Meet NO! Punk Rock from San Antonio Texas

The name of the band is NO. Just N and O capitalized. We have a facebook page. Me (Mike) and the drummer (Roland) started jamming together in July 2012 with no particular sound in mind. The only thing I did want a certain way was the lyrics and that was to keep it simple and to the point similar to Minor Threat. Anyway, he comes from a more traditional punk background (Drink, Fight Thugs, The Deceased, Filthy And The Muff Divers) and I come from a mostly hardcore punk background (Squalor, Life Ends, Reisswolf, Kill The Peace) so it was sure to be hard and fast. We started looking for a singer and a bassist. We ended up getting my old bassist (Pepe) from a band I used to play drums in called the Good Tippers. Then, we finally decided on a singer that I used to have a project with Nick (Kruds, Discretions, Scumacide). Our first show was with Negative Approach which was both nice to play with such a big crowd and weird because we didn't feel like we earned it yet. We come from a background of working our way up and didn't want to use the draw from our old bands to get an advantage, but the promoter was a good friend of ours and everything went pretty good. Anyway, I write the songs and most of the lyrics. I just bring them to practice, we bang them out, and give it our all when we get to play. We recorded the demo at my home studio, Binary Studios, and plan to start recording again really soon. We hope to tour sometime in the future and will just continue putting together songs and building an audience. Thanks for the interest.

Knucklehead - West Philly Oi - Untitled EP 2013 - Self Release.

Knucklehead are from Philly. A town that loves to drink and it makes sense so does Knucklehead.
Their EP is 6 songs full of drinking and debauchery. TOTAL debauchery.

Knucklehead are skinheads and from the working class as evident by the chorus in "Perseverance".
The first track is in my opinion totally misleading. Not saying that the track isn't good I'm just saying the tracks get tons better.

In "We're Alright" they bring up the fact skinheads their skinhead roots and declare they will win the fight. (What fight is not clear) However they seem to just want to drink all night in the meantime.

Their song "My Friends" talk about how friends are family and how they stick up for each other.
The song "Paradise" is a typical night out drinking at your favorite bar.
"Tough Shit" is obviously a I don't care if you are pissed get out of my face type of song.
Finally "Fuck The Pub" is about well the singers distaste for pubs and love of bars.

I know Knucklehead isn't for everybody, hell nothing is but, if you like a good drink (where you end up drunk and wonder what you did last night) this might just be worth a listen or two.

Murdered In A Record Shop - We Will Rise - 2013 - Self Release

Murdered In A Record shop was born out of Tommy Patton's desire one day to do something for himself; not for a label or anyone else. The result is something truly inspiring.
Murdered In A Record Shop's influences are The Casualties and The Distillers.
Once you hear MARS you'll get the influences REAL quick.

The first track "Juanna" comes roaring out of your speakers or (in my case) headphones.
From the first second to the last MIARS doesn't let up. You are in for a ride and they don't care if you are ready or not.

The stand out track in my opinion is "Coward" it isn't something I expected to hear from them. The growls to the clean singing caught me off guard and I raped that replay button.

The title track "We Will Rise" is awesome as well "We will rise we will fall we will stand forever on our own". Good mantra.

"Show The World" is the best lyrics I've heard in a song of a cd I've reviewed so far. "We'll march through the doors waving our guns showing the world what they have done". But, that's just a sample of the lyrically goodness that lurks inside that song.

Finally "Write Me Off" is a tale of a friendship gone bad.

So if you want something exciting invading your earholes pick up Murdered In A Record Shop We Will Rise.

During the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, two pressure cooker bombs exploded, killing 3 people and injuring 264. This compilation is dedicated to the 264 wounded and to the memory of:

Sean A. Collier, 26 (killed in gunfire with suspects)

This international compilation was put together entirely online. A single post went from an idea to reality within minutes. The first day alone over 40 track submissions were received. DIY is alive and well, and PUNK AID has proven yet again that punk rock is a driving force that can have a positive impact on the world.

This is the punk rock scene’s dedication to one of America’s most beloved cities, and to one of the best cities in the world – Boston. All proceeds of this compilation will be donated to the Boston Marathon victims and their families.

THE COMPILATION:

Why is this a digital compilation? Will there be a CD version?

The production costs would be very expensive to produce a CD version with this many bands. The whole idea of this compilation is to maximize proceeds, and donate as much possible to the Boston Marathon victims and their families. In order to keep costs down as much as possible, this compilation will be a digital download only compilation. The compilation comes with a beautiful booklet in .pdf format which can be easily printed if desired.

Secular Plague - Self Titled - 2012 - Zorch Factory Records

Secular Plague is a hardcore band from France that is headed by Sapphire former bassist for the French death rock band Sleeping Children. Sapphire did all the instruments and vocals for this album he also wrote the lyrics.

You can tell Sapphire knows the world is in a state of decay with lyrics in the song "Heal" like "Heal me heal me heal my mind" and the song "Violent World" "Violent world that we create violent world filled with hate" at least that's my take. In "The One To Blame" he says "Why must I believe what the people say?" Then he tackles the validity of actual teaching of children at schools in "School Propaganda". Secular Plague comes out swinging for the fences in this debut album. I think we're
gonna hear about them for a long time.

Secular Plague - Death For Sale - Flehmen, Realicide, & Zorch Factory - 2013

Secular Plague is a French hardcore/death rock band from Paris, France but now calling Belgium home.
Secular Plague began in 2012 as a one man venture created by Saphire, former bassist for the Parisian death rock band Sleeping Children (2003-2005). Saphire wrote and performed all the instruments on Secular Plague's first album a self titled 12 track released on CD format through Fleman Records and digitally via Zorch Factory Records that was very well received and quickly sold over 500 copies. Saphire enlisted the help of Randy on guitar and Dick on drums and they quickly set about recording this new album titled Death For Sale. The first track, the title track, shows us this band has heavy influences from punk and hardcore greats such as T.S.O.L, Rudimentary Peni, Circle Jerks, as well as D.I. Randy's fast, fuzzy guitars follow Saph's commanding bass and Dick's drumming pulls it all together into a tidy package that I enjoy listening to.
Death For Sale explores topics such as freedom, social norms, consumption, and animal rights and does so in a fast paced aggressive manner; these songs don't sit idly in the background of your day to day routine, they demand your respect and they very damn well earn it in short time.

All in all this is a pretty damn good album, the vocals darkly echo over the guitars (i fucking love the guitars here), bass and drums. I'd like to catch these kids live but not sure if they have plans on an American tour any time soon. They are however about debut on stage during the Unpleasant Meeting Festival which will take place in Paris (France) on May 11, 2013.
They will be sharing the stage with LOTS of great anarcho, punk and batcave bands.

Bomb City, 2013… Fighting Red State prejudice and championing free speech, Violent Affair has been stoking the flames of rebellion since 2009. These Oklahoma Street Punks prove that real, unadulterated punk rock is still thriving in the heartland. This 5 piece faction of seasoned musicians consists of former members of The Rippers, The Violence, The Costellos and many more. Violent Affair is Dave on lead vocals, Jesse on 1st guitar, Domenic on 2nd guitar, Zach on bass, and Ryan on drums. The band debuted their self released E.P entitled Armageddon in 2009, and were quickly scooped up by German label Razorblade, who subsequently released the bands debut full length “Stand Trial” in 2010. At a time when spiky jacketed, mohawked punk rock was becoming a dying breed, Violent Affair stepped up to the challenge of carrying on the torch and sold over 3000 copies of “Stand Trial” (mostly in Germany alone). ALBUM REVIEW

The Exit, sadly, is I feel a good band but, I never heard of them before. As this is my first album review I am sad to report that I feel this will not be a good showing of what I can do. However I hope you'll bear with me people. (Please?)

Track 1 "Do Not Mazz, You Make Me Pissed"
As with most songs on this album they are under a minute. Most in my opinion are pretty good some like this song I don't like all that much. It starts off with that nice old punk intro and the lyrics are sorta lost in the noise. I don't get the words so I don't get the message they sound angry but, as we all know just because you sound angry doesn't mean your message is angry. Let's hope the next song is better. (Hint it is)

Track 2 "Ignore The Pressure"
The song starts with a very positive message told in countless songs "Ignore the pressure think for yourself". I love the way the guitar screeches midway through the song. It reminds me of a cool surf rock riff. Finally near the end it says "1, 2, FUCK YOU!" to the people who give in to peer pressure.

Track 3 "We Go All The Way To Nebraska"
Typical I hate this town I was raised in song. Except The Exit makes this song type feel fresh and exciting. My only bad take from this song is I wanted it to be longer.

Track 4 "The Exit"
You know how I was saying I didn't like some songs guess what? This is one of them. 14 seconds long that's it. Again you can't really hear the words all that well atleast I can't it.

Track 5 "Alkolås"
Possibly my favorite track off the album basically people who drink are fucking themselves. "You fuck yourselves bitch you fuck yourself". As a straight edge guy who spent many hours in high school jamming to the complete discography of Minor Threat on loop on my Walkman you can probably assume I like this.

Track 6 "Synthesize"
9 seconds of feedback you either like it or hate it I actually enjoy it.

Track 7 "Fuck, The Spy Is Here To Get Us"
This track basically is telling us all not to trust the cops atleast that's the main message I got out of it. "You gotta think for yourself".

Track 8 "Betrunken"
Not really sure what they are trying to say a lot of the lyrics are again kinda hard to hear. However this was in 2006 technology and home recordings have progressed a lot since then. I akin this song to a lot of home recording songs of the era lots of overloading and distortion from the recorder and not enough emphasis on the vocals sounding cleaner.

Track 9 "Jesus Got The Biggest"
I love the switch from the 70's music era vocal effect to start and then the launching to the characteristic punk screams and yells back to the 70's vocal effect. Not gonna lie I agree with the singer "It's a fucking explosion" this whole album so far has been fast and hard like a explosion.

Track 10 "The Violence In VBG"
The final track is the hardest hitting off the album personally I like the heck out of it not better than "Alkolås" but, it's damn near close.

Each track is fitting it has a place it has some kind of meaning just because I dislike a few track doesn't mean you won't like them. Remember always question and always experiment. Peace guys (and gals).

Thirteen Towers is a 5 piece ( 7 when horns available) punk/ska band from Fairfax VA. The year was 2007. Edson tired of playing in cover bands wanted to finally try to " do his own thing". After being in bands where peoples ego and selfishness had always derailed any endeavors to move forward. Edson recruited a group of young musicians with similar musical interest to start a band that would welcome anybody's input towards songwriting . Also bringing a positive message about life, love, social equality, with a twist of humor and sarcasm. Being a huge fan of 90s punk and 3rd wave ska he had a clear vision of what the band could sound like. Thirteen Towers was in its metamorphic state. A Craigslist ad later, Mike Yaary, aka Mikey, was onboard on drums. A drummer from Philly living in the Northern VA area working hard during the day at an awesome job, had the need to release his greatness on the pots and pans and bring a quality ska element to the mix. A partnership in songwriting was born.

After 5 years of playing together, Edson on bass and Mikey on drums they are Thirteen Towers' only remaining original members. Singer Mike Tolbert joined the band in 2008 after the original singer Cliff Henley left for personal reasons. Mike brought with him an ability to make girls swoon with his lead vocals, bringing a level of tenderness that meshed well with punk and ska riffs that brought songs to life. After a few guitar players came and went, Thirteen Towers needed some new blood. Again using the ever popular Craigslist, 2 new guitarists were recruited. Jeff Skinner and Xavier Pena joined the band in late 2011 and have been with the band ever since, adding a polished sound to every song that Thirteen Towers ever wrote. In 2012 the grand idea to bring horns in as a new element to enhance their ska sound was hatched and brought in Chis Tolbert on trumpet. Chris has brought a true ear and a level of perfection with rich tones and soothing melodies that has made Thirteen Towers a contender in the DC punk and ska scene. They are currently working in trombone players to round out the horn section on a permanent basis.

Expect to hear great things in 2013 as they finish their recordings and continue to bring great energy to any and every performance they are a part of. Lookout for their new EP this Spring.

The Distractions formed in March of 2008, after Fowler and Stu, already part of The Blacklist, decided to do a full time punk side project with Kevin. They added Davey as a second guitarist the next year.

Drawing on the anthems of Face to Face and Midwestern pop punk, The Distractions have carved out their own niche of melodic punk. Starting with their first release, a DIY demo recorded by the band and their second release, “Wrong Way,” the band has been writing and playing the type of music that they find personally appealing with little consideration for a trendy stylistic approach.

Recently, The Distractions entered the studio yet again with an entire batch of new songs. What came out of those sessions were “Drinking To Get Drunk.” A new ep featuring both Kevin and Davey on vocals for the first time. Recorded by Fowler in their hometown of South Bend, IN, the ep is a combination of rowdy pop punk and 90′s nostalgia.

Fueled by a penchant for cheap beer and cigarettes, The Distractions plan on recording another ep by the end of the year in true DIY fashion and playing shows regionally in the Midwest.

Violence Therapy formed in a storage facility downtown London, Ontario; these 3 guys play dirty punk rock mixing both the old and the new. The members are Eric Lien - Vocals and Guitar, Liam "Sextoy" Jarvis - Bass and BG Vocals, Jimmy "The Animal" McLeish - Drums

The "JUST ANOTHER PUNK SHOW SERIES" is a series of releases that have been recorded live on CHRW' 94.9's Just Another Punk Show. Each release will feature a different band.

First, we apologize that our podcasts have not been feeding properly for the past two weeks. We have that sorted out and fixed now; expect to see them all rolling in within the next few hours. Second we changed our chatroom. You can now log into the chat box using your Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, or Chatwing account. The room we were using kept bugging out on us and frankly we were tired of paying for something that broke 3 to 4 times a week. Third, over the next couple of wees there will be some site layout updates well, we will be implementing a cleaner news feed box along with a few other minor tweaks to the over look and feel of the site in general. The station will continue to stream throughout this process and as always we will never ask you for any money to keep this station going. We like you too damn much to do that.

Social Trauma - Lies EP - 2013 - Self Release

The Punk Rock Gods are definitely smiling upon Social Trauma! Many attempts have been made at bringing back a genuine 80's Texas punk sound and many failures have resulted from such endeavors and then comes along this 3-piece act out of San Antonio with their debut EP Lies. These fuckers have hit every nail on the head, dotted every fucking "I" and crossed every god-damned "T" and produced what I'm going to go out there and pitch as the BEST PUNK ROCK RELEASE of 2013.

Donald Shameless-Guitar/Vocals, Patrick "BasedGod" Simmons-Bass/Backup vocals, and Christian Zukini- Drummer/Backup vocals deliver the kind of punk rock that makes you want to boot up and throw a nice big fit in a pit.

The raw, energetic intensity, the blistering guitars, bastardized bass, and classic snot in throat vocals spew from this album like beer from a busted keg. Hardcore thrash is their business and business is fucking good.

Track 3, No Fucks Given is by far the best track on the EP - the sad truth is, if more bands would take a genuine approach to this philosophy today's punk rock would not be floundering in the dirt like a little sissy bitch that's afraid to get it's mohawk dirty.

I honestly can't thank Social Trauma enough for this offering. Stand the Lies EP up next to anything released by Car Bomb, D.R.I., The Dicks, or any other 80's punk act and it will prove itself to be worthy of the company. In the 90's some ass fuck declared punk rock was dead, well, if it's dead Social Trauma are the punk rock zombies hell bent on eating the face off of today's modern music industry.

Thirteen Shots - Tales That Start With A Whisper - 2013 - Psycho-A-Go-Go Records

Tales That Start With A Whisper is the second full length offering from UK act Thirteen Shots, the follow up to the well received debut album Vaudeville. Based out of Birmingham, West Midlands, UK; Thirteen Shots are an Horror/Garage Rock band with a touch of Rockabilly flair.

Coming off the trail of two U.K. tours Thirteen Shots quickly settled back into the studio to bring us new songs.
Tales That Start With A Whisper is filled with dark lyrical content occasionally broken up with some sick, twisted humor, and amazingly big guitar riffs, choppy fills and the kind of bass work that I'd happily give my left testicle to play. I really dig how these kids pull off the Horror Rock theme while still keeping the tempo upbeat and fresh.

Track 6 Nekro Sexual quickly caught my ears as my favorite off the album. Everything seems to come together just right on this one. And who can resists a song with a "Stomp On My Balls" chorus? I can not. Sing it loud, sing it proud! Stomp On My Balls
The title track (7) Tales That Start with a Whisper is my runner up favorite. I dig the hell out of the basic, easy flow of the guitar work - no need to get fancy and show off all the time, it's just a nice, gritty little ditty with plenty of meat on it's bones.

Several tracks off this album were recorded live - always nice to have live tracks, especially when the quality is this good. It's also always a good thing to know a band sounds as good live as they do on studio recordings - definitely lets you know that the price of admission to a live show wont be regretted later.

Today's die hard punk rock fans would probably pass on this album and that'd be a terrible mistake to make as I can hear early punk influences MC5, New York Dolls, The Stooges, etc... as well as a good dip or few up and down the blues scales (is someone maybe a Clapton fan?) scattered throughout this album.

This is a fun album worthy of tossing back more than a beer or two while hanging out and listening to it. Tales That Start With A Whisper drops for purchase May 11, 2013. I'm not sure what dollar amount they intend to put to this album but I assure you kids it will be so very well worth the money.

Album release party is slated for the 11th of May at The Railway Inn Redditch after which their Acoustic Ep release will be May 13, 2013 at The Adam and Eve. Tour dates will be released soon. Thick Tread - From The Neck Up - 2013 - Palmwood Music

I've noticing a trend lately. Texas is pumping out a lot of ~~good~~ Great punk rock. Typically when you think Texas and punk rock you think Austin, Denton, Ft. Worth, or Dallas.
Thick Tread now enters the scene and shows us that the kids in San Angelo (Saggy Arms) have what it takes to represent the Lone Star State on the punk front.

From the Neck Up is their debut release on Palmwood Music.

15 tracks span a little over 30 minutes of quality musicianship, clearly identifiable vocals, and great punk rock music.

Thick Tread is Drew (Grundle) Fish - vocals & Guitar, John (Freddy K) Rabb - lead guitar & vocals, Martin (Dude) Delgado - drums & vocals, Chad Harris - bass; Gang Vocals are courtesy of Drew, Freddy, Martin, & Jeremy Guevara. I've had time to give this CD many spins to get a real good feel for the album. The guitars are crunchy, beefy and fast, like a 3AM Taco Bell run - very satisfying. Chad and Martin urge the songs along in a quick paced fashion - thank Bob for a great rhythm section.

These songs are fast, aggressive, and fun. There is enough here to keep the mosh pit happy as well as the back of the room lurkers (word of advice - don't be a back room lurker - those dudes are dicks - you don't want to be a dick do you?)

This album borrows sounds from bands like NOFX, MXPX, The Bouncing Souls and the guitars are very heavily influenced by Bad Religion.

Loud, Fast, Rock & Roll is what you get on this album kids, very well worth the 12 bucks. Grab a copy today and check them out for yourself. -

The Overall Art of Album
The overall art of this album is definitely unique. I found it really interesting to see a different cover then what you normally would find on an album cover. Overall, the cover has a very unique cover and something that really catches the eye.

The Music
The music overall was really good. The vocals and instruments didn’t tune each other out. This album has clear passion from the band members. It also has hard work put into it, and room to grow as a band that can always create even more music that has truly developed from the current place.

Originality
This album definitely has originality in it. The band is one of a kind

Words of Wisdom
Keep doing what you’re doing. You guys are good. There is always room for improvement from where you currently are. You guys can go far for sure.
