When Pain Shall End

Sometimes we suffer, but the Lord gives comfort. Thoughts for this morning after a long night of pain.
Job 33:19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong [pain]:
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

When Pain Shall End.

Though we suffer now for a time,
One day the Lord will take all that away.
Blessed are they that endure for a time,
In patience waiting for the glory to come.
We know that our life is such a short time,
Much of it is spent in the battle fray.
But God shall say, now it is time,
In bright glory His Son shall come.
The angel shall declare no more is time!
And my Lord shall say come away!

1) God chose a people in Christ before the foundation of the world. Ephesians 1:4

2) He sent His Son to die for their sins John 10:11 and not for all of humanity. John 10:26

9) Faith is a fruit of salvation Galatians 5:22 not a prerequisite. Psalm 10:4

10) Faith is an evidence of salvation Hebrews 11:1 not a condition. Romans 3:10-18

11) Faith is a provision of the covenant Philippians 1:29 not a condition of the covenant. Hebrews 11:6

12) A man must be born again in order to hear the gospel John 8:47 and to understand it. John 8:43

13) A man must be born again in order to believe the gospel. 1 Corinthians 2:11

14) Men believe because they have eternal life 1 John 5:1 not in order to obtain eternal life. John 5:24

15) Salvation is of the Lord. Jonah 2:9

A difficult lesson to learn and even harder to put into practice, but important to do so. Do not read historical documents, especially those of a religious nature, from your current point of view. We all are the sum total in our thinking of the influences of others up until our own time. Many battles have been waged in that time. Many refinements in expression have occurred as a result. Seek to view the old writings in the context of their day, with the understanding of those in that day. Above all, be charitable when reading them and respectful. Many of the old brethren, our predecessors in the faith, sacrificed everything for the cause of Christ.

FOR WHOM DID CHRIST DIE?

The Father imposed His wrath due unto, and the Son underwent punishment for, either:

All the sins of all men.

All the sins of some men, or

Some of the sins of all men.

In which case it may be said:

That if the last be true, all men have some sins to answer for, and so, none are saved.

That if the second be true, then Christ, in their stead suffered for all the sins of all the elect in the whole world, and this is the truth.

But if the first be the case, why are not all men free from the punishment due unto their sins?

You answer, “Because of unbelief.”

I ask, Is this unbelief a sin, or is it not? If it be, then Christ suffered the punishment due unto it, or He did not. If He did, why must that hinder them more than their other sins for which He died? If He did not, He did not die for all their sins!”

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:3-5

In this bible text, we find a complete expression of the gospel message. The following truths are found herein:

1. Our fallen, depraved nature and need of salvation.

2. God loved us, even though we were in such a wretched condition. This love and kindness is what moved God to be our Saviour.

3. Neither God’s love for us, nor His salvation of us, was based on any good work we might do.

4. Salvation is an act of mercy towards us.

5. Salvation in this text is presented as a completed work on His part, “he saved us”. The “us” and “man” in the text are one and the same. If by “man” all humanity is meant, then all humanity is saved (i.e. Universalism), which is false. Else, the “man” is limited to the persons under consideration “us” and these alone are saved by Christ (Particular Redemption), which is true. No alternative position (i.e. Arminianism, Calvinism of various sorts, etc.) is acceptable to this text which does not have Christ alone positively and completely saving the objects of His love.

6. The means of bringing this salvation, the changing of our depraved nature – giving us a living spiritual nature, is by a direct work of the Holy Ghost in regeneration (i.e. the New Birth).

7. This salvation is thorough and complete, “shed on us abundantly”, in the finished atoning work of Jesus Christ.

8. We are justified before God by the grace of God on the basis of the atoning work of Jesus Christ.

9. These saving actions of God “our Saviour” are the reason we may experience hope and heirship in Christ as we live in the here and now.

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. An Unworthy Gospel (Fullerism) by George M. Ella

The following is an excellent article by George M. Ella. In this article Mr. Ella clearly shows the errors of the doctrine of Andrew Fuller which postulated that the atonement of Christ was sufficient for all mankind, but effective only for the elect. This error, though not entirely original with Andrew Fuller, was greatly popularized by him in the 1800s among Baptists that had primarily been strong believers in the 5 cardinal points of the Doctrine of Grace. By weakening just one one of these doctrines, in this case the Limited Atonement (or Particular Redemption), effects are had throughout the doctrinal system as they all hang together. Therefore, it brought about radical changes in doctrine among most Baptists that are still felt today.

Romans 5:15-18

The Arminians insist that a gift is not a gift unless it is received by a positive act of volition on the part of the recipient. Such is ridiculous and even nature testifies against this as nonsense. What person received the gift of natural life by an act of the will on their part? I also received my blood type, eye color, and numerous other characteristics from my parents without any act or say in the matter at all. A glass receives water and cannot prevent it. The wind receives the wind blowing through it, yet did not invite or direct it. Such is everyone that is born of the Spirit.¹ Jn 3:8 They have received the free gift of eternal life, while they were yet dead.
