She has a 102F temp and lung congestion. She’s so weak now she can’t swallow without choking. She slept most of the day and my Dad was only able to get a small yogurt into her all day. That’s it. No liquids.

I’ll be very surprised if she’s alive in the morning, but I have been surprised before.

UPDATE: At 8PM they called and said her lungs were filling with fluid, so they put oxygen on her. Then at 12:33AM October 12th, 2008, the nursing home called to tell us she had passed away in her sleep.

I can’t imagine I’ll be posting much for awhile. I don’t know how I’m going to tell my kids. I’m going to try and get some sleep now, if that’s possible.

Man Shot 3 Times Claims He Was Gunned Down Over Pro-Obama Shirt

A British man who was shot three times on a London street claims the gunman was enraged over his Barack Obama T-shirt, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

Dube Egwuatu told the Mail he was purchasing a cell phone when a stranger started shouting racial slurs over his shirt featuring the presidential candidate’s face and the word “Believe.”

Egwuatu zipped up his jacket and headed for his car, but as he turned it on, the gunman opened the passenger side door and shot him three times, hitting him in the face, hand and shoulder.

Egwuatu managed to drive off while bleeding and call for help. A piece of metal was removed from his jaw from the attacker’s gas-powered ball-bearing pistol, the Mail reported.

“He was telling me that he was going to kill me,” Egwuatu told the Mail. “I couldn’t believe it was happening — and just because I was wearing an Obama T-shirt. He was trying to make me walk somewhere quieter, saying: ‘I’ve got something for you,’ and ‘I’m going to kill you.’”

Local police are still looking for the gunman.

Ohio Homeless Driven to Polls to Vote Obama

CLEVELAND —  Volunteers supporting Barack Obama picked up hundreds of people at homeless shelters, soup kitchens and drug-rehab centers and drove them to a polling place yesterday on the last day that Ohioans could register and vote on the same day, almost no questions asked.

The huge effort by a pro-Obama group, Vote Today Ohio, takes advantage of a quirk in the state’s elections laws that allows people to register and cast ballots at the same time without having to prove residency.

Republicans have argued that the window could lead to widespread voter fraud because officials wouldn’t have an opportunity to verify registration information before ballots were cast.

Among the volunteers were Yori Stadlin and Vivian Lehrer of the Upper West Side, who got married last week and decided to spend their honeymoon shepherding voters to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

Early today, Stadlin’s van picked up William Woods, 59, at the soup kitchen of the Bishop Cosgrove Center.

“I never voted before,” Woods said, because of a felony conviction that previously barred him from the polls. “Without this service, I would have had no way to get here.
