Well, I can hear y'all saying...really? Another post about the failing of the public educational system...

You bet! It appears to be at the front of my mind on a daily basis, because it freaking has to be. Our schools sent home this ridiculously vague survey regarding year round vs. traditional school calendars. It was a crock and half, and that was about it. It didn't address the true concerns that come with this stuff, such as walking several blocks in blistering heat through out the summer months, or the fact that only our elementary schools practice a year round school, which makes life hella crazy when trying to plan for day care. And those are just a few of my complaints.

But what really prompted this complaint fest tonight is the fact that I cannot seem to get a teacher (who is a public servant paid by my tax dollar I might add) to return a phone call or an email. It isn't that hard, it can be done in a few minutes and my only need was a few tips on how to help my daughter with her current curriculum, which for Kindergarten really can't be that darn hard, right? Now mind you, I emailed her, which means she can email me back just as easily during that hour she has twiddling her thumbs while my daughter learns Spanish...but alas, no phone call, no email, no help to be found.

It seems that the only way I can get any kind of result at all is to show up unannounced in the Principals office first thing on Monday morning. Which means I miss my morning coffee...which means I will be really cranky...see where this is going?

Really, is it that hard to do the job you are paid for by my tax dollar?!

While most of us sit helplessly, wondering how to help those who are affected by the earthquake in Haiti, Reverend Pat Robertson sits and makes an ass out of himself. It boggles the mind that he would blame this disaster on his belief that Haitians swore a pact to the devil many years ago. Maybe they did...but the fact is that bad things happen, period.

There is no ulterior motive, no higher power that is punishing a country of people for something that their ancestors may have done. God is supposedly the all forgiving, higher being, correct? If this is the case, God would not throw an entire country to the mercy of a freaking natural disaster. Ignorance is bliss, and there are times when I find that certain people such as Robertson open their mouths and speak without thinking about the consequences. It is fine to preach the word of God, it's great to listen if you believe there is a heaven, a hell, a God and a Devil. But in my oh so humble opinion, Robertson should his preaching skill to good use by asking his followers to help this country and their people.

We all tend to cast stones, speak out of turn and say crazy things. Perhaps we should remember that Karma is a bitch. What comes around, goes around boys and girls. Robertson should remember the bible and do unto others as he would have done unto him.
