Rene Seidel and Erin Westphal Featured in California Healthline Special Audio Report on the Needs of California's Elder Care Workforce

The SCAN Foundation's Rene Seidel, vice president of programs and operations, and Erin Westphal, program officer, were featured in a Dec. 15 California Healthline special report entitled, "State Braces for Shortage of Care Providers as Elderly Population Continues to Grow." The five minute audio report discusses the shortage of health care providers who specialize in caring for older adults and addresses possible solutions.

Health Affairs Blogger Chris Fleming Promotes Dec. 16 Conference on Innovations in Health Care Delivery

Health Affairs, the nation’s leading journal on health policy, is convening a day-long conference on “Innovations in Health Care Delivery.” The free conference is scheduled for Thursday, December 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Ronald Reagan Center for International Trade, on 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, in Washington, D.C.Following the innovation conference, Health Affairs will publish a number of the case studies in an upcoming issue of the journal. Partner organizations supporting the project include: the American Hospital Association, Blue Shield of California Foundation, California HealthCare Foundation, The Commonwealth Fund, John A. Hartford Foundation, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and The SCAN Foundation.

A Nov. 2 article in The Hill entitled, "Keeper of Kennedy's Flame," describes the monumental efforts of Constance "Connie" Garner to move the CLASS Act through Congress over the years. She's recently "taken the helm of a new nonprofit tasked with making the voluntary program work by getting businesses and employees on board." The nonprofit group is appropriately titled, "Advance CLASS;" her position is funded by a startup grant from The SCAN Foundation.
