My Charm Bracelet

This is my personal charm bracelet. Right now it has 44 charms. I have at least 6 more to put on that I have not. Only one is pure gold and that is a heart meant for my true love. My favorites are shown on these pictures. I have a simulated eye portrait drawn by a student of my love's eye (with his glasses on) in miniature--that and my Don Quixote on horse railing against the windmill are my favorites I think. My mother started this for me when I was 16 years old with a 16 number charm, and a Capricorn. There is quite a mix from a crystal ball (I am highly intuitive) to a mustard seed (one of my favs) to a beer stein (for my heritage) to a piano that opens (for all those years of lessons that didn't stick!). It was primarily intended to be only a movable charm bracelet, but what does a 16 year old (or an almost 50 year) old know! Every charm has a meaning to me! (I especially like the little girl curled up in the hand of God--keeps it real for me on some of those tougher moments) My students love it and always someone or another, both male and female come up to hear what the charms mean to me. I hope you enjoy!

Calling all My Fair Lady philes

So, after two years of research and collecting, I am finally ready to put the finishing touches on my book about BSK's My Fair Lady Jewelry Line. I do have a few questions however--if there is anyone out there "young" enough to remember My Fair Lady playing in the theatres--there is a myth of how the jewelry line was sold in the theatre. This seems implausible to me--but if you purchased through the theatres or if you bought in a store at the time--let me know your experiece.

Also, I have a few pictures I want to use from various sources. I own the sources in my collection (magazines, etc.) and my question is ,even thought I have written to anticipate the need for a clearance for copyright, my requests have gone unanswered. If I state that these are by X photographer and are in my collection, is it okay to use? All pictures f the jewelry will be mine and mine alone. These are still from the film and the play used to bolster my contention about dating (somewhat similar--or so it feels--to carbon dating (yes, my tongue is in cheek!)

This bracelet, which is also unsigned as the necklace which follows this piece, has enameled disks (which are not chipped or damaged in any way). I've never seen this hallmark before. It looks like a "J" with an arrow coming throughat a left shot and then things hanging off of it like a real estate sign.

Any ideas--let me know!

Just Got My De Lizza Book

I am SO excited. Just got my "signed" edition of "Memoirs of a Fashion Jewelry Manufacturer." by Frank R. DeLizza. It was published in 2007 and it is a year by year look at the development of DeLizza and Elster or Juliana Jewelry from the man who designed it, himself.

These are available for purchase on his website, along with jewelry from original renderings. The link is in the left column under Jewelry by DeLizza.

Some black and white photos, some renderings of designs (my favorite part) and other color photos, it is a highly readable account. Most of this is written in English, but, if you are like me and can read Italian, you should have no trouble with several letters shared at the end of the book. This is part bibliography, part history of a family and all history of a business built in America.

If this was some of the first jewelry that you, like me, experienced, then this is for you. My mother moved out West and married my father in the 1950's. Both were children of immigrants being born in America--my mother being the daughter of Czech parents and being second generation American, and my father being 1st generation American by Volga-Duetsch parents. (Laub and Straub--holla!) My grandmother used to send my mother jewelry every Christmas for awhile. Earrings and a brooch. We used to get a 64 package of crayons--something we never would have bought--and my most prized present for years.

I looked forward to all of grandma's packages--so sparkly and colorful. When I got older, she would sent us costume jewelry, as well. My mother wore the jewelry to church each Sunday during winter and fall--always the brooches and never the earrings. It was her special jewelry and was never played with. As I aged, it was what I was given by my mother and it was some of the only pieces that were not stolen by thieves during the week my dad passed away. These pieces are exquisite and timeless and no doubt I will pass them on at some point to my niece or her children someday--but now I still wear them and enjoy them.

Anyway, I 'll have to jump into this book and let you know more about it as I read it. Thanks for the book, Frank!
