What is Tinnitus and The American Tinnitus Association ?

  • Put simply, Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ears or head where no external source is present. Some call it “ringing in the ears” or “head noise.”
  • Tinnitus or ringing in the ears, impacts up to 50 million Americans and millions more worldwide. Most commonly caused by noise exposure, Tinnitus reduces quality of life for 250 million people worldwide.
  • Detailed information about Tinnitus and the affects of Tinnitus are available at the American Tinnitus Association web site: http://www.ata.org/for-patients/about-tinnitus
About ATA
MISSION: The American Tinnitus Association exists to cure tinnitus through the development of resources that advance tinnitus research.
There is no cure for tinnitus… yet.
We know you have found our website because you are suffering from tinnitus, or you are trying to help someone who does.

We know you are looking for a cure to end that suffering. But we want to tell you that no matter what anyone tells you, there is no cure.

About The American Tinnitus Association:

  • The American Tinnitus Association exists to cure tinnitus through the development of resources that advance tinnitus research.
  • There is no cure for tinnitus… yet.
  • ATA began with vision, compassion and a drive to help so many suffering with tinnitus who had virtually been sent home to suffer alone by practitioners who did not have the knowledge base or support they needed to adequately diagnosis and treat patients with tinnitus.
  • It was 1971, and Jack Vernon, Ph.D. , a longtime champion of tinnitus patients, was conducting clinical research at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He began treating Dr. Charles Unice, a California physician and tinnitus sufferer, and together the two founded the American Tinnitus Association. Its main goal – to raise money to fund tinnitus research – endures almost 40 years later.

The Auction Details: Up for auction is a set of all four Ghostbusters action figures, released over the course of a year in four waves by Mattel’s online only shop, MattyCollector.com. Each figure was purchased on the day of release and sold out almost instantly! These limited edition Ghostbusters figures are already fetching high coin at collector shows and local comic shops. Included is the ultra rare Egon Spengler figure, released in limited quantities at San Diego ComicCon 2009. This figure alone has sold for over $150.00 at a number of popular comic book and toy shops!

Included in the auction are rare prints, signed and illustrated by Dan Schoening, an amazing artist who is no stranger to the Ghostbusters community and someone whom I continue to thank for his amazing artwork illustrated in Cereal Geek Magazine and our own blog’s character header above. Dan was extremely generous and sent over and autographed these amazing prints to be included in the auction. Some of which you may have seen from his “13 Ghosts of Halloween” art display.

Listen… do you smell something? http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=712 http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=712#comments Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:30:59 +0000 Alex http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=712 That smell is the smell of victory! Over the last week, news hit the wire about Dan Schoening and James Eatock’s Ghostbusters comic pitch to IDW Publishing. As previously reported their pitch wasn’t successful and fans were left to wonder why? Well it seems that IDW heard us loud and clear because James Eatock posted this image and from the looks of it, good things are about to happen! I’d like to thank Dan and James for their persistance and the fans for supporting the idea.

IDW’s current Ghostbusters comics are great, and are available at your local comic shop AND on Apple’s iTunes app store for those of you who do not have a local comic shop, or simply prefer to read while on-the-go on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Needless to say, we’ll keep an eager and close eye on the progress of these comics.

Start the Presses… Please! http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=696 http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=696#comments Tue, 02 Mar 2010 02:45:27 +0000 Alex http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=696 Very few things are able to dig me out of the pile of work I’ve had the past couple of months, hence the lack of updates. However when the names Schoening and Eatock hit the news, I listen! gbdan-eatock-cover

Dan Schoening, the amazing artist responsible for our banner artwork, and James Eatock, the creator of Cereal Geek Magazine  joined together in 2009 to submit a Ghostbusters comic pitch to IDW Publishing.  Sadly the pitch was denied and we’re only left to wonder why ?

IDW has already published four sets of Ghostbusters comics, 2 mini-series and 2 one-off comic specials, all were well received and have sold well according to the local comic shops in New York City.

All the recent chatter about a third Ghostbusters movie once again has The Ghostbusters becoming a daily topic in the mainstream news. Fans both old and new are taking interest in the online Ghostbusters community sites such as ProtonCharging.com and GBFans.com, two sites that have really kept the Ghostbusters fan base alive for many years.

With an ever growing fan base, an existing comic and multiple toy lines all selling well, one may ask, perhaps now is the time for IDW Publishing to reconsider and take another look at the amazing artwork and storyboard presented by Dan and James?

The incredible 15 page pitch is available for all to see over at Dan’s deviantART site: HERE

After you’ve read through the pitch you may want to give IDW a friendly reminder and ask… maybe beg? for them to reconsider working with the right team for the job!

Weenicons announces a “Slimed – Whoyagonnacall” Figure http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=688 http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=688#comments Fri, 22 Jan 2010 19:23:30 +0000 Alex http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=688 WeeniconI’m pretty sure this isn’t an officially licensed toy line, but these look damn cool and I know I want one! The slime version of the figure is supposed to glow in the dark and it looks like the figure will be limited to a run of only 120 pieces, however there doesn’t appear to be a production limit on the non-slimed version of the “whoyagonnacall” figure which looks just as cool!

At present time only the two variations of the “whoyagonnacall” figure are out there, but based on the banner art work it looks like there may be more characters planned. Check them out at the Weenicons site

Gozerian Society shirt still available, still awesome! http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=661 http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=661#comments Sun, 13 Dec 2009 18:50:30 +0000 Alex http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=661

I recently purchased one of the greatest Ghostbusters shirts ever! The Gozerian Society shirt which was mentioned on Protoncharging.com a few months back.

gb-gozerdoors

The print quality on the shirt is second to none and the artwork is fantastic! It looks exactly like the artwork on the doors at the top of Dana Barrett’s building… The shirt is sure to be a hit during the holiday time, especially amongst fellow Ghostbusters fans!

The shirt is available at HERE at ETSY for $18.00USD and they are still taking orders for the holiday season until midnight (EST) on Sunday, December 20th

Ghostbusters Past Present Future #1 Preview Win An Advance Copy http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=649 http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=649#comments Wed, 25 Nov 2009 14:50:05 +0000 Alex http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=649 Calliopes Realm has the first 3 pages from IDW’s Ghostbusters: Past Present and Future on display and is also hosting a contest to win an advance copy of the issue.

Immediately you will notice that the art direction has changed since the Displaced Aggression mini-series, but again keeping the characters charm and wit… Read the first three pages and you’ll see what I mean ;)

Once again I find myself eagerly awaiting the comic which is scheduled to hit comic store shelves on December 9th of this year.

Head over to “Calliopes Realm” for the contest details

Dan Aykroyd, Smarter than the average bear ? http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=646 http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=646#comments Fri, 06 Nov 2009 18:58:06 +0000 Alex http://therealghostbusters.com/?p=646 While not entirely Ghostbusters related, it’s great to see Dan Aykroyd back in the saddle again.  According to this post from SlashFilm , Dan will be doing some more voice work as the voice of Yogi Bear in a hybrid live-action/computer animated feature based on the Hanna Babara animated series, Yogi Bear.

Dan has recently lent his voice to voice the character, Ray Stantz in everyone’s new favorite video game, “Ghostbusters: The Video Game“, and more recently he voiced himself in a recent episode of Family Guy. Perhaps Dan has a new found fondness for voice over work ?
