Meg-A Readers 2013 Update!

Hey Everyone!!

So it's been a few months since the announcement of Meg-A Readers, and I wanted to give you all an update!!

Diana, my amazing co-host, has designed this year's awesome blog tour button!!

It looks great right?!

As you can see the final dates have been posted! July 2nd until September 28th! Last year's Meg-A Readers was exactly two months, but because of the dates of Meg's releases this year being a little bit further apart, Diana and I decided to extend the time period and make it almost three months! That way we have one week before Awaken, the third and final book in the Abandon Trilogy, which is coming out July 2nd, and then one week after The Bride Wore Size 12, which is coming out September 24th! :)

So that's the update for now! :)

My Thoughts:

Leigh Talbert Moore's novel Dragonfly, has an interesting and intriguing story line. With a hint of mystery, that had me on the edge of my seat near the end, and to be honest FREAKING OUT when I read the last sentence. I turned the page on my Kindle, and then it gave me the author info. I was like "WHAT???!! NO!!!" I honestly almost gave this book 2 Bookies, BUT then I saw THANK YOU LEIGH!! that there will be a second book released this July!! Hallelujah!

I found this story and these characters very intriguing, because Anna, while starting off as a fairly normal uninteresting (for a story anyway), turned into such a complex person! While I will admit I was annoyed with her non-decision between Jack and Julian...because COME ON, we should all know the obvious choice (cough Julian cough!).

Jack, while a great guy...possibly one day, when he's matured a bit, needs to work on some issues, and just comes with a bit too much baggage. Julian on the other hand, has been there for Anna for the past two years, obviously adores her, and knows where he is headed in life!

Overall rating...

I truly enjoyed this one! I thought the characters were intriguing, the mystery and story were interesting and definitely have ME WANTING MORE!!!!!!! I NEED this second book!!!! NOW!!!! Leigh, do you hear me!!! The Romance Bookie NEEDS book 2! That ending killed me!!

The Au Pairs (The Au Pairs #1) by Melissa de la Cruz (Review)

Finally another book off the To-Be-Read Shelf!! VERY slowly making process on that one...

Anyone, this time around I read Melissa de la Cruz's, if I'm not mistaken, Debut book The Au Pairs. I picked this one up at a Goodwill about a year ago, because it seemed like a fun beach read! :)

Summer in the city? Way overrated. Everybody who's anybody in New York City summers in the Hamptons. Mara, Eliza, and Jacqui all want a piece of the action, all for different reasons.
So the girls answer a classified ad to become au pairs. How bad can it be, watching a couple of kids on the beach all day? They've got the swank address, the sweet ride, and an all-access pass to the hottest social scene on the East Coast. It's shaping up to be the summer of their lives.

My Thoughts:

I'm just going to say it right away...this book was a tad annoying. Out of the three main characters, only one was tolerable, and even that ONE at times I wanted to smack!

Mara, the one I actually could tolerate, was the only down-to-earth and somewhat relate able character out of this entire book! While, not used to the rich snootiness that is the Hamptons, the reader can tell that for a bit she was starting to get used to the lifestyle. Overall, she was very nice, a bit of a push over though. The other two girls would leave Mara all alone to watch these five kids, while they're off doing God knows what!

Eliza, while this character actually somewhat grew into a somewhat tolerable person at the end of the book, she just bothered me so much! Her family used to rich like the people in the Hamptons, in fact they even owned a summer house there, that her father had to sell when some serious legal problems took all of their money away. Eliza, still stuck in her rich ways, can't accept the fact that this world is not hers anymore. She has a serious shopping problem! She is rude to people, and just overall can't get over herself!

Jacqui...okay, I don't even know where to begin with this one! She was probably my absolute least favorite out of the three girls. I don't actually understand what her deal is either. She would flirt with these very old guys to get things out of them, whether it be a party invitation everyone is dying to get, or a free dinner. She is so naive it was almost ridiculous!

Overall rating for this one...

This book could have been a great summer read, if it these characters would have been a little different. In the end, they did each have their big epiphany that the reader expects, but while it happened, I couldn't help wondering, "Did they really learn their lessons?" Mara was a pretty good character, but the other two...I don't know...

If you like the Gossip Girl series, then I think you'll enjoy this one. This book is filled with drama, the rich life style that most people fantasize about. While I do love money of course, I could never see myself living in a world where people think they are better than others just because they have a credit card their parents gave them...

If you're going to read this one, I will say read it in the summer! That way you get the whole summer experience!

Secrets and Lies by Kody Keplinger (Novella)

So I vaguely remember hearing that Kody Keplinger was releasing two new short stories this year, but what I didn't realize was how soon!!

As in June 1st soon!!

So on Tuesday, as I was purchasing my copies of The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen and my copy of Entwined with you by Sylvia Day, I got an email saying Secrets and Lies is out now!! And guess what it was only $2.99!!!

So yeah, I got it right away!! And read it!! :)

My Thoughts:

I am a huge Kody Keplinger fan! Not only is she super fun to talk to, but she's also a great writer! And she's only 21!!! My age!! She's written THREE published novels, PLUS TWO more scheduled to be released both next year! How awesome and amazing is that??

Well, anyway, I truly enjoyed Kody's two new short stories that she had published!

I thought they were a great edition to the Hamilton High family, which is the location of her three previous books, plus it had some of the side characters in it too! Like Wesley and Bianca make numerous appearance in the first short story, "Abbreviations and Alliterations", plus an appearance by Bianca's first crush in Kody's The DUFF, which is honestly still one of my all time favorite books (and actually I'm giving away a copy right now!! Check out that giveaway HERE!).

Plus Whitley and Nate make an appearance in the second novella, "People Worth Knowing"!

I honestly just love when authors put there previous main character into their new books as side characters, so the readers can see what happened to them! Kody, along with Miranda Kenneally and Sarah Dessen do this! :)

Overall rating:

I really liked this one! I thought it had two great stories and not only some of my favorite past characters, but also a more deeper look into a few of Kody's past minor characters! It was great! I will admit and say, I was not a huge fan of Casey's speaking style in the first one. She used abbreviations to describe her emotions, like "OMG" "STFU" and others, and honestly living in California, we do have people that talk like that here, but it ALSO DRIVES ME INSANE!!!

Other than that, I thought Casey was a great character and person! Toby is perfect for her! :)

Plus Bailey is perfect with her mystery man too! :) (I don't want to give away too much here, afterall!) :)

My Thoughts:

Trophy Husband by Lauren Blakely was a cute contemporary romance novel, overall!

While at times there were things that bothered me a bit, I did, in the end, enjoy it! It had a somewhat interesting concept!

However, one thing that really got to me in this book was the main character, McKenna. I honestly, at times found her to be a bit irritating... For instance, why would you want a Trophy Husband at the age of 26? Okay, so I know she explained it in the book, by saying that she was trying to do this whole empowering woman thing; but seriously?? 26?? How is that OLD today?

I thought it was cool that McKenna was trying to be an independent woman, however, I didn't think she was doing it for the right reasons. While she should have been doing it for herself, she was doing it to prove something to her d-bag of an ex-fiance. What he did is pretty much one of the most unacceptable things to do to end a relationship! Actually it might just be the top worst thing!

Whenever McKenna and her girlfriends mentioned the term Trophy Husband, there was word going through my head...D.I.V.O.R.C.E. Instant Divorce to be more exact. The hole concept of Trophy Wife and Trophy Husband to me leads ultimately to divorce about 80% of the time in my opinion. I'm not saying it NEVER works, but I mean seriously? If you're holding a dating contest on your blog to meet a younger husband who you are pretty much going to be the sugar mama for...(in a singing voice)...divorce...

HOWEVER, by the end all of that changed! The whole concept was pretty much thrown out the window, and like many of you know...because come on, a contemporary romance, every body knows that the reader will get their happy ending ;).

I was cheering for McKenna and Chris from the moment she heard his voice! I mean come one...video game blogger+fashion blogger=happily ever after!!!!

Chris sounded absolutely gorgeous!! While it took McKenna a couple epiphanies to realize Chris might possibly be the one, she finally realized something along the way, that could change her view on a lot of things!

Should getting back at your ex, for breaking your heart, decide everything in your life?

Overall rating:

I loved the outcome of this book! McKenna was able to learn from her past mistakes and live life the way it is supposed to be...your OWN way! I recommend this book to my fellow contemporary adult romance readers! It's cheesy, and I will warn contain quite a few women fantasies, involving both imaginary and real sex...so if you enjoy a good steamy read...check this out!

Faking It (Losing It #2) by Cora Carmack (ARC Review)

So before I share with you all my review for Faking It by Cora Carmack, I have something random to share with you all. So this past weekend, on Saturday I went with a friend to go see The Hangover 3, which btw, is SO much different than the first two!! If you don't already know, that movie is Rated R, which means, technically, no one under the age of 17 is allowed into the theater. Well, when I went to go buy my ticket, guess what happened?!

THEY ASKED FOR MY ID!!

Now, before you say, "What's the big deal?", well, here's the thing...I haven't been under 17 in over 5 years!! I am going to be 22 in July!!

I was just reminded of that story as I wrote the big warning above lol, and just had to share! I mean, honestly, I know I look fairly young, but under 17??? Yeah, I'm not so sure...

Anyway, done with random rant of the day...time for my review...

My Thoughts:

Faking It by Cora Carmack, the second in her Losing It Series, was a pleasant surprise. As I started this one, all that was going through my head was, "There is no way she can top Losing It", which I reviewed back in December. Well, she definitely did!

I've mentioned this before, but I absolutely love it when series have each book be about a different main character, yet still incorporate the past characters, and/or involve one of the side characters from the previous novel in the series!

Faking It is the story of Cade, the friend from school of Bliss, from Losing It.

Cade starts off being depressed in this one, because he knows he's lost the girl who he thought was the love of his life to someone he just can't compete with...a guy with a British Accent...I mean, honestly, guys that accent is pretty darn sexy!

Anyway, as he's bandaging his wounded heart, Max storms into his life completely out of nowhere desperate for him to pretend to be her boyfriend, because her parents have made an unexpected visit into town.

What better than to use Cade's acting skills?! And to get practice!

Well, soon enough, Cade realizes he may not have to pretend after all. He realizes, while damaged just like him, from her past, that she's an extraordinarily strong person, who just doesn't realize how strong she is yet!

Overall rating...

I really enjoyed this one! Honestly, actually more than Losing It, only because it didn't seem to have as much cheesiness to it, like it's predecessor had. I loved the serious aspects behind the back story of both main characters. Both complex characters, that may not look like right for one another on the outside, but once they get to know each other, the inside is where they find their true common ground!

Highly recommend this one to fans of Losing It, but also fans of New Adult novels! Cora Carmack has written a great series so far!

While trying to FINALLY claim some control her, okay let's admit here people...F*&^ed up relationship with "The Master", she is finally attempting to get some sort of control! As this series gets more and more intense when it comes to their relationship, I can't help but feel, while giving her... cough...satisfaction, is in many ways sort of abusive...

I just hope we find out soon who this "Master" is...and possibly get to find out if Rebecca gets control...or possibly loses her "master"?

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits #1) by Katie McGarry

Wow, this was a great book!!!

My Thoughts:

I am just going to get straight to the point...I LOVED THIS BOOK!! This book has me adding yet another great one to my favorites! I know I say this a lot, but I swear I only do when it's true! Katie McGarry's debut novel Pushing the Limits has everything I look for in a book! Great characters, great story line, and a touching element to get the readers to weep! EVERYTHING!

I cried, I laughed, I gawked, I wanted to scream! These characters had me cheering for them, weeping for them, and just laughing with them at times!

Echo, what an awesome name by the way!, is such a complex character. What she has been through, no girl...heck no person! should ever have to even witness, let alone go through! Noah, what a tough stubborn guy! But you gotta love him! Also having been through some extremely tough issues that no one should ever have to witness or go through, he learns that not everything has to be as bad as he's used to. Life definitely sucks at times, but I think both characters, at the end, realize that their are definitely still good things to look forward to in life.

Overall rating...I'm sure you've already guessed:

I ABSOLUTELY loved this one! I highly recommend this one to everyone! Okay, so I know probably not EVERYONE is going to love this one...because what book is loved by EVERYONE? But I would definitely recommend this one to young adults, ages 14 and up. This book deals with some touching issues that some may relate to! :)

My Thoughts:

I found this book to be very intriguing! The characters each had something very interesting and unique about them, that I enjoyed reading about. Rory, love that name!, is a very strong independent woman who knows what she wants, she's got two friends, who happen to be her roommates, who I honestly would have had some problems with, if they would have done what they did to me. Her friends, honestly, pissed me off at times.

Tyler was interesting, in that he was a bad boy on the outside, but inside this complete vulnerable guy who just wanted to take care of everyone. In the end, while Rory kept being worried about Tyler feeling he needed to not only take care of his dysfunctional family, but also her, I felt she was actually taking care of him too. Supporting him in all the endeavors that he focused on.

My overall rating:

I truly enjoyed this one! While I believe Rory should have been a bit more confrontal towards her friends, in the end I felt she knew what she doing when it came to handling situations. The reader will find themselves routing for her and Tyler to work things out!

This book does contain some mature content involving sex, talk of drugs and virginity, so keep that in mind when deciding if you want to read it or not.

When I got an email a couple of weeks ago from Laura Howard asking me to read her new novel The Forgotten Ones, I read the synopsis, and knew I would find it intriguing!

My Thoughts:

When I first started this novel, I absolutely instantly fell for...Ethan!! That sounds like one hunky man!

Allison was such an intriguing character, because she is living this very unique life. Her mother grew almost unresponsive when Allison was a very young age, and now, at the age of almost 22, she is wanting to do nothing else but taking the load of herself and her mother off her grandparents and aunt and uncle. Her family loves, but she thinks that it's time to start a life on her own, and take care of her own mother for a change.

To be honest, while the whole secret life of Allison's father, who randomly appeared back into her life, came out, while interesting and enthralling at times, I was more concerned about something else...When was Allison going to realize that Ethan was not the guy she thought him to be!

Overall rating:

The entire story was very intriguing! It was almost two different genres in one...contemporary and paranormal/fantasy! I loved both aspects, however...me being the contemporary romance fan...was totally waiting and waiting for more, More, and MORE Ethan parts!!!

I am definitely looking forward to the second book, where hopefully we'll be seeing MORE ETHAN!!! :)

This is a fun short read, with fantasy creatures with wings, hot guys, and an intriguing story line! :)

My Thoughts:

inhale, exhale by Sarah M. Ross was a cute book! It was a lot like what I like to read! Characters around my age, a good story line involving a love story of some kind without paranormal aspects.

Jillian was a great character, whose had quite a bit of luck in her life, I feel like. She's been in one relationship since she was a sophomore in high school, she has a great family who adores her, and she gets lucky when her mom gets her that job!

That's where she meets Grant! Grant, on the hand, hasn't had the most simple life. His mom died when he was sixteen, and since then he's pretty much been taking care of father, making sure he doesn't he go downhill completely, while going to school and working on computers for a living. He's extremely smart when it comes to computers!

Jillian, while always have been pretty lucky, runs into a couple of rough patches in her life throughout inhale, exhale. She realizes her high school sweetheart boyfriend of four years isn't exactly the guy she thought he was..., her grandmother goes ill, and there is that small problem of staying away from Grant to avoid the physical attraction that is clearly there between them!

While, I truly enjoyed this story, there was one thing that sort of bothered me, and while it also bothered Jillian, herself, that she did it, it was a little sad to me...not ending her relationship with her boyfriend before starting something new with Grant.

I get it, Grant was there for her, and I was definitely hands down 100% routing for them, however, I honestly didn't think it was right! I mean, she supposedly loved her boyfriend! AND they had been together for a long time! It was the decent thing to have done, in my opinion.

However, luckily Jillian felt very guilty about it herself!

Overall rating:

This is hands down a cute contemporary New Adult novel! I would recommend it for the 17 and up age group, since it does involve some graphic elements involving sex, as well as physical abuse. It's got a set of great characters, that obviously have some serious chemistry between them! And it's the perfect read for a romancaholic seeking a great book! :)

-Because of The Romance Bookie I have been to a few VERY AWESOME signings, including the one where I got to meet my all time favorite author, Meg Cabot (whom I also got to have a conversation with)! Along the way, I've also met: Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson, Marissa Meyer (and gotten to eat lunch with her!), Gayle Forman, Stephanie Perkins, and quite a few others!
-Along with Diana over at Little Miss Drama Queen, we came up with the idea behind Meg-A-Readers!
-I've gotten to interview some AMAZING authors, such as Meg Cabot, Miranda Kenneally, Kody Keplinger, and Lisa Renee Jones!
-I've gained a HUGE signed book collection, and just overall a HUGE collection!
-I've gotten publishers and authors contacting me, asking me to read their books!
-Gotten FREE books sent to me, before their releases!
-Had my name in the Acknowledgements of a couple of awesome books! Including Lauren Clark's Dancing Naked in Dixie, Anthea Sharp's third "Feyland" novel, and in the paperback of Marissa Meyer's Cinder!!
-I've gained some awesome friends whom I talk to regularly! Liz over at Books I Think You Should Read and I talk probably about at least once a day, about one thing or another! And Diana over Little Miss Drama Queen and I are constantly in contact thinking of new and exciting ways to make Meg-A Readers even better! And then I've gotten to meet at signings Montana over at The Book Belles (I'm very proud to share that I was actually like her 5th follower or something like that! Now she has over 1,000!! And I only met her a little over a year ago! :)), and then also Alysia over at Little Pocketbooks! She is so sweet and awesome!! :)
-And last but not least...you guys! The Followers! I know bloggers are always saying..."Followers shouldn't matter, the number isn't what's important, it's the love of blogging."

Yay, finally got to read the third one!! And I've got #4 and the SECOND in the Inside Out series waiting on my Kindle as well!! :)

I know this is going to sound weird, and a lot of are probably thinking, "Wow, what a pervert for reading this!" but the reason why I'm so intrigued with this series, as well as the Fifty Shades of Grey books, is because I'm interested to find out how these people became the way they are.

Both main characters from both series enjoy let's just say not the average sexual experience...

Let's just leave it at this...they like it rough.

ANYWAY, this book really got the reader to get to know this mystery character, that Rebecca refers to as "The Master" in her journals. We got to, through Rebecca, have him take their "relationship" to a whole new level. Show her the secret house, so to say.

It was weird! But in a strange way fascinating, because now what's going through my head is: "How does one become like that???" I mean, in Fifty, we learned the reason for why Christian is the way he is, but so far not in this series. But I am looking forward to finding out!!

I'm intrigued...

One problem I'm having is dealing with the fact of how Rebecca gets into this stuff. Because like I said, it's INTENSE! And weird! It will be interesting to find out further how she deals with this situation in the future.

The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler (ARC Review)

Dementia...aka Alzheimer's...really does = "the Devil" or "el demonio". What a HORRIBLE disease this is! I personally have had fairly little experience with this terrible disease, but I've heard some awful stories! We new a lady who it attacked so fast, we didn't even know. We knew her for years, and one day we saw her with her husband and she honestly had no idea who we were! In fact, she looked scared that we were talking to her.

My great-grandmother who will be 94 next month, was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago. I unfortunately haven't been to my country of origin, Germany, to visit her, but my brother visited a couple of years ago, and he stayed with her for a couple of days throughout his visit. Every single time he saw her, she didn't remember him!

So anyway now to my review...since you maybe wondering "What does this have to do with your review?"

My Thoughts:

This was my first ever Sarah Ockler book! I've had her previous novels on my wishlist for about as long as each of them has been available, however, just hadn't gotten the chance to read them! Bloggers and readers should know what I'm talking about! lol

Anyway, Sarah has a gift! And I am so glad I got the opportunity to read this book, thanks to Edelweiss.

Jude was such a great character. She pretty much had to grow up really fast, over a short period of time, as soon as she found out the terrible news that new father was suffering from Alzheimer's.

That disease, or "el demonio" as she refers to it as, changed her life. It both ruined her, and her family, but also in one sense may have given her a gift. The power to speak up for yourself, and also meeting a young man whom her sisters and her made a pact to avoid (his entire family in fact) due to past issues, not involving Jude.

Emilio Vargas...what a dream boat! No seriously! A bad boy biker, with tan skin and lovely rippling muscles...yeah, like I said...dream boat!!!

Overall rating:

This book is a favorite of mine! Such a great story! It's got everything I look for in a book! Plus it takes place in the summer, which is always a nice touch for me! I just love that feeling of reading about summer in a book, maybe because it is so relate able to the climate where I live, where currently it is scorchingly hot!

I recommend this one to fans of Simone Elkeles! I honestly think you all will appreciate this book, because the writing style and character reminded me a bit of Simone's books!

Highly recommend it also to contemporary romance fans! It's a great young adult novel!

Wow! You guys, this book took me by surprise! Absolutely by surprise!

This book was amazing! The characters, the story, everything! It was just great!

Ashton and Nathan are such amazing characters, both with such a tough past, and holding so many secrets, especially Ashton, that the reader finds herself/himself falling for these characters as they're falling for each other!

I was not only surprised by how much I fell in love with this story but by one of the truths that is revealed...in fact that was THE secret of the book!!

Overall rating:

Truly enjoyed this one! I highly recommend it to readers over the age of 17, because it does contain some mature adult content, involving sexual activities. It made me cry a bit, so keep that in mind!! :)

Seriously? How is it that an author (or in this case TWO authors) can make a sequel to a great book, and it turns out to be an EVEN BETTER BOOK THAN THE FIRST??????

That is pretty much what happened to me as I read Beautiful Stranger! Christina and Lauren have once again created some kick-ass characters! Steamy, hot, amazing, BRITISH!!!, and just overall a sexy read!

I mean seriously?! Max is BRITISH!! Which means British accent, and let's admit it here...who doesn't get turned on by a British accent???

While Beautiful Bastard was about the relationship between a stubborn woman and her jackass of a boss, which turned into a super cute hot read all on its own; Beautiful Stranger gets together a normally playboy and a recently heart broken innocent-on-the-outside-but-secretly-running-wild-fantasies-through-her-head type of girl.

Max got pretty creative there, if you know what I mean ;). (Wink, wink LOL).

Overall rating:

This one is for the 18 and over crowd. I would recommend to those of you who like these types of reads. If you enjoyed Fifty Shades, then you'll most likely go for this one. I prefer this series though. It's well written, and while it also started off as Twilight fan-fiction, it first of all, came out even BEFORE Fifty, AND just gives almost a more relate-able vibe, when it comes to the characteristics of the characters.

I can't believe this was my first Jessi Kirby book ever! Seriously? How is that possible?!

Now I know 100% that I need to get my hands on her book In Honor!!

I got to meet Jessi last year at Passion and Prose actually, where she was passing out signed post cards for In Honor, and while she would most likely not remember me, I remember her being such a sweetheart!

My Thoughts:

This book had it all! Great characters, great story, mystery, surprises, love, self-discovery...just everything that would = a great book!

Parker was such an interesting character, because while she has always done what is expected of her from her mother, it finally has her branching out and trying some new things, before it's too late! High school, while definitely meant for studying, also needs memories to be made, and while Parker has had the studying part down, she didn't really get the memory making part down.

So now is the time!

Finding Julianna's journal changes Parker's life in a way that has readers wanting more and more, and MORE!! That journal is the key to a town's ten year "myth"/ghost story/etc. whatever you want to call it!

Overall rating:

I absolutely freaking love this book! While it took Parker a while to make some important decisions for her life, she finally makes ones that I believe the reader will be very satisfied with!
