tho not in all cases...this one began rising in my radar recently and when i read it, it was heartbreaking. have to admit it made me recoil just out of that feeling that often makes me take breaks from blogging on migrant issues. painful to even take in, horrible when people are brutalized behind hate.

I love that they stretched the banner across him. I love how reasonable he tries to sound with this voice he puts on and his fake reasons.

Regarding Gheen: He is really stepping on ALL my nerves now. I am not only a Mexicano who takes all Gheen's gross proselytizing personally, but also descended from the Jews he uses as a coin here. And as a descendant of Russian/Romanian Jews who fled Europe as stowaways because of Anti-Semitic violence-and only 3 generations ago-I find this comparison of my people to those who use divisive and exclusionary and inciteful and hateful and persecutory anti-ILLEGULZ speech that is fueling violence against my people-Latinos and other brown folk-EXTREMELY offensive and a wonderfully perverse use of suffering to further even more racism and oppression. Wow. I will have to post on that.

I think the biggest opposition to the DREAM act is the way the media controls the public's opinion of immigration. I was listening to a podcast of The Joan Kenley Show called The Media: What's True, What's Not just now that addressed the ways the flailing, frightened right-wing newsmedia are creating false realities that actually do convince a number of Americans (including some of us). I think that until we can take on this Goliath of the mainstream media and change the way that immigrants are seen in this country - it'll be a "hard sell".
