Remember that with these web grades we are not reviewing the candidates or their political positions, but rather their web outreach. Let us know what you think. How would you have graded them? And don't forget to check out our previous web grades as well.

Dick Durbin (dickdurbin.com)
Visitors are greeted with yet another splash page when surfing to Dick Durbin's site. After bypassing that annoying feature, viewers find a site with a modern look, an easy to use layout, and a color scheme that is pleasant and not the standard red, white, and blue. The home page has a rotating banner with various headlines, as well as links to the latest news, videos, and the candidate's platform.

The biography section is broken into three different parts, though none of them contain a wealth of information and they could easily be combined. A Working For You page, which should probably be folded into the biography section, doesn't have much information either and it's probably not a good thing to suggest Durbin's accomplishments can be summed up in just three sentences. The issues section is better, though a bit broad, providing information on seven different topics. Reading this section, however, I get the sense that the site hasn't seen a major upgrade since Durbin's last run in 2002. There are numerous references to the September 11th attacks and living in a "post-September 11th world," which seem a little dated today.

Relevant media stories are found in the news section and the site has an extensive archive dating back several years (there's even a 2005 petition urging Barack Obama to run for president), though the campaign hasn't posted any press releases online. Users will find a video and photo gallery in the multimedia section, though neither is very extensive or up to date. The photo gallery has 35 pictures, though none are from 2008. There are eight mostly pre-2008 videos online, but the site doesn't link its own YouTube account (which only has three videos available). Other outreach is very limited. There are the usual links to contribute, volunteer, and join the email list, but opportunities to interact with the campaign aren't otherwise available. There is no blog. No campaign schedule is posted. The site doesn't have any links to networking outlets either.

Finding Durbin's campaign site should be relatively easy for anyone with sense of the internets. "DickDubrin.com" is easy enough to remember and the site was a top return for most web searches. The campaign has even purchased sponsored links for relevant search topics on Google.

Grade: B-
The site has a professional look, but some of the content needs to be updated. More opportunities for user interaction need to be integrated into the site as well.

Steve Sauerberg (sauerberg2008.com)
As with the Durbin site, visitors find a splash page upon arrival (join the email list? no thank you). Especially above the fold, the Sauerberg home page is very bland (is the huge campaign logo that takes up one-third of the screen really needed?). It's easy to find your way around the site, but the design is somewhat dated and there a few technical issues that need to be addressed. First, the text for visited links turns white, making them impossible to notice against a white background. Second, when on the issues page, the first three links on the across the main bar do not work.

Sauerberg's biography page does include several photos of the candidate and his family, but the biography itself could include more information. The issues section covers eight topics and while some have more detail, most are summarized in just a few points. The campaign has integrated a donation form into each topic page as well, though it's well below the fold and may be overlooked by most visitors.

The news section features an extensive archive of media coverage and campaign releases, though it would be nice if the campaign were to distinguish them under separate headings. There is also a heading for upcoming events, though nothing was posted as of this visit. The multimedia page contains eight videos, oddly enough including a recent Budweiser ad thanking US troops for their service. Visitors can also click over to the campaign's YouTube page, though it isn't very active--only one videos has been posted in the past five months. There are a few photos located throughout the site, but there is no central photo gallery and the campaign's Flickr account has just two images online. Other networking sites (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn) are linked at the bottom of every page and the standard opportunities to donate, volunteer, and sign-up are also available. The lack of a campaign blog, however, is a disappointment.

Locating the site via web search was no problem--it was a top return for all the searches I tried. I'm not sure why the campaign opted against going with "stevesauerberg.com," but other domains (sauerbergforsenate.com and sauerbergforussenate.com) do redirect to the site.

Grade: C+
Sauerberg's site isn't significantly better or worse than Durbin's, but a stale design and a few technical glitches earn the challenger a slightly lower grade.

Without mentioning his opponent by name, Begich manages to keep the attention squarely on the ethics investigation into incumbent Ted Stevens.

Senate Watch: Kansas
Democrat Jim Slattery is out with his third new ad this week, "Gas Pump." The spot hits Republican Senator Pat Roberts for accepting donations for the big oil, while supporting tax breaks for oil companies.

Senate Watch: Minnesota
Republican Norm Coleman goes on the offensive and doesn't hold back in his latest spot, "Why Not?" The spot returns to the bowling alley setting used in Coleman's most recent effort (and in a Franken response video), this time with the bowlers running through a litany of problems that have plagued Franken's campaign of late, some of them rather exaggerated--"Not paying taxes. Going without insurance for his employees. Foul mouthed attacks on anyone he disagrees with. Tasteless, sexist jokes. Writing all that juicy porn." The ad goes on to question Franken's qualifications, adding, "We've decided we're running for US Senate. Why not? We're just as qualified as Al Franken and we're better bowlers." It's a devastating hit that will continue to keep the focus on Coleman's opponent and off the incumbent. Franken would be wise to begin running a television version of the web-only ad linked above to try and turn the focus back to Coleman, while highlighting their differences on the issues. If he can't do that, the Minnesota electorate hungry for change may find Al Franken simply unelectable.

Senate Watch: Oregon
Jeff Merkley's campaign hasn't aired an ad since its narrow primary win in May, but the candidate hasn't failed to get his message out. Merkley has appeared in three issues ads sponsored by the Oregon Democratic Party. Now national Democrats are jumping in to boost Merkley as well, responding to recent attacks from Republican Gordon Smith on taxes. "Long" is a 30-second spot that hits the incumbent for voting with President Bush on tax breaks for the wealthy. "In Oregon, Gordon Smith with say anything to get elected, but his record in Washington speaks for itself," the ad succinctly concludes.

"Pump" is a 30-second spot that will air in Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, the Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin markets, as well as on national cable. Blaming Obama for the rising gas costs seems a little foolish, given that Republicans have controlled the White House for the past eight years and had majorities in Congress for much of that time.

A new conservative group, Let Freedom Ring, is also hitting Obama in a new ad, though the extent of their buy is currently unknown. The ad suggests Obama is "worse than a flip-flopper," holding two positions on issues at the same time--"both ways Barack." For an attack ad, it's rather light-hearted, though I'm not sure how many voters are really going to see this ad or be affected by its rather weak message (flip-flopping is so 2004).

Yet another conservative group, Citizens United (the folks behind Hillary: The Movie and several recent attack ads on Obama as well), is airing a new ad on Fox News promoting their upcoming film about Obama. 'Hype: The Obama Effect' is feature length "documentary" that will probably tie Obama to the Hindenburg disaster and the Lindbergh kidnapping among other charges.

Senate Watch: Minnesota
"The More You Know" is the latest offering from Al Franken. The ad is the strongest effort to date from the Democrat to tie Senator Norm Coleman to President Bush, painting the incumbent as a pawn of the Washington special interests and supporting tax cuts for the rich. Airing this type of negative ad is exactly what Franken needs to do to put the spotlight back on his opponent and right his own struggling campaign.

Senate Watch: Oklahoma
Democratic challenger Andrew Rice has released the first ad in the Oklahoma Senate contest. "A New Leader" is an effective 30-second spot that introduces the first term state senator to the state's voters and hits Republican Jim Inhofe for spending 22 years in Washington and having "lost his way."

The ad is the first truly negative spot of the general election cycle, hitting Barack Obama on a number of fronts--flip-flopping, failing to support the troops, and an underlying question of patriotism among them. The Obama campaign responded, "While Barack Obama wants to change American foreign policy to wind down the war in Iraq and address the grave threat posed by a resurgent Al Qaeda and Taliban in Afghanistan, John McCain offers this patently misleading negative ad. Given his calls for a civil campaign, it's disappointing that Sen. McCain has slipped so easily into the same, tired campaign tactics that have become so familiar to the American people."

Gubernatorial Watch: Delaware
Democrat Jack Markell has released another new ad, "Book," which touts the candidates ideas for change.

Gubernatorial Watch: Missouri
Republican Kenny Hulshof's latest offering, "Strong," again goes after rival Sarah Steelman on ethanol. The spot hits Lunsford for apparently seeking to increase gas taxes, though some of the claims are fairly misleading.

Senate Watch: Mississippi
The DSCC has launched a new ad on behalf of Ronnie Musgrove, "Common Sense," which touts his fiscal responsibility as governor. Merkley's opponent, Republican Senator Gordon Smith, has suggested the ads violate campaign finance rules.

Gordon Smith has responded by releasing his second new ad this hitting Merkley on taxes. The latest spot, "Every Night," uses a Merkley quote from a primary debate this spring against him. Merkley's campaign has released the full debate quote in a video response.

And don't forget to check out our new Senate rankings (last updated 6/27/08).

Alabama
Republican Jeff Sessions continues to lead comfortably in his try for a third term. The latest polling from Rasmussen gives the incumbent a 58%-34% lead over Democratic challenger Vivian Figures. That margin is actually down some from a 33 point lead in May, but this contest isn't likely to become competitive barring an unforeseen collapse from Sessions.

Alaska
Democratic challenger Mark Begich (pictured) brought in just over $1 million during the second quarter, out-pacing longtime lawmaker Ted Stevens. Begich, who recently launched his ad campaign, pushed his cash on hand to more than $800,000. Though Stevens raised $745,000 during the same period, his $1.7 million cash on hand more than doubles that of his rival. Still, the Begich number is very impressive and with help likely coming from the DSCC as well, Stevens' early fundraising edge has essentially been erased.

Arkansas
Though he faces no Republican challenger, Democrat Mark Pryor raised $175,000 over the past three months, pushing his cash total to $3.6 million. Pryor appears certain to cruise to a second term.

Colorado
Another new poll shows Democrat Mark Udall (pictured) solidifying a lead over Republican Bob Schaffer. The latest Public Policy Polling survey gives Udall a 47%-38% lead. Both candidates do equally well within their own party, drawing more than three-quarters of the Republican and Democratic vote respectively. Udall's lead is largely due to his dominance among unaffiliated votes, leading Schaffer among this group 50%-26%. The Democrat raised more than $2 million during the year's second quarter, though he spent more than he brought in and his cash total dipped to just under $4 million. Schaffer brought in $1.4 million and now has $2.8 million in the bank. The two recently squared off in their first debate, which ended with both sides predictably declaring victory. Check out video of the debate here and decide for yourself. Watch for any movement in the next few polls to see if this first meeting had any impact on the race's dynamics.

Georgia
No candidate earned 50% in the Tuesday Democratic primary, which will now head to a runoff with Vernon Jones (41%) facing Jim Martin (34%). Turnout was reportedly low and should dip even further for the August 5 runoff, but we see Martin as the favorite heading into the second round of voting. Though Jones (pictured) came in ahead of Martin, propelled by a strong showing among black voters, he was the most polarizing figure in the race and may have maximized his vote already. Third place finisher Dale Cardwell (16%) has already thrown his support to Martin and we expect the majority of Rand Knight and Josh Lanier supporters to back Martin as well. But can he get them to turnout in three weeks? That looks to be the key.

Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss will have to wait a little longer for the general election to begin, but he'll begin with a healthy financial edge regardless of his opponent. Chambliss reported $4 million on hand after raising $800,000 over the past three months, while the Democratic nominee will likely start from scratch after an extended primary fight.

Idaho
The latest fundraising numbers show Republican Jim Risch with a 4:1 cash advantage over Democratic rival Larry LaRocco (pictured). Risch raised $500,000 to finish the quarter with just over $1 million available, while LaRocco brought in $233,000 and ended the period with $242,000 on hand. Rancher Rex Rammell, running as an independent, pledged $250,000 to his own campaign and is seen as a potential spoiler for the Republican. Rammell has teamed with LaRocco for a series of debates, while Risch has declined to appear with either challenger. Though Risch has largely been out-hustled by LaRocco, who is building a grassroots team across the state, internal polling from LaRocco's campaign shows the Republican edge in the state will be difficult to overcome. Risch led LaRocco 43%-28% in the survey of 500 voters, with Rammell earning 6% of the vote. Though LaRocco touted the 15 point margin and Risch's less than stellar approval numbers as a victory, it remains difficult for any Democrat to win statewide in Idaho.

Illinois
Democratic Senator Dick Durbin (pictured) continues to breeze to another term. The Senate's second ranking Democrat has built a huge war chest, though he faces an unknown political novice in Republican physician Steve Sauerberg. Durbin's latest financial report showed him bringing in $685,000 during the second quarter and holding an impressive $8.2 million in his campaign account. Sauerberg now has just over $1 million available after raising around $100,000, though most of his total comes from a personal loan of more than $1 million made earlier this year. The first public polling of the race, conducted earlier this month, gave Durbin a 61%-27% lead. Sauerberg's own internals, released yesterday, show him trailing by a somewhat more manageable margin, 52%-35%.

Iowa
Tom Harkin continues to add to his financial advantage as another poll shows this to be his easiest race since entering the Senate in 1984. The Democratic incumbent raised $633,000 last quarter and now has more than $4.1 million on hand for his race against political newcomer Chris Reed. That total puts him far in front of Reed, a Marion businessman, who was the surprise winner of the state's June primary. Reed has yet to report his fundraising results. The latest poll shows little change in the race from last month, giving Harkin a 52%-36% edge.

Kansas
Polls show Republican Senator Pat Roberts (pictured) with an increasing lead after the incumbent launched his ad campaign. After cruising to a second term without Democratic opposition six years ago, polls had shown his lead as little as 9 points last month. Roberts' advertising blitz, which includes a negative spot that hits Democratic challenger Jim Slattery for his lobbying work after leaving Congress more than a decade ago, has seemingly paid off with two new polls showing the incumbent up by 20 points or more. An internal poll from the Roberts camp has him up 54%-34%, while a new Rasmussen survey gives Roberts a 57%-30% lead over Slattery. Financial disclosures show further trouble for the challenger, as Roberts increased his fundraising advantage over the past three months. Roberts brought in over $850,000 during the period and he now has better than $3.1 million in the bank. Slattery raised around $500,000 and his campaign has roughly $600,000 available after jumping into the race late.

Kentucky
In order to have any real shot at upsetting Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford (pictured) will have to dig deep into his own pockets. The wealthy businessman has begun to do just that, having chipped in $2.5 million of his money during the second quarter. That contribution pushed Lunsford's fundraising total to $3.1 million and his campaign now has $1.3 million left in the bank. The Supreme Court repeal of the so-called "Millionaire's Amendment" to campaign finance law, which allowed candidates to raise more than the normal limit from donors when facing wealthy, self-funding candidates, appears to been a great benefit to the Democrats in this race. Yet it seems McConnell didn't need much help on the fundraising front. The incumbent raised more than $3 million as well, bringing his cash on hand total to a whopping $9 million. Polling shows Lunsford trailing, but competitive with McConnell and if he is willing to continually tap his own wealth (and his history suggests that he may), this contest should stay on the second tier radar for Democrats.

Louisiana
Two new polls show this race remains tight, though Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu holds a slight lead in both surveys. A Southern Media survey gave Landrieu a 46%-40% lead over Republican John Kennedy, while Rasmussen showed Landrieu ahead 49%-44%. Barack Obama may help increase black turnout in the state--a key to Landrieu's two previous wins, both by extremely narrow margins--but both surveys showed him running well behind John McCain. Kennedy (pictured) was able to keep pace with Landrieu on the fundraising front, bringing in $1.51 million to Landrieu's $1.54 million. The incumbent has more than double the cash on hand, however, with $5.4 million in the bank to Kennedy's $2.7 million. Still, the state's demographics make Landrieu, who released her first ad this week, the most vulnerable Democrat facing election this cycle and Kennedy has proven himself a capable opponent.

Maine
The Maine contest pitting two-term Republican Susan Collins (pictured) against six-term 1st District Democrat Tom Allen remains one of the most difficult races to gauge this cycle. With the national mood favoring the Democrats again this cycle, Senate Republicans across the country--even in strong red states like Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Texas--are gearing up for some of the toughest races of their careers. Yet, Susan Collins remains extremely popular in Maine and could be headed to a surprisingly comfortable victory in the blue-leaning Pine Tree State. After a series of polls from Rasmussen showed Allen slowly closing a once monumental gap to single digits, a new survey from the Maine-based Pan Atlantic SMS group gives Collins a commanding 56%-31% lead. A 25 point margin at this point in the game, even if it is something of an outlier, is almost inexplicable.

All is not lost for the Democrats in this contest though. Barack Obama should carry the state with ease and, as we noted earlier, the latest Rasmussen survey put the margin in single digits and Collins under 50%. Allen (pictured), though not necessarily an electrifying candidate on the trail, is a credible opponent who has represented half of the state's voters for more than a decade. His campaign has also managed to hold his own with Collins on the fundraising front, bringing in just over $1 million for the second quarter and holding $3.1 million on hand. Collins also raised a little more than $1 million over the past three months, though the incumbent has $5.1 million in the bank. Neither campaign has begun advertising yet, but both sides have raised enough to make this the most expensive Senate race in Maine history.

Massachusetts
John Kerry (pictured) continues to coast to another term, leading Republican challenger Jeff Beatty 58%-27% in a new Rasmussen poll. The margin is down slightly from last month, but Kerry, who has more than $9.3 million in his campaign account for the race, should win a fifth term with ease. His path was made nominally easier when highly touted Republican recruit Jim Ogonowski failed to gather the required number of signatures to make the ballot in May.

Michigan
Democratic Senator Carl Levin's lead has grown to more than 20 points according to a new Rasmussen survey. Levin leads state Representative Jack Hoogendyk 54%-33%. The incumbents financial edge continues to grow as well. Levin raised more than $700,000 during the last quarter and now has $4.4 million available for the race. Hoogendyk's campaign brought in just under $102,000 during the same period and has only $41,000 on hand.

Minnesota
The filing deadline has passed in Minnesota and former Governor Jesse Ventura (pictured), who had been teasing a bid for weeks, will not appear on the November ballot. Republican incumbent Norm Coleman, who lost the 1998 gubernatorial race to Ventura, and Democratic challenger Al Franken are likely breathing a sigh of relief that the former wrestler opted to stay on the sidelines. Though Ventura may not be jumping in the race, eighteen others filed their intention to run. Most notable is Dean Barkley, of the Independence Party, who was appointed by then-Governor Ventura to fill the remainder of Democrat Paul Wellstone's term after his death in 2002. Barkley doesn't have the drawing power that Ventura had (who could have attracted one quarter of the vote or more), but his past runs suggest he is capable of earning 5-10% of the vote. Former party chair Jack Uldrich and five others are filed for the Independence Party nod.

Al Franken's path to the Democratic nomination goes through six other candidate, including Priscilla Lord Faris. An attorney and daughter of former federal judge Miles Lord, Lord Faris had previously donated to Franken's campaign, but is now concerned that his past comedic work may come back to hurt his candidacy. Coleman faces a primary challenge as well, from frequent candidate Jack Shepard, who is more of a joke than a serious obstacle. Shepard currently resides in Italy and has an outstanding arrest warrant from 1982. Both major candidates expect to remain focused on the general election.

Two new polls continue to paint a contrasting picture of the race. Rasmussen, who has shown the closer than most, has Franken (pictured) moving into a slight lead over Coleman, 44%-42%. Survey USA, which has generally shown a wider margin, has Coleman up 52%-39%. I'm inclined to think the race is somewhere in between, with Coleman up by a small margin. Both camps also released fundraising numbers and Norm Coleman barely out-raised Franken after the challenger had raised more than the incumbent for two cycles running. Coleman brought in $2.35 million and now has $7.2 million on hand, while Franken raised $2.26 million and has slightly over $4 million available.

Mississippi
After being blown out of the water in the first quarter fundraising race, Democratic challenger Ronnie Musgrove (pictured) came in virtually even with Senator Roger Wicker this time around. Musgrove raised $814,000 with $716,000 on hand. Wicker brought in a similar $822,000, but the Republican, appointed after the resignation of Trent Lott last winter, holds $2.9 million in his campaign account. Wicker's fundraising for the third quarter has already received a boost as well. The candidate appeared with President Bush earlier this month at an event that brought in nearly $1 million. Wicker's financial advantage has allowed him to control the airwaves in recent weeks, but the DSCC has now stepped in on Musgrove behalf. The new ad, which Wicker charges violates campaign funding rules, emphasizes Musgrove's fiscal responsibility.

Montana
Democrat Max Baucus continued his impressive fundraising pace in the third quarter, raising $900,000 and boosting his cash total to nearly $5.5 million. His opponent, perennial candidate Bob Kelleher, the surprising winner of the Republican primary who has since been largely shunned by the Montana Republican establishment, apparently did not raise enough money to even file an FEC report.

Nebraska
Democratic challenger Scott Kleeb, who has been lagging far behind in recent polls, actually out-raised his opponent, former Republican Governor Mike Johanns, during the second quarter. Kleeb (pictured) brought in $698,000 over the past three months and his campaign reports about $450,000 on hand. Johanns raised $683,000 during the same period, but he holds far more in his campaign account, now at more than $1.2 million.

New Hampshire
Former Democratic Governor Jeanne Shaheen bested Republican Senator John Sununu on the fundraising front for the second quarter in a row. Shaheen raised over $1.6 million and her campaign now has $4.3 million on hand. Sununu's team brought in $1.1 million during the same three months and holds $5.1 million in its account.

New Jersey
Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg (pictured) begins his general election race against former Republican Congressman Dick Zimmer with a financial edge and a growing margin in the polls. Recently released fundraising reports show Lautenberg's campaign with $1.3 million on hand. Zimmer raised more than $750,000 during the second quarter, but has just $411,000 available. After a couple post primary polls showed a very close race, two new polls show a more comfortable margin for the Democratic incumbent. A Rasmussen survey gives Lautenberg a 49%-36% lead over Zimmer, while a Strategic Vision poll has a Lautenberg up 48%-32%. While Lautenberg's approval numbers remain rather unimpressive, the Democratic tilt of the state should be enough to carry him to victory in November.

New Mexico
Financial reports show both Democrat Tom Udall and Republican Steve Pearce (pictured) picking up the fundraising pace, though the Democrat maintained his edge. Udall brought in more than $2.1 million to end the quarter with $2.9 million. Pearce raised over $1.2 million, though his campaign reported only $532,000 on hand. Udall's campaign actually spent more than its opponent brought in during the period, largely on advertising. Pearce, meanwhile, has been off the air since his narrow primary win over House colleague Heather Wilson June 3, and he isn't likely to get much help from national Republicans. The NRSC has signaled that it sees the New Mexico contest as essentially out of reach and doesn't plan on providing any financial support.

North Carolina
A number of new polls show Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole solidifying a double digit lead after an advertising blitz across the state. Public Policy Polling shows Dole leading Democrat Kay Hagan 51%-37%, Rasmussen has Dole up 53%-41%, and Survey USA finds the incumbent ahead 54%-42%. Democrats remain very optimistic about their chances in the Tarheel State though, as evidenced by the DSCC reserving $5-6 million worth of advertising time in the state. Hagan (pictured) has also begun to close the financial gap with Dole, raising a very strong $1.6 million during the second quarter to bring her cash on hand total to $1.2 million--quadrupling what she had three months ago. Dole's ad campaign has dented her cash total during the second quarter. The incumbent began the quarter with $3.2 million on hand, but now has $2.7 million remaining after bringing in $1.7 million during the period.

Oklahoma
Democratic challenger Andrew Rice had his best fundraising quarter to date, raising more than $450,000. The first term state senator now has nearly $750,000 on hand, though his effort failed to keep pace with Republican Senator Jim Inhofe (pictured). The incumbent's campaign brought in more than $875,000 over the past three months and has over $2.45 million on hand.

Oregon
The good news continues to roll in for Democratic challenger Jeff Merkley. After out-raising Republican Senator Gordon Smith during the second quarter, a new poll shows Merkley taking a slight lead in the race. The Democrat brought in $1.42 million over the past three months and he now has $560,000 on hand. The Smith campaign maintained it's financial edge, however, with $4.47 million to use going forward after raising $1.35 million. Smith's campaign has also been advertising for weeks, while Merkley's camp hasn't launched an ad since winning the nomination in May. Oregon voters have seen Merkley on their television screens though. The challenger has appeared in a series of issue ads paid for by the Oregon Democratic Party, which his rival claims violates campaign spending rules. The ads may be paying off. Merkley leads Smith 43%-41% in a new Rasmussen poll, the first to show the challenger in front.

Rhode Island
The first public survey of the Rhode Island Senate contest shows Democrat Jack Reed (pictured) predictably cruising to another term. Reed leads Bob Tingle, his 2002 opponent, 72%-20% according to a new Rasmussen poll. Three-quarter of the electorate in this heavily Democratic state have a favorable view of the incumbent, while Tingle remains largely unknown. Reed added $450,000 to his campaign account during the second quarter, bringing his total to $3.8 million. His opponent acknowledge the monumental task before and admitted that he doesn't plan on raising much money for the race, saying, "There is no way I'm going to compete with Jack Reed on [money] so I'm not even going to try." The Democrat earned some national buzz this week as well when it was revealed that he would travel with Barack Obama to Iraq this summer. Reed has since denied any interest in serving as Obama's vice president as is expected to easily win a third term.

South Carolina
Republican Lindsey Graham (pictured) looks like a safe bet for reelection this fall, with a new Public Policy Polling survey giving him a 54%-32% edge over Democratic nominee Bob Conley. Graham's path was made easier this week when former Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark McBride dropped his independent bid after failing to collect the required number of signatures to make the November ballot. McBride had been running to the right of Graham, hitting the incumbent for leading the push for comprehensive immigration reform in recent years.

South Dakota
Once considered vulnerable this cycle, Democratic Senator Tim Johnson has built a massive fundraising advantage and he continues to hold a comfortable lead over little known challenger Joel Dykstra. Johnson's campaign reported $2.7 million on hand after bringing in $560,000 during the second quarter. Dykstra raised $176,000 over the same period, but has just under $64,000 remaining. Adding to Dykstra's woes is a new Rasmussen poll that finds Johnson up 60%-35%, with nearly 70% of South Dakota voters holding a favorable view of the Democrat.

Tennessee
Three Democratic challengers continue to lag far behind Republican Senator Lamar Alexander (pictured) in the fundraising race. Former Tennessee Democratic chair Bob Tuke added more than $200,000 during the second quarter and has $260,000 on hand. Businessman Kenneth Eaton contributed $275,000 to his own campaign, while former Knox County clerk Mike Padgett raised $47,000 and ended the quarter with $32,000 remaining. Alexander, meanwhile, raised $600,000 to push his cash total to $3.2 million.

Texas
Democrat Rick Noriega had his best fundraising quarter yet, but he continues to be out-raised by Republican Senator John Cornyn. The Democrat brought in $930,000 over the past three months and now has $916,000 on hand. The first term Republican added $1.7 million to his campaign account since April 1st and has nearly $9.4 million remaining.

Virginia
<span class="vitstorybody
