The headline read "America's most powerful religious leader takes on the world."

At first, I thought, "Stupid Time Magazine... don't they know it's not religion!"

Of course, this is just another attack on Christian faith and is made to belittle what we know is to be a true relationship with Jesus, right? Time knows better, but because they refuse to recognize faith, they bunch it into the category of religion. They should know that us "true believers" actually spite religion!

But, hold on... while it's true that faith and spirituality is unfairly categorized as religion oftentimes, who's fault is that Time and others in "the world" don't recognize the value of our relationship?

Sit down for this one... it's OUR fault! The reason the world recognizes our faith as religion is because the outward appearance is oftentimes that there is NO DIFFERENCE! How many times do we turn our churches into "country clubs" and give our faith the air of exclusivity? How many times do we appear angry that people don't follow the same walk that we do? How many times do we ostracize rather than love UNCONDITIONALLY?

Unfortunately, the answer has been a lot. If we want our relationship with Christ to be known, then we need to start sharing it... liberally.

So, does that mean walking up to a stranger and throwing "you need Jesus in your life" in their face? No, in fact, the first step is almost always to establish a relationship with yourself first! When an opportunities arise, which they do every day, we are to LOVE on people--no matter who they are and what they believe.

When you are in a relationship with others, who you are and what you really believe will always become evident.

When I came across Rick Warren's Time cover again this week, I initially got a little upset again... but then, I thought to myself, "Maybe I'm the stupid one... Rick Warren just got an opportunity to share his faith and relationship in one of the most widely read magazines in the world! Wow... what an opportunity!"

That was verified when I searched today in Google for Rick Warren in Time Magazine and this description of the article came up: "How a charismatic Californian became the closest thing to Billy Graham — and why religion in America won't be the same."

So, next time you judge or criticize those who don't understand your faith and seem to mock it or belittle it, remember this: The world doesn't call Christianity "religion" just because they haven't experienced a relationship with Jesus yet... they call it "religion" because they haven't experienced a relationship with US yet!

Love on someone today!

How to know you are saved

The way they knew if they were saved in the New Testament church was that they loved each other. The “Cost-per-Follow” (CPF) model allows Twitter-based businesses to bid on each new follower at an anticipated average cost of $2-3, according to the San Francisco-based social media giant. In other words, a website for accountants could promote strictly to potential followers who need accounting help, maximizing their user of Twitter. - John Rowa

Check out my latest article on FreeCustomWebsite.com:

Google+ Traffic Up 1300% but Business Pages are Key for Long-Term Growth

Google Plus took the “invite only” tag off it’s sign up process last week and the results are in: Over 15 million visits were made to Google+ for the week ending September 24th, according to traffic trackers Experian Hitwise. The hook was the photos of the indigenous tribe shooting arrows at the helicopter/plane that was taking the aerial footage of the tribe. The selling point was that tribes such as these are threatened because of logging.

From CNN in 2008: The National Indian Foundation (FUNAI), a government agency in Brazil, published the photos Thursday on its Web site. It tracks "uncontacted tribes" -- indigenous groups that are thought to have had no contact with outsiders -- and seeks to protect them from encroachment.

CNN article from May 2008
Gallery from May 2008

Great story, right? Get the word out there about illegal logging and how it's destroying these "lost tribes" deep within the Amazon. Sure, except, it was debunked as a "lost tribe" just a couple months after the story was released.

From the Guardian (UK) in June 2008:

Tribal guardian admits the Amazon Indians’ existence was already known, but he hoped the publicity would lift the threat of logging

They are the amazing pictures that were beamed around the globe: a handful of warriors from an ‘undiscovered tribe’ in the rainforest on the Brazilian-Peruvian border brandishing bows and arrows at the aircraft that photographed them.

Or so the story was told and sold. But it has now emerged that, far from being unknown, the tribe’s existence has been noted since 1910 and the mission to photograph them was undertaken in order to prove that ‘uncontacted’ tribes still existed in an area endangered by the menace of the logging industry.

The disclosures have been made by the man behind the pictures, Jose Carlos Meirelles, 61, one of the handful of sertanistas “experts on indigenous tribes“ working for the Brazilian Indian Protection Agency, Funai, which is dedicated to searching out remote tribes and protecting them.

In other words, this agency, FUNAI, sold a nice, shiny story to the mainstream media and they bit without doing any extensive research or without even looking at the photos (i.e. if the tribe was really "never contacted before" why do they have metal pots and machetes?).

Well, I guess even mainstream media can make a mistake every now and then, right?

Fast forward to today... when I came across this article on Yahoo's home page from the AP:

Brazil has allowed the release of rare photographs of an uncontacted Amazonian tribe to bring attention to the plight of indigenous people who rights groups say are faced with possible annihilation.

The astonishing images, showing curious adults and children peering skyward with their faces dyed reddish-orange and toting bows, arrows and spears, were taken by Brazil's National Indian Foundation (FUNAI).

Article from January 2011.

Different picture... same story.

I've seen this article posted around numerous "trusted" vendors for mainstream media today. FUNAI has sold them a bill of goods again, and either nobody bothered to fact check--AGAIN--or they decided to run it anyway because they thought we would forget and we should hear the horror stories of illegal logging.

Whether or not the story is worthy of a re-run (which illegal logging surely could use more publicity), media outlets need to have a much higher level of scrutiny and morality in not feeding us false or stretched "news" for any reason. Their job is to REPORT the news... not make it.

Just another reason you shouldn't believe everything you read coming from mainstream media.

Worry about yourself

Leaders: Don't worry about what other leaders are doing in their ministry and don't try to emulate others if it's not your calling. God has anointed you to fulfill the vision He has placed in your spirit.

"But what if I don't do this thing that this other leader is doing?" or "What if someone is doing this or that and it's taking away from what I'm doing?"

DON'T WORRY!

There is confidence in Christ--the battles have already been fought and won. It is commonly taught to young leaders to "protect the anointing" on your life... but sometimes we stretch that protection to our job security, tithe, ministry, church, and congregation.

However, Christ's church needs no "protection" from us. You and your members are right where they are supposed to be and if you're walking in His will and love, there is nothing and noone that can stop that.

Let's focus on protecting our hearts and spirits so that we may give God our entire anointing... "You can change the world."

The message itself is awesome--having the power to change the world? Most people are excited about the possibilities that come with that kind of strength. But the phrase "you can change the world" implies that you have to make some kind of concerted effort to achieve a change and that a laissez-faire approach in life means you aren't making a change at all.

However, every day we live and every breath we take leads to a positive or negative change in the world around us. We may brush it off as a minute change or insignificant, but don't overlook the impact you might have on someone's salvation.

Yes, "change the world" sounds like a rallying cry to perform missionary work in Africa--and that is fine if you were called to do that. But why travel across the world when there are plenty of family members or friends that we see every day that desperately need to see something good?

So, do you want to make an impact in someone's life? You have no choice... The real question is, will the impact you make be positive or negative?

All the time is a LONG time...

We take this saying for granted, but some days you realize it more than other days. "THAT'S PRETTY COOL!" So, I jump back on Google and search for some more stories about the encounter.

Searching for "Angel on Fly Jason Upton" yields many results, unsurprisingly. Many, many people were absolutely touched by the song and really felt a move of God even without really experiencing the angel first hand.

But, with just a few clicks, I found myself on 2 or 3 separate church denomination forums where the users were simply ripping the song, the claim of an angel, and Jason Upton himself.

Some of the users laughed, some said that it was all a hoax, but most of the argument was directed at calling Jason Upton a "heretic" because he came from a denomination that was not their own... therefore, his music (which is all Christ-centered worship) was not valid nor were any of his claims. Never mind the fact that they wouldn't even listen to the song in question, they just simply put a stamp of "FAKE" on it because Jason Upton didn't belong to their doctrinal country club.

So, am I claiming that Jason Upton is not a heretic? I doubt he is, but I guess he could be.

Am I claiming that the voice on the track is a definitely an angel? No, it could be faked for all I know.

In fact, I'm not suggesting that you believe ANYTHING about what the testimony from that song is saying... relying on a human to be your source of spiritual food is a quick way to go hungry.

What I'm suggesting is that we stop looking at the person and the doctrine involved and start looking at what's important: God is moving through this song and touching people's hearts... to those that are open to miraculous moves of the Spirit, hearing a testimony like this helps encourage and builds up their faith... so, why are we as a body tearing it down?

Why do we find it important for our theological MINDS to line up before we start working as vessels to help mend broken HEARTS all across this world?

Paul said in Philippians 1:

"15 It’s true that some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives. 16 They preach because they love me, for they know I have been appointed to defend the Good News. 17 Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me. 18 But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice."

In other words, Paul says, "WHO CARES!?!?!? People are finding Christ... HECK YA! That's ALL that matters!!!"

Don't miss out on what God is doing because your doctrine has limited His' ability.

While the pharisees argue in denominational headquarters, people's lives are being changed every day because Jesus' name is being glorified.

I want to see God move... not question it.

Christians should live by the rules... uhhh... what are they again?

Based on what church you go to, what preacher you listen to, and most importantly what your parents believe, you are likely to have a set of beliefs that help mold your personal relationship with God. You live by them, you abide by them (or try to, at least), and you are comfortable with them.

You are living the Christian life the way it should be... or, well... the way it should be according to whoever told YOU it was the way it should be.

Now, I'm not here to knock anyone's personal beliefs or sway anyone into going hippie Christian or anything. But, stepping out of your denominational incubator for just a second, think of what all the other churches in your city believe... and how WEIRD you think they are for believing it. How many times have you and your church-going friends laughed with each other because of a church that was just not "getting it". Lord knows I've done it.

Ok, now let's look a little further outside our box... let's look beyond the church completely. What do you think all the people looking from the outside-in think of all the churches? Besides thinking that we're all nutcases, frauds, liars, snot-noses, wackos, and otherwise... non-believers have NO idea what the heck we believe in beyond the fact that there are "rules" we have to abide by that make our lives a lot more boring than theirs.

Is this because what the church believes in is just confusing? Well, let's start with the basics. At the core of what the Christian church truly believes is that a loving God who was absolutely heartbroken to see His people destroying themselves sent His only son to die and take on our sins so that we may join Him in eternity... Basically, as Christians we BELIEVE in Jesus.

But beyond those core beliefs is where our confusion as "the church" really begins.

There are thousands of beliefs, denominations, religions, values, and churches that fight over the set of rules for living a Christian life. Rules that, if you do not abide by them, are sneakily sold to the church as "beliefs". Things you may find on a church bulletin:

- We believe in the holy virgin Mary.
- We believe in the holy virgin Mary that is as important as Jesus.
- We believe in confession.
- We believe in communion.
- We believe in communion everyday.
- We believe in water baptism.
- We believe in speaking in tongues.
- We believe in speaking in tongues if you've been given the gift.
- We believe speaking in tongues was for the day of Pentecost only.
- We believe in the Trinity.
- We believe in Oneness.
- We believe in clapping and raising hands during worship.
- We believe in being reverent in church.
- We believe in the church.

All these will of course be followed by a scripture reference of some sort.

These rules... errr... "beliefs" are of course used to welcome the church-hoppers... errr... long-time believers that are looking to find a home church that makes them "comfortable" and feel like they won't be challenged where they are at.

But for the new believer, these set of "beliefs" are something to start a whole new life by. These are the tenants that their Christian walk will (or should) adhere to, according to their pastor.

"Now, now... John... are you asking me to challenge my Pastor?" Of course not, people... God has placed your Pastor where he/she is at for a reason and I pray that he/she is following the path that God has placed before them to the best of their abilities.

But I'm challenging us as a church to stop the madness! We are so caught up in the X's and O's of Christianity that we are forgetting the N-A-M-E that died on the cross to carry ALL of our sins. Could you imagine how many more people we'd win to the Lord if we shared the story of Christ and the most important things he bestowed on us: new life and unconditional love!

Let's stop the in-fighting, let's stop the church wars, let's stop worrying about which denomination has it right... NONE of us do. We ALL fall short... WAY short... arguing about the stupid stuff in between is useless... let's just go out and love the heck out of people and let them find out what we REALLY believe.

Because when you show the true love that we are commanded to as believers, there is never any confusion about what that is... that's Jesus.

Mainstream Journalism is Pathetic - Bordering on Bigotry

"Rise in markets shows ‘Obamanomics’ is working"

That was the headline on MSN.com today. Seriously, THAT was the headline.

Now, I could use this entire to post to breakdown the article's claims and absolutely demolish it with common sense, but I'll simply give one point in regards to the argument in the article: Unemployment = 20+%... if you think that because the stock market is rising that we're doing great and that the "people" just don't understand how great the economy is doing, you're an idiot.

I don't want to put any labels of that kind on Mike Dorning from Business Week (whom this article was syndicated from by MSN), but if it looks like a duck...

"The public, alas, does not see the signs of life that economists do, as the downbeat views in the Bloomberg poll demonstrate. And as long as job security remains a concern, it's easy to understand why psychology may trump data."

.... Quack!

Another brilliant piece of journalistic integrity from Dorning as he quotes a so called "expert" in Dan Greenhaus, random economist from random investment firm that Dorning has obviously held some kind of business or personal relationship with:

"If Obama was a Republican, we would hear a never-ending drumbeat of news stories about markets voting in favor of the President..."

In other words, Mr. Dorning used his 2000 word allotment with BusinessWeek not to write facts or even present a valid argument, but complain that the other side is not praising his guy enough. This article should be titled, "I'm so biased against the other political party that I can't admit that people ACTUALLY hate the job my beautiful Obama is doing--it's because the Republicans are creating LIES about him and are using scare-monger tactics."

Hmmmm... that's a bit long.

But let's be fair... the uber-Democrat's quote is probably correct for the most part. Despite Republicans vast cry of "liberal media bias," the economic sector is largely conservative leaning--as it is dominated by the old, rich white guy (aka Republican) that has become the devil since 2007.

My biff is this: How could a journalist with such apparently high credentials release this kind of garbage and get away with it? How can we continue to allow our mainstream media to be unabashedly biased (in both directions) with such little respect for the facts and the truth?

Unfortunately, the answer is simple: It's us. As long as we continue to be a society ruled by cliques (the two party political system) and worry about being bigots toward the opposing class more than studying the actual merits of an argument, we will continue to see this kind of journalism and politics dominate the media.

So, the next time your party's leader comes up with a great speech about change, ask what kind of changes and how.

The next time your favorite nominee complains about the media being mean to her, ask what did she do to bring it on herself.

And the next time you read this kind of garbage on your go-to website for financial news, delete your bookmark.

Read Mike Dorning's article here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36322393/ns/business-businessweekcom/

GDP Revised to 5.6% - Only Using Government Math

Posted by John Rowa on IntegrityFXPlus.com

The Commerce Department released a lower than expected revision of 5.6% for fourth-quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) today, but that number still does not come close to meeting the true growth in GDP according to Godlman-Sach's Jan Hatzius.

Holding on to the skewed hope that the economy is growing and recession is over, the administration cannot afford to see this bubble-esque stock market plummet; which it would if the administration were to reveal a GDP number minus government intervention.

However, as noted by Hatzius, when absent the government's inflation-bound free-spending, the real GDP number is much closer to 2.2%. And despite US officials spending more than twice than the rest of the population, the reality still remains that stimulus has affected a very small portion of the population. Unfortunately, that small percentage still does not increase employment broadly enough to lower an already underreported unemployment number and with it, a sagging economy.

And that reality could mean an ugly 2011 for the US Dollar if expectations remain unattainably high for growth in the 2nd half of this year. Advice to investors and traders: Stay ahead of the game; don't rely on government math.

How Strong Was GDP Growth Really in Q4?
by Jan Hatzius

On Friday, the Commerce Department will release its first estimate of fourth-quarter GDP as measured from the “income side” of the national accounts. This will provide a useful crosscheck on the higher-profile “expenditure side” estimate that real GDP grew 5.9% (annualized) late last year, which itself might be revised slightly. Although the two measures are conceptually equivalent—that is, any differences must be due to statistical errors in one or the other—recent work at the Federal Reserve Board suggests that the income side is often more accurate than the expenditure side.

We expect the income side number to fall short of the 5.9% expenditure side estimate. A weaker number might dampen expectations of a strong labor market rebound in 2010, which are partly based on the strength of the expenditure side GDP data in late 2009. Our own view remains that employment growth will be insufficient to push down the unemployment rate on a sustainable basis in 2010, although we expect Census hiring to result in strong headline job growth in coming months (including a 275,000 gain in March).

The second revision to the Commerce Department’s quarterly GDP report rarely generates much excitement, as the changes to headline growth and inflation estimates are typically small. However, tomorrow’s report may be of more interest than usual. The reason is that it will contain the Commerce Department’s first estimate of the “income side” measure of gross domestic product in the fourth quarter, which according to recent research by the Fed staff may be a more reliable indicator of economic activity than the conventional “expenditure side” measure.

First, some background. In principle, there are three different ways to estimate gross domestic product, i.e. the value of all goods and services produced in a given period:

1. The expenditure side measure, defined as the value of all domestic expenditures on final product (e.g. personal consumption) plus the change in inventories plus the change in the trade balance. Following the recent study by Fed staff economist Jeremy Nalewaik, we call this measure GDP (E). (See Jeremy Nalewaik, “Income and Product Side Estimates of US Output Growth,” Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, available at http://www.brookings.edu/economics/bpea.aspx.) GDP (E) is the Commerce Department’s “featured” estimate of US GDP.

2. The income side, defined as the sum of all incomes received in the economy, which we call GDP (I). Conceptually, GDP (I) must equal GDP (E) because one person’s income is always another person’s expenditure. However, in practice there are significant differences between the two, as both are subject to potential measurement errors. The Commerce Department publishes an estimate of GDP (I) in nominal terms in the first revision to the Q1, Q2, and Q3 GDP report, and in the second revision to the Q4 report. We can convert this into an estimate of real GDP (I) using the implicit GDP (E) deflator.

3. The production side, defined as the sum of all value added produced in the economy, which we might call GDP (P). Again, true GDP (P) must equal true GDP (E) and GDP (I). We include this for completeness only; there is no independent GDP (P) figure in the United States, although it is actually the primary measure in a number of other countries.

The reason why we care about both GDP (E) and GDP (I) is that both are “noisy signals” of the unobservable true growth rate of GDP. If so, statistical inference suggests that we should put some weight on both measures in estimating true growth. Indeed, the study by Nalewaik referenced above argues—quite persuasively in our view—that GDP (I) has been a better measure of true activity than GDP (E) over the past few decades. This suggests that one might want to put more weight on GDP (I) than on GDP (E). But even if one disagrees with Nalewaik’s findings, it makes sense to at least put some weight on both.

The argument for putting weight on GDP (I) seems particularly strong at the moment. The reason is that it has been consistently weaker than GDP (E) over the past few years and is therefore better able to explain why employment fell so sharply during the recession and has continued to decline even after the trough in the GDP (E) data in the second quarter of 2009. In other words, if we use GDP (I) to measure output, the departure of the relationship between the unemployment rate and output from the historical “Okun’s law” relationship is less serious than if we use GDP (E). (Our own view has been that the departure is not all that large even if we use the GDP (E) data, but the use of GDP (I) data further reduces the gap.)

So what can we expect from the fourth-quarter GDP (I) number? The continued weakness in personal income—which is published more quickly than the other components of GDP (I)—suggests that GDP (I) growth is likely to come in below the 5.9% GDP (E) number. Indeed, the Federal Reserve’s flow of funds report contains a rough estimate of the “statistical discrepancy” that can be used to generate a preliminary estimate of GDP (I). This shows real GDP (I) growing just 2.2% (annualized) in the fourth quarter, far below the 5.9% number currently on record for GDP (E). The Fed emphasizes that the flow of funds figure is only a rough estimate, and we would frankly be surprised if Friday’s number turned out to be quite this weak. Nevertheless, we do expect GDP (I) to look weaker than GDP (E).

The main implication of a weaker number concerns the labor market. The strong rebound in employment growth predicted by many economists is at least partly based on the acceleration in the GDP (E) data late last year. If this acceleration overstates the economic reality, then the case for strong employment growth would weaken as well. Our own view remains that the March jobs report will show a headline gain of around 275,000 jobs and the next few months will benefit from Census hiring, but employment growth will be insufficient to push down the unemployment rate on a sustainable basis in 2010.

<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/TheRowaPerspective/~4/GoeGzQeu-Q4" height="1"
