BEFORE AND AFTER: New Year's Inspiration

If you've ever stepped foot in our store, you know we are always creating new and interesting vignettes with our current stock of consignments. What was once a living room design one week will become a bedroom the next. But one spot in the store, the front entrance in particular, usually remains a living room.

Call it New Year's inspiration, but when we saw our front room empty today....we decided to switch it up...

We love this room for its outside-of-the-box thinking, and not just because we completely transformed one room into another. Get creative with your design choices this year - replace a chair with an ottoman or place one rug on top of another to give it an extra element of excitement. The sky's the limit!

The Ron Clark Academy's Xtreme Bedroom Makeover

Very rarely do have a client who is 10 years old, but recently we were given the amazing opportunity to design a bedroom for one very deserving Ron Clark Academy student. As part of an annual contest, 15 design groups, ranging from Home Depot to Verizon, were challenged to create a bedroom design based upon winning student essays. The Savvy Snoot Design Group was paired with a student whose dream it was to have an underwater, Greek themed bedroom, where she'd be free to create, imagine and study.

Savvy Snoot Design Group went to work hanging color fish from the ceiling, painting a mural of Poseidon and even adding a fish bowl with her very own pet fish. Because of their design, Savvy Snoot Design Group won' the challenge's Best Room Design, but most importantly made one girl's dream come true.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Now that we've finished all of our Thanksgiving leftovers, it's time to deck the walls and trim the tree! We had a great time transforming our Midtown store into a Winter Wonderland (it complements these new cold temperatures perfectly!), complete with a silver tree and aqua accents. To get your house ready, we've collected great vintage ornaments so your tree can have the same "collected look" as your home. Here are just a few of our favorites!

Even though the design is new, the items in the room are not! Over 90% of the items used in our design for an Atlanta Magazine shoot at Buckhead's Terminus Condo were consignment.

HOLIDAY ROUNDUP: Smell of a Good Candle

Sometimes its hard to buy home accessories for someone else, so if our candle round up has left you without the perfect gift idea, don't fret. You don't always have to think outside-of-the-box to make an impact. Instead of picking unique candle sticks or cool candle holder, go with a candle that doesn't necessarily need to be seen to be smelled.

As designers, we know that often times great smelling candles don't match with the decor of a room, so we've designed our Savvy Snoot Air Kiss Candle line to match anything! The natural ivory colored soy wax is stored in a simple, clear glass container to allow it to easily blend into any decor...because with these candles it's all about the smell. Our favorite scent - a mix of orange blossoms, vanilla and amaretto - is usually buring at our Midtown store and we've adopted it as our Savvy Snoot signature scent. We're currently giving one away to the person who helps us name it. You can enter your idea by liking us on Facebook and entering your name in the comment section!

We've also just started carring 13 Candles, a brand new line of beeswax candles. Packaged in a mason jar, the neutral colored candle comes in 6 signature scents that can help set the mood of any room, event or mood! We're loving the holiday scents - there's even one that smells like Thanksgiving!

HOLIDAY ROUND UP: Centerpiece Candle Holders

On Thanksgiving it's all about table decor (well, and turkey!), so look for a unique candle holder to help create a cool table centerpiece. Forget the expected candlesticks (unless it's one our unexpected candlestick finds!) and run-of-the-mill votives and look for unusual candle holders that add visual appeal to your table while still giving off a festive glow. Our favorite find at our Midtown location is a cool rod iron piece fitted with vintage door knobs that act as candle holders. We also have found collections of cool jars, which can be hung from a tree at an outdoor feast or placed in a group on a table with a variety of different colored candles. Or why not fill a couple with candles and a few with cranberries! The options are endless with these cool candles!

If you've ever been into one of our stores, you're already familiar with the amazing smells from our Savvy Snoot Air Kiss candle line. We light one as soon as we walk into the store and leave it burning throughout the day to the delight of everyone who walks in the door. Our favorite boasts the sweet smell of orange blossom, vanilla and amaretto, but we have yet to give our "signature scent" a name! Needless to say, we need your help!

Build Your Own Terrarium

Succulent terrariums are all the rage these days and can add a lot of character to a room. You can find them at gardening centers and home decor stores, but buying them pre-made limits you to containers that are often times lackluster.

We recently placed an oversize terrarium created by Matthew Klyn at GARDEN in one of our room designs and now can't stop spotting cool containers to create more. We have so many unique glass jars at our Midtown store that would be perfect for building a one-of-a-kind terrarium. Come in and find your own container to build your own. Or you can take it over to Matthew and have him design it for you. They make an awesome gift...if you can stand parting with them!

An Upholstery Facelift

One thing I love most about consignment is giving a piece of furniture a second life. This sofa at our Midtown West location is a great example of just that. By upholstering this traditional sofa with a modern mohair and creating a cool, 3-color design, its outdated look was given an instant upgrade and will now make an amazing focal point to any "collected look" design.

Instead of throwing away a furniture piece when it no longer fits in with your decor, consider reupholstering it or painting it a brand new color. You will be amazed how one little change can make a huge difference.

3 Unique Jars, 5 Amazing Ideas

Last week we received 3 great glass jars set atop concrete bases. We've placed them front and center at our Midtown West store and continue to come up with different ideas for these great pieces.

Fish Bowl. Add some natural rocks to the bottom, fill with water and it's a perfect habitat for a bright orange goldfish.
Candle. Fill the jar with sand and place your favorite candle in the center for a unique center piece.
Fruit Bowl. Place in your kitchen and fill with brightly colored oranges, limes or lemons. Great pop of color!
Holiday Centerpiece. Fill with cranberries, chestnuts, or Conversation Hearts. Whatever the holiday, filling this jar with something festive will make a great centerpiece.
Terrarium. Pick out your favorite succulents and create a terrarium. Makes a perfect addition to any room!
