…or more to the point, what will it be?

I have suggested that Web 1.0 could be described in one word….Availability…meaning that in the beginning (sounds so long ago) websites were simply “Online Brochures”, they supplied visitors with information about what you do, where you do it, and how to find you.

Web 2.0 could be described with…Transparency…meaning the walls between you and your potential client were beginning to become transparent, they were able to see and understand so much more about you form your chat, your Tweets, your Facebook ect…They were also able to communicate with you through these same new technologies.

Now we begin to look at what Web 3.0 will look like. Why? Simple, if you are not ahead of the technology curve, you are behind and I mean WAY BEHIND! It was almost 3 years ago, when I suggested to some friends of mine in Real Estate to begin to look into Blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Social Networking as a whole as well as some very cool tech tools like MLBroadcast, Trulia, Postlets, and many more. Now those things are either “mainstream” , “passe”, or have morphed into something even cooler In any event, if you are just now getting into these cool technologies, you are BEHIND! the best and brightest amongst us have already mastered them and have left you in the dust!

I like to think ahead, and thinking ahead right now means asking that question…What is Web 3.0 going to look like? I believe that the one word definition of Web 3.0 will be…Predictability…meaning that web presence’s will be riddled with predictability! They will know the answer before it is asked, they will provide information that the client didn’t even know they wanted, but they did! They will bring the client directly to the answer based on the actual need of the client, even if they didn’t even know it!

What does this look like in a practical sense? Follow along this scenario with me, I will use something very “common”, not really associated with Real Estate, so everyone can say “AH HA!” “I get what he means”

Our cars, our phones, and other electronic devices are equipped with GPS. This is a cool little feature that allows us to use our Navigation devices, set up map details, keep from getting lost, find cool lil stores, ect…but they are also leaving (creating) digital footprints of everything we do, everywhere we go. Our cell phone accounts have our ss# associated with them, so they can draw a clear picture of who we are from the information available via that ss#. Our income, our neighborhood, our education…starting to get it? The Internet now knows what I can afford, what I like to buy, what I drive, where I live, and with the GPS, now knows everywhere I go, and everything I do, via digital footprint. So if I am prone to buy Lexus automobiles, and I have an income of over $80,000 a year, and I drive down a particular street each day to get to work, and I buy new cars every 2.3 years, and I stop in at the Starbucks on the corner of 1st and Vine every weekday (See it, see it? Wait for it!) The local Lexus dealer will be placing advertising on the street I drive and in the Starbucks I visit 2.3 years after I bought my last car!

I can hear the skeptics amongst you right now, just as I heard the skeptics 3 years ago saying that Twitter, and Facebook were stupid kids stuff! The advertisements will be virtual in nature and specific to each driver, not just me. They will come in the form of holygrams..they will appear on navigation screens, and PDA’s they will come on my Starbucks receipt and the Guy or Gal behind me will get an ad for Irish Spring soap, because it has been 4.1 months since the last time he bought it at the Supermarket! SEE IT?

Now go back again and listen to Kevin Kelly’s YouTube video, and start to believe that WEB 3.0 = Predictabilty and start thinking about how you can use this to capture Market Share! There are some great ways to do it and we will be looking at them over the next 18 months to help you get started.

For now…Think! Use the Noodle! Have an open mind, and get ahead of the curve. Have any thoughts? leave a comment, love to hear them

Stay Blogging My friends! …

… And this thought pops into my head; about 20 years ago I remember visiting my cousin, Blaire LaCote, at one of his 1st jobs out of College at Autodesk ( he has since become one of the brightest young minds on the Internet, out of The Tuck Business School at Dartmouth, you can read more about him here), Anyway, he was working on a little known program called Auto Cad, which is now one of the preeminent ”Virtual Reality” type 3D Engineering softwares used today by millions of Engineers, Architects, and Builders. Why am I stating this? My thoughts around Web 3.0 are numerous, and on this blog tend to focus around Real Estate related information, so I started to put together this widely accepted software with currently used methodologies surrounding Virtual Tours, and pictured a ”True” 3 Dimensional, Virtual Reality, HD Video tour through a listing. It could be accessed through any website, Internet devise, and even Smartphones to give tomorrows (and even today’s) discriminating Buyers an experience so close to being there, they would swear they were! Heck, you could even narrate it for maximum effect.

To me, that’s what web 3.0 could offer. Along with the scary stuff like, digital footprinting, facial recognition identification (Think about Googles latest release, Google Goggles) and GPS location tracking, that can be used for purposes that are borderline illegal and unconstitutional.

I believe Web 3.0 will be partially focused on Consolidation, Filtering of so much useless noise, and a marriage of currently used applications to create a more useful and time specific enviroment, as I gave in the example above.

So think along with me here, and on Zillow’s Geek Estate Blog, as we explore this very interesting and controversial topic of Web 3.0 and more importantly, what will it look like?

Tell me what you think?

Read a great post from a new favorite of mine, Jonathan Fields of JonathanFields.com, it reminded me of the comments I get every time I start to talk about Blogging to Real Estate Agents. Here is the “Typical” Bloggers morning, according to Jonathan…

5:30am – Check overnight stats, start writing a post

5:35 – Check twitter

5:39 – Work on post, full steam ahead

5:40 – Check twitter

5:41 – Recommit to post, enough with the twitter thing

5:42 – Check Facebook

5:44 – Make coffee…and check twitter on iPhone while hovering over pot

5:55 – Look at toes…was my middle toe always longer than the second?

6:06 – Contemplate life

6:06:30 – Check stats

6:07 – Solve cold fusion

6:08 – Start new post on the best blend of coffee to solve cold fusion

6:11 – Check twitter, man, everyone must be pissed I haven’t said hi in nearly 17 minutes

6:12 – Still don’t get why navels don’t heal and vanish, like any other booboo

6:13 – Ask twitter followers if they have any insight on navel issue

6:14 – Retweet saucy twitter influencer’s tweet so they like me better

6:15 – Work on post about how social media can become a huge time sink if you don’t batch your time

6:22 – Feel inauthentic about post on batching social media, check popurls, reddit and digg for better idea

6:28 – Holy crap, never checked twitter for answers about the navel question, jump to tweetdeck, ahhhh

6:34 – Bring iphone to kitchen so as not to abandon the internets while making health shake for breakfast

6:37 – Suck down shake through tiny pink straw, using cheek muscles to burn more calories

6:40 – Throw on Welcome Back Kotter t-shirt.

6:42 – Meditate

6:42:02 Approve and reply to comments

6:51 – Read other blogs on google reader and share special ditties on twitter, facebook and stumbleupon

6:56 – Morning yoga

6:57 – Cool down and reflect on how much better body feels

6:58 – Wake up the girls and get their days going

7:00 – 90 minutes of hardcore blogging and content creation done, time to switch to macbook pro, head over to Starbucks and search forums for answer to navel issue…this could be a killer book!

While you can not help but see the humor in this insane Bloggers Time Management, you must also see the real world fears of Real EState Agents attempting this for the first time!

My advise is, and will continue to be, “Take it Slow”! Write about your passion. Write about something “hyper local”, as the newest buzz phrase states. Focus on one thing, and do it well! But, by all means, DO IT! It is truly a lot of fun.

Read a great post today at BuzzEdition.com, here is an excerpt from it that I feel is very important…

What Does Twitter Consider Spam ?

You may not use the Twitter service for the purpose of spamming anyone. What constitutes “spamming” will evolve as Twitter responds to new tricks and tactics by spammers. Some of the factors that are taken into account when determining what conduct is considered to be spamming are listed below, with entries for those you are probably least aware of in italics.

* If you have followed a large amount of users in a short amount of time;

* If you have followed and unfollowed people in a short time period, particularly by automated means (aggressive follower churn);

* If you repeatedly follow and unfollow people, whether to build followers or to garner more attention for your profile;

* If you have a small number of followers compared to the amount of people you are following;

* If your updates consist mainly of links, and not personal updates;

* If a large number of people are blocking you;

* The number of spam complaints that have been filed against you;

* If you post duplicate content over multiple accounts or multiple duplicate updates on one account;

* If you post multiple unrelated updates to a topic using #;

* If you post multiple unrelated updates to a trending or popular topic;

* If you send large numbers of duplicate @replies;

* If you send large numbers of unsolicited @replies in an attempt to spam a service or link;

* If you add a large number of unrelated users to lists in an attempt to spam a service or link;

* If you repeatedly post other users’ Tweets as your own;

* If you have attempted to “sell” followers, particularly through tactics considered aggressive following or follower churn;

* Using or promoting third-party sites that claim to get you more followers (such as follower trains, sites promising “more followers fast,” or any other site that offers to automatically add followers to your account).

the world is changing. We are living online now. Even Twitter has rules about “Buggin”. Be careful, be engaged, and be a part of it!

Stay Blogging My Friends!

Nice post on Google Wave by Chris Brogan. While I do think it’s too soon for my Guys to be utilizing the assets of Google Wave, which is in essence a historical view of multiple voice conversations on the same subject, I do love the concept. Chris however, did make a great point, that I have been telling you Guys for a while….

In fact, when I look at my online ecosystem, here’s what I do where:

Facebook: connect with friends and family.

LinkedIn: share professional networks.

Twitter: communicate in real time, and find the new good stuff.

Google Wave: work on the future.

While reading a mini-blog by MyEastBayAgent, on his Posterous Blog, I was struck by one particular aspect…MATH!!! Read this excerpt and you tell me what doesn’t compute?

Bank of America expects to release about 6,000 foreclosed properties into the Nevada housing market in 2010, or about 500 a month, an executive with the bank said Wednesday.

Throughout the country, estimates of homes being taken back by Bank of America range from 11,000 to 14,000 a month in the early part of this year to 29,000 to 35,000 by November and December, said John Ciresi, vice president

Ah, HELLO?! release 500 per month, yet you accumulated an average of 20,000 per month! WTH???? and this is good for our economy how? What happens when that other…Oh, I don’t know, 200,000 homes “dumps” onto the market? My Kindergartener knew the answer…”It will be alot!”..Duh! A lot of low cost inventory, to slow appreciation for years to come..

…Give me your thoughts?

Great advice from Alex Wilhelm of TheNextWeb.com…

Twitter has put up the blog post on the subject saying that:

We’ve found that the power of suggestion can be a great thing to help people get started, but it’s important that we suggest things relevant to them. We’ve created a number of algorithms to identify users across a variety of clusters who tweet actively and are engaged with their audiences. These new algorithms help us group these active users into lists of users by interests. Rather than suggesting a random set of 20 users for a new user to follow, now we let users browse into the areas they are interested in and choose who they want to follow from these lists. These lists will be refreshed frequently as the algorithms identify new users who should be suggested in these lists and some that are not as engaging to new users will be removed.

This is what it looks like…

Tools like this, while perhaps a bit self-indulging, can be very helpful to “Newbies”. Many Social Networks use tools like this, so explore when you join!

Nice post by Adam Singer of The Social Buzz. Adam’s point is clear, Social Media Certification is, in his words absurd! In my words, Criminal! here is an excerpt of what Adam said…

“This brings us to today’s topic: the notion of “certification” in social media. It’s absurd. The idea of training in using social tools kind of makes sense, I understand some require hands-on assistance as there does still exist a business digital divide (sadly). But to be certified in social media? Please.”

As I said, Adam’s word was “absurd”, mine is “criminal”. Why? Simple, in a time where so many people are hungry to understand what SM is, and what it could mean to their business (Example #1, I attended a REALTOR.com “seminar” errrrrr Sales Pitch! in Anaheim and over 200 poor bastards attended hoping for some good advice, and after 1 hr of it on Facebook, they then got 3 hours of BUY BUY BUY!)…Ok, I digressed. But what I meant was there is no difference today between so called “certified” “experts” in SM and the Snake Oil Salesmen of yester year!

There are too many of us out there who are willing to give you insight into this world, and that of the Internet, who do it because we love it. Don’t look for me to be “certified” anytime soon, I have all the Snake Oil I need!
