That is where I found this little gem. It’s called Wiretap.

It is from the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company), which puts out many wonder podcasts. This one was a silly little show in which you host, Jonathan Goldstein takes a bunch of calls from friends, relatives and strangers all to a very funny outcome.

CBC Radio presents the WireTap Podcast! Enter the world of Jonathan Goldstein. You wouldn’t want to live there, but it’s a hell of a place to visit. – iTunes Description

The show is obviously scripted and the humor might be considered dry. You won’t hear a bunch of swearing and crudeness like I hear on so many other comedy podcasts. For the most part this was pretty clean and still funny, which is rare now-a-days. And while I don;t have a problem with crude langage, it seems many podcasters thing that is the only way to be funny. Not this one. The shows are a nice length of under a half hour. Check it out!

This is of really no concern of yours, but I thought I needed to offer and explanation. I wanted to assure you that The Podcast Place will not be shutting down, and, if fact, we are just getting going.

What’s new for 2010? Our hope is to get out podcast underway. The idea is to have a new audio podcast every Friday, which would be a combination of indie music and, of course, podcast reviews!

Thanks about it for now. I’ve got 2 podcasts to review

Metal Rules Radio and CrapCastic.Com
If you want to check these out before my review and let me know what you think, it might help. Feel free to email mw at
jeff@thepodcastplace.com

This week I’ll go the opposite way and talk about a few podcasts that are closer to my heart, and that is those in the skeptical vain.

Today we have the Skepticality Podcast, which is the official podcast of Skeptic Magazine. Hosted by Derek Colanduno and Swoopy (yes, Swoopy), this is a supurb skeptical podcast. Now the two most recent show only had Swoopy as host, and I don’t know what happened to Derek Colanduno. I plan on going back and listening to older shows so many I’ll find out.

Skepticality is skeptical discussion, critical thinking, science, and the de-bunking of the supernatural and psuedoscience. Nice!

We’re tired of pertinent social and science news being buried by clap trap. Our podcast is here to bring you relevant, under reported current events, as well as in-depth discussion from a scientific, critical, skeptical, and humorous point of view. - From Itunes

This week I’ll go the opposite way and talk about a few podcasts that are closer to my heart, and that is those in the skeptical vain.

The first is a podcast called MonsterTalk. Now I came across this while looking for shows to review for last week. When you hear, MonsterTalk, you’d instantly think a show talking about Big Foot and Nessy. Well, yes, these are the subjects of this podcast, but in a very scientific and Skeptical way.

MonsterTalk is a free audio podcast that critically examines the science behind cryptozoological (and legendary) creatures, such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or werewolves. Hosted by Blake Smith, Ben Radford, and Dr. Karen Stollznow, MonsterTalk interviews the scientists and investigators who shine a spotlight on the things that go bump in the night. For once (and unlike mystery-mongering television shows) a monster-themed program gives skepticism more than just a couple minutes of lip service! – From The MonsterTalk Website

For those that watch one of these cable shows like Monsterquest and wonder “Is that true?” I strongly advice you to listen to this podcast.

An Almost Unabridged Expedition Experience.

The Rest of Everest is a video podcast created by documentary filmmaker Jon Miller of TreeLine Productions in Colorado. It is “the rest” of the footage from the groundbreaking expedition documentary “Everest: The Other Side” which engrossed thousands of viewers when it premiered on Dish Network™ Pay-Per-View in May of 2005.

There are 120 episodes on The Rest of Everest website and it advised that you watch them in order. Each show is about alf an hour long. There is some really amazing footage. Here is a promo I found on YouTube.

The show is hosted by Byron Sanchez and he explores a wide range of topics, all in the supernatural topics such as ghost attacks, ouija board, crop circles, extraterrestrial contact, ghost hunting, mass consciousness, and much more.

I listen to show was SEP 37: Jeff Danelek – 2012, Ghosts, and Reincarnation, and the first things that stuck out at me, beyond the intelligent conversation between Byron and Jeff Danelek, was the more realistic view of 2012. If the show featured a typical History Channel view of trying to scare everyone for the sake of ratings, I might have turned it off. The two gave a more sensible view of the topic.

I can’t help but say, the skeptic in me made my eyes roll a few times, but that is just me personally not believing in many of the things talked about. I know many people do, and for them, they might find this podcast very interesting.

I host the podcast “Supernatural Existence,” a talk show discussing all kinds of things. I often host interviews on the show with guests who are actively involved in many different fields. The show also offers call in lines and emails from listeners, that way anyone can get their views on the program. – Byron Sanchez (From the Supernatural Existence website.

I decided to get a little more adventurous today and listen to a podcast about Bigfoot. Yes, Bigfoot, the legendary beast that lives in the woods and is only ever visible to out of focus cameras. Kidding aside, and putting my skepticism aside as well, I will attempt to review this show with an open mind.

First, from listening to one show, I will tell you what I didn’t hear. There was no talk of Bigfoot news, and sightings from around the world, no facts and figures attempting to prove the large creatures existence.

What I did hear was a live TalkShoe show, this episode called, Hunter from Oklahoma, in which the hosts, Jeff and Lem talk to new MABRC (Mid-America Bigfoot Research Center) Researcher Hunter to discuss his latest trip to Chickasaw National Park in Oklahoma. Within that, they talk phone calls and discuss Bigfoot hunting strategies and equipment.

To me, the show sounded like a bunch of campers sitting around and discussing their day and I don’t mean that in a bad way. I can appreciate the laid back, how was your day, approach.
