New Feature on Posterous: Add A Page Break To Your Posts

Hi everyone! I'm Adam. I'm one of the newest members of the Posterous team. I blog about user interfaces, food, and stuff that should go back to Berkeley, among other things. I'm very excited to meet all of you.

Anyways, I'd like to announce a new feature we just added: page breaks. Now you can add a page break to your posts so your list pages only show a shortened version of the full post, with a link to read more.

You can do this in two ways:

In the web editor, click the "Page Break" icon (pictured below)

If you are posting via email, just add "#more" to a new line in your message

As always, we appreciate your feedback on new features!

"Too big to fail" financial services institutions have crashed the U.S. economy, throwing millions out of work, collapsing retirement funds and college savings accounts, and forcing many hard-working Americans into homelessness and poverty.

Due to the complexity of the financial issues and the lack of clear avenues for input, average citizens have had zero role in shaping the policy solutions being proposed by government and industry, even as we are stuck footing the bill for the largest Bankster bailout in history.

If you want to rein-in the Banksters and make sure they never get a chance to do it again, join us. We want www.BanksterUSA.org to be your go-to site for updates on the financial services re-regulation fight in Congress and for progressive net-roots campaigning against the big boys on Wall Street.

We are in a big hole and it is going to take big ideas to get us out of it. We will follow the debates in Congress and update our website with new information and concrete action items on a weekly basis. But we will also launch public education campaigns to put bigger reform ideas on the table, ideas like:

* a new Glass-Steagall Act for a new century ("Break Up the Banks")

* a financial transaction tax ("Repo the Dough"), and

* credit allocation policies ("Putting Wall Street to Work for Main Street.")

Ning Announces: Now live ~ Post directly to your Facebook Page!

Following fast on the heels of last week’s launch of branded Facebook sharing for your members, we’re happy to announce that Network Creators and administrators can now post directly to a Facebook Page — formerly a “Fan Page” — from a Ning Network.

The initial Facebook release made it easy for your members to share content from your Ning Network with their Facebook friends, and do it in a way that’s branded with your Ning Network name and logo. However, many Network Creators noted that they have popular Facebook Pages that they want to be able to post to easily, and now you can do just that.

To get started, just click on the “Settings” link on the right side of any page on your Ning Network. Then, click “Connections.” There, if you’re a Network Creator or administrator, you’ll see a brand-new option to “Post to a Facebook Page instead”:

Then, simply select your preferred Facebook Page from the list of all Facebook Pages you administer.

Once you’ve selected the Facebook Page, every time you click on a Facebook link or send your status to Facebook, you will be posting as your selected Facebook Page, instead of your personal profile. It’s easy to switch between the two — just head back to the Connections page — where you’ll need to choose which account you’d like to like to post to.

After choosing to post to a Facebook Page, just click a Facebook link on a piece of content, just as you did to share content with your Facebook friends.

Click “Publish,” and the story will be posted to your Facebook Page.

Hopefully, this makes it even easier to tap into Facebook to grow your audience and reach more people. Now, while your members share your content with their friends, you can keep your Facebook fans in the loop, too!

Google Acquires Picnik Photo Editor

FriendFeed vs Facebook Interactivity

I've always been a big fan of the FriendFeed service. But since Facebook bought out FriendFeed, it's slowly becoming a ghost town and interaction is going down. Even despite the downward spiral, if you post the right sort of interesting things on FriendFeed or post things in the right FriendFeed rooms (if you're not popular), you can still get a lot more interaction on FriendFeed.

Here's an example of something I posted on FriendFeed about "How to Tell if your Cat is Plotting to Kill You"

Note all the "likes" and comments!

Can my Addiction to Blogging Generate Full Time Income?

That's the question I'm pondering. I love blogging, have a lot of blogs and post a lot - hence the "Prolific" blogger title. Blogging is my favorite thing to do and is even therapeutic.

But I'm also a newbie. So, for me it's going to take a long time. Breaking income goals into bite size pieces helps me view it more as a possibility.

Problogger emphasizes "blogging for money is neither quick nor is it easy money." Wise words everyone should heed!

In my opinion, that's where a lot of people will drop off. Too many people are looking for quick and easy money (a fantasy that doesn't realistically exist).

He notes "I didn’t achieve this milestone until I’d been blogging for over 2 years (I blogged for the first year without trying to make money)."

I'm encouraged because one of my strengths is that I have a great deal of perseverance and I don't expect anything to be quick and easy. I've cultivated this strength by sticking with my Uppercase Living Decor business despite numerous failures and mistakes while watching lots of people fall by the wayside. I'm my own worst skeptic and this proves to ME that I can do it.

What do you think? Can addiction to blogging help someone eventually earn a living wage?

How to Import an External Blog into Notes on Facebook

If you want to import your blog posts into Facebook Notes, here's a brief overview and illustration on how to do that:

Click on Settings in the upper right corner of your Facebook page
Under Facebook Applications and Features, select Notes
Select Importing and Exporting Notes
Under Questions and Answers from Facebook, select How do I import entries from an external blog?

To get to the direct page on Facebook (shown below) to import your blog posts into Facebook Notes, go to http://www.facebook.com/editnotes.php?import

After I entered the URL of my blog, I confirmed and it took only a few minutes for my blog entries to be imported (I only had a few entries since it was a new blog). For any questions or problems with importing notes, go to the Notes Help Section for more information.

My Favorite Twitter Client: HootSuite

The most efficient, easy to use Twitter client to use in my opinion is Hootsuite. I can organize my activity into columns, making it easier to focus without too many distractions. Lots of cool features have been rolling out, one of which is file sharing.

HootSuite is the first major Twitter client to support this exciting feature. Similar to picture uploading, you must instead click the document icon. HootSuite supports many document formats: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, Photoshop, and MP3 files. As with pictures, links to files are trackable with HootSuite’s custom analytics. Easy Blogging with Google Sidewiki

One of the main reasons why I love the Google Sidewiki is because it makes it so easy to blog. After installing it to the Google toolbar, you can simply comment on a web page you're visiting in the Sidewiki and post your comments to Blogger at the same time. Fast, easy and efficient.

It's Official: I'm leaving TypePad for Blogger

I've been trying out all kinds of blogging platforms - Blogger, Squarespace, Wordpress.com, Typepad, and probably others I can't remember right now. Although I haven't tried the self-hosted Wordpress, I do plan to at some point, just not right now.

I actually do like all the blogging platforms, but none are 100% perfect. For a number of reasons, Blogger is the right choice for me. It fits everything I need right now.

Here's the three main reasons I choose Blogger:

Cost. I don't have enough funds right now to sink into anything at all such as yearly fees, hosting or anything else.
Time. I have even less of that. No time for a learning curve whatsoever. Too much going on in my life and I need to get down to business!
Google Sidewiki. This may not make sense right now, but I can see amazing value in using Sidewiki to post to our blogs on Blogger. As time goes on, I believe this will get clearer to more people.

Typepad is nice, but their templates are not easily customizable at all. After much wrangling and struggling to get everything to work, I finally threw in the towel. I simply don't have time to struggle with anything.

Which blogging platform do you use? I'd love to hear your thoughts and insights on the various blogging platforms.
