I'm seriously the worst blogger ever... I sporadically post blog entries and when I set a little deadline for myself to start posting again I don't follow my deadlines. THANKFULLY this just happens with this little hobby. Arr (insert emoticon pirate). I'll update at some point (maybe, possibly, since I can't be trusted to make promises anymore) of what I've been up to lately.

What's exciting tonight is that I'm going to see Junior Boys at the Mohawk. If you haven't heard of this Canadian duo, that's okay. You should still go see them regardless because after you hear them you'll become addicted to their after midnight sound. It's quite lovely. *what what*

Browsing through Flickr for an upcoming post, I stumbled on the above James Dean photograph and my initial thoughts turned towards Scott Schuman (aka The Sartorialist). I've always wondered how he worked behind the camera and I took the Dean photo above as something comparable. Continuing to browse through James Dean photos, I began to see a similarity. I'm not sure it's of conscious influence, but Scott emulates James. My proof is below.

Well maybe not completely. Dean seems more of the rougher sort and Schuman is probably a charmer.

If you haven't bought Scott Schuman's newest book, The Sartoralist, you can buy a copy through Amazon. If you're lucky enough to live in a large city, you might be able to attend one of the author's book signing events. Anyone want to send me a signed copy? I highly doubt he'll take a visit to Austin, TX.

I'm kind of obsessed with A Mountain for President by Principles of Geometry. It reminds me of Sébastien Tellier. Speaking again of my time abroad, at that time I never heard of Sébastien Tellier and my guy friend invited me to his concert when I was in Copenhagen. I decided not to go because I had something going on the next day (it was something insignificant like an exam or of the similar). I really, really regret that decision. I hate being a good, little student sometimes :(

The Turn: T Magazine and The Brothers Grim

I blame my love for Jane Austen books and the imagery of the characters within her books for my admiration for topcoats, top hats, and neatly folded scarves. The Brothers Grim in T Magazine for NYTimes utilizes inspirational pieces from the common fashion of the Victorian era to provide a modern interpretation of such sartorial wear. Jane Austen wrote in the Georgian era, which is pre-Victorian.

These pictures reminded me of the music video Crucify my Heart by Private. I think the lead singer should have opted for a top hat. Don't get my wrong, I love seeing a Dane without blond hair, but the hair just kept getting in the way :( When I was wrecking my reputation in Copenhagen, my guy friends would make me flirt my way into requesting My Secret Lover at the gay clubs. Funny thing was that the DJ was a fine example of a lesbian Cougar. Thankfully, I had my catnip cologne on so it didn't take much. True story. Find more Private at their happy, Danish blog.

Apolis Activism has some notable pieces for the upcoming fall season. The wax canvas bomber jacket struck me because I usually have a No Bomber Jacket policy. I really can't stand the snug cuff and waist portion of the jacket; I'll fidget between my shirt cuff, watch, and jacket cuff in attempts to style the three appropriately. I have problems. I like this bomber jacket enough to overlook my pending mannerism. The blue, wax cotton makes the jacket. On top of being a great shade of blue for the season, the wax will add a slight shimmer providing a great texture to contrast a pair of dark grey jeans or any other pant of your choice.

So this is Busy Bee. I saw this little outfit at the Galleria in Houston and I had to have it for my cat, Sophia. When I place it on her she doesn't move and just looks down. I think she likes it or believes that I'm robbing her dignity when I place that little bee hoody on her. I'll probably have to put it on her some more before I can decided which one is true.

Update for The Turn: Finding a Pseudo-Unis Blue Shirt

A while ago there was this gorgeous blue Unis shirt that was haunting me (okay okay, it was from like three seasons ago, but the shirt is damn nice). I was tormented that I didn't buy this one piece and what made it worse was that I tried to substitute it for some knock-off I found on Ebay (the auctioned shirt was no way close to the Unis shirt). In all my anguish the Fashion Gods saw that I was hurting. And well Unis found some of the old material from the blue shirt and lucky me I was able finally get a shirt of my own. So yes, I have my happy ending thanks to Unis :)

Me with the H1N1n virus. The severity of my sickness is demonstrated in my inability to keep myself up right.

It's been a while. I almost forgot how to blog. Everyone, my lovely audience, please forgive my absence. I came down with H1N1n. A daughter strand to H1N1, the "n" in H1N1n stands for nerd. It's a serious virus that should not be confused with H1N1d where the "d" is an abbreviation for douche (Kayne West recently brought this horrible virus to the public's attention during the VMAs). H1N1n is similar to the manbearpig influenza virus, but some how a bit of nerd DNA replicated itself into the H1N1 giving rise to the virus that infected me. It started at the beginning of this past summer when I downloaded World of Warcraft. In rapid succession, I began to not venture outdoors, consume easy microwavable foods (see Hotpockets), and drop into a horrible state of playing WoW for 16 hrs straight. Basically, H1N1n was to blame for my lack of blogging these past couple of months... I was addicted to WoW.

I named my character after my anti-anxiety medicine.

I made sure he matched. I couldn't allow him to kill Horde players if he was not looking his best.

Thankfully, I'm now better. I still have a little H1N1n in me, but those symptoms only come up once a week now. And well now, I'd like to say "hello" and I'm really looking forward to once again posting about my sartorial interests.

My little MacBook Pro exploded. Well, not really. The fan is just broken, the display is messed up, the video card decided to die, and according to the Apple Genius there are components that are popping out from their designated slots. Damn. It would cost about 1200K to fix and that basically means I'm getting a new computer. Since July 4th is around the corner, I think I'm going to compile a video of what happens when you strap a MacBook to a large rocket, then maybe what happens when you wrap Black Cats around it. So it will explode, but not right now. I have lots of posts I want to put up, but it won't happen anytime soon :( I hope everyone is taking advantages of the summer sales.

Crazy story guys. I went to Mexico for a little holiday and I was kidnapped by the Cartel. I tried to explain to them I was Mexican and not American, but my white legs didn't convince them. Well, that story didn't happen, the news would have blown it up and blah blah. Sorry I haven't been posting any entries. Life has been ridiculous. I'll start posting soon.

I'm going to D.C. in about a week for a little academic conference, so if anyone knows of great shopping places, please send out a word. I've found great places for dining out and the late evening, but I'm afraid shopping is geared towards the plain political attire. *Sigh* Hopefully, I'm proven wrong.

I often find myself buying men's shoes and pairing them with a women's cut jean or pant. I don't know why, but I love the clash of masculinity and femininity in a silhouette. It's like a visible contradiction. I'll just postulate that it plays into my facetious attitude. These vintage Frye boots are sized 9 1/2 D and will cost you $70.

Damn. They're too big for me.

Jamis Coda

About a month ago, my bicycle was stolen. Only slightly sadden by the occurrence, I was overwhelmingly glad that the event happened. I had my Raleigh mountain bike for too long, 10 years to be exact. It was heavy, unfit for Austin roads, too small, and a little lame. For the past week I've become more serious in my bicycle shopping and have been searching to find something that will suit my commuting needs. I have settled on purchasing the Jamis Coda (pictured above). I'll probably upgrade the seat with a Brooks saddle to add a little more something to it. In my bike hunting, I stumbled across some really well designed bikes. The Charger Plug Ranger and the Traitor Ruben are favorites. I'm thinking of adding a red chain like that on the Charger Plug Racer; it's a nice detail.
