My Pregnancy Journal: Week 31

I don't usually write too much personal stuff about my life on this site, but I haven't shared much about my current pregnancy with my little girl and I saw this fun Linky post over at Happenings of the Harper Household and I just couldn't resist! :)

Plus, I just got some good photos of my big pregnancy belly while on vacation so I thought I would share (hope you appreciate it because I don't necessarily LOVE showing off belly pics! LOL :)

Your pregnancy: 31 weeks

How your baby's growing:

This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy.

About me & Baby Girl this week….I will be 31 weeks on Sunday!

Symptoms:

Tired, tired, tired...it is starting to feel like the first trimester all over again! Ughh..
I am also feeling HUGE but that could be from the extra weight I gained from eating all you can eat ALL DAY on our all-inclusive vacation last week! :)
Food is not sitting so well in my stomach anymore...
Getting sore if I sit too long but thankfully no swelling yet!

Weight Gain: Gained too much last week is all I am going to say. Still in a healthy range though - have gained about 21 lbs so far.

Cravings: I am always craving good pasta...like the Mac & Cheese from Noodles & Co. and Olive Garden!! And as always sugar is my biggest weakness..cookies, Dairy Queen, and the delicious chocolate covered almonds my sweet hubby bought this week!!

Food Aversions: It is pretty random...anything I ate in the first trimester I don't really want ever and I just never want to cook because I don't like all the smells!

What made me cry this week: My son is such a big boy and hit huge milestones this week! I couldn't handle all of them and broke down early this week!

We made the transition to his big boy bed in his new room, moved all his stuff out of the nursery, and he did such a great job sleeping in his big bed! (He looks so tiny in his big twin size bed!!) It was way easier (for him!) than I thought it would be and it just reminded me how blessed we are too have such a good boy! Then today he wore underwear to bed and stayed dry! Our empty nursery makes me sad but excited that we can start decorating for our little girl!

Medical Stuff: My midwife is really annoying me lately. We have started clashing when it comes to certain medical interventions and she even dared to make the comment this week at my appt., "Do you have a death wish?" Who says that??!!!!

I am still sticking to my guns and sticking with my philosophy that I want to have this pregnancy with as little medical intervention as possible, as naturally and as close as God intended pregnancy and birth to be as possible, and not let her get me worried, depressed or stressed! I am definitely picking a new midwife next time or hopefully having a home birth (please hubby!!!)

Thoughts from my son: He is super excited especially now that he is in his big boy room and the nursery is empty. He keeps telling me we need to get some stars to hang in his little sister's room and today he helped me sort his old clothes to see if there is anything we can use again. Plus, he will randomly make comments while he is playing like, "I gotta pick this up so baby sister doesn't choke on it!" and he loves to kiss my belly and tell his sister he loves her!

Something I am excited about: I am excited to finally have no plans for the next couple months. These last couple months have been so busy with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and our vacation! I am ready to hide away, get huge, and get this baby's room ready! :)

We are down to SINGLE DIGIT weeks!

My Opinion

My son is a very active boy who loves to play outside! This cold weather never stops him from wanting to get outside and play!

My Opinion

The only downfall for me is that it is does not have a lot of flexibility in the opening that fits around the waist. It seems that it would only fit smaller waisted women. It might not work very well for plus sized moms or moms that don't lose the weight very fast (like ME!).

Kris Kringle’s Jingle Hot Buttered Rum

Tree Top Spiced Cider
½ cup butter or margarine softened
2 cups brown sugar
½ tsp. ground cloves
½ tsp. ground nutmeg
½ tsp. cinnamon
Pinch salt
Light rum
Use whipped cream for topping if desired
Cinnamon stick for décor

For Mix: Combine butter, brown sugar, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt for Kris Kringle’s Jingle Hot Buttered Rum mixture. For gifting, separate mixture into festive holiday containers and seal with gift tag.

To serve: Fill mug ¾ full with cider, add 1 heaping tablespoon of Kris Kringle’s Jingle Hot Buttered Rum mix and heat until steaming (usually 2 mins. in microwave). Add ½ - 1 ounce rum and stir. Great without topping, but a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream, sprinkled with nutmeg and topped with a cinnamon stick, make this a very special treat. Hold the rum for a great family drink for all ages!

My Opinion

In my family, we are huge fans of juice, apples and my son eats applesauce with his oatmeal every morning! Tree Top is our new favorite brand of apple products because their products are not only delicious but they offer a great variety of organic products! I love a company that takes our health seriously enough to offer organic products!

My Opinion

The last time I had a baby and tried to breastfeed, it very sadly didn't work out so well for me. My next child, I am praying to have a better milk supply and better luck pumping and nursing!

I generously received the Dirt Devil Power Flex 2-in-1. This vacuum has the flexibility of a hand vac and stick vac in one easy to use product. My Opinion

When I first saw this 2-1 vacuum from Dirt Devil, I thought it looked great for doing our steep stairs. Besides that, I didn't think much about it.

Well, now, once I have used it, it is my favorite go-to vacuum for EVERYTHING!!! Literally....

There are just so many great features about this Dirt Devil Power Flex 2-1 vacuum that I love and don't know how I lived without!

First of all, I love that it folds down for easy storage. You can easily store it even in the tightest spaces or even travel with it if you really can't live without it! :)

Second of all, the stick vac is great for our bare floor kitchen and dining room and cleaning after my son's many crumbs after every meal! I just grab this super lightweight vacuum from its charging station (I never have to worry about a pesky cord or finding an outlet!!) and easily vacuum up every mess! I barely feel like I am even holding the vacuum or have to even push it around! It is the easiest vacuum (hands down) to push around and use that I have ever used!

The best part is that it is two vacuums in one and allows to me easily grab the hand vac and get the little corners I could never get with ANY vacuum or cleaning tool and also do our steep stairs with ease and No Sweat!! No more lugging our heavy vacuum up the stairs, balancing it on the stairs and finding the right attachments each time. I now can just grab the hand vac from my Power Flex 2-1 and away I go!

It is super easy to stick on the charger once I am finished and the blinking light tells you when it is charging and ready to use again! Best of all, it is super easy to empty and clean! Just empty into the garbage when the hand vac looks full of ickies! :)

Let's just say, I used to hate vacuuming because I hated pushing around our old bulky, heavy vacuum and tripping over the pesky cord. Now I actually LOVE to vacuum with our new Dirt Devil Power Flex 2-1 because it is so easy to use, convenient and powerful!

My Opinion

I am always on the lookout for new, fun and energizing workouts to keep me motivated and interested in working out!

Ellen Barrett's new workout DVD's are definitely unique because of the setting of an actual live exercise class and they shot it all in one shot so it isn't repetitive like some workout DVD's can be. Plus, you can see everyone sweating and working hard - just like you are! I love that aspect!

Also, I love that you can workout to these videos in bare feet and no equipment is necessary so it is perfect for any low budget weight loss and exercise plan!

The only downfall for me is the amount of time needed to commit to doing these videos. Thirty minutes for me is usually max for working out, so the 45-minutes needed for these videos was a little too long. But if you have lots of time to devote to working out, then these are perfect!

My Opinion

What I didn't anticipate was how BIG of a FAN he would be of these delicious treats! I think a direct quote from him was, "These may be my favorite treat of ALL TIME!!". That is huge coming from my hubby - he can be quite picky!!!

Let's just say these were gone in record time and all that was left was wrappers to tell the story of this delicious treat.

These little treats were a perfect mix of peanut butter, chocolate, and crispiness. They were light and fluffy but very sweet! I have never tasted anything like it before!

My Opinion

My Opinion

Organic Playpen Fitted Sheet Review

Thanks Mama is one of my favorite cloth diaper go-to online shops! They are a natural baby store with a specialty in modern cloth diapers. (see my previous cloth diaper review).

However, they also carry baby carriers, baby toys and organic bedding, which I had the amazing chance to receive!

I generously received the 100% Certified Organic Jersey Fitted Sheets. These fitted sheets from Kushies are fully elasticized for a perfect fit and sized to allow for shrinkage - fits perfectly after each wash!

My Opinion

I have been using an old sheet that didn't fit my son's crib mattress in our portacrib for years now and every time I put it on, it always bothered me a little bit that I wasn't using an organic sheet on the portacrib bed when we traveled...even though he seldom uses it.

I never have to have that nagging worry and bothered feeling again because I am now the proud owner of a Organic Kushies Playpen Sheet! Plus, it will be perfect against my new baby daughter's newborn sensitive skin when we travel!

It fits PERFECTLY (I always worry about that when ordering online) on our portacrib mattress and is so soft...even after washing it!

The light green color is beautiful and matches our portacrib perfectly! I couldn't be happier with this sheet and I am excited to go somewhere with my son so he can sleep on his new organic sheet! :)

Thanks Mama is a great shop for cloth diapers but while you are there, don't forget to look through their awesome selection of organic bedding! It is so important to put organic cotton next to your baby's sensitive skin for the many hours they sleep in a day!

Until I received MOCAFE's Chai Tea, I drank my pregnancy teas every night by my lonesome self...

Don't worry - You don't have to feel sorry for me anymore because I don't ever drink tea alone anymore (thanks to MOCAFE!!!) because my husband is now a tea lover like me!!! I can't believe it!

One night I decided to mix up some of the Vanilla Chai tea that I had just received from MOCAFE for my husband just to see what he would think. I didn't tell him what it was until he took a sip and he said "That is AMAZING!!" I then told him that it was this new Chai tea I just received. He couldn't believe it was tea...and he has been drinking it every night with me since! :)

That is why I was so excited to receive the Cantaloop Pregnancy/Nursing tank because it solves both problems with pregnancy and nursing and allows me to wear a comfortable, supportive and easy to nurse in tank top!

I love that there is extra room in the belly area to accommodate my growing belly but it also easily opens up on the straps for nursing.

The only downfall for me is the sizing. I tried two different sizes using the sizing chart but the chest area still doesn't fit me well (just a tad too small)...and I am not even nursing yet. So if you order, keep in mind the sizing may run a bit small.

Other than that, I LOVE the concept that it can fit throughout pregnancy and nursing and it really is comfortable to wear - both the material and the design! I just wish my growing chest could be accomodated! :)

My Opinion

Like I mentioned, Safety 1st is one of my favorite companies for baby and safety products! I couldn't have been more excited when I got to receive their Nod-A-Way Bassinet to use for my new baby daughter. We didn't have a bassinet/cradle for my new little one and receiving this bassinet made me even more excited for my new daughter to arrive!

I LOVE so many features about this bassinet! The Peek-a-boo window is so great for peeking in on the little one without them seeing you. The hanging plush-bunny toys are so cute and provide visual stimulation! The wheels make it really easy to move around and from room to room. And the removable storage baskets are great for storing diapers, extra blankets and sheets, and other baby essentials and keeping them nearby for easy grabbing!

My favorite part of all is the Smart Soother™ technology. I just love that it activates when baby makes a sound and it activates music, vibration and a soft-glow nightlight. With my son, we had a baby monitor that we had to keep pressing for music and a nightlight but now it is right on the bassinet! I love that!

Book Review: First Date

Addy Davidson is the last girl in the country who wants to be on the new reality TV show to win a date to prom with the President’s son. She’s focused on her schoolwork so she can get a scholarship to an Ivy League college, uncomfortable in the spotlight, never been on a date, and didn’t even audition for it.

So she does her best to get eliminated on the very first show… right before she realizes that the President’s son is possibly the most attractive guy she has ever seen in person, surprisingly nice, and seemingly unimpressed by the 99 other girls who are throwing themselves at him.

My Opinion

First Date by Krista McGee was a cute young adult fiction novel with great life and faith lessons!

This book is great for anyone that is shy or nervous about sharing your faith! Like Esther from the Bible, Addy is put in a public situation and is super nervous about speaking of her faith to others who may not believe like she does, but she must rely on God to give her the words to say. God never leaves her and leads her on the best path to sharing her faith with all the unbelievers!

I recommend First Date for teenagers and women who love a good Christian fiction novel! You will feel your faith strengthened as you read how Addy's was strengthened through talking about her faith!

My Opinion

My son is a HUGE fan of fire trucks so I knew he would love the Fire Patrol Rescue playset from Blok Squad!

Keep in mind that this playset is for ages 5 and up - there are a lot of pieces (and they are small!) but they can be turned into hours of fun and into fun Fire Patrol trucks and ATV!

This set would be perfect for any child that loves fire trucks, pretending to be a fireman and children who love to build! The 190 pieces allows hours and hours of fun and imagination! Get ready to hear a lot of sirens in your house! :)

My Opinion

I am an avid exerciser so when I see a new sports bra, I jump at the chance to try it! :) The Jockey Tech Terry Performance Sports Bra was very light and breathable and didn't collect sweat like most of my sports bras! I unfortunately got a size too big so I can't say much for the actual support it gives, but I would say that it is probably for more casual activity like walking because the bottom band and bra material is more for comfort than support.

The Purex Crystals are perfect for washing the Jockey sports bra because normally you shouldn't use fabric softener on performance sportswear because the oil content prevents the wicking process. But Purex Crystals is a different case because they do not contain oils! Therefore, they are safe to use on athletic wear, towels, children's sleepwear and everything else!!

My Opinion

As I have mentioned before, my husband and I are HUGE snackers, especially at night after my son goes to bed and we have sat down to relax and watch TV! We have both tried to cut back, but it is part of our relaxing routine so it is really hard!
