As you can see I decided to buy the i-Pod Touch based on the overwhelming recommendations on this blog and from speaking to friends. Bought the 32GB version from Alghanim for KD112 (I had a KD20 voucher so paid KD92)- they threw in a free Philips CD/radio alarm clock (which also has a connector for the i-Pod but no snooze button !!) and a KD 5 voucher which I used to buy the (apprently essential) rubber case to protect the i-Pod.

What first struck me about my i-Pod was how incredibly thin and light it is. Its practically flat ! I was however surprised with the little documentation that came with it though. Luckily I had read on Amazon that it needed to be charged for a whole 2 hours before being used, otherwise I would not have known. I have a ton of music so as first step had to transfer them all to i-Tunes which took a lot less time than I thought.  As I have far more music than space I couldn’t just automatically sync all the songs at once to the device, so had to select the albums I wanted – again this was a piece of cake.

Once I uploaded all the songs, the first pleasnt surprise is that you can hear the music without the headphones! Ok its not very loud but a nice feature. Browsing music is a breeze using the touch screen and super easy. I then watched a video clip on the Touch and the screen is big enough to actually watch something for more than just a few minutes. 

I then used the email function. It took 30 seconds to set up and I was able to view and send emails on Yahoo (using my home’s wi-fi). Even better is the i-Pod Touch’s web browser to surf the net – what a joy !

So I started off buying the i-Pod Touch to have the best mp3 player. What I got was not only a fantastic mp3 player with a touch screen, but as close as you can get to the ultimate gadget (probably bettered only by the i-Phone). I am so happy with this !!

Any recommendations for cool apps for my new i-Pod Touch are highly appreciated !!

I think Dorito’s ran a competition asking people to put forward their home made commercials. This is one that got aired after counting votes from the public. The little kid is hilarious

The Dubai Jazz Festival starts next week and looking at the line up, I’ve got to say there are some pretty impressive singers performing. The pick of the bunch has to be James Morrisson, but David Gray has some brilliant songs and I’ve been listening to Laura Izibor’s great soulful album for a while. So if I was going to pick one night to attend, it would be the last night (19 Feb).

Regular Tickets for each night are AED 275 with front seat tickets a pretty reasonable AED 575.

After years of resisting the iPod – I have decided to make the switch. (I have a Sony MP3 Walkman which I bought a couple of years ago and a Creative player before that by the way) . The switch is long overdue I hear some of you say. Yes, I would agree. It all started when I was uploading songs on to my friend’s iPod Classic. Just loved everything about it from the iTunes software which I used for the first time to the ease of choosing songs on the iPod itself to all the accessories available.

So i decided to use my KD20 voucher from Xcite electronics towards buying an iPod. But which one? I don’t want the Nano or the Shuffle, so I am left with a choice of the slightly cheaper Classic with its massive 160GB (total HD of my laptop !!) or the iPod Touch which “only” has 32 GB ( or 64GB for extra KD50), but is touch screen and has Wi-Fi.

What do you guys think ? iPod Touch or Classic?  Guide me oh wise experienced iPod users….

Last weekend I went to P.F. Chang’s Kuwait for the second time for dinner. The first time I thought it was pretty good, but wanted to go again before I wrote a review. As I’m sure a lot of you have already been to this restaurant this is going to be a shorter restaurant review than the others – you could call it ‘bite-size’ review :)

The big difference this time round was that it was busy but there were tables available. Last time I had to put my name down at 7:30pm as it was full and had to wait half an hour ! I suppose the newness and novelty has worn off a bit.

The Food :

Here’s a run down on what I tried

Appetizers 

Dynamite Shrimp

Served in a prawn cocktail glass this was lightly fried prawns covered in a yellow spicy sauce. This might be too spicy for some (for me it was just within the acceptable limits), but it was really, REALLY  good !

Mains

Dali Chicken

This was strips of chicken breast with grilled potatoes and mean looking red hot chili peppers (not the rock group).  This was cooked perfectly and even though its advertised as being spicy it really wasn’t (unless you ate one of the chilis). Again, this dish was a winner.

Wok Charred Beef

Strips of steak stir fried with green peppers and mushrooms. Well cooked and tasty,but as it was not in a sauce it felt a little dry. Comes with a small bowl of your choice of brown or white rice.

Vegetable Noodles

These were as good as I have had here in Kuwait. Not wet and soggy, not greasy, just perfect.

Dessert

After all that food, it was good to see that PF Changs had understood that most people have a limit on how much they can eat and so they offered mini versions of their desserts in a glass. These were OK but the chocolate one that I had didn’t taste like it was prepared on that day.

Green Tea

A special mention for the Green Tea which is very good and is served in a huge heavy iron tea pot. Highly recommended after eating so much wonderful food.

Prices

Considering the amount (portions are really big) and quality of food, the prices are very reasonable. Most main dishes cost KD 5 but they could easily feed two, probably even three. So its excellent value for money.

Atmosphere

Very good. Upscale and trendy but not stuffy. Seating is comfortable and tables are well spaced out so you can have a proper conversation. I remember the music being good but not too loud – which again is a plus point. You would be happy to spend your evening here.

Overall

While its not a traditional Chinese restaurant, P.F. Chang’s is one of the best dining experiences you will get in Kuwait. The large menu covers all tastes from sea food to duck to beef to vegetarian. And its not dominated by sweet and sour dishes which is often the case in Chinese restaurants.P.F. Chang’s Kuwait has top quality food at very good prices in a great atmosphere. Highly Recommended! ***** (5/5)

A couple of tips

1- Portion size is BIG – be careful how much you order !!

2- Try to get a table in a booth. They are more comfortable and worth the wait.

This is one of the first shoes out from the Emporio Armani-Reebok partnership and its called the ‘Mega Chic’. Hate  the name but love the look of the shoes. Its basically a classic Armani leather shoe that has a sporty touch with the special Reebok DMX heel and sole. I could see this going well with a suit as well as jeans. The downside is that they won’t be available until July and from Emporio Armani stores only.

One thing’s for sure, they’re definitely a lot better than the last shoes I posted about ! [LINK]
