So excited for our first ever show at Johnny D's *(a club we've been seeing shows at, eating brunch at, and generally loving since daddy Bush ruled the lands. (shhh we're oldish))

Its a great bill with out friends Preacher Roe, Tad Overbaugh and the Late Arrivals and a reunion of sorts of Golden West Motor Lodge! Its going to be good - Friday May 24, 8pm Johnny D's - be there!

Thanks so much to The Apartment, Jeff Byrd & Dirty Finch, and to everyone who came out for our Providence debut! We had a blast and hope to return soon!

Next though are two shows in two nights with one of our favorite bands out there - The Shellye Valauskas Experience!

We're playing with them on Friday April 19 in New Haven, CT at Cafe 9, and then on Saturday, 4/20 at Arlene's Grocery in New York City - we always have a great time in New York and with a slightly later time slot (9pm) we hope to see a bunch of you there! (come early though as Shellye plays at 7!).
This will be our first time in Connecticut - and we are looking forward to it!

Providence This Saturday!

After what was defiitely one of our favorite home town shows ever we return to our exploration of New England this week. Saturday night at The Apartment Nightclub The Rationales make our Rhode Island debut. Come check it out - we are playing with our pals from the Americana Fest, Jeff Byrd and Dirty Finch as well as new friend Toby Singer. It all starts early with Toby on at 7:30. We hit the stage around 8:30 and Jeff rounds out the night at 930.

We hear the Apartment is always a good time and we know from past show-going experience that Providence is a great city to see music in.

We hope you can make it out. It is our last area show for a while as next we are off to New Haven, CT and Arlene's Grocery in NYC.

Finally - just a word about last week - we can't thank Walter Sickert and the ARmy of BRoken TOys, The Field Effect, Ruby Rose Fox, The Brighton Music Hall, Indie Rock Ranger and as always - ALL of you who came out to support us and have a great time rocking with the other bands as well. It was a magical night and definitely the largest crowd (400+) that we've yet played to. We are already working on brewing up another BIG DEAL return to Boston for sometime over the summer - stay tuned for word on that one.

Brighton Music Hall is Tonight!!

Tonight is finally Here!! We play on an amazing bill at Brighton Music Hall! Read all about it in the previous post but what you need to know is this - if you are coming :

the doors open at 8pm.
Tickets will be available at the door early in the evening - but why take a chance - grab them early in the day from Ticketmaster.
KEEP IN MIND - Ticketmaster cuts off online sales early on the day of the actual show so if you find that Ticketmaster no longer has tix, it does not mean you've been shut out of the show - I'm of the understanding that there will be at least 100 tickets to sell at the club in person. Head down early - grab your tickets, grab a bite at one of the fine Allston dining establishments, and then settle in for a great night of music.
The show is 18+ so bring your kid brothers, sisters and/or barely legal lovers, just hopefully none of those categories overlap.
All 4 bands are definitely worth seeing and diverse from one another - please come early and stay until the end.

i think that about covers it. Come out, see great bands, Support the ARmy of BRoken TOys by picking up a copy of their phenomenal new Record - it is awesome - you won't regret it! And send them off on tour with a bang!

We can't believe it is upon us... but we couldn't be happier - our first Boston show of 2013 - our first time at BMH, our first time playing with Walter Sickert & the ARmy of BRoken TOys, we are playing some new songs for the first time. (i sense a theme).

It really does seem likely to sell out early so please - if you want to be there (and you DO!) grab tix early at the BMH box office (no service fee) or via ticketmaster (convinience, yo!) . But do grab tickets - we want you there with us - (we need you singing along!)

One change from the poster is that Glenn Yoder is unable to join us so we are excited to be playing with Shanta Paloma. Its going to be a great night and we hope to see you there!

Such huge gratitude to Ralph's, The Field Effect, Preacher Roe and GrandEvolution for making last night happen - huge thanks to everyone who came out - it was great to play to a full room, especially considering the short-notice nature of the show - we really appreciate you being there, staying and most of all - rocking along with us!

Next up on our "stay the hell out of the woolworths (until 3/23 at Brighton Music Hall) tour" is a stop next saturday - Feb 9 at Gulu Gulu in Salem, MA - Gulu is always a fun, low key, no cover, stretched out show and we're psyched to be sharing the bill with former (and always) Rationale John Maloney and his new band The Rotary Prophets! - come have a craft beer, great sandwich or life giving coffee - but be there - 8pm - Midnight - it'll be fun. we promise!

Coincidentally The Rationales played Gulu Gulu LAST Feb 9 and we all know how that turned out.

We have a bunch of shows coming up in Central and Western MA, and our first ever shows in NH and RI. We're really excited and playing with some great bands along the way. We'll be visiting Manchester, NH; Worcester, MA; Salem, MA; Northampton, MA; Providence RI and NYC.

The Rationales open for Walter Sickert & the ARmy of BRoken TOys CD Release show for their amazing new record "Soft Time Traveler". Also on this amazing bill are The Field Effect and Ruby Rose Fox.

We can't say enough about the quality of this bill. Walter Sickert & the Army blow us away every damn time we see them - just an onslaught of bluesy-rocking-stomping-swagger that is part gypsy folk, part Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and all awesome. The Field Effect are a powerhouse of indie pop, great songs, incredible energy and a delivery that is both LOUD and FUN. You won't soon forget them or their songs. Ruby Rose Fox's genre bending lounge-pop style has been described as one part Leonard Cohen, one part Patti Smith, one part Roy Orbison.

Its going to be an amazing night, (and,

incidentally, is your only Boston area chance to see The Rationales before the summer is knocking on the door as we're hunkered down working on our next record.) We really hope to see you there.

Absolutely am ROCKED this morning after hearing great sets by 2 of my favorite bands in Boston and now one of my favorite in Brooklyn NY as well. Velah absolutely killed me - just great songs, great energy, so awesome - Freddy Hall & The Best Intentions were amazing - fun, tight power pop with more hooks than a pirate convention. Chad Raleigh joins The Rationales!

We are really excited to announce that Chad Raleigh has joined The Rationales!

We've all been fans of him and his guitar playing from afar for years in his band Trucker Mouth, and with them in an inactive period at the moment, it has freed him up to come aboard.

Come see him at his first Boston area show* as the lead guitarist of The Rationales Friday, November 16 at Radio on a show that had already promised to be monumental just based on the lineup (Velah, The Field Effect, Freddy Hall & the Best Intentions) - now it is even more so with it being the debut of Chad!

((*Technically his first show with the band will be Sat, Nov. 10 in Portland, ME - should you want to roadtrip up for that and start some sort of streak of never missing a Rationales show again!))

Its Been an Amazing Couple of Weeks!

We just finished playing 6 shows in two weeks - not a lot for some bands/touring bands - but it was more than we've done in a while - and we loved every minute of it - So many good nights (and days) and so many friends - From the great crowd in Salem to the insane debauchery of the Radio One year birthday party last night - it was fantastic. Thanks so much to Aimee and Radio for the show and for a great club and a great year - here's to many many more! Thanks as well to Nicole and Johnny Anguish for the Bands for Babs Shows, to the Vivs and Josh at Tommy Doyles, Kier and Northeastern, Brendan and The Grownup Noise, and all our friends from yesterday - Oldjack, The Field Effect, Sidewalk Driver, Mello Bravo, Streight Angular, Parlor Bells, Cancer Killing Gemini, The Acrobrats, Cocked & Loaded and so many more!

And as always - to everyone who was there rocking out with us anywhere along the line! Thanks!

Now its a couple of weeks of polishing up some more new tunes, getting ready to get back in the studio soon and prepping for some great shows in November -

Thanks to our friends, new and old in Salem for coming out and warming the cozy environs of Gulu Gulu Cafe on a cool rainy New England evening last night - we had a blast!

Thanks to Liz Cook for opening the night. So good!

We got to play a nice LONG set which had us debuting a couple of new songs - digging out some old gems, and trying our luck at covers ranging from Fake Plastic Trees to Love Shack and more. (some of this is not true).

It was a great precursor to a huge show we're playing this coming week - THIS THURS, (Oct 4) at RADIO in Union Square - we are part of a dream bill - The Rationales with Brendan Boogie's new roots/soul outfit The Broken Gates - and our 2012 Rumble pals The Grownup Noise. Its a nice early night at Radio and will be your last chance to see our pal Pete as a Rationale. It promises to be a really fun night and its only $5 - we really hope to see you.

NE Americana Fest starts tomorrow! We play Sat!

The Fest is 3 nights of music in 5 venues with over 50 bands!

The Rationales are Opening for the Wooden Sky - Sun Aug 19

One of our favorite bands, Toronto's The Wooden Sky are coming back to Boston again, and we couldn't be happier about it.

We are joining them on a killer bill (with our pals in Airport) at Radio on Sunday Aug 19 for a night of killer indie rock, power-pop, americana and all around good times. You will want to see these guys if you haven't - as for the Rationales, we just got a great review in the Phoenix of our show last week at the Middle East, and we'll be playing lots of new songs and old favorites. Its going to be a blast.

Anyone who has seen the Wooden Sky needs no urging to check them out. They absolutely destroyed at Radio in May - now they're back. They were just signed to the European label Loose Music and have an amazing collection of video's from their latest record available online (see here). An explosive live act with amazing songs they are clearly on their way. You really will want to say you saw them when.
