And the junk man cometh. Yesterday I shared that WAMU had been redelegated to the junk bond status by the S & P, and it seems that even junk can sonetimes be a good buy as JP Morgan / Chase scoops it up from the FDIC for $1.9 Billion. But dont forget theye're writing off over $31 Billion in debt on top of that. By the way, this was the largest bank failure in history! Heres a fun friday fact, the U.S. mint has suspended the sale of 24 kerat gold cons. People are scared and think that stores of gold, silver, diamonds and the like are the only true way to insure their finances.

Another mighty playe falls from grace as Washington Mutual,WAMU, one of the strongest players out there, has their standard & poor rating put into junk bond territory. Many of you in the west may recall that wamu was the purchaser of Home Savings Bank, a former high flyer in the last real estate frenzy market Jobless claims pushed to a 7 year high. For the week ending september 20. Jobles claims rose by 32,000 to a seasonally adjusted 493,000. Much higher than the projected 445,000

I know i've been on vacation and it seems like not a damn thing has gone on. Oh yeah except that the economy has faltered, we've taken over Fannie and freddie bailed out and AIG and oters are under the gun. Hearings on the bail out continue, and continue, and continue, meanwhile the market sits ideling waiting to fall off the fence one way or the other.

Home prices fall again in July. Prices across the nation were down a seasonally adjusted 6 tenths of one percent Down 5.3% in the last year While everyone is looking at mortgage loans the car industry is quietly melting down because banks are not financing cars as they have in the past. Oil prices fall on profit taking after huge rally yesterday. Parts of the country still have little or no gasoline after the recent hurricanes.

Federal Reserve announces that interest rates will stay UNCHANGED. Federal fund rate to remain at 2%. THe acknowledge that we are in crisis mode, but don't want to make a bad decision so they do nothing. OF COURSE California legislature finally hands te Governor a budget, its on his desk, but as of this minute he has not signed it. There is a chance that he will not sign it. We will let you know if he signs the budget or decides to send it back across the street The wall street roller coaster stays on its erratic course. The market opens big on the down side, bounces back beore the Federal Reserve announcement only to drop below the line when the FED decides to leave the loan limits in place and then jumps to the upside in late trading fueled by the rumors that AIG might get some help from the government with a short term bridge loan

Hurricane Gustav blows by New Orleans, still caused $10 Billion in damages, but the oil markets are extatic that the damage wasnt worse. The results, oil prices grazing just above the $100 barrel mark, the lowest since April 4th Federal Beige Book report says the economy is still slowing, but there is some price relief and more is expected in the near future
