finish it with a quote from the book...

"In my lifetime, I have brought down nine marked Extremis Diabolus Hereticus. Microsoft has just released official MSN App for the iPhone. That's quite awesome, no really, it is a very good thing for MS to do.

BUT WHY IS MSN 8 FOR MAC STILL BETA?!?!?! and broken...?

We have tons of different solutions to use Live Accounts on iPhone. On Mac I cannot say it is true, at least for me. I was waiting for a decent version of MSN for Mac over 2 years now. MS only releases more and more irrelevant(*) apps on iPhone! That I do not understand, please Microsoft; first fix the main platform(**) which is Mac OS X not iOS...

(*): Bing, Seadragon, Tag (however I see a bright future for Tag, still; on iPhone, it is irrelevant in my humble opinion).

(**): Here is the link to the borked version of MSN for MAC 8, which is still in beta and has a lot of known issues... (if somehow it becomes released and gets completely fixed, I am probably not going to bother to edit this post. You can easily turn this machine a wiki server. With this mini guide and without any-cost; you'll have a very efficient web-server with PHP5 support / a Wiki / an SSH-Server. First things first, here's my configuration and my end-results before you lose time on reading this post.

** 3GB Memory (my experience tells me if you have only a single machine for everything you are going to do, memory is more important than CPU, well most of the cases)
** AMD Athlon X2 64 bit @ 2.0 GHz (my mainboard is the cheapest mainboard I could find with everything on-board (ECS))
** 16 GB SSD Disk (well in such systems IO is actually more important than CPU, again most of the cases, but this wiki-thing I am setting up is going to be used only by 5 or less people so IO for this will be no importance. If yours is going to be serve as a more serious manner, then please choose accordingly. I chose this way cause this machine will be in my study-room and I don't like that much computer sound (I even disabled the fans, it works ok))
** 64 bits Ubuntu with broadband Internet connection set and ready to go (yes, this part I am assuming you can do without this tiny-miny guide)

Guess we are ready to install the software; one last thing, a reminder: you have your root password or never set root user of Ubuntu right? Ok then, let's start.

1. From the Administration / Synaptic Package Manager choose the "repositories" from the main menu. Find the Preferred Server and make it to "Main Server" if it is not already set. (This will help the download process and finding the necessary software for our installation process)

2. Open up the Terminal and then type

sudo apt-get install apache2

This will install the Apache 2.2 Web Server

3. After that type this to install PHP 5 automatically to your Apache Web Server.

sudo apt-get install php5

4. Again type this in Terminal Window

sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5

This was already done when I did it but every other detailed guide I found says "do this just to be safe" so I am saying too.

5. Well installation process for the infrastructure part is done, I restarted my computer, and typed localhost in my browser and Apache's "It works" was there. But if you don't want to restart just type this to restart only you Apache. It'll take only a moment to do so...

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

6. Go to this address: http://pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/Download and download the latest version of PmWiki

7. Extract the compressed files to the location of /var/www/ of your Ubuntu... This directory is your home www of Apache.

8. As soon as you type the url of the wiki page you are going to see your HomeWikiServer. It's going to ask you a final creation of a directory and giving 777 to it, but this part I'll leave it to the Wiki Page Instructions. It is only 2 commands you are going to copy paste anyway.

9. There you have your Wiki now for SSH-Server to connect your server and access the logs and etc and control/administer it remotely.

sudo apt-get install openssh-server

There you have your SSH-server too, but let me remind you now you may want to reconsider your password strength and stuff, this is a nice little guide you can take a look.

sudo /etc/init.d/ssh stop
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start

Restart your Ubuntu just to be safe and you're done...

I assumed you have a very very basic understanding of Linux at least. I don't know if this will help anyone, but I tried anyway. Enjoy... Thanks for reading.

Guess what? There is no single achievement for the whole thing on X-Box Live! The overall quality was not as good as the previous expansions. I didn't get disappointed that much however. It was still the Force Unleashed action but, well could be 400 MS Points or so, at the moment it is 800. 800 is not much but to this particular mission pack it is a little bit much, I acknowledged.

Anyways... Until the sequel hits the stores I am guessing this will be the only tFU action we are going to get. I mean I don't think we are gonna get another expainsion for the first game. Maybe some more Avatar Tees or something like that, but that's all. Any new game content; I don't think. In fact that may be the last content ever for this game. We'll see.

Nowadays, it seems everbody is accepting the truth that Adobe's Flash is too slow to run on low power consumpted handheld devices. Or rather I say Apple's devices, yeah that sounds more appropriate (btw I am an iPhone user and excited about iPad). The thind I wonder most about is, well uhmm, is it true for Microsoft's Silverlight too?

I know for a fact that Adobe's optimizations are "file size" oriented. It is said that developers at Adobe are strictly dictated over patch sizes and new versions in about 3 digit byte levels. Also I know for another fact that Silverlight is CPU-wise optimized. So why not fully support Silverlight instead of so called slow Flash on Safari Mobile. At least we'll have an alternative, and that's better than nothing.

Over a night, things change. Today the video on internets may equal to Adobe's Flash. Tomorrow, if everything played nice by Microsoft, it could be Silverlight in my humble opinion.

I already bought it from Amazon and watched it twice. In fact I watched the 8th episode of it 3rd times already. It is, in one word, SPECTACULAR. I was amazed, and learnt many new things about Halo Universe...

The details are breathtaking. I haven't watched the special features disc yet, but soon will. I am pretty sure it will be very satisfactory too.

Anyways I recommend it to everyone from one who has no idea to the one who is already a Hard Core Halo Fan. A must have I must say.

Let me close this post with this quote:
"Don't make a girl a promise... Tam Yeri Tam Zamani... It means, well roughly, the right place, the right time. They have a new campaign/ad. It's called Hisseli Tatlar Kampanyasi.

What is so good that makes me write about it? Let me explain. This campaign comes with this site, which allows contestants to make their own virtual recipé according to their own likings. After that one can join the competition to vote more than the others to win a prize which is 10.000 Liras (approx. 6800 US dollars) and bonus gifts etc.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 382px; height: 341px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IU4QjQLEwVQ/S3HRe7cPjFI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/TLWmxD9psIw/s400/Screen+shot+2010-02-09+at+11.11.49+PM.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436356554495331410" />
The whole campaign is so addictive to see what others done so far and how are you doing in the competition, I liked it. I liked the idea, simple, creative and yet compelling to participate in. Moreover, it is stated that when one wins he/she will have a 1% gain from the sales of the new taste which she/he invented in the first place!

Pretty neat idea, I must say! They did almost always "above the average quality" games. But now things change I see, for inatance; I have an iPhone at the moment and every single gameloft branded game is not even average. They are way below average. I wonder what changed? Because I see many quiet awesome iPhone games that it is clear iPhone can be considered even a handheld gaming console. And knowing that Gameloft was a legend producer in my 'Series 60' years, one wonders.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 321px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IU4QjQLEwVQ/S0NEyMJVWgI/AAAAAAAAAE4/jmHK2sZPmxU/s400/img001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423254005328730626" />
However, again, one cannot claim that N.O.V.A. is a poor imitation of Halo. It is as good as any game can get on an iPhone. I accept it is a clone, but it is a well made well designed clone. Buy it, you will not be disappointed, although I will not say it may be a turn point for Gameloft or anything. They need more such games to earn the trust of, at least mine, of the wireless gamer community.

To me it is nothing. I wasn't any fan of the series. I played 3 or 4 of them and completed only 1 of them. I understand people love the series. The question is is it really still this way? Don't think so, 'cause most of my friends who is a die hard fan for FF series are not talking about this particular installment. Even Kotaku.COM has different Agenda I think... I was going to be excited no matter what, but nontheless it was a surprise and was a nice trailer afterall. Also one must admit Samuel L. Jackson is great at whatever he does. He announced the game in a very cool way... There is not much to tell at this point other than Lucasarts will develop the game internally.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 317px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IU4QjQLEwVQ/SyTp0CHG9TI/AAAAAAAAAEY/EHcV9bxCBzU/s400/Screen+shot+2009-12-13+at+6.47.29+AM.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414709732135335218" />Another exciting news for me was the in game demo trailer for Halo Reach! It sure looks handsomely awesome. There was a quote in it like "Spartans never die, they are just missing in action". That was a nice quote, motivating to do flagging @ XBL some more...
Conclusion is 2010 will be a great year for gamers. Batman Arkham Asylum 2, New Medal of Honor, tOR MMO, tFU, Halo Reach etc. etc. all comes in 2010. It'll be an interesting year for sure.
Anyways thanks to http://www.gametrailers.com/ for a great night and show.

I wonder if it is ever going to be unmanageable for both sides in the future. I mean the Apple, and the customer. Already, there are so many apps to choose from if you want a specific tool; say a twitter client. And the search is even today started to get messy. I am only guessing here; but I think soon the problems will begin to emerge due to high numbers. Besides I am hearing AppRejectPolicies are getting also out of hand...

And on the other hand, every other major mobile phone or platform company has a store now. To me which is even worse for a customer stand of point. For instance I bought a phone and a multi-platform app for this phone. Then I decided I hate this phone and bought a new one or return/change it etc. Now I have to buy that app again for the new platform. Such Apps are minority right now but I suspect there will be more in the future due to high demand. Apps should be one licence per person, not phone. This will make you customer very happy. Take my words for it 'cause now changing a phone is too easy. Thanks to uncontrollable competition in the market.

Besides, everyone must know by now, in this era copying something is not good enough to get a slice from the pie... You need to better the things a lil bit up for success. I don't see a point opening a store up with so little enhancements and overall quality? Are they doing it because of prestige issues? like "they have it, so must we!". That shouldn't be the way.

It's been such a long time since I wrote but a lot has changed. I begin to write at http://blog.starwars.gen.tr/ and it takes time, a lot of my time. You know I love Star Wars.

And now I noticed my attitude is somehow like Daring Fireball. Respect! :)

They made a card game about Madden. It'll be released in January sometime and unlike the Fifa counterpart; it will be completely free. I didn't play the Fifa version but I hear it is doing well. I am expecting something similar but easier if any possible. Free means, kids will have access, kids playing it means it must be so easy. Thanks to success of Magic the Gathering Online; my prediction is we'll see more of these...
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 380px; height: 208px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IU4QjQLEwVQ/SvHej-QOaLI/AAAAAAAAAD8/IkAJ-PgEM3k/s400/maddencardgame.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400342137781774514" />
It'll be downloadable within the full version of the game. Both games are finished. I am impressed with Clone Wars [by the way my X Box read it very problematically, disc may be flawed]. The game doesn't look that good but it is a Star Wars title nontheless and I loved it. The real deal is ODST however.

<img style="cursor:pointer; background-color:black; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 91px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IU4QjQLEwVQ/StIuiVU_MuI/AAAAAAAAADw/l2ycYkFv_O4/s400/logo.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5391422871291507426" />

I have seen only a handful of games over the last decade with that much beautiful storytelling. Action was in Halo standards but the story, enviroments, dialogs were very satisfactionary =p . Actors and the Actress plays an important role here but, even if there would no such names there, It would still be a good story. And if you stil don't know whom I am talkin about here goes nothing: Nathan Fillion and Tricia Helfer. After this there is nothing much I could tell more.

Actually it is not new but I recently got my hands on it. It stiches the photographs together and mimics that, uhmm like, you have a wide angle camera. Let's first see my 2 stitches...

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 110px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IU4QjQLEwVQ/Sq1NWWfe5QI/AAAAAAAAADY/s0CpfGTD2Us/s400/IMG_0232_stitch.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381042176167699714" />

And now the other one with less distinctive features;

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IU4QjQLEwVQ/Sq1Nihlx7JI/AAAAAAAAADg/UM_sq_QGNWk/s400/IMG_0256_stitch.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381042385305332882" />

As you can see, if the pictures' patterns are not too distinctive it does some error's but if they are distinctive enough, it works wonders. These all are taken with an iPhone. What if you had an actual camera and take the shots outside, not indoors?

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 195px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IU4QjQLEwVQ/Sq1PEQ6tWCI/AAAAAAAAADo/gFLc3yD0VTE/s400/Barn%5B4%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381044064456890402" />

You would have probably this... [This is not mine this, last one, is Microsoft's Demo]

What did I do? Nothing, all details are here and it is amazingly easy to use. http://windowslive.com/Connect/Post/4c24fc70-3ef4-4bee-8de2-68bea65227ee

You can click on the pictures for bigger versions.
