A Day at the Museum

A couple of weeks ago I went to the Met with Jen and some other friends to check out the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit. While I wish these photos had been taken on the steps of the Met (sooo Gossip Girl, I know), it was pouring rain that day and outfit photos were basically out of the question. So here is what I wore on a Sunday to the museum and below are some snaps of my favorites from the exhibit!

Yesterday I posted my look for the East v. West Style Collab and today I wanted to show you some of my current favorites in the denim shorts department. Just like denim jackets, denim shorts have gotten a bit of a step up this summer. I personally love the colored palm tree shorts but also really really love a good pair of relaxed boyfriend shorts. I've also found that type suits my body shape best (which is really important when buying clothes!).

Raspberry Lemonade

This GiGi New York clutch is so perfect for summer time - the bright color is a great addition to any colorful (or basic) outfit. It inspired me to bring you a punchy color combo in the spirit of the ~~warm~~ hot weather we've had lately! And the monogram? I'm kind of obsessed.

Speaking of - a raspberry lemonade sure does sound good right now...

*Editor's note: it was about 90 degrees and 75% humidity when Jen and I shot these photos... Gave me a little taste of summer and I thought I was going to melt outside. This Nevada/dry heat girl has a lot of work to do to adjust to the East coast humidity!

How To Wear: Springtime Leather

Could it be? Is it really Friday? Did I survive another week? I remember hearing at one point in my working time here in NYC that "June is a pretty slow month." Ha. That's the funniest joke I've heard in a while! So far June has been cray (and we are on what, day 7?) - I just keep reminding myself I need to make it to the Fourth of July week and then [hopefully] I'll be able to catch my breath a little! Who knows though.

Anyway, on to more important things - springtime leather! If you tuned in Wednesday you saw some of my favorite leather pieces for spring (well, now almost summer..). I'm so in love with the light color of this jacket - I think it'll be in heavy rotation!

Today I wanted to share some spring leather pieces with you. Granted it's been a little hot for leather pieces here in NYC but if you need a little cover up for the summer nights, leather (real or faux, whatever you prefer) is a really great go to. Below are some of my favorite light colored pieces - just throw them over a sundress or t-shirt and you'll look polished.

Polka Dots Untucked

Sometimes you just don't want to tuck in your shirt, ya know? I mean, when it comes to weekend style it's always nice to be a little untucked (considering I work in a profesh office environment where I try to keep it fairly "buttoned up," especially when I'm seeing clients). I was so excited about my new teal pumps I just had to bust them out last weekend. What do you think? They're a little 80's but so amazing!

Window Shopping Wednesday: Umbrella Style

I think it's safe to say we've had ~~too much~~ a lot of rain in NYC lately. Not gonna lie... I'm kind of over it! I just want sunshine! There's a little story with the theme of today's post. I purchased my first umbrella in NYC when I moved here last August. I remember being so upset that I spent $15 on it but it was a situation where if I didn't get an umbrella right then and there I'd either get caught in the rain or have to duck for shelter for who knows how long. I managed to keep that umbrella until last week when I accidentally left it at a work HH. Of course when I called the next day, they didn't have it. Le sigh. My faithful, trusty black umbrella was gone. Then I realized, I could upgrade my umbrella situation! Cue scouring the internet for cute umbrellas (see below).

I ended up buying a leopard print umbrella at TJ Maxx instead of ordering one but who knows, maybe when that one needs to be replaced I'll buy one of these guys:

DC In An Insta

Did you notice the blog's facelift?! Thanks to Mrs. Sommer Elston I have a pretty new logo and new social media buttons to match! I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself. I know Sommer from back home who recently started doing graphic design, and when she approached me about doing a logo I was so excited (I had been thinking about it for a while so it was perfect timing!). For now you can find her on Instagram and pretty soon, on her own website. Check her out and let her know if you need any design work done!

Back tracking a little here... I went to DC for the first time about 3 weeks ago and had such an amazing weekend! It's definitely added to my list of favorite cities. We did a bunch of touristy things like the monuments and museums and also went to some fun local spots. See what I wore on my trip down and some snaps of my adventures from Instagram:

I'm keeping today's post simple just like the subject: the "plain" white tee. I say "plain" because to me a white tee is basically a canvas that can be dressed up fancy or fab on it's own, so it's really not plain by any means. There are a ton of options out there for white tees but below are some I've heard ah-mazing things about (especially that Alexander Wang tee - now if only I could bring myself to spend $80 on a t-shirt...).

A Little Country: Denim and Lace

So clearly this week had a very specific theme that was completely unintentional (seriously - I had no idea it'd work out this way). Monday's look was lace on lace topped with a denim jacket, Wednesday's Window Shopping post was all about denim jackets and today is yet another lace look with a denim jacket. I will admit, the Wednesday/Friday denim jacket theme was planned but not the Monday tie-in too! Apparently I'm on a denim and lace kick (what can I say, it's a great combination!).

I hope you all have a great weekend! I'm headed to the Met with Jen and some other friends on Sunday to check out the Punk Chaos to Couture exhibit. Should be a great time!

It's funny how trends come and go. I remember I had the perfect denim jacket back in college and eventually decided I didn't need it anymore so I donated it, not knowing I would need to own one again. Last year I realized the time had come for a new denim jacket but of course I couldn't find anything that compared to my old one.

The one I picked up has quickly become a staple for me this spring, as it has for many others. Denim jackets are everywhere right now and the best part about them is there are soo many different types! You have the original, the moto look, printed denim, a blazer style, colored denim and also mixed media styles with leather details. Below are some of my favorites out there right now:

How to Wear Lace on Lace

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a fab weekend! I had the best chill out/relax/reset weekend. Those are definitely much needed form time to time! Here are some quick snaps:

Jen took me to "Big Gay Ice Cream Shop" in the East Village on Friday night (pardon the name but this was hands down the best soft serve cone I've ever had in my life). And I finally had a chance to catch up with Katie at a quick brunch on Sunday. It had been forever!

On to today's outfit! I've been seriously obsessed with lace right now (even more so than normal). If you look at my latest favorites, you'll see a trend of lace, color and more lace. So it was only natural when I picked up this lovely yellow skirt that I had to pair it with my new lace top. I really liked the end results - what do you think?

Hola! Happy Friday! Not so happy because it's our last week of the #northvsouthstyle collab but today is happy because well, it's Friday. Gosh it's been a crazy week. I keep going through these periods of being not so busy to running around at 1,000 MPH. It's cray.

Anyway, this week we are going out with a bang and styling our favorite printed pieces together. I know, mixing prints is like this crazy new thing that no one has ever done before ;). Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a fab weekend. I took a little trip to Washington DC and had such a good time. It was definitely the perfect recharge and so great to see old friends.

North v. South: Spring Accessories

Five Things [About Me]

I'm so glad I finally had time to put this little post together! I was tagged by not one but three lovely ladies (Julie Leah, Sherri Ann and Katie) to do the "Five Things" post - sharing five things you probably didn't know about me. So, here goes! Enjoy!

It is my goal to do a triathlon at some point in my life. I also have a goal of running the following marathons: Washington DC, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, New York, London, Berlin and the St. Jude Marathon.

I love the great outdoors and I've successfully been chukar hunting.

I don't watch TV really ever. Unless it's college football, some basketball, Real Housewives, or the Bachelor (when one of my sorority sisters was on it). Therefore, I've never seen an episode of Girls which kinda bums me out (anyone have an HBO Go they wanna share?).
Speaking of college football - I sure do miss it!

I hardly ever wore red before I moved to NYC - now I wear it alllllll.the.time.

I also rarely ever wore lip color before moving to NYC (aside from lip gloss) and now I'm obsessed with my hot pink Sephora lipstain and my coral Mac lipstick.
