Heavy Rain has seen much success as a PS3 exclusive. Although its developer, Quantic Dream didn’t expect the title to pass the 1 million sold mark, it’s done 1.5 million in just a few months and many expect the game to move well past 3 – 4 million lifetime sales.

This occurrence has boosted the founder of Quantic Dream, David Cage’s confidence to high levels, and recently he’s been thinking of making the studio’s next title a multiplatform effort.

“With Heavy Rain it was right, but after Heavy Rain the question can be asked whether we should stick to one platform or open out to different platforms,” he told GI.biz.

“Now that we’re established why are we limiting ourselves to one share of the market when we can reach more? There are pros and cons and it’s not an easy decision.”

Adding: “We’re not looking at anything, we have people asking, and we’re seeing different options.”

“We’re really thankful of Sony’s support and the relationship we have because there are very few publishers that would have supported Heavy Rain the way they supported us.”

My take on this is, developers think that multiplatform obviously means more sales; but that’s certainly not the case. I hope David Cage is looking at a wider audience because of other reasons than solely the almighty dollar.

I’ve seen many games released on all formats and yet fail to sell even 2 million copies, and when you add costs of making said title available on the different platforms, you wonder if it was a profitable venture for the people and companies involved.

Let’s hope Mr. Cage knows what he’s up to.

Some gamers are purists; they rather wait until a title’s comfortably sitting in their console of choice to know story details, and watch, for themselves, how everything unfolds. They hate spoilers with a passion, and cringe at the thought of viewing leaked videos. Good for them.

Then there are gamers who don’t really care about spoilers at all. They’ll watch all the leaked videos, and get as much details possible on a title’s story. Hey, that’s just the way they choose to operate.

Capcom’s just sent us mail showing its TGS offerings, amongst the crowd, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 will also be on display.

The publisher said Devil May Cry 5 has been under development for some time now, with the game seeing a western twist to appeal more to said crowd. Another Resident Evil title’s also in the works, however we know not if the latter two will make an appearance at the biggest game show in the world.

The speculation has ended, then. Team ICO’s The Last Guardian will be present at the Tokyo Game Show.

Clap your hands, people.

The game, which has been in development since 2007, is the first title from Fumito Ueda since 2005′s Shadow of the Colossus. It’ll also be Team ICo’s first PS3 run, and before we’d even seen anything, our minds were already made up. Must buy.

Not much details have been divulged. In fact, all we know now is that there’s a boy and his animal, the two are intricately connected, and they both must work together to progress.

The Last Guardian will be shown off during a session at TGS with Fumito Ueda at 3 PM on September 16th.

In the vid, soldiers shooting and being shot at, slow music. The pianio hits one note at a time, creating a somewhat surreal aura. Fighter jets hovering above and then, suddenly, you’re hit by a missile.

Thought only us westerners will be Kinecting for the holidays? So wrong, so wrong.

Japanese people love that kind of thing, too, you know. And come November 20th, Kinect will launch in the country.

This according to Xbox Japan boss Takashi Sensui who confirmed the peripheral’s release at a press conference in Tokyo.

The camera will come bundled with Kinect Adventures for ¥14,800.

Hardware bundles consist of the camera and a 4Gb for ¥29,800, with a 250Gb flavour available for ¥39,800.

Some of the launch titles include, Kinect Sports Sonic, Free Riders, Dance and Evolution Crossboard 7.

Dr. Kawashima and Namco Bandai new game known as “Lead: New Brain Training Where You Answer With Your Body”, was also confirmed by Microsoft as a launch title.

One of the most critically acclaimed games ever created is also one of the best selling. Mass Effect 2′s unlike anything we, the western gamers have experienced, and come this winter, Japan will get its taste.

The first ME became available a year and a half after the game was released in the US, so obviously the sequel will see the light of day much earlier in the orient. Also, no details were given, but expect more concerning this at EA’s TGS presser.

There was supposed to be Final Fantasy XIII DLC, but all that’s been scrapped.

“We were planning to make some DLC, but that plan wound up not happening,” Final fantasy director Motomu Toriyama told Famitsu (via 1up) when answering a question on a comment he made before the title was released in Japan in November of 2009.

According to SE, Final Fantasy XIII’s only now being released in Japan “Because we feel that there are a lot of 360 owners worldwide, and a lot of people in Japan who own nothing but 360s,” producer Yoshinori Kitase told Famitsu.

Adding: “Thanks to the new [slim] system and such, the situation’s a lot different than it was in July 2008 [when Square Enix announced at E3 2008 that FFXIII would be PS3-exclusive in Japan].”

The International version which will only be available for the Xbox 360 will see tons of new features not available in the original, they include English voices, subtitles in all the European languages you can think of, and “My Hands” from Leona Lewis serving as the main theme song. There’s a new easy mode that increases the item drop rate and makes the game easier in other ways, and the package comes with a booklet containing art concepts, scenes from events that cut from the game, and an original novella covering some of the events that take place after FFXIII’s ending.

About the novella, Toriyama said, “The scenes we removed had to be cut for tempo-related reasons. “There’s a scene where Serah and Snow are buying a birthday present for Lightning; that got cut because showing Snow going to the bathroom didn’t really match with how serious the story was getting!”

Square-Enix confirmed this morning that the west won’t see a release of FFXIII International version, and as said version hitting the PS3 in Japan, nothing has been mentioned. Although it’d be pretty unwise if it wasn’t.

Sony was able to secure two great demos exclusively for PS Plus members, God of War: Ghost of Sparta for PSP and Pro Evolution Soccer 2011.

According to the EU PS Blog, “you and a friend can jump into a match as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chivas Guadalajara or Internacional and see how the team has improved the controls and visuals for yet another realistic football experience that is easy to jump in and play, and difficult and rewarding to master.”

For the GOW: Ghost of Sparta demo, head over to the “Plus section of the PS3 store and you will obviously find this on the PSP Store to download directly to your PSP. This demo is exclusive to you guys three weeks before it goes live on the PSP Store for everyone.”

Gameplay footage of Ghost of Sparta was also released, and judging by what’s in the vid, it’s typical God of War stuff, meaning it’s brutal as ever.

Ghost of Sparta will be available on November 2nd in the US, Sony’s yet to announce a release date for Europe. Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 will come this fall for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Following some reports hinting to the the arrival of Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 in Japan, Square-Enix has come out with solid confirmation.

It will be an international edition version of the game known as “Final Fantasy XIII Ultimate Hits Edition”, and will release on December 16th for ¥4,980, according to the latest issue of Famitsu.

Microsoft’s holding a press conference in Japan tomorrow, so hopefully more information will be released. We could also witness a bomb drop if the software giant comes out and announce Versus XIII as also coming to its console, the Xbox 360.

Final Fantasy XIII was released in November of 2009 in Japan as a PS3 exclusive, with a worldwide release date for the game coming a few months later for said platform and the Xbox 360 in March of 2010.

Square-Enix can’t be trusted on the subject matter anymore, they’ve lied one too many times about it. But what about Final Fantasy Versus XIII producer Tetsuya Nomura, what’s he got to say about the ordeal?

According to some tweets…..well, you be the judge.

“Multiplatform is when you start development on a game with the assumption of optimizing for multiple platforms,” Nomura tweeted. “Porting is something that’s done after you’ve developed a game specifically for a particular platforms. The debate over porting is decided by the management based off the current market and the costs.

All I can say right now as a developer is that Versus is being developed specifically for the PlayStation 3.”

This comes shortly after hints were given concerning a Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 release in Japan. But what does all this really mean? Will Versus XIII see an Xbox 360 release just like XIII did?

Hardcore gamers don’t play the Wii, folks say, that system’s just for kids. Who are they kidding? Nintendo’s best selling console’s just as hardcore as football fans who’ve traveled thousands of miles to support their favorite team.

And just like them, Donkey Kong Country fans are waiting for the latest installment in the awesome franchise like a princess anticipating her knight. Admiration. Or a tired workman waiting on a taxi. Just come already.

The wait won’t be too long, either, and to give yet another indication that Donkey Kong Country Returns is just around the bend, its boxart has been revealed.

It’s beautiful. There are screens also, and they too are beautiful. Donkey Kong Country returns will be out on November 21st in the US.

PlayStation Move will be coming to a store near you on September 15th in the US and on the 19th all over Europe. But before you purchase, Sony wants to make sure that you’re well versed on the motion controller.

Sometimes people mistake truth for boast, even if said truth’s uttered with utmost humility. But when there’s no going around something, whether it sounds boastful or not, it must be told.

For Sony, the racing genre “needs” GT5. Truth.

Sony’s Michael Denny told Develop that the game’s “far from looking dated, it will look state of the art,” he said.

“I think it is the game that the driving genre absolutely needs. And Gran Turismo for PlayStation will move that on again.”

The hardware giant knows it has a winner in Gran Turismo, and for them, the franchise must be kept at the highest quality.

Denny continued: “I think when you have got a game like Gran Turismo, which is THE PlayStation franchise, then you want the game to be absolutely right and to the highest quality.”

“I think that now we’ve announced the date and we know this is a Gran Turismo year, it’s not only exciting for us at PlayStation company, but for PlayStation fans and consumers. And it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. From a worldwide studio perspective, our strategy is always to concentrate on the highest quality possible.”

Adding: “We need exclusive games that differentiates our platform, Gran Turismo has always been our flagship title and I am sure it is going to be that again.”

Buy GT5 on November 2nd in the US, with Europe seeing a November 3rd release.

Over at GTPlanet, ten new off-screen videos of Gran Turismo 5 taken from the Best Buy conference in the US.

The first vid shows the title’s damage modelling system at work, with the others showing cars driving around tracks, over hills and what not.

Bethesda’s released the final dev diary for Splash Damage upcoming shooter dubbed Brink, and what can I say? It’s a game I’m actually looking forward to that I believe will be like nothing else on the market.

For one, you get to see all the effort that goes into making a videogame.
