This week the word is REST. One of Jesus’ defining characteristics is that he was never hurried or worried. This is an important character trait that God wants to cultivate in His sons and daughters. It begins by resting in the reality that we are NOT God and that, despite evil in the world, He is firmly in control. It continues to flow as we take adequate time to rest our bodies and spend time with the Lord and those we love.

Today, by God’s grace, this community exists. But, it’s not time to rest on our laurels or go back to the comfort of a less radical vision. God has even greater things in store for us a community. For, as Hebrews 11 reminds us, we are building the kind of transformed community fit to dwell in the great city “whose designer and builder is God”.</p> <p>Almost 15 years ago, a little after the world shaking events of 9/11, an ambitious group of people gathered in Edmonton and dreamed of a church that would be “radically inclusive, spiritually vibrant, life restoring and world transforming”. But sooner or later, we discover that all our scheming and struggling is really a struggle against God. So it was for Jacob. In the end, he learned the painful lesson that fighting God is fruitless. He spent 9 years as a flooring installer before heeding God's call on his life to become a Minister of the Word. <br>Peter attended and graduated Redeemer university, in Ancaster Ontartio, and went on to Calvin Seminar, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he graduated with his M.Div. in 1991.<br>His first charge was in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he and his wife Cindy, and 4 children, planted a church. In 1995, Peter and the family accepted the call to Exeter Ontario, where they ministered for 7 years.
